Error getting license Server communication problem: E_ADEPT_CLIENT
I am new to ADE. I just purchased an e-book from Books-a-Million last evening and when I try to download the book to ADE I get
Error getting license Server communication problem: E_ADEPT_CLIENT
I am trying to download to ADE so I can move it to my nook. This is proving to be very frustrating. I have ADE authorized and the Nook authorized.
Any advice would be welcome.
Thank you.Welcome to the forum....
Error messages from ADE are not always clear and useful, and this one is one
of the ones that can have a couple of meanings. There's a posting HERE
<http://technology.myblogzone.info/2011/01/how-to-solve-the-error-getting-license-message-i n-adobe-digital-editions/>
that
explains in part what's happened, and I hope it's useful to you. Good luck!
And I hope this helps.

I bought & downloaded a book from Google Play and when I open the .acsm file in ADE, I get the message 'Error getting license. License server communication problem: E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKOWN:'
How do I solve this? I downloaded another book from Google play the same day and that downloaded fine after opening the .acsm file.
I'm using Windows 7.
I contacted Google regarding this, but they directed me here. Any help appreciated.
Thanks
MarkWhat I did was deauthorized and reauthorized my ADE, both the device and computer. It worked. I was able to download my books onto my e-reader. Here is a link to what I did Deauthorizing and reauthorizing Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 on your computer and your reader | Washington County Coopera…
I would think that it shouldn't matter if the ADE is 2.0 or 3.0. -

I am using the most recent version of Adobe reader, have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times to no avail.
How To Change the Authorized Adobe ID
http://www.adobe.com/go/digital-editions-createID
What do you do if your copy of Adobe Digital Editions is authorized with the wrong Adobe ID? This can happen if you’ve started using a different Adobe ID or you somehow messed up the authorization in the past.
If you’re trying to open an ebook when Adobe Digital Editions is authorized with the wrong Adobe ID, you’ll get an error message like: “License fulfilled by a different user” or something similar referencing licensing or authorization.
Important note: If you have some ebooks that do require your current authorization, those will become unreadable if you authorize with a different Adobe ID.
deauthorize
The first thing to do is deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions. This will remove your current authorization.
1. Open Adobe Digital Editions
2. On your keyboard, simultaneously press the Ctrl, Shift, and D buttons (if on Windows) or the Cmd, Shift, and D buttons (if on a Mac)
3. Click the “Deauthorize” button
After this you should close Adobe Digital Editions, and then open it again.
re-authorize
If you’ve followed the steps above, your copy of Adobe Digital Editions is no longer authorized.
Open Adobe Digital Editions
Adobe Digital Editions will behave as if you’ve just installed it, and will prompt you to enter your login information for your Adobe ID. Use the Adobe ID account information that you want to use to authorize Adobe Digital Editions. -

I began this day with ADE 17.2 and tried every proffered solution to no avail. The last suggestion was to update to ADE 3.0.
The exact error message is:
Unable to download. error getting license. license server communication problem: e_adept_document_type_unknown
I have tried completely disabling the firewall (domain, public, private) and the problem persists. I have tried running ADE as system admin with same results.
I've read all the posts on this forum and it appears no one has found a solution.
Please note: I do not have a proxy, currently all firewalls disabled, no anti-virus software used.
Windows 7 SP 1 32 bit home premium
Firefox 27.0.1
Shockwave flash 12.0.0.70
Network connection is wifi home network
Content to be downloaded is PDF from Google Play Books
Is there anyone who can offer a solution ....
UPDATE:
My husband figured out how to disable the firewall on the router and we tested again (and simultaneiously with software firewall disabled). Still didn't work.
I also created a Firewall Rule specifically for this application:

