Getting files off of idisk

Help!!Hard drive crashed and now I have a new one and I can't figure out how to get stuff off of .mac onto iweb on my new hard drive, which of course is blank. I assume that is possible. How do I transfer all my pages onto my hard drive?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unfortunately you can't get the published web site back into iWeb. It's a one way street. Unless you have a backup copy of the domain.sites2 file that you used to create the site you'll have to start over and rebuild from scratch. This site will give some tips on doing so: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html

  • I have a G4 Quicksilver that no longer works, but the hd may still be good. How can I get files off the G4 hd and onto my new iMac?

I have a G4 Quicksilver 2001 that no longer works, but the hd may still be good. How can I get files off the G4 hd and onto my new late 2013 iMac?

Also, how do I boot the G4 into FireWire Target Disk mode?
First, the G4 must be able to start to use FWTDM. If it can start, hold the t key at boot until you get a "screensaver pattern" that looks like this:
If the G4 is attached via a FireWire cable to a newer Mac with a FireWire port, the G4's hard drive will appear on the other Mac's desktop just as if it were any external drive. A USB cable won't work for FWTDM.
Just wondering if the drive in my G4, which I believe may be an ATA drive will also work in an enclosure for a SATA drive?
No. ATA (actually "PATA" or "IDE") and SATA are different interfaces. PATA external enclosures are now very hard to find. You best and least expensive option is the adaptor that BDAqua linked. One of its connectors is for PATA drives.

  • Getting Files off of ATV

    Hi All,
Is there a way to get files off of ATV that have been synced from iPhoto? Here's my problem. I have a LaCie drive that I use to save all of my media files on and that drive syncs my photo's to my ATV. I can no longer mount my LaCie drive; which is another issue, but I want to be able to take my photos from my ATV and back them up on another drive so I don't loss them if my LaCie drive is fried. I can view the photos on my ATV, so the files themselves are there, but I can't figure out how to access the ATV as a volume drive and copy the files somewhere else.
    Can someone help me out?
    Thanks in advance.
    John

    You can't officially do it.
AppleTV is not additional storage or a backup solution.
    It only holds non-retrievable copies.
Your only solutions are to hack/mod AppleTV to open up some functionality - which is beyond most user, or to dismatle and remove the internal drive and then use an adpter to connect it to your computer and manually hunt for the files.
You can certainly get at the files if you're prepared to take AppleTV apart.

  • Can I get files off of my old hard drive?

So, I've been going through a whole lot of trouble lately with my late 2011 Macbook Pro. A little over a week ago it wouldn't start up, and after attempting the recovery process I learned that I had a corrupted hard drive. The problem was I had a partially written 50000 word novel on there which I hadn't backed up. I'm aware that that was incredibly stupid of me, and I usually always back my work up, but I guess because I'd just purchased this macbook in July I didn't expect to have a problem so soon. Anyway, I took it to the apple store and by hooking it up to genius bar OS instead of my own they were able to get into my hard drive and they let me extract the files I needed, and then proceeded to replace my hard drive which took about four days. I just went back to look at the novel after getting the computer back today, and I realized it somehow only got half of it; maybe it was in two documents or something that I missed, I'm not sure what happened, but it's missing a hundred pages.
So, long story short, I need to get back on my hard drive again. They gave the old one to me, but the last thing I want to do is go through the whole entire process of switching drives again, because I need this computer to work on and it would undoubtedly take forever to do. What I'm asking is, does anyone know if there's another way to retrieve these files? Would the apple store be willing to let me load it onto a different computer so I can still keep my own to work on? I know it's probably a long shot, but I'm about ready to give up and this is my only hope.
I'll be returning there tomorrow afternoon, because apparently on top of all of this they did something to my battery while replacing the hard drive, and now it's coming up as not available and it relies entirely on the power adapter to function. So they've got to fix that too. Just my luck, isn't it?
    Thanks.

There are several ways to get data off an old drive, some of which have already been mentioned:
USB drive adapter cable (best choice if you only need to do this rarely, too fragile for frequent use)
External enclosure (choose the 0GB empty case)
Drive dock (I keep one of these around to read old drives that are in the closet, so I no longer need the other accessories. Super handy accessory, much more reliable than the USB adapter cable.)
There are also write-protected forensic drive docks intended to examine and rescue data from drives without altering the contents, but that's probably more than what you need. They're mostly for data recovery shops.

  • How do I get files off of a macbook pro that doesn't have a working trackpad or keyboard? Is it possible to connect it to a new macbook pro?

