Getting High cpu in s720 due to snmp(Prime)
Hi Team,
We are getting high cpu Spike in our all distribution switches in many locations.
Also we found our Cisco prime infrastructure causing the high cpu.but the spike only for 20 to 30 seconds.
If we deny the PI there will be no CPU spike..
Is there any troubleshooting or configuration need to done for this issue..but we are getting in all our sites due to this in different cpu process I'd ..
Affected sup like 720 but in core we are not getting that issue with same sup and ios.
Kindly suggest any action plan regarding the high cpu due to the High cpu due to snmp..
Regards,
Arun

How to get higher cpu voltage during load when using "auto" with P67A-GD55?
I have a little question regarding cpu voltage: When i set vcore to "auto" i get a nice low voltage when idle but during load i only get 1.264 max and that is to low.
Is there a setting to increase the voltage during load and still have the cpu vcore set to auto?
Thanks

OK, so you are able to set your CPU voltage manually. You need to consider that the auto voltages will compensate only up to a certain OC level, after which the user usually has to do manual adjustments. This auto compensation differs for each hardware combination. As HU16E suggested, try low VDroop and see if it helps. The other alternative is a BIOS flash, or manual voltage settings.
I tried low vdroop but it didn´t make any difference. But it´s ok, i can set the vcore manually but i was just investigating if i could get the best of both worlds with the powersavings auto vcore offers during idle -
Hi,
Well, I have this strange problem with 6500 and 4215. Everything works just fine, sensor is blocking and no real problem with that.
But, I get high cpu usage on my 6500 device whenever IDS is accessing it for ACL configuration.
I tried to sniff on this and I get this strange output from 6500 device whenever ssh session is established: 6500 is responsing one letter at a time (I mean one letter per packet), so it takes a lot of packets in order to this session to get accomplished.
Here is a log from 4215 :
"evError: eventId=1114377191440638275 severity=error
originator:
hostId: xxx
appName: nac
appInstanceId: 1162
time: 2005/08/17 14:40:14 2005/08/17 16:40:14 Summer
errorMessage: name=errSystemError ERROR: Syntax error from invalid input at device [Cisco] IP [x.x.x.x] state [Active]Text from device:
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
sw-01(config-if)# "
Anyone seen this before.
Just to mention, regular telnet/ssh sessions are not cpu intensive.
Thanks,
SasaThis could be due to very large ACLs and ACEs that you might be having. I wonder if there is a turbo acl ( as in pix) is there in IDS. If so, this will reduce the consumption of resources to a large extent.

High cpu usage when moving application windows
Hello all,
I have two machines with arch installed:
- an eeepc 701 surf/intel gpu(xorg driver) with xfce
- an amd 3800+ X2/nvidia 8860 gt(proprietary driver) with kdemod3(also checked with xfce4)/arch amd64 installed.
I noticed that when i move a window of an application(for example konsole, etc..) too fast i get high cpu usage(30-40 %), when checking with htop.
Is it normal that the X server uses the cpu so much when moving a window??
EDIT: up to now i tested it in a friends windows machine, and it happens exactly the same, so i guess is normal. It seems i need to be informed better about how X works :-)
Last edited by mechmg93 (2008-10-15 08:04:10)today i switced back my desktop system to debian unstable and tried to see what the difference is concerning this problem.
I found out that in kde3 the solution to the "problem" is debians kde default configuration about window behaviour.
Especially the one mentioned below :
In debian this is not ticked and this has as a result zero cpu usage when windows are moved.

High CPU load on SAP DB and App server
Hi ,
I'm running SAP v4.6C on Oracle. Hardware is an IBM SAN. I am getting high CPU load on both production servers and cannot trace the source. Even when I shut down SAP and Oracle the CPU runs at approx 50%. I run process explorer to get more detail and it shows Hardware Interrupts as chewing up the CPU. A reboot gives temporary relief, but start SAP and it goes back up. There is a lot of paging, but that drops down low when SAP is stopped, and CPU stays high. Are there any hardware/OS gurus who could assist with where to start next.
Thanks
GergWhat is the kernel time? Can you make a screenshot and post it somewhere?
Something is strange here:
as far I as know the System Idle Process (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_idle_process">see also here</a>) is not the problem, it indicates that the system has 97% of CPU free.
However, if SAP/DB are stopped and you have 97% idle, it contradicts to your information before. -
I use KDE 4.5 and a NVidia card (8400M G) with the official driver.
Sometimes I get high CPU usage on X (around 50% usage) when using the computer, particularly when viewing PDF with Okular making the scroll a bit sluggish. Is this normal behaviour?
My system is up to date.Try viewing that pdf outside KDE, try the nouveau drivers - this way you can (hopefully) nail down what the problem is. Cairo, poppler, pango - are you using the stock packages or some AUR/modified ones?

