Getting Firefox.exe Application Error on closing firefox

<i>Locking duplicate thread.<br>Please continue here: [[/questions/1002236]]</i>
Hi I have Firefox Browser 29.0.1 and on Windows XP - and I am the least tech savvy person ever. Every time I close The Browser / Firefox I get a pop-up screen Firefox.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x0301230e" referenced memory at "0x00000004", The memory could not be "read" click on OK to terminate the program. It dosen't appear to be affecting the operation of anything, but is annoying, regardless of whether I click OK or just close the box with "X" nothing happens - but I'd like to get rid of this, if possible

Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*'''Windows:'''
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.

    Then it says the Instruction at "0x798377a9" referenced memory at "0x798377a9". The memory could not be "written".
    Click on OK to termintate the program
    What does this mean? And why cant I use Firefox. I can still use internet explorer just fine.

    Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • Firefox.exe application error, tried uninstalling firefox but will not delete Scriptff.dll says access is denied. so i can't make a complete clean reinstall. how do i fix this?? thanks!

    saw in previous questions that to fix this application error, i need to uninstall and do a clean install of firefox. however, Scriptff.dll says that access is denied and can not be deleted from the program files. how can i fix this so i can run a clean install?

    Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
    This happens the same whenever I try to install.
    To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
    My plugin is still showing as out of date.
    Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

    Hello Gayle.
    Try running Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] to disable all add-ons. It's possible that some is causing troubles. You can enable them one at a time to find the culprit.
    If that doesn't work, have you tried reinstalling Firefox?

  • When I open Firefox I get this error-firefox.exe application error the instruction at 0x02c38690 referenced memory at 0x02c38690 the memory could not be written

    When I open Firefox I get the following error: firefox.exe application error - The instruction at 0x02c38690 referenced memory at 0x02c38690 - The memory could not be written - Click on OK to terminate the program.
    If you click on OK it closes Firefox - You can not reopen Firefox until you reboot the computer. Then it starts all over again.
    The same happens if I click the "X" instead on the error window.

    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
    * [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • I get firefox.exe Application Error memory could ot be read, instruction 0x10008d37.

    When I first open firefox, a window opens in the center of the screen. The title of the window is firefox.exe-Application Error there is a red circle with a white x on the left side of the box. Written in the box is: The instruction at 0x10008d37 referenced memory at 0xfffffff. The memory could not be read. then it gives two choices. Click on ok to terminate the program or Click on cancel to debug the program. Cancel and ok shuts down firefox. If you move the box out of the way, you can use firefox to surf the net.

    Thanks for the advice. I am afraid I may have bigger issues than my initial problem. I have not been able to load Firefox 8. It will go through the initial steps, then stop, without completing the update. I will try again after i figure out how to get 8 loaded.

  • Firefox.exe-application error. the application failed to initialize (0xe06d7363)

    The icon for Firefox 5 when pressed will show the following message firefox.exe-application error. the application failed to initialize (0xe06d7363) It does that 90% of the time then other times starts right up.

    You should never respond to such unrequested pop-ups.
    Doing that is the way to get malware as no decent program would use such methods to inform you about that.
    Always use a close X to close such a pop-up and never click a button.
    If you want to install malware then you make all buttons do that including a No or Cancel button.
    Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
    You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
    Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

    You do not need to start Firefox to disable the Java Quick Starter, you can do that via the Java Control Panel (Control Panel > Java > Advanced)
    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
