Getting HD Video off P2 Card??

Hi video genius friends!
I have a Panasonic AG-HVX200 & 300P camera setup in the studio.  For years we have been recording SD (480), but now, with the new branding, we'd like to upgrade and use some more of these camera's potential!!
Anyway, I have a P2 card in each camera and have the video set at 1080i/60.  It records, and I can view the video in the thumbnail preview, however, how do I get the video off the card without a P2 card reader?
In both manuals for the camers, it mentions the possibility of 'mounting the card contents' on my desktop, however, when I do the best I get is a file folder content and what looks to be .MXF files.
Can I either:
1. utilize these .MXF files?  It doesn't matter if the audio and video are separated since I'm recording audio separate anyway.
2. Convert the P2 data into a standalone video prior to exporting?
Thanks for any and all help!!
Justin

Hey Justin,
Panasonic P2 cameras have always used the .XMF format that includes up to 8^ sound tracks. If you do not have a P2 Reader you can plug your camera using the FireWire 400 to 800. Make sure your camera is off before you plug in the cable to your camera or computer. The same when you unplug it since FireWire ports are kind of sensitive, and they are very expensive to fix. When you plug in your camera you can either go straight to final cut or import the files to your computer. (usually external hard drive to save space).
So yes XML. will work with Final Cut Pro, and you do not need a card reader.
Let me know if this is helpful?
Thanks,
David

  • Trying to get the video off my MD216

    Hello,
Total noob here, so apologies if I ask stupid questions.
I have a Canon MD216. A couple of weekends ago I went motorcycle racing and my wife used it to take some video of the event. We'd like to get the video off the camcorder and onto my OSX 10.7.5 Mac.
So I read the manual that said the drivers were in with MacOS since version 9 and I dutifully plugged in my firewire cable. Nothing. The Mac doesn't recognise that the camcorder is there at all.
Is there any way to get the video off my MD216?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Cheers

  • How do I get the videos off of my iCloud onto my phones photo center?

My friend shared videos of a birthday party and I tried to download them from the iCloud to my iPhone 5 but there was no option to do so.  The pictures came over easily but I can't figure out how to get the videos.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hello again, kennis32.
Thanks for provide an update on your issue so far. This supplemental article provides some good pointers for not seeing PhotoStream on your Mac:
iCloud: Get help using My Photo Stream
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3989
I would first review the information here:
I don't see any photos in the My Photo Stream view of iPhoto or Aperture.
Make sure your Mac has an active Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. If you can't connect to the Internet, updates to My Photo Stream won't appear in iPhoto or Aperture. You can use these steps to troubleshoot your Internet connection on your Mac.
From your Mac, choose System Preferences > iCloud.
Make sure that the Photo Stream checkbox is selected and you're signed in to the same iCloud account that you're using on your other supported devices.
Open iPhoto or Aperture, then choose Preferences > iCloud (or Photo Stream).
If you're using iPhoto 9.4 or later or Aperture 3.4 or later, make sure that My Photo Stream is selected. If you want all new photos that you upload to your iPhoto or Aperture library to upload to My Photo Stream, select Automatic Upload.
If you're using iPhoto 9.2.2 through 9.3.2, or Aperture 3.2.3 through 3.3.2, select Enable Photo Stream and Automatic Import.
If the issue still persists, then use these steps to toggle PhotoStream off and on:
I see different photos in My Photo Stream on each of my devices.
Your device will keep up to 1000 photos, even if they're older than 30 days. Photos older than 30 days are removed from the iCloud server, so your devices might not have the same photos, depending on when you enabled My Photo Stream. Due to storage limitations, your Apple TV might display only your most recent photos.
If you want to have the most current photos in My Photo Stream on each of your devices and delete the older photos:
If there are any photos in My Photo Stream that you want to keep, save them to your Camera Roll, then back up your Camera Roll and other data using iCloud or iTunes.
Turn My Photo Stream off in Settings > iCloud > Photos (or Photo Stream in iOS 6).
Confirm that you wish to Delete Photos.
Turn My Photo Stream back on. iCloud will automatically push your stored photos to your device.
Repeat these steps for each device.
    Cheers,
    Pedro

  • HT4528 How do I get my videos off onto a DVD

I am trying to figure out how to get my videos onto a DVD. I did get them onto one but why can't I view these videos on my Playstation3?

Home movies right? Ones taken by iPhone I assume??
Once you've put the video file on your Mac or PC you need software to convert that file to a readable DVD file and then burn software to burn it to the DVD... If you burned just a straight .mov file to a DVD I'm not sure PS3 has the codec to play that, however, if you burn as a DVD format with Video and Auido TS folders... it plays fine...
    What steps have you tried.