I spilled water on my old macbook pro and now the keyboard and trackpad no longer work.  I have a new one but want to get some files off of the old one.  What would be the easiest way of doing this.  The old one also has a password so I'm not sure I could get into it anyway.

You could remove the hard drive and put it into an external enclosure. You can connect it to another Mac via Target Disk Mode and transfer the files you want that way. If you put the drive into an external enclosure you can use Migration Assistant to transfer your Home folder to the new computer.

  • Getting Files off CD-RW that is not Closed

    Hi,
I have an issue that is new to me. My dad has a CD of a music concert his chorus performed that was captured from the mixing board to a CD writer of some sort. The result was a CD that has a single session that is marked as Open when I look at the disk in Toast.
He had 2 such CDs but I closed the session and finalized one disk by burning an additional file on it. That closed the disk and I could see the 2 sessions (as different volumes) and get the audio files off the disk. However, the second CD seems to have run out of room for me to try that trick again. I tried to copy an empty file created by the "touch" command (probably about 4k in size since nothing is every empty in size) it tells me there is ~600k to write and only about 300k available. Toast tells me there is 702MB of data on the disk already (and CDs only say they hold 700MB so I'm assuming it's at the limit).
So the big question is whether I can use Terminal or some other means to just grab the files from the disk even though the session is open and the disk is not closed. Has anyone run into this before or a way around it? Since the Finder will not mount the open session I can't see it in the /Volumes folder to copy from it. Disk Utility wants to erase the disk and Toast can see the disk and if I had room I could write more to it.
Any help or ideas anyone has is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Give this one a try....
    http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/Dragon-Burn.shtml
Do just run it and go.....and do a fresh restart, run that app, then feed the CD - all in one shot, right after a reboot and don't run any other burn apps, feed in any other disks, etc.
If it mounts for DragonBurn, immediately create an image, then burn that to a blank DVD or export audio tracks to iTunes...don't try to pack it all back onto a CD.

  • Problem getting files off a disk

Hi, I have a DVD with data on it (not a film DVD) but can only get half the files off it. I get the error 36. Is there any app or way of somehow getting past this?
    thanks

I am quite sure it says on the label its IDE.  Would there be a difference in the connectors?  It's connector fit the IDE enclosures.
I plugged the drive into my MBP running 10.6.latest.  Eventually the drive mounted, I tried to access it via Finder, the bottom right hand monochrome spinner went on.  I tried to unmount the drive after maybe 10+ minutes, it balked saying the drive was in use.  I looked back at the Finder, which now showed the drives contents.  I tried to cancel the windows saying the drive wasn't ejected because it was in use, but such window was in use.  I dragged the important folders from the mounted drive to a new folder on the desktop.  The little file transfer windows popped up.  I now have two "Preparing to copy" listings for the two folders I tried to move, though it has been preparing to copy for about 5+ minutes now.

  • Getting files off ibook g3

i have a ibook g3 that powers on then i get the blue screen and spinning ball then nothing. i now have a brand new imac intel model. is it possible to get the files off the ibooks hard drive with it only partially starting up, to my imac any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If your hard drive spins up, it may be possible using FireWire Target Disk Mode:

I have never done this myself, but if you have questions, I'm sure the more knowledgeable members of the forum will be happy to help you.

  • Getting files off an early 2000's hard drive

My fiance has an early 2000's laptop that the screen is broke and no power cord.  I have removed the hard drive and put in an enclosure that works and is recognized by my pc at work but not able to see what's on it as it doesn't recognize the file structure.  I have hooked it up to my imac at home and nothing has happened.  What do i need to do to get the files off it?

A: does the HD spin up (listen for same) hooked to your Imac?
B: hooked to your Imac at home does the external HD show up in disk utility?
great job on yanking the HD from the dead Mac and tossing it into an enclosure. I hope its not a 'DYNEX' enclosure you bought at the local electronics retail shop

  • How can I get files off of a MacBook Pro stuck in sleep mode?

A bit of a backstory: Recently my mid-2008 MacBook Pro stopped working. When I try to boot it up, the screen just stays black and the idle light flashes perpetually. I've reset the NVRAM and SMC, even attached it to an external monitor, but nothing works. After a lot of research, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the hall effect switch.
But I digress; I don't actually need this computer repaired, as I have a second (newer) MacBook Pro I can use. However, there are some files on the old one that I'd like to retrieve. And yes, I've tried booting into target disk mode, which unfortunately doesn't work for reasons listed above.
Essentially what I'm asking is, is there a way I could transfer the files off the old computer to the new one? I know, I should take it to the Apple store, but that's not really an option right now due to personal reasons. I'd just like to know if anyone could suggest another way.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

Remove the drive and connect it to your other Mac with a SATA to USB adapter. Copy whatever files you want off the drive.

