Getting contacts from my iphone to my mac

I have been in the Apple Store today and they have advised that I need to delete all my phone history and set up as a new phone as having battery issues.  I am trying to transfer my numbers and contacts to my mac but I can't do it, it wont allow me at all. It just keeps backing up my phone everytime I go into itunes
Can someone please help me?

Make sure you have installed the latest version of iTunes on the Mac, to begin with.
In iTunes preferences on the Mac, plug the phone in, select it in the Devices list (may need to do a Show Sidebar to see that) and in its Info tab on top of the window, make sure to select all you want it to sync with: contacts, calendars, email, bookmarks. If you do not have the iPhone's info on the Mac, make sure all items on the Advanced section are unselected so the phone's contents will overwrite whatever is on the Mac.
The same applies to the Music, Movies, Podcasts, Books and Photos tabs, so all the stuff on the phone has been safely saved on the Mac. A backup of the non-default apps will be saved automatically.
In the Summary tab, it is recommendable to choose to store the Backup locally and not iCloud. Will be much faster and complete, and not dependent on Internet connection speeds. When done, you will have an exact copy of your phone's data on the Mac. You will be handed a blank new/refurbished phone of the same characteristics if they "replace" the battery, so when you plug it in you will have to Restore from the backup the Mac contains.
BEWARE BEWARE. Make sure there is enough room to contain all the stuff on the phone BEFORE you start the backup. That can take up several Gigabytes of room: worst case, 64GB phone == 64GB of room.

I ran into this same issue this morning and from what I read within the Apple Communities, the only way to now sync is to use iCloud.

  • How do I get contacts from iCloud back on my mac?

How I got to this place is too long a story, but I ended up with a system iCloud dialogue box on my macbook pro, and the gist of the questions were Do you want to make it so if I quit iCloud my contacts (Notes, Reminders, etc) will no longer remain on your mac? I didn't want to do this, but it seemed it wasn't letting me proceed without hitting the highlighted agree button, so I did.
I definitely want my contacts back on my Mac. How can I go about getting them from iCloud back onto my mac? I don't intend to quit iCloud, but I have years worth of contacts that I don't want to ever lose.
Notes would be the next most important one to get back onto my mac. Reminders after that. Thanks much in advance for your help.
    Michael

    Hi Michael Gorsline1,
I understand that you turned off iCloud on your Mac and subsequently lost all of your contacts, notes, and reminders. If your information, remains on iCloud.com, you can merge that information back onto your Mac by signing back into iCloud and selecting the services you would like to sync.

  • HT201269 How can i sync my contacts from the iPhone to my mac pro?

    Hi
I am trying to sync my contacts on my IPhone to the mac pro but it seems not work.
Any one faced this issue and solved, Please advice.
    Regards

If you want your contacts to remain in sync across iOS devices, then you can use any Exchange-type of account.  For example, once you have a "clean" set of contacts with no duplicates, you could upload that into iCloud so that any change you make from your iPad would be reflected on your iPhone.  You don't have to use iCloud for e-mail since your devices can pull a contact from iCloud for use with GMail or Yahoo.
But you can also set GMail up as an Exchange account if you don't want to use iCloud.  The GMail account type in iOS is not Exchange, but you can set it up that way:

The benefit of doing this is (a) your Google contacts remain in sync across all your devices, and (b) your GMail will then support Push notification.  Just one caveat, when you do this then the default behavior when you delete an e-mail is such that it is archived to your "All Mail" folder in GMail.  The only way to change this behavior is to use your device's Safari to navigate to m.google.com/sync and change the setting on Google's server for each of your devices.  This is a one-time thing, but important if you want trashed e-mails to really go to Trash.
As far as Contact Management Software options to clean things up, Google search is the only recommendation I have

I broke the screen on my iphone and I had to get a new phone. I need to get the contacts from my old phone to my new one. Is there a way of doing this without typing all of the numbers in?

    Several ways:
You can plug your old phone into your computer, back up it's data, and restore your new phone from that backup, and it will basically behave and have everything your phone has. The only bug is that you have to manually put your videos apps and music on the phone. Don't worry, when you redownload your apps, they will still have all their data from the backup.
You simply email them over wifi by opening each individual contact and pressing "share". You just eamail them to yourself and open the email and download them on your new phone.
If you are running iOS 5 on both iPhones, you can try iMessaging them to your new phone using the same share button and pressing "message".
One of the simplest ways for iOS 5 users. Use the iCloud. Just turn iCloud on for contacts on both iPhones and make sure it is off on all other iOS devices. You just open your Contacts app and they should all appear there. If you would like to then turn off iCloud on your iPhones you may, just be sure to press the keep contacts button when turning it off so you don't lose them.

  • Getting photos from my iphone to my mac?

    Hey,
So, on my iPhone I have a few differernt albums and and my photo library has 1,055 photos.
However, when I connect up to iPhoto, I can only see Camera Roll with only 155 photos.
Anyone have any idea how to make it so I can import all of my photos to my mac?
    Thanks!

Where on your iPhone are the photos stored? I ask this b/c you say you have "albums" on your iPhone.... created with what app?
Does iPhoto ask you to import your photos from your iPhone? (Your iPhone is cnnected to your Mac, right?)
When was the last time you repaired permisssions with Disk Utility?
If you click on your iPhone while in iPhoto, what does it say in the window?
While in iTunes, ckick on your iPhone, click the photos tab, and check the "Sync photos from iPhoto" and "all photos and ablbums" boxes.
Lastly, buy the iPhone iPhoto app, and sync again.

    Jane

When I started with my iPhone, I was adding contacts to the "On my iPhone" account because that was the default, and they didn't sync through the cloud. I changed the default account to iCloud and the new ones worked, but I don't think the old "on my iPhone" ones worked. Might have to export them and then import them. It's all fuzzy now and this was in IOS5.