  • Trying to get my videos off iphone and onto a dvd

So I have a few questions..if anyone can help its so much appreciated!
I am trying to get my iphoto videos onto a dvd with my macbook pro. Just bought IDVD. I made a dvd with a few clips just to make sure it worked and it worked good except....
    1. Do I really have to go to my external harddrive each time to import a video--I have 5 years worth so this takes to long. I tried to drag and drop from "Finder" but  it would not work for me. Any other ideas?
    2. When I put the dvd into my dvd player it worked although I had to go to the main menu for each video(some clips are very short) Is there a way before I complete the burn dvd process to set it where the videos run continously?
    3. The audio is a little low on the videos--anyway to make it louder(other than turning the tv up!?)
    thank you:)

  • HT1349 I have an iPad (1).  Connected a camera connection kit, then inserted a SDHC card.  Nothing happened.  How do I get the photos off the card onto the iPad?

I have an iPad (1).  Trying to load photos.  Connected a camera kit, inserted an SDHC card with photos.  Nothing....  How do I get the photos loaded onto the iPad?

    rSH8745-
At first glance, your iPad should have reacted to the presence of the SDHC card.
Are you sure the card is SDHC and not SDXC?  I do not think the newer XC format is compatible with the SD adapter in the Camera Connection Kit.
How did the photos get on the card?  The iPad expects them to be in the same format as if they had been stored there by the camera.  They should be in a folder named DCIS.  Their file names should have 8 characters plus suffix.
Have you tried connecting the camera's USB cable to the USB adapter in the Camera Connection Kit?

  • I can't get this video off of my iPhone

I recently rented Unforgiven (less than great acting but beautiful character arc!) but when I went to put it on my phone, it stopped at the very end of the process. An error message was displayed saying that the transfer had failed. I figured this wouldn't be a big problem; I'd just try it again. The issue, I discovered, was really that it really had transferred the data, but failed to identify it as a video. Now I have over a Gig of memory being wasted in the 'Other' category and can't seem to find a way to rid myself of it without deleting all my other information. Is it possible to rid myself of this unusable data without also riding myself of my copious notes and bookmarks?

iTunes creates and maintains a backup of your iPhone, which stores the following data; your iPhone settings, SMS messages, notes created with the Notes application, cites tracked with the Weather widget, stocks tracked with the Stocks widget, recent calls, call favorites, visual voicemail, photos captured by your iPhone - but I wouldn't depend on this one. Photos captured by your iPhone should be imported to your computer just as with any other digital camera. Basically, the backup stores all data not included with the iTunes sync process.
Your iPhone's backup is updated during the sync process is any of this data has changes since the last sync - as the very first step during the sync process.
iTunes content, photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone, contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks should remain on your computer.
The only way to fix this particular problem is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes. Be sure to sync your iPhone with iTunes immediately before restoring to update your iPhone's backup if needed, and import any photos that were captured by your iPhone to your computer.
The restore process completely erases your iPhone, and then re-installs the current firmware version, which is 1.1.4. After firmware 1.1.4 is re-installed, you will be prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup - which is the default. After your iPhone is restored from your iPhone's backup, this must be followed by a sync to transfer your selected iTunes content, contact information, calendar events, bookmarks, and photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone if any.

  • Way to get songs/video off iPod?

My computer crashed a few days ago and I lost everything. I've found programs before that allowed you to add your music back into iTunes using your iPod but I don't remember them, can someone help me out with this?

iPodAgent for Windows, copypod, yamipod to name a few. If you are using iTunes 7.0, you can transfer your purchased content from your iPod back to your library. I would STRONGLY SUGGEST that once you recover everything, you begin a regular backup program for your library, so you don't have to go through this aggravation, again.

  • How to get video off my camera into iMovie

I now have a MacBook with the 08 release of iLife. I would like to get the video off my camcorder and into iLife to save the movies (primary) and play/edit with them (secondary).
However, here's the catch. My camcorder is an older hand-me-down. The only ports on it are s-video and "headphone" jack for audio. I have an adapter for my Windows box (shudder) that lets me do it, but I'd really like to use my Mac for that stuff and that adapter isn't marked mac-compatible.
anybody have any ideas? i've seen these Dazzle things in Best Buy, but they smell Windows-only. There's got to be SOMETHING that would allow me to get svideo sources recorded ... right?

If you know someone with a digital camera (miniDV) with appropriate ports you pay be able to use it to pass your video through, although you may need to record to the miniDV tape first.

  • HT1535 Getting videos off of ipad that have been lost on laptop.

My back up drive has recently failed. I had videos on there (as my laptop memory was full) that I put on to my ipad. Now my back up drive has died, and after a failed attempt to recover my data i am worried that if I now sync my ipad I will lose these videos! Is there anyway i can get these videos off of my ipad? These are very important videos, as a dance teacher and I am researching every possible route to try and save them! This is an Ipad 3 by the way

  • How  do you get your videos on the phone memory to your computer??

I can't get my videos stored in my phone memory to my computer or sd card. I got a replacement phone, but I'm trying to get the videos off my old phone. I called tech support, but they were no help. Can anyone  help me?

You should be able to plug in the phone to your pc via a usb cord and select to use it as a disk (you select this on the phone, not the pc). You can then view the phone's directory just like an external hard drive from Windows explorer. Then find the folder in the phone's directory and copy and paste the folder or the video files in the folder to the hard drive on the pc.