UPDATE:
I was reading other posts on similar topics and one of the suggestions was to try OverDrive. Since I already have it, I tried it and received the following error message:
The specified OverDrive media file "[local path]\AppData\Local\Temp\Seams-Unlikely-epub-2.acsm" is not valid. (The OverDrive media file root element is not valid.)
According to OverDrive's help forum that means the ACSM file can ONLY be downloaded with ADE!
http://help.overdrive.com/article/0644/What-to-do-if-you-get-an-ACSM-The-OverDrive-media-f ile-root-element-is-not-valid-error-when-using-OverDrive-Media-Console-for-Windows-or-Mac
UPDATE
Have learned we have a WNDR4500 router with built-in firewall which can not be disabled. On the NetGear forums, there was the uninformative suggestion to "use DMZ in the router settings" to disable the firewall. In looking at the settings for our firewall, the nearest screen I could find to resemble that suggestion contained the following:
[ ] Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection
[ ] Default DMZ Server [192.168.1.0]
[ ] Respond to Ping on Internet Port
[x] Disable IGMP Proxying
MTU Size(in bytes) 1500 bytes
NAT Filtering [x] secured [ ] open
[ ] Disable SIP ALG
I'm afraid this is beyond the scope of my understanding and have no idea what I should be doing here so have made no changes.Adobe Digital Editions Communications Error When Downloading PDF from Overdrive (and maybe elsewhere too):
If you get an “error getting license server communication problem” message in Adobe Digital Editions:
1. Try downloading any of the PDF files from Adobe here: http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions/eBook.html
2. Now re-download the book from Overdrive
3. Enjoy!!
I figured this out after many, many hours of frustration . . hope it helps!! -
When I try to download books I purchased from Kobo I get the following error message: Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E IO CANNOT OPEN.
I've spent hundred of dollars on books that I can't get access to! How can I fix this?I've been having the same issue! I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling ADE but that hasn't helped; I've even created a new Adobe ID and that was also a fruitless venture. I haven't yet tried to unauothorize my device, but I am hesitant to do so as it seems that others have tried and have not succeeded. I am desperately caught in the middle of a series and I would love to have access to the new books that I've been trying to download from my library!

I don't really know what to do. I download a book from my library and it then goes to my download folder in finder (I have a macbook pro). When I double click on the downloaded book to open, digital editions comes up and then I get the following message
Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:
E_ACT_NOT_READY
The only option I have at that point is to close the window. My computer is registered/authorized and I have tried everything I can think of but can't get the books to download into adobe digital editions.
Help pleaseI am having this exact issue. I just downloaded a book and went to open it and got this exact problem.
I purchased he book through indigo/kobo edition and paid for it and immediately went to open it and am getting the same error
Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem only mine says Bad Device key after.
Not sure why someone has not answered this question yet...i am using windows 7 and this is how i always do it. Never had this problem before when purchasing a book.
i hope someone answers this soon. -
Hi, I bought an e-book in PDF format that uses Adobe DRM. I've created an account on adobe.com and tried downloading the book in Adobe Digital Editions on the Mac (as well as the bookstore's e-reader--logged into my Adobe account--on an Android device).
It tries to download the book but get's the following error:
Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:
E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN:
Has anyone come across this? Any guidance would be most appreciated!
Thanks!

recd following error when attempt to open ebook using ADE 4.0 : "Unable to Download. Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_LIC_LICENSE_SIGN_ERROR" iMac 10.8.5 Chrome Version 37.0.2062.124
chat with customer service at book company i purchased file:
"Me: I installed the proper adobe software, adobe digital editions 3.0 (now have updated to 4.0) on my mac running os 10.85 however I am getting the following error code when i try to open the file:
"Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:
E_LIC_LICENSE_SIGN_ERROR"
Charles P.: Okay, what you need to do unfortunately, is contact Adobe at http://www.adobe.com and they will need to get your license issue resolved.
Charles P.: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Me: title of error is Unable to Download
Me: i dont see how that would be an adobe problem?
Charles P.: I understand, but it appears that the reason for the download issue is because of the license error the license is related to the Adobe Digital editions software. I understand how this could be confusing but it's due to the authorization of the ADE software. Adobe would need to correct your account issue with the license
Me: ok but i thought this was a free license from adobe??!! this is just a digital editions reader, right??
Charles P.: That is correct it is a free license but your account has to be associated with one license and yes the Digital edition is a ebook reader that our ebooks use for you to viewWell, just for the halibut I tried opening the book again today and , GLORY BE!, it worked.
Guess it may have taken overnight for Adobe to OK my license to their free ADE software. Also works now using Bluefire app as the reader on my android phone, although it was a pain
to get the book file in the right file folder for bluefire to see it.
I hope that time also heels the issue with all other Error Getting License users.
