Getting Firefox shewing up 60% of 64bit CPU with script "chrome://crossriderapp2258/...." running and NOT responding!

Even after uninstalling, reinstalling Firefox, the Firefox profile folder is empty, and I get the message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." I have followed all the directions I can find, on my computer and Firefox Support. Still, the same message comes up, and "firefox" is not shown in my Windows Task Manager.
What can I do?Delete the profiles.ini file and let Firefox create a new default profile.

Whenever I open a blank tab I'm taken to some page where I can search the web with a search engine called Bing. This isn't a major problem but it causes a LOT of annoyance since the cursor is right in the search engine box and not in the address bar like before. Like I said, not a major problem, just annoying and I'd like it fixed if I can.

In our newsroom environment, staff prefers to have MP3s from various download sources open directly in an outside program's window (in this case Goldwave is the preferred program). That being said, with the newer version (36 specifically) the behavior of the program has changed so that MP3s are opening in a separate browser tab, regardless of the preferences in the "Applications" window of the Options as well as the program defaults within Windows. Previous adjustments made to about:config media.windows-media-foundation.enabled as well as media.directshow.enabled and setting to "False" no longer solve this issue.

With about 1500 bookmarks and just 4 active Firefox extensions on my new laptop (Dell XPS L502, Core i7, 6GB of RAM, Win7 64-bit Ultimate) my Firefox boots up and works real slow. by slow I mean it boots up in 15 seconds; and with 3 tabs open when I switch tabs, it takes 5 seconds to switch to the new tab some of the times!). Firefox is Already Running But Not Responding linux
Hi,
I am new to Linux, so know nothing about it. I try and open firefox from the desktop and it says that it is already running and not responding.
How do I solve this problem - as I know nothing about Linux a dummies guide would be great.I get the same problem on my Linux system, it says firefox is running and I can't get online although my email is working and msn, does anyone know how I can get online

I'm having this problem, everytime i click a link on other program, like the program's link on the about tab, or a youtube link on Live Messenger, it won't open, a dialog pops up saying firefox is already running and not responding, but it is there, and working.

I run Firefox 29.0.1 on Windows 7 (64 bit) and I get the "Firefox is already running but not responding. In order to open the program you must close the existing window." error. EVERY TIME I try to start Firefox. The posted solution works to start the program, but it is not a permanent solution. I go through the Task Manager and end the old Firefox process, then I can open a new window. While working, I can open multiple tabs and multiple windows, everything seems to (usually) work the way it should. Then after I completely exit Firefox, in order to open the program again I need to fix the SAME error again. Every time. It doesn't seem to hurt anything really, but it is quite annoying.
I used to get this same error on some of the older Firefox versions but it was only once in a while. With the new 29.0.1 it is literally EVERY TIME I TRY TO RUN FIREFOX!!!!
So, down to the big question: is there a permanent fix for this yet? Or will there be one included in the next version update? Or am I going to have to go back to Internet Explorer? I know I am not alone in this experience; i've seen several other users posting similar questions but none of them received satisfactory answers. When I try to start Firefox, I get a message that it is already running, but not responding and that I should close it before trying to run another Firefox. But I cannot find a way to close Firefox program that is not running as far as I can see. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, but that did not work. I've tried various other things, but no luck. I thought programs should stop when the computer is turned off, but that didn't work either.

Even when I start firefox I have to sit here and wait for it to tell me a script on this page is not responding or has quit working. Once that happens which takes a while, I can say stop script and it moves on. I've always liked using firefox and have never had a problem in the past, however if I can't get this particular problem fixed, and I've tried many ways to do this, I may have to change to another browser. I would hope that you could find out why this is happening to me before I make that decision. One other thing, I am using the dreaded Vista OS.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

Brand new Lenovo computer, Windows 7 Home. New install of Firefox 6.0.1, set as default browser, don't launch when I click done. Icon appears in tray. I click the icon, and a message says "firefox is running but not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing process, or reboot". It's not obviously running. I can't find a way to make it quit. Task manager doesn't list it as a current application. Uninstall using the control panel uninstall function and then reinstalling gives the same message. Rebooting doesn't fix the problem and gives the same message. Firefox had been working until I tried to update my bookmarks.
No can do. I can delete the current profile and install Firefox, which should create a new blank profile. The message still says "Firefox is already running." I can place my old profile in the proper folder, and Firefox will still be already running. I can't actually use Firefox, because even though the message says it is running, there is nothing on the screen I can access.
After uninstalling Firefox, deleting the two items left in the Programs folder, and deleting the profile again, it still didn't work. I then got frisky and from the Roaming folder I deleted the Mozilla folder which contains the Firefox folder which contains the now empty Profiles folder. That worked, and a new set of folders with a new blank profile were created. So apparently it was the empty folders that never got deleted that were causing the issue.
