Getting files onto the iPhone
How can I get PDFs, JPEGS, and Word docs onto my iPhone, so that I can access those files from my iPhone?
Thanks!
You can get PDF, and MS Word documents to your phone through emails. You cannot save them to your phone, you can just store them on it until you delete the message which contains this or these files. If you want to save PDF or Word files to your iPhone then you have to buy some application which can able to do this. iTunes App Store offers many good application. You can find easily applications by topics. Download the right application for you and through this save the file or files that you want to your iPhone.
And yes, iPhone support PDF and Word files, that means that you can watch or read these files on your iPhone. If you are curious about the supported files on your iPhone then look up the iPhone's User's Manual on the support page and see that.

Getting Movies onto the iPhone
Hey all, it's me again.
I found a program to get Movies onto the iPhone, even though you have to at a cost. The cost is $30, and the package, where you can covert other media files, is like $50.
I only got the regular, since I don't want other media files on my iPhone.
But ****, it's a lot cheaper then paying for them through iTunes.
It's called Avex DvD to iPhone.
It works great, super fast, and the file size is about half of the other programs I've tested. Hope you guys like it!
Just letting you all know in-case you haven't tried yet.
- TheAppleGuyYes, this has been well discussed in this forum already, as a search would have brought up. You will also find many threads on using Visual Hub, Quicktime Pro, etc...
This thread might be deleted relatively soon, since badmouthing Apple or Apple products or iTunes tends to result in a quick yank...so I'll not add anything more for now. -
Air Drop program let us drop files onto the iPhone or iPad?
I could really use this feature for my school and work projects. I have school books I need to download onto my iPad, so I can read my chapters at work. It is to much of a hassel to hook the iPad up to my MacBookPro, turn on iTunes, move the books to my iTunes, then download them onto the iPad. Air Drop would be so much faster.
AirDrop can't send files to iOS devices, but you should submit your feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

Looking through the SDK it doesn't look like there is any way of syncing files onto the iPhone. You can request that a file be downloaded from a specified URL. That's not very user friendly though.
What I'd like to know is if there is a way of registering a file type to your app? e.g. pdf files open in the pdf viewer.
You can register different url types to your app as the lauchme sample code demonstrates. I see nothing for file types though. You can get PDF, and MS Word documents to your phone through emails. I recently purchased songs from itunes via my pc and I dont know how to get them onto my iphone? When I click the sync button it says I will lose all the music currently on my iphone.. Help
If you're syncing with a different iTunes library than the one you previously synced with, then there is no way around it. You're gonna loose the old data. The only way round it would be to make sure that all the music files on your iPhone is also in your iTunes library. If you still have access to the computer with the old library, you could copy the files on to an external harddrive, and then import them into your new iTunes library.
If it is in fact the same library, then the music currently on your iphone, is also in your itunes library. Just make sure that the artists/albums/playlists, or whatever you sync contains these tracks, that you allready have on your phone and don't want deleted. What i do is, i create a playlist specifically for my iPhone, and i set it up to only sync with this playlist. Whenever i hear a track from my iTunes library or buy a new track that i want on my phone, i just drag it to this playlist and next time i synchronize, it's there without deleting anything else. -
I imported an audio file from windows to itunes on my pc, how do i get that onto my iphone?
Welcome to the Apple community.
Assuming it's in the correct format, select your phone from the device list in iTunes on your computer, select the music tab and check the music you wish to sync. -
I have a G4 Quicksilver 2001 that no longer works, but the hd may still be good. How can I get files off the G4 hd and onto my new late 2013 iMac?
Also, how do I boot the G4 into FireWire Target Disk mode?
First, the G4 must be able to start to use FWTDM. If it can start, hold the t key at boot until you get a "screensaver pattern" that looks like this:
If the G4 is attached via a FireWire cable to a newer Mac with a FireWire port, the G4's hard drive will appear on the other Mac's desktop just as if it were any external drive. A USB cable won't work for FWTDM.
Just wondering if the drive in my G4, which I believe may be an ATA drive will also work in an enclosure for a SATA drive?
No. ATA (actually "PATA" or "IDE") and SATA are different interfaces. PATA external enclosures are now very hard to find. You best and least expensive option is the adaptor that BDAqua linked. One of its connectors is for PATA drives. -
WHen I choose an album, upload a file(s), just as the file(s) is uploaded the file I have chosen disappears and I am asked to choose album again. If I ignore this and drag a file onto the sceneline, I get the "where is the file " message" and when click on the file it is looking for I get the message "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed". I have made many little films before but always have this problem now. Any suggestions?

