Getting Flip4Mac v 2.0.2 working on your Intel Mac

As some of you know, Flip4Mac version 2.0.1 works fine on the intel machines when operating either Safari and/or QT under Rosetta - depending on what you want to achieve. Previously installation issues were rectified in the OS 10.4.5 update.
Flip4Mac has now gone and released a better version (2.0.2), however anyone with an intel machine whose tried to install Flip4Mac's latest version has found that it will not install correctly.
Here's a work-around following conversations with the Flip4Mac folks:
Go to flip4mac.com and download their latest release. Note that it is not a Universal application - that release is expected sometime next month, according to the company. The download is packaged as a Disk Image (dmg) file, like most Mac applications, and contains a mpkg file, which is an installation package. Unlike most Mac bundled apps, which install with a simple drag and drop, the installer must be launched. Launching the mpkg will return a failure everytime.
Now that you've downloaded the file, mount the disk image and navigate to Appications/Utilities. Find the application called "Installer," and either right-click or Apple+click to get the context menu. Select "Get Info." Beneath the color labels you'll notice a checkbox that reads "Open Using Rosetta." Check it.
Navigate back to the Flip4Mac disk image and run the installer. It will launch just fine. Install Flip4Mac. Close the installer. At this point, you should go back and change the "Installer" application so that it no longer runs using Rosetta.
Now, open either Safari or QT under Rosetta (depending on your needs) and off you go...

I'm assuming you are running your QT Player under Rosetta correct? I'd be interested to know if that errors occurs with all .wmv files you try. If your Flip4Mac component is correctly installed and your QT Player is set to operate in Rosetta, you should not be getting 2048 errors with all of your wmv files.
Also, do any of these files play in Windows Media Player?
Have you tried Popwire?

Lastly, I got so tired of F4M and what Rosetta did to playback on my QT Player, I simply started drop-converting all my wmv files with iSquint:

  • Will a Saittek Eclipse usb keyboard work with an Intel Mac Mini?

The Saittek Eclipse is my favorite keyboard.
Anybody know if it will work with an Intel Mac Mini.
Box only says Windows, but I'm just wondering if everything except volume controls will work fine? (it is also illuminated, with a light level control, but I'm guessing this shouldn't matter with Windows vs OS X?)

I am a writer though  and a photographer (strictly point and shoot) for a couple of orgs.  I just don't want o run out of space.  And I hate!! slow response time.
Is the i5 adequate as well?
Glad to have found an Apple guru so quickly.  May very well buc you more in the future.

  • How do I get a 2GB jaz drive to work with a mini mac?

I have a Microtech adapter (usb to scsi 25pin adapter) to hook a 2GB jaz drive to a Belkin Hub. I insert a 2GB jaz disk into the jaz drive and can't get the disk to show up on the desktop. Have the latest Iomega driver installed on the computer. Help!

the reason is simple if you have a intel based mac and the disk was formated in mac os 9.2.2 or later the disk will not work because the intel based mac doesn't recognize mac os 9 drivers because the mac mini intel based doesn't use classic

  • Flash Player 10.2.153.1 upgrade not working on 64bit Intel-Mac in Safari 5.0.4

I feel robbed! I want to use my Safari.
The latest upgrade of Flash player does not work.
I don't even remember downloading it, it must've been an automatic update!
I can not play youtube videos nor can I play any games on Facebook.
Who knows what is not working in my Avid!! I have not been working on that lately.
The flash player still works on FireFox, but i have no intention on switching to that.
The first aid has been run a few times.
It will download the free flash player for Intel Mac and it says the install is successful, but it is not there.
I have CS4 and it never bothered or disrupted the free flash player before.
I uninstalled it just in case and nearly lost it! When I tried to reinstall Flash, it said my disc to was blank!
Luckily, a friend in the business of fixing computers was able to get that back! whew.
The flash player from the CS4 is showing up in a folder and will even open when clicked on, but it does nothing. It is version 10.0 r2.
When I go to the place where they say to "see what version of flash you have"
I just get that icon that says to "Get Adobe Flash player".
It down not show the suggested "missing plug-in" pictures.
Yes, I read there is compatibility issues with the 64 bit Mac, but it always worked before!!!
    Help!! Please!!

