Getting iCal 3 to work with an LDAP server

I've managed to set up Directory Utility with a third-party LDAP server (part of Communigate Pro) so that Directory will look up people.
However I expected that once I did this, iCal would consult the LDAP server to do autocompletion when adding attendees to events. It doesn't.
I thought maybe I could use Address Book's Directories Group to facilitate adding attendees. Both the LDAP server configured through Mail and the LDAP Directory Service configured through Directory Utility are visible here--but even though I can look people up, I can't drag any of the resulting names into the Attendees list in iCal.
It seems I first have to drag them into a local Group; only then can I drag them into Attendee lists in iCal.
Finally, iCal has a feature called the Address Panel which I thought might make use of an LDAP server configured through Directory Utility, but it hasn't worked for me. The Panel says "Open Directory Lookup" near the top of the window, which suggests it might not be intended to function with any old LDAP implementation.
Any suggestions?
By the way, I have the LDAP server's entry in Directory Utility as RFC 2307 with an empty searchbase for all mappings. However I haven't modified any of the mappings themselves.

iCal 3 looks for certain specific LDAP attributes which are (somewhat) unique to Open Directory.

As there used to be two iChat forums here at Apple Support Communities and the older iChat 2.1 one has disappeared I am not sure how many threads might be available for scrutiny on this matter.
AS I said I don't ever recall someone reporting that they got it to work.
During early version of iChat it was found that the AIM server would accept a login on almost any port.
It became popular to suggest port 443 as this was a well known port known to be open on most routers "out-of-the-box" and likely to be open in campus situations where students may not have any control over what ports were open.
An AIM Login can also do "Direct IMs" for which is switches to port 5190 on the UDP Protocol.
At this point the chat is peer to peer.
It does this if you send a pic in the Chat or send a file.
It uses port 5190 for this no matter what is used for the Login.

Does Mail (3.6) work with MS Exchange Server 2003?

I'm struggling to get Mail to work with an exchange server.
Apparently, from the company's FAQs, we can hook up an iPhone, but alas not Mail.
With the iPhone directions, they talk about a "domain" field, which doesn't show up in Mail.
Any tips or clues would be appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure why this works now, but it does. Yay!
My problem evolved such that I, when I sent out through a different outgoing server, a recipient would see the address of the outgoing address, e.g. if I was using the gmail servers it would look like [email protected], and not the [email protected]
So as a work around I tested sending out messages with my [email protected] address in the Reply To field. That works.
Strangely, a Sent mailbox with for my [email protected] has appeared. Even messages that I've sent out with nothing in the Reply To field indicate that they've come from my [email protected] address.
Keys to making it work:
• Set up the exchange address as an IMAP account (not an exchange account)
• Use the above referenced source forge tool
• Partner with the company's IT people for whatever assistance they can offer
• Use a Reply To field with the exchange, if required

Anyone tried to get Jabber to work with Domino for contact search

I have a customer who has recently upgraded to CUCM 8.6.2.22900-9 and Presence 8.6.4.11900-1 fom CUCM 6.x and Presence 6.x. When they were at 6.x they were able to integrate CUPC contact search with Domino server. I realize this was not supported, but they got it to work. Now they want to attempt to get Jabber to work with Domino. Again I realize that is not a supported LDAP for Jabber, but I was wondering if anyone has perhaps tried this and what their experience was.

IPhone 2.0 doesn't work with my exchange server

My tech support guys have been working on my iPhone for an entire day and couldn't get it to work with the server. They are telling me that the phone isn't compatible with the exchange server and it would require an entire overhaul of our server and reconfiguration to get it to work. I thought the new iPhone was supposed to be so easy to use. I am so ready to ditch my blackberry and so very disappointed that I can't get the iPhone to work with our server. Macintosh support was completely useless to help figure out this problem- as they said they don't offer support to third party software- yet this phone is supposed to work with the Microsoft Exchange Server?! Actually Blackberry has two options, one where they pull from your server and then push it to your phone as described. Alternatively you can install their software on your server to relay. Both require additional services, software and fees. Instead the iPhone uses the ActiveSync included in the Exchange server, which is the same protocol used to communicate with Windows Mobile based devices.

Essentially Apple does not configure Microsoft Exchange for your admins. We do provide a list of what versions of ActiveSync and which ActiveSync features we support. However, ActiveSync is part of the Microsoft Exchange server maintained and configured by your Exchange server admins.