Although we are continents apart - Australia (Perth) vs North America (US), we will not let time zones interfere with getting your Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 working.
1. The usual Premiere Elements 8 drill.
a. Are the automatic features of Background Rendering and AutoAnalzyer turned Off?
For Background Rendering, see Premiere Elements workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/General. For AutoAnalzyer, see Elements Organizer workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalyzer Options.
b. Are you running the program from the 8.0.1 Update? If not, see Help Menu/Update?
c. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1?
Apple - QuickTime - Download
2. The usual computer drill....for your Windows XP 32 bit (SP3, I presume)
a. Is computer opitimized, defragmented, etc.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
b. Are you running your computer from a User Account with Administrative Privileges? That is important for Premiere Elements 8 as well as for its
required QuickTime. In addition, right click the computer desktop icon for Premiere Elements 8 and select and apply Run As Administrator.
3. Project Specifics
For now, import your source media into the project from the computer hard drive using the project's Get Media/Files and Folders. Leave the Elements Organizer and Albums out of the equation for now. We will circle back to it soon after we decide everything else is working as it should be.
a. You need to set a project preset. And, that project preset should match the properties of your source media. So important to know properties of source media.
b. When you import your source media into a project you will get a red line over its content if the project preset is not a match - either because you set the wrong one or the program does not have a match for your particular video. That red line means that you are not seeing the best possible preview of what is being played back in the Edit area monitor. To get the best possible preview, you hit the Enter key of the computer main keyboard to get a rendered Timeline (red line goes from red to green after this type of rendering). That green line over your rendered Timeline indicates that you are now getting the best possible preview. This is solely a preview thing. Longer story, but I will leave it at that for now.
c. Check Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks to assure that those Scratch Disks are being saved to a computer hard drive location with enough free space to accept them. Make sure that you do not have pile ups of previews files, conformed audio files, and conformed video files.
See Local Disk C\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Adobe\Premiere Elements\9.0
Never move, delete, or rename source files after they have been imported into a project which has been saved/closed. Otherwise, nasty media disconnect problems. You have only copies of media in Premiere Elements. The originals are on the hard drive, and the project must trace back to the originals where they were at import.
Based on the above, try to start a new project. But, let me know ahead of time what you will be importing into the project. I am looking for
Video
video compression
audio compression
frame size
frame rate
interlaced or progressive
pixel aspect ratio
If you do not know, we could try to get that type of information from knowing the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the video.
Photos
Pixel dimensions and how many photos?
Lots and lots of details, but eventually they all mellow into one workflow that you can customize for your projects.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions or to ask for clarification. We can go at whatever pace you feel comfortable with.

How do I get safari bookmarks to update onto the iPhone?
On my older iPhones, the Safari bookmarks always used to slurp up from my computer onto the phone so I could use them on the phone. Now, that does not happen, the bookmarks on the phone are old and never update when I plug my phone into iTunes to update.
What setting do I need to revisit to make Safari bookmarks update from the computer onto the iPhone?
TIA,
KenI do not subscribe to any other than the basic iCloud I am forced into having and I noticed also, in settings on the phone under 'info' in iTunes when the phone is plugged in, says that bookmarks are being updated through iCloud. This cannot be true as my bookmarks have not updated for a long time, I think since iCloud came into existence. Maybe this is an iCloud issue?
I don't want to fiddle with settings in the 'info' section as many of them say that there will be duplicates if I choose to use my computer as the source for updates. It is very dangerous as I already have duplicate calendar entries and suspect this has happened because of iCloud coming into the picture. It is very scary. -
Cant put H264 files onto my iphone or into itunes for playback?
Im using beyond TV DVR software, they released a new feature which will convert my DVR recordings into H264 mp4 files.
ok, that sounds awesome.
so I convert them, and just import them into itunes. easy enough!
but quicktime cant play the files it creates... when I click them, I just get a solid green image, not flashing like a google search turns up solutions for, and disableing directdraw does not fix it.
but none the less I push on. Ill just put it onto the iphone and see what it does.
no dice, when I try to sync it, I get a "this file format is not supported for playback on iphone" or something like that.
errrr ok...
well there is that fun little option in the drop down "convert selection for ipod". figure that cant hurt right?
well when that finishes I get a new file, but this one plays back with an all white screen and gives me clear audio. this one will sync to the iphone, but it plays an all black image with audio.
so... wth.
I want to assume the file that beyond tv is creating is incorrect right? but windows media player has no trouble with it at all. if I right click on the file properties, it is mp4 H264 codec.
having this ability sounded like the best thing since sliced bread, but I cant get it to work for the life of me...there is not a way to transfer those playlists to that itunes library from your phone, but heres an idea to help you out.
take screen shots of the playlists on your phone then when they get deleted after the sync you'll have to re-create them but at least you'll know what was in them -
Importing iPhoto files onto an iPhone 3G using iTunes question....
New! Importing iPhoto files onto an iPhone 3G with iTunes question
Posted: Aug 14, 2008 9:07 AM Reply Email
So letme get this striaght...
You first create an album in iPhoto 08 with just the images you want put onto your iPhone 3G.
NEXT: you connect tou iPhone 3G and iTunews will open. You go to the iPhone in iTunes and select the photo tag and then select the album you had made for import and sync it with you iPhone. Will large image files automatically be resized for use on the iPhone 3G?
Most of my .JPG files are from 4 -5 MB each in size. What will it do with a RAW image file?I am not 100% sure, but i BELIEVE that they do get resized because as it's syncing with the iPhone, iTunes will state that it is optimizing the selected photos for the iPhone, just like we would see for the iPod.

