Getting contacts on an older device ios4

I have an ipad 3 which syncs over icloud in regard to my contact list. I was able to use the icloud manager to then keep it synced to my outlook on Windows. But I also have an older device, an ipod touch that won't go beyound version 4.2.1 of ios, and i would really like if this kept up to date with my contacts? Is there a way to do this? When I go into itunes, it says my ipad syncs with the cloud, so it can't be set up to sync with itunes directly.

When you download something from the iCloud, it is a brand new licensed copy. Your iCloud account just contains a notation that you have this app. It isn't storing an actual copy of the app from your Mac.

if you copy the iTunes folder from the old to the new Mac, your Touch will just continue to sync with iTunes as if nothing happened.
make sure you copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder).

I'm getting a "No Data From Device" error for older video import

I'm trying to create digital video archives of some older (Hi-8) tapes before they turn to dust. I've got a Sony deck with iLink and have been using iMovie, which is time consuming but error free. I want to use the "Create Camera Archives" feature in FCP X, but am not able to import any video. FCP recognizes the deck, lets me control it and displays video in the capture window. But it does not capture anything - camera archives are empty and when I try to import the video I get a "No Data from Device" message over the import window, as the video is playing in the background. I thought it might be an issue of import settings... but I can't find any to change.

Make sure all your settings are correct for capture and playback. Also make sure that the settings on the deck are the same as well. I know I had an issue when my Sony FX1 HDV camera was set to DV, FCP gave a similar error message.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
If you still have no luck try reinstalling iTunes 12.0, links in the user tip.

Use your backup copy of your old computer to put everything on your new computer, then sync the iphone to that comptuer.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you cannot use your Wi-Fi after the latest update to your iPhone 4s. I know you have already done some great troubleshooting by restoring with iTunes but the Wi-Fi becomes unavailable very quickly after you set it up. Go ahead and set up the iPhone so you can get into the Setting and then follow the steps provided in the attached article.

Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you complete all of these steps and still are not able to access the Wi-Fi, it may be necessary to follow the link at the bottom of the page and contact Apple Support.

ICloud feature that diverts messages and synchronises contacts on another IOS device?

Hi there,
I've managed to work out how contacts are synchronised to and back from the cloud on individual IOS devices but my question now is which iCloud feature diverts messages and synchronises contacts from one IOS device to another i.e. an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4S which both have sim cards and have 2 different numbers but are on the same tariff.
Lastly doesn't iTunes backup up messages and ringtones?
Your help would be much appreciated.

I backup to computer (Mac) this makes a full backup of the device and restores all data. Messages and Ringtones included. If you are using the SAME iCloud account on both devices and signed into iMessage with the same iCloud account or same Apple ID, messages will go to both devices. Had this issue as well. Individual iCloud accounts or Apple ID's must be used on individual devices to only get iMessages sent to that person. Family Sharing lets you share Calendars Pictures and other features shown here:

So to isolate iMessages to a particular device an individual account MUST be used or messages will go to each device while logged in with the same iCloud account or Apple ID..

If you really need to upgrade you can save a bit of money and get an older version than the ipad Air.
First, you can sell your ipad 1 to places like gazelle.com, cashforyourmac.com, sellyour mac.com, or many others out there. The sites I listed give you cash. At this point gazelle.com is giving $70.00 for any ipad 1 in 'good' condition. And cashforyourmac will give you $25.00 over what gazelle.com or sellyourmac.com offers you. Shipping is free.
Then, with that money, go the the Apple online certified refurbished store. As an example, a new 64gb Air costs $699.00. A refurbed 4th gen 64gb costs $529.00 and a 3rd gen 64gb costs $499.00. Personally, I'd skip the 3rd gen. So if you buy a 4th gen 64gb at $529.00 minus what you can get from a sale to above, you can get an ipad 4 64gb for just over $430.00, a savings of savings of about $270.00. (A new 32gb Air is $599.00, a 4th gen 32gb is $449.00, and a 3rd gen 32gb is not on the site right now.) Google it and check if you can get better offers anywhere else. This is a typical response from the manufacturer. Did you try the fix that Lawrence mentioned. When Apple or any other phone manufacturer update phone software, they have the latest Bluetooth installed. It is usually the problem with the radio manufacturer that they devices are using the older Bluetooth protocols. You can try this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3581 and see if anything there helps, but generally it requires the radio manufacturer to update their firmware.

Just what do you mean? Only devices with iOS 7 and later have the Activation Lock that uses our Apple ID, Only the 5G can go to iOS 7 and higher.

Then restore via iTunes. The iOS device will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

On the Macbook Pro in Preferences> iCloud> Contacts is not checked. When I check it I get "Do you want to merge contacts with iCloud?"

If you want to sync your Mac contacts with your other devices using iCloud, you need to go ahead and check Contacts in System Preferences.