  • Detected ipod in "recovery mode" - Need to get files off it

I plugged my ipod nano 2g 4gb into computer and it says it needs to be restored, but I need to get files of it as I used it mainly as a memory stick. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? Have a look at the bottom section that suggests changing the drive letter assigned to the iPod in Windows Explorer. That may solve the problem without restoring: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore

  • Can't get files OFF Mi

    Hi,
I have a Creative Zen Micro and after formatting my computer I can't get any stuff
off of the Micro. The firmware version is 2.20.05 ...
Here's a screenshot of everything. I can only put files on the micro
through the MTP but not, for example Organize Music or swap
files between the PC and the Micro. When I click on that, the folder is just empty
as you can see. If I click on the other Micro icon under My Coputer,
the folders Music, My Playlist etc.. are like the ones the computer doesn't recognize as you can
see. ANd also if I just to check, want to update the firmware, it tells me, that
it can't find the player. I think when it said new hardware found witht he
mass storage thing, that I clicked something wrong.

    Hi sdog,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!'
May I ask how're you transferring your file to the Mac? Are you using a USB connection or by taking the memory out of the unit?
To answer your question, you can use a Mac computer to store your videos. You can either use the PlayMemories Home software or iMovie to import them.
Here is a step by step guide on how to import your files.
    Turn on the camera.
Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
Set the camera to Mass Storage or USB MODE.
NOTE: After the computer recognizes the connection, it will list the camera drive or drives as NO NAME orUNTITLED on the computer desktop.
Click the NO NAME or UNTITLED icon on the computer desktop.
    Locate the video files.
    For AVCHD video:
    For Standard Definition (SD) video:
    Click the PRIVATE folder.
    Click the AVCHD folder.
    Click the BDMV folder.
    Click the STREAM folder.
    For Mp4 files
    Click the MP_ROOT folder.
    Click the 101PNV01 folder.
On the keyboard, press and hold the Shift key.
While holding the Shift key, click to select the video clip files you want to transfer.
    Release the Shift key.
On the keyboard, press Command Button + C to copy the files.
Open the folder or directory on the computer where you want to copy the video.
On the keyboard, press Command Button +V to paste the files into the desired location.

  • How do I get files off Mac drive in Windows? (Mac drive is connected to PC)

My iMac became FUBAR about a month ago where when I went to boot it up I was greeted by a question mark over a folder, otherwise indicating my drive was not working. Since I had no warranty left on my iMac, I opened it up and took out the drive and connected it to my PC to see if I could retrieve anything off of it. I was lucky and the drive was somehow still alive and accessible. In Windows I am able to browse the Windows partition I created with BootCamp and copy those files just fine. What I was wondering was how do I go about accessing the Mac partitioned drive to get photos I have stored on there? I am using MacDrive 7 which is suppose to do this but gave me a bunch of folders and I didn't know where to go. Folders I tried accessing said I needed to format the drive in order to explore but that's no good. Any help? I really need these photos.

If you can access the drive using MacDrive, the path to your user home folder is
    <top level>/Users/<your short user name>/
I don't know of any way to access that drive, other than connecting it to another Mac.

  • How do you get files off a hard disk

I had this old macbook from 2007. It recently died on me but I want to get the flies and pictures off it. I now have a imac which a back up reguraly but would still like my old files. I have dicided not to ask a professional as he told me that he would charge per file and I only want a few.

Heres a detailed guide that shows you exactly how and how easy it us to remove the hard drive. http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Core+2+Duo+Hard+Drive+Replacement/514
As was mentioned above buy an inexpensive enclosure like this http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-2-5-Inch-External-Aluminum-Enclosure/dp/B00E362W9O /ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392581711&sr=8-1&keywords=2.5%22+hard+drive+enclosure and you'll have access to all of your files.

  • Getting files off ipod 30GB Used as storage device

I was shown how to put my files on to my ipod to save them to carry them from one computer to another, but the person who showed me this did not tell me how I could then get my files back off my ipod. Can anyone give me very simple directions on how to do this?

OK, the problem is when i put them on, on the other computer itunes did not show up, my ipod just showed up as a mass storage device, so i just dragged them over there and i saw that there are there so i know they are there. But when i plug it into my other computer it bring my itunes up and it doesn't show me anything but my music files. but when i look to see how much space i have left it shows that there is my stuff on there, but i can not click on it.Does that make sense? So how can i get it to open up like it did on the other computer?