So the Shockwave Flash plugin in FF is Installed and Enabled. That's why Flash Player is working and why you were able to see the Flash Player logo animation. On the other hand, evidently the Shockwave Flash plugin is either not Installed in Safari or if it is it is Disabled. And that is why it's not working and you can't see the Flash Player logo.
Yes, I know Flash Player can be Installed in any supported 64bit OS. Also I thot that the 64bit browser in Mac was the "default" browser and the "Compatibility layer" had to be used. Similiar to the PC IE8 or IE9, switching over to the Compatibility feature in the browser.
Do you need to activate the Compatibility feature?  I have had other Mac users tell me that their problem was they were using the 64bit browser and found out they had to use the 32bit browser, so I thot it was something they had to do. I would think if it was automatic they would not have had to "do" anything. But like I said I don't use Mac so can only relate what they tell me.
With Safari on either of the test sites, no Flash Player version was displayed?
Look into the HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ directory and see if you have the below two files:
    Flash Player.plugin, flashplayer.xpt
After that see if this thread is of any help: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2725949#2725949

  • Does macromedia FLV export plugin work with macpro (intel macs)?

i have a macpro, flash professional and quicktime pro. flash professional comes with a FLV quicktime plugin that lets you export to FLV from quicktime. the plugin is installed and is in the quicktime plugin folder but the export option does not appear in the export drop down.
i have the same set up on a PPC mac and i have no problems with exporting FLVs from quicktime pro.
i have the feeling that the plugin doesn't work on intel macs but don't know for sure. is there anyone here who is running an intel mac, quicktime pro and flash professional that can export to FLV from quicktime?
i can't find any information anywhere on this.
    thanks

anyone? there's got to be a few of you who have macpro's that are using quicktime pro and flash 8 professional....
    any help would be appreciated.

  • Does it work with 17inch Intel Macs

    Hey
I was just wondering if the new AirPort Extreme Base Station works with the 17 inch Intel Mac. I heard some people say that it wasnt compatible with these computer. Just wanted to know before i thought about buying one.
    Thanks

The new AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) will work with your 17-in iMac, but, not at 802.11n, since your iMac is not "n" ready. It will, however, work if the AEBSn radio mode is set for 802.11b/g compatibility. (ref: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=5F3 1E0A1&nplm=D4141ZM%2FA)

  • Will 'old' PowerPC iMovie plugins work on an Intel Mac

If I have 3rd party iMovie plugins which were made for OS 10.3 etc, I was wondering if these would work on an Intel based Mac (which I'm thinking of buying).
Does anyone know if new versions must be made with universal binaries? Or if the PowerPC translator thing will sort it out.
I'm posting this to the iMovie 6 forum as Intel Macs won't run anything else.
    Stuart

I don't think so. I had some Slick transitions and effects installed on my 10.3 machine, and migrating them to my new iMac Intel caused iMovie HD to load with error messages concerning the plug-ins. Once I removed them, the application worked just fine, so my conclusion is that the older versions are not compatible with the new Intel-based machine.

  • Does FLV export plugin work with macpro (intel macs)?

i have a macpro (intel based mac), flash 8 professional and
quicktime pro. flash 8 professional comes the FLV quicktime plugin
that lets you export to FLV from quicktime. the plugin is installed
and is in the quicktime plugin folder but the export option does
not appear in the export drop down.
i have the same set up on a PPC mac and i have no problems
with exporting FLVs from quicktime pro.
i have the feeling that the plugin doesn't work on intel macs
but don't know for sure. is there anyone here who is running an
intel mac, quicktime pro and flash professional? if so, does the
FLV option appear in quicktime's export drop down?
i can't find any information anywhere on this.
    thanks

    thanks.
i can use the flv encoder fine BUT flash pro 8 installs a
quicktime plugin that allows any app that exports using the
quicktime engine to save as flvs. on my non intel mac i can open up
a video in quicktime pro, select export and choose FLV. on the
intel i can't do that because the FLV option is not appearing in
the export drop down. i checked the pluging and it is installed but
it's not appearing as an export option.
i'm trying to check to see if others are experiencing the
same problem. is the flv plugin not compatible with intel macs? is
    it compatible with quicktime7? etc.

