Getting files to my mac from Win XP

Hi.
I'm trying to work out how I can get the files from my Win XP computer to my iMac. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and I don't have the slightest clue what to do beyond the following:
I've enabled SMB, done the whole process in the "Sharing" menu. I can see the Mac in my WinXP Workgroup, but I can't access it.
Basically, how do I access my Mac from my WinXP computer, and where do I go to get the files from my WinXP computer onto my Mac?
Sorry if this has been asked a million times, it's getting late.

Hi,
maybe this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1568 can help.
Regards
Stefan

  • Can't open .jsp files on my mac from a citrix link

    I can't open any .jsp files on my mac. It's from a citrix site for work but it doesn't recognize how to open it at all. It downloads to launch-10.jsp but nothing happens. When you try to open it, it says it doesn't recognize the file type.

    Go to the App store and download The Unarchiver. Its free and will open most file types.

  • How to access Files / Folders on Mac from XP Laptop Using wireless network?

    Hello, I have successfully set up my iMac and XP laptop to access the web via a wireless router. However I am wondering if there is a way for me to wirelessly connect to my files and folders on the Mac from the XP laptop? I am going nuts trying to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    You can find lots of useful information on iFelix's page "Sharing files between a Windows XP PC and a Mac running OS 10.4.x".
    If the folder you want to share isn't viaible, you can use SharePoints to make any folder available to share.

  • Get back to Mac from Win 7

    I'm not sure how I managed to do this but...
    I deleted my VmareFusion partition with win7, and vmware fusion.
    Then I upgraded to Lion.
    Then...
    I created a new partition using Bootcamp assistant and then re-installed Win7.
    At some point, when I was away from the computer, it turned off.
    I restarted it and went into system preferences and set it to boot to the new partition and then rebooted it,
    and it completed the Win7 install.
    But now I cannot get back to Mac. It only boots up to win7.
    I am working away from home and do not have my snow leopard startup disk..
    How can I get back to Mac, and properly set it up to ask me which partition to boot from upon startup?
    Thanks.

    Boot your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option-key until the Boot Selection screen is shown.
    Choose your OSX to boot from.
    Once in OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.

  • SMB sharing, accessing files on my mac from windows xp

    Hey, I have my mac, 10.5.1, sharing a folder in my documents folder using SMB. I access it from my windows machine and some of the files are locked and cannot be accessed. How can i fix that? When i use ls -l it shows up the files but some don't have rwx on all the permissions. also there is a + or @ sign after most of them, what is that? Any one know how to make it so my xp machine can read and write files back to my mac using smb? thanks

    It's hard to go further without getting into the nitty gritty of your network. Have you considered setting up a unique user as the owner of the files you need to share, and actually have the Windows users sign on to the Mac as that user? Also, only the 'share' user would manipulate the files from the Mac side.

  • Opening files on a Mac from a PC

    My company recently switched me from a PC to a Mac. I am having issues opening any InDesign file. I am not however experiencing problems opening any files on the other platforms (photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver etc.). I am using the trial version of the software on my mac while we await our licensing to arrive in the mail. Any guesses as to what can be going wrong? (CS5.5)

    Quit InDesign (force quit, if necessary).
    Move the following folder to the desktop:
    Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING
    Note: This is in the Library folder on the root of your startup disk. There is a similar path in your user folder, but that is not the path you need to work in.
    reopen the file and check
    That did work! Thanks! But can you explain Why we had to do this? Will the file have to remail on the desktop? Is there anything worng with this version of Indesign? Out IT Guys said he would hav enever have thought to do that. Is there any underlying issues we should be looking into?

  • Get file name and path from  adf inputFile

    Hi,
    I use adf's inputFile component. I need to get the file name and filePath. Does anyone knows how to do that?
    Thanks in advance

    You may bind the value to an UploadedFile object and get the name from this object.
    You may use a valueChangeListener backin bean method or a managed bean.
    Here the code i just write for something similar. Note that i'm not able to test it because of a bug in 10.1.3.1 with inputFile and web.xml parameters. I still waiting for the patch.
    public void uploadedFile(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) throws IOException,
    Exception {
    final int BUFFER = 2048;
    byte data[] = new byte[BUFFER];
    int currentByte;
    String fileName;
    UploadedFile uploadedFile =
    (UploadedFile)valueChangeEvent.getNewValue();
    if (uploadedFile != null) {
    String mimeType = uploadedFile.getContentType();
    if (mimeType == "application/x-zip-compressed") {
    // get the uploaded file as a zip file
    ZipFile zipFile = new ZipFile(uploadedFile.getFilename());
    // verify the zip archive contains only one entry

    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();

  • Transferring files to new Mac from pc

    Hi, our old PC recently crashed and we have now "seen the light" and bought a new mac. Luckily, we were able to get a back-up of the hard drive of the old PC. I was wondering how to get my music from the back-up discs of my PC into I -tunes on my mac. I have seen lots of posts on new computers, but all seem to tell me to consolidate my old library etc. - which I don't have the option of doing. I tried moving my new music folder (albums I've bought on the new mac) to the desktop and copying the I-tunes folder to the music directory on the new machine, but when i open i-tunes it did not find any of the old music.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Is there a way of getting files created in iWeb09 from my iDisk into iWeb11 on my MacBook

    When my MacBook was repaired Apple updated OS X and iLife. I had 2 web sites created in iWeb09 and published on my MobileMe account. They are still accessible on the net but are not visible in iWeb11. How can I download the files into iWeb11 for editing and publishing?

    You didn't have a backup of your MacBook's hard drive when it had to be replaced?  If you do look in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to see if the Doman.sites2 file is there.  If it is drag it to the same folder on your new hard drive and open with iWeb.  That should give you your old sites back.
    If you don't have a backup then you'll have to do what QTKirt pointed out.  However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the creation of the new site.