It should be noted that I was previously in those Windows Beta's and I am also a member of both Microsoft Technet (Retail Subscription), and all 3 Apple Developer Programs (IOS, Mac and Safari), which is the reason why I am running Microsoft Windows 8 Beta 1 on 2 of my 3 Dell's (the oldest one has Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Microsoft Office 2003 on it, which is the PC that I am using the 551L on), and the Mid Year 2010 Apple Mac Mini has Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Server Edition on it (something that I am technically am NOT supposed to be talking about here due to my NDA so this will be the last time I mention it here (as you can see I am known for being the type of Computer Nerd that loves Alpha and Beta Testing)! :-)

Trying to get iCal to sync with iCloud on my mac

Hi there, I have a 2009 Macbook Pro running Yosemite. Since upgrading to mavericks, and subsequently Yosemite, I cannot get iCal to sync with the iCloud. All my calenders were sucked onto the cloud, and I can access them via my Iphone 5s and online, but whenever I try to tick the box in iCal to sync with my iCloud account, it crashes iCal.
When I was on Snow leopard, and had a Nokia phone, I used a terminal command to sync my iCal through dropbox, which worked fine, but has obviously migrated with my user account, as with a clean install of Yosemite iCal works fine, until I use Migration assistant to install my User profile.
Is there anyway to reset just iCal without a clean install off the OS?

I too was a mobileme user and have just migrated to iCloud on mackbook pro w/OS 10.7.4. Transition caused my sent mailboxes to rearrange themselves so that I have no comprehensive 'sent' mailbox as I did previously and the view on both incoming and outgoing mailboxes keeps rearranging itself no matter how many times I set preferences. One result is that search function no longer works. Is anyone else having problems like this? All was fine for a week after transition but after having an evening when my password was repeatedly rejected I had to log in and out of iCloud (as directed by tech support) and w/in an hour or so the mailbox problem began.

Hi,
in my case, I am trying to configure the OBPM directory using ALUI and its native LDAP service.
Now, I found that the first name and the last name in BPM are retrieved from the ALUI display name : provided we enter the display name in the format %first name% + %last name% we get them into BPM. But the display name is not always in this format...
In addition, it's the portal telephone number information which is retrieved into BPM Telephone and Fax numbers.
And, the email adress remains blank
I have installed the latest patch for OBPM (Version: 10.3.1.0.0 Build: #97172)
Would you have any documentation about creating a Profile Web Service in ALUI and specifying which LDAP attributes to map to which ALUI properties in the Profile Source ?

Based on what you've posted, your computer does not have the right tuner. You need a QAM tuner to record locals from FiOS, or a CableCard tuner to record all local and cable channels from FiOS.

I have a Power Mac G4 and i am trying to get it to work with my LCD Monitor/TV. The connection on the computer is DVI and the connection on the Monitor is DVI. The Monitor says in the manual to hook up computers using the DVI connection. When I connect the too the monitor says there is no video input. I tried changing the settings on the monitor from PC mode to DVI mode and nothing. I have also tried changing the display on the computer to a couple of different settings and nothing. Please Help?

I need help with ISIGHT! I can't get it to work with MSN!

My issue is this... I have AIM/AOL and I am able to see myself on webcam.. however noone else can unless they HAVE a webcam... My first question is- "DO you have to have a WEBCAM on both ends for both people to see you?" Does the person I am chatting with HAVE to have a webcam to see me? If so WHY? They should atleast be able to see ME if I want them to... Also if they are using windows for PC platform... can they use a pc webcam and still connect with me through my isight although I am on a mac?
My second major ISSUE is.. WHY is the isight only compatible with AOL/AIM? I was told when I bought this it would be compatible with MSN Messenger for windows AND the MAC version... I have both and the isight does not show up on it... CAN ISIGHT be connected to msn messenger for MAC??? PLEASE help me!
I called APPLE tech support and they couldn't even help me! They told me to call Microsoft! Anyhow- one guy did say he was able to get his ISIGHT working with the MSN messenger for MAC platform.. do you have ANY idea how to do that?? The thing is ALL my freinds are on PC's and have MSN messenger..
ALSO- someone on mac rumors told me to look for a guy names RALPH! Said you know A LOT about mac and pc compatibility! PLEASE HELP
Bottom line - I want to use isight with msn so my msn pc friends can share webcam... I also have virtual pc software... is it easier to just get a pc webcam and do it through there? ( i tried that and it didn't work either) i need major TECH SUPPORT!

Microsoft's Messenger for Mac (MSN) does not support webcams at all.
I have found the best alternative to MSN to be aMSN with macam for the webcam driver (it is a cheap usb webcam). Both are free open source projects. I guess if you use an iSight you will not need macam.

The speed is substantially faster and it is far more stable than Mercury in my experience.
The only difficulty is the camera is often shown as being "in use by another application". To counter this I start macam, then plug in the camera (or unplug and plug back in). Then I start aMSN.

The latest Apple driver support begins with the MP 171.
Here is Ricoh's official driver download page specifically for the Afico MP 161. Note that new drivers for this device were released on Aug 2, and include Lion and Mountain Lion.

1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
7. Check for third-party software conflicts.