What is the best way to sync media onto the iPhone using iTunes?
I know of two ways- one is be simply dragging items onto the iphone folder. The other is by clicking the iphone folder and selecting which playlists, artists, ect I want to sync.
Is there any difference between the two?I have the same question: what is the best way to sync documents between mac devices?
But I want to be clear: normally when we use the word "synchronize" or "sync" we are referring to an automatic update to the latest version of the document, whatever the document.
Just to be clear: to "transfer" documents is not really the same as to "synchronize". I will add to the question here with my thoughts. Please excuse me if the om only wants to transfer documents.
We have tried, over many months, to use SugarSync. It worked great when I only put in about 10 files to be synced. It took the latest version and updated it on the other computers that were connected. But when we tried to sync the whole disk ... we just could NOT get it to work right. Meaning it would scan absolutely ALL of the files on the computer looking for the ones that were modified rather than just taking the lastest ones modified and syncing those. Their tech department was not much help: I followed all of the steps they told me to do but we just could not get it to work right. What a disapointment (and a loss of money).
I would love to find a software that automatically detects what the last modified files were and it will update ONLY that on the other devices (no matter what kind of files they are).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks -
What is the best way to move Contacts onto the iPhone?
Hi Guys,
I currently have Nokia N82, usually when i get a new Nokia (since am a TOO loyal customer) i just take a backup from the previous one and add it to the new one when i get! i hate copying to/from SIM...
Now when i want to get the iPhone what is the best way to move the Contacts??
i use a Windows machine, STILL!For the couple of iPhones I have access to, you've got three methods to get contacts onto the device aside from moving them onto the SIM; I have found that copying to and from SIMs can leave data fields not totally aligned.
(1) Via a cloud. One uses MobileMe (via iCal/Address Book entries) and the second uses an Exchange-based cloud. Both seem to work pretty well, although I do experience an occasional lag from time to time.
(2) Via a sync on a desktop. My preferred method. Connecting to iCal/Address Book>iTunes or Outlook 2007>iTunes work very well. My only issue was that Outlook didn't work as I'd expected the first time, just as with a couple of other phones in the past (it never did work with my Motorola Z9); to "fix" the issue, I simply refreshed Outlook's contacts and rebooted Outlook - I actually had to do the same thing with iCal to "blow out the pipes" and both sync conduits work fine now.
(3) Transfer Contacts to the iPhone via email using a vCard for each contact. I use version 3.0-compatible vCard files generated from Address Book or Entourage (Mac), Outlook or just about what my business contacts generate. Just about every platform has some unique data type, but I haven't received a vCard yet the iPhone can't handle via email.
Getting your Contacts out of the iPhone. Option (1) or (2) - that's it AFAIK. I hope this helps you out! -
I just noticed that some of the movies I had in iTunes did not get transferred to the iPhone 5. The missing movies are shown as generic movie icons in the iTunes panel and are checked to select them. But they do not show up in iPhone Videos. How do I get the original movies to show up again and transfer to the iPhone? I recently upgraded Mac OS to 10.6.8
1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

How do I store and delete files on the iphone
how do I store and delete files on the iphone
Files/documents need to be stored/associated within an app on the iPad, unlike 'normal' computers there is no file system which allows you to save files with no means of being able to read/use them. So if you want to store a file on the iPad you first need an app on the iPad that supports that file type.
How you then get the file onto the iPad and into the app will depend on what the app is and what transfer method(s) it supports. e.g. some apps use the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, some apps support the transfer of files via your wifi network, the iBooks app uses the Books section of your iTunes (and the device's Books tab) to sync content, and other transfer methods include email attachments, Dropbox etc. The file is then found by going into your chosen app and opening/using the file.