High cpu consumption with GRE over IPSEC
Hi all,
After applying a gre over ipsec tunnel on one of our branch office, we get high cpu consumption (average 90%).
Tunnel is applied between Cisco 2851 (C2800NM-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T2, (fc2) and
Cisco CISCO2921/K9 Version 15.0(1)M3.
Config of the tunnet is as follow :
- authentication pre-share
- encryption aes 256
- hash : sha
- transform set : esp-aes esp-sha-hmac mode transport
Routing process is eigrp.
Could anyone please help me on solving this issue?Cool, good start.
Check "show ip traffic" on both sides, it would be interesting to see what's going on.
BTW the CPU usage of top process doesn't add up to 90%, there's a possibility it's traffic rate/pattern + features (IP input and pool manager would suggest that). -
High CPU usage HP2000 Notebook PC
About 3 weeks ago I purchased your HP2000 Notebook PC, model #E0M17UA#ABA. Almost immediately I started getting "High CPU Usage" messages and everything is painfully slow. It does not matter whether I am reading the news, watching a videa or sorting my email, I get the high CPU message. The system is 10 times slower that the HP that I bought last year for my husband and I find if I don't have alot of time to perform a task I just use his. Over the years we have used HP Products almost exclusively because of their reliability and when I had to replace my last laptop there were several in the same price range but it was the HP name that made the decision. Is this fixable? I travel frequently for work and I need a reliable system that I can actually use.
It is very hard to find the true specifications on this system. The actual processor speed is not listed in most of the literature like this:
spec sheet
With a bit more digging it turns out it is a 1.3 ghz processor with 1 meg of L2 cache and dual cores. Basically, it is a very weak computer processor that is not much more powerful than many tablet and cell phone processors these days. It was made to blow out the door vey inexpensively at Wal-Mart. I just had one of these in my hands yesterday and the owner was having the same problems. Increasing the RAM to 8 gigs helped a bit but the thing that made is useable was to remove all the HP add-on packages, remove the McAfee antivirus and install Avast antivirus and lean up the startup sequence so that not so many processes are constantly running in the background. CPU usage dropped from a constant 100% to the 20s and 30s percent during web browsing and made the unit useable at least. It is never going to be a powerhouse, but if you configure it to run lean and mean it is workable for web browsing, office work and even watching DVDs and online video.
Post back if you want to go through step by step how to do this. -
High CPU - SNMP ENGINE process
Based on the stace trace, how do I determine what object is being polled??? (what is causing the high cpu for SNMP ENGINE)
From the “show stack 295” output (SNMP ENGINE)
router>show stack 295
Process 295: SNMP ENGINE
Stack segment 0x68226DC0 - 0x68229CA0
FP: 0x68229BD0, RA: 0x62A0D95C
FP: 0x68229BF8, RA: 0x628276A8
FP: 0x68229C68, RA: 0x629FBE08
FP: 0x68229C80, RA: 0x629FBDEC
ThanksYeah, I backup srkala. Currently we dont have any external tool to decode the stacks.
These stacks needs to be decoded on the source code server for every perticular IOS and hence can't be made external.
For any issue you need to collect and post either to CSC, we can check that, or you can open the TAC case to get it reviewed.
Also, the decode information doesnt reveals much, it further needs processing to which will be out of scope for anyone without some intenal tools help.

Process Snmp (PDU Dispatcher) causes High CPU value
Hello,
I have a Catalyst Switch 6000. Inoticed that after the execution of the job inventory in LMS, and after the snmp queries reached the equipement, the cpu value reached 98-99 % due to the process : PDU DISPATCHER (what’s it ?)
I have also a script running in the switch to observe the differents logs. For exemple, when high cpu is obtained, the message bellow appear :
« %SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR: Packet dropped due to input
« %SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR: Packet dropped due to input
« %SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR: Packet dropped due to input
Could you give me any idea or help ?
Thanks in advance. This msg is normally generated when to many snmp request overrun the buffer allocated for such requests. There are a number of things that can cause this as well as a number of known issues that can be worked around using snmp views. Without reviewing show logging and other information available in a show tech, hard to say what the best method to resolve this. Should probably open a TAC SR to troubleshoot the issue further...

I want exact troubleshooting.
(1) Steps to follow.
(2) Required configuration
(3) Any good suggestions
(4) Any Tool to troubleshoot.
Suggestions are welcomeHello,
NMS is probably not the right community to t/s this. You probably want to move this to Security group (Security > Firewalling).
In the meanwhile, i have some details to share for you to check, though i am not a security/ASA expert.
The Dispatch Unit is a process that continually runs on single-core ASAs (models 5505, 5510, 5520, 5540, 5550). The Dispatch Unit takes packets off of the interface driver and passes them to the ASA SoftNP for further processing; it also performs the reverse process.
To determine if the Dispatch Unit process is utilizing the majority of the CPU time, use the command show cpu usage and show process cpu-usage sorted non-zero
show cpu usage (and show cpu usage detail) will show the usage of the ASA CPU cores:
ASA# show cpu usage
CPU utilization for 5 seconds = 0%; 1 minute: 1%; 5 minutes: 0%
show process cpu-usage sorted non-zero will display a sorted list of processes that are using the CPU usage.
In the example below, the Dispatch Unit process has used 50 percent of the CPU for the last 5 seconds:
ASA# show process cpu-usage sorted non-zero
0x0827e731 0xc85c5bf4 50.5% 50.4% 50.3% Dispatch Unit
0x0888d0dc 0xc85b76b4 2.3% 5.3% 5.5% esw_stats
0x090b0155 0xc859ae40 1.5% 0.4% 0.1% ssh
0x0878d2de 0xc85b22c8 0.1% 0.1% 0.1% ARP Thread
0x088c8ad5 0xc85b1268 0.1% 0.1% 0.1% MFIB
0x08cdd5cc 0xc85b4fd0 0.1% 0.1% 0.1% update_cpu_usage
If Dispatch Unit is listed as a top consumer of CPU usage, then use this document to narrow down what might be causing the Dispatch Unit process to be so active.
Most cases of high CPU utilization occur because the Dispatch Unit process is high. Common causes of high utilization include:
Oversubscription
Routing loops
Host with a high number of connections
Excessive system logs
Unequal traffic distribution
More t/s details can be shared by the ASA members from the community.
HTH