  • Can I get my Laserwriter Select 360 to work on my intel iMac?

I have a new Intel iMac running 10.4.8. I want to use my Apple Laserwriter Select 360 with the iMac connecting via an Ethernet to Local Talk bridge (Assantetalk) via my net gear router. The driver comes up in the printer list, but it comes up with an error -50 and won't select?
Is this possible to get working?
    thanks
    iMac Intel 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It doesn't look like appletalk is an option when I go to network preference configurations- just Bluetooth,Built-in Ethernet, Built-in Firewire and Airport. The Apple Laserwriter Select is very old with an appletalk connection. Does the Imac have a port for that kind of connection?

  • HT3771 Hi, I cannot get my HP2200dn to work with my Intel macs after updating to Snow Leopard

Since installing Snow Leopard I can only print using my HP Laserjet 2200dn mono laser printer if I print via my old G4 which is running Tiger.
The G4 has the HP printer as a shared printer and is connected using Appletalk.
Obviously this is very inconvenient as the old G4 is not always on!
I have downloaded and installed two lots of Apple printer driver updates, along with the latest version of Gutenprint.
I have tried resetting the printing system, all to no avail.
No matter what I try the printer keeps pausing before doing anything and pauses again within a few seconds of restarting.
I have tried various printer drivers with no effect, including the Gutenprint one.
    Any help gratefully received!

Thank YOU for notifying us of the solution that worked.  Very much appreciated.  May work for other users with the same issue as yourself.

I need that codec and i cant seem to get flip4for mac to work.
Can you explain how to do it if possible?

VLC will work as a plugin for Firefox only. I have not tried such a setup, so I don't know if it actually works.
Here is a link to the documentation for VLC talking about plugins:

  • Why am I getting midi conflict/sample rate errors. GarageBand 10 intel mac

Why am I getting midi conflict sample rate errors with no connected midi device?

Ok, I'll answer this myself. It has nothing much to do with midi devices being in conflict with anything. Nothing much to do with midi devices, as such, in fact. What it seems to be is a slow running system, whether it be processor, or hard disk, or whatever. In fact, when I found the cause of the problem, it was easy to solve.
What I saw a few times throughout this episode, was an inacurate sample rate report, which caused Garageband to run and react slowly, causing stuttering and flutter in audio output, so that noises were produced as the program struggled to handle the data streams it was reading and trying to reproduce and output cohesively. All of that was caused, it seems, by my iMac overworking and getting a bit too hot for comfort, having run all day, and multitasking for a good deal of it. I didn't adjust I/O buffering, or take any of the usual 'advised action' I've read from other users.
I simply saved my work and shut down the machine for an hour or two. When I restarted the machine, all had returned to normal. The lesson is, it seems to me, is minimise, or, stop other tasks the machine is carrying out. Safari, in particular, seems to be a major drain on resources, so work without it running. Shut down all unecessary programs and tasks, and run Garageband alone, when working in it. Garageband is a much tamer beast when it's left alone to do what you ask of it. It's quite a sensitive little soul. :-)

  • Does FCP 3 work on an intel mac?

Will it work on an MacBook Pro running MAC OS X 10.6.8 with a 2.66 ghz intel core 2 duo. 4gb ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M video card?
I am getting conflicting advice elsewhere.
    Thanks.

With such an old Final Cut Pro version, I doubt he will have serious problems. Note that Final Cut Pro 3 is designed to work with G4 Macs that were released before 2005, so the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GPU, although it is an integrated GPU and it is not the best GPU for video editing, should work (it is even compatible with the latest Final Cut Pro)
