Getting iMovie 06 to work with Snow Leopard...3 steps

I fixed the problem by 1)downloading and running the latest version of Onyx and having it fix permissions. 2) I then deleted the iMovie preference file.
But really, the thing that it all seems to depend on is Ken Burns. 3)I imported all my photos without Ken Burns, and had the problem of photos not being seen in the viewer. I then selected them all and applied a ken burns effect, clicked apply and waited. From then on it was the old iMovie...I could see all the photos when the movie played.
Not sure permissions and preferences made that much of a difference, but it seems that applying Ken burns is necessary. And it is like having an old friend back. I like iMovie HD. Simple....like me.
Hugh

iMovie HD works fine for most people. But I invite folks to drop in a few photos and try using it...getting them to line up with audio, getting them to show correctly in the viewer.
All that worked fine for me after installing Snow Leopard. I think your post is good even if it only helps a one user. Maybe others will report in that it helped them.
Now if Apple would just put a drop down timeline option in iMovie 09...
With most using iMovie 06, there is little motivation to improve iMovie 09.
I suspect there are thousands of us out there with the latest iMac, the latest iLife, but who use iMovie HD.
Maybe millions? Most people that I know with iLife 09 are using iMovie 06 with iDVD 09.

  • Can't get Canon MX330 to work with Snow Leopard

    Running 10.6.2 on a MacBook.
Downloaded the "Snow Leopard" driver from Apple's support site and installed it three times. Amazingly or bizarrely, it was not installed in Applications. A search through the Finder and Spotlight both failed to find the installed Canon applications, the Solution Menu and MP Navigator.
Instead, when I open the old application that I'm either reinstalling or updating*, I get the following message, that I have the correct model, to wit, a Canon MX330 series (I do), that the driver's installed (should be), that it's connected to the Mac and power is on (it is both), and that I "[r]econnect the USB cable when connected with USB". No idea exactly what that means but the USB cable is connected at both ends (does that matter?). (*I hedge on that because when the G5 "died" last fall, I had to reinstall the Canon apps on the laptop which is the computer in question. Note that the problem I indicated above started after upgrading to 10.6, hence the download of the Snow Leopard drivers from Apple.)

In one of those mysteries.... Problem essentially solved.
In the old days, with my now-fried G5 (running 10.5.x), I was able to scan and open the necessary Canon application just by putting whatever into the scanner and hitting various buttons on the scanner. That never worked with the MacBook (also 10.5.x). With the MB, had to work through a Canon application, Solution Menu. That is what did not work under 10.6.x.
Following, indirectly, the instructions for resetting the printers in System Prefs, I found a tab for Scan and using that, all is at least as good as working through the Canon applications. On one hand, there's a slight counter-intuitiveness -- essentially I'll be scanning through System Prefs instead of a dedicated application and of course the interface is a lot different (and elegant in its way of course) but it hasn't proven to be buggy, flaky and occasionally unstable as was Canon's application.
So: Wish it was as easy as it was with the G5, but it's better than it was.
    Thanks!

  • HP LaserJet P1005 not working with Snow Leopard

Has anyone managed to get this printer to work with Snow Leopard 10.6? I have installed the latest drivers* from the HP website which BTW do not say they support 10.6 , see http://is.gd/2DfcE
*Not sure exactly what the version number of the drivers is. The website says they are version 1.0.7, but when installed they show version 1.0.6
I either get nothing coming out of the printer or an error "PrintJobMgr quit unexpectedly - This report will be sent to Apple automatically".

    From this web page:
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can use if there is an issue:
Ensure the printer is connected, has power, has ink / toner, paper, and no alerts on its built-in display.
Network based printers should be on the same subnet; you shouldn't have to worry about this if your printer is on your home network.
Use Software Update for the latest available updates.
Delete the affected printer from Printer & Fax System Preferences, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, reset printing system as described below, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, contact the printer vendor and/or visit their website for printer software and support.

  • How can I get an HP Deskjet 882C to work with Snow Leopard?

Is there a way to get our HP Deskjet 882C to work with Snow Leopard?  This printer is a workhorse, and even though it is so old, our budget and common sense say not to get rid of it.

Install the HPIJS package. This is an open source set of drivers for older printers.  HP dropped support for a whole lot of printers when Snow Leopard was developed.  These drivers fill the gap.
You will need to install three components - Ghostscript, Foomatic RIP and the hpijs package.  They are all on the HPIJS web page.  Once installed, restart your Mac, connect your printer.  You will probably need to go into System Preferences > Print & Fax to select the printer and set it as your default printer.  After that it works great.  And it also works on Lion.

  • My XP printer no longer works with snow leopard over the network

My XP networked printer (Samsung 4200) no longer works with snow leopard after Mac update.  Printer hooked up to XP and can access it through network.
When I print it requests that I to authenticate the printer with a user name and password but it's not password protected. I don't have a password, but I tried all the usuals anyways.
It worked fine a couple days ago, and I've tried everything since.  I've reset my printers, turned off both computers.  Plugged the printer directly into the Mac - didn't work at first but downloaded a new driver Splix - 2 (Samsung doesn't make an OS X driver for this printer) and got it working.  Reinstalled Bonjour on the PC, which can't even see a printer now.  Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    THanks in advance.

Connecting from a Mac to Windows is password protected. If you tried to connect to a shared folder on Windows you would also be prompted to enter your Windows credentials. So when you do print next time, enter your Windows user details and password. If XP has no password then set one - it is bad practise to have a Windows computer without a password. And updates to Mac OS X expect you to have one set in the Windows computer.
If for some reason you don't want to set a password in XP then enable the Guest account and you can use this on the Mac when you get the prompt (either select Guest or type it in).

What version of iLife works with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and where can I buy it?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install the latest version, iLife '11. It's available at the Mac App Store, but the versions available there aren't compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, so you have to get iLife '11 on a DVD at eBay or Amazon > http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES
After installing it, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version for Snow Leopard

  • M-Audio MIDISPORT UNO USB Not Working With Snow Leopard

My Snow Leopard installation worked fine except until I plugged in my MacBook to my Casio Privia with the M=Audio MIDISPORT UNO USB cable to run GarageBand. I'm getting a MIDI error which states it can't work with the latest operating system. It doesn't surprise me though for all the software and hardware driver updates that have to catch up to such a new OSX 10.6. I went to the M-Audio site to download the latest driver, but the drivers only were compatible with OSX10.5.8.
This is an alert at the site
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Support Coming Soon
Avid/M-Audio working closely with Apple to offer support for OS X 10.6
Avid/M-Audio is pleased to hear that Apple has released Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. We’ve been working closely with Apple to bring Snow Leopard support to the M-Audio® product line, as well as the Pro Tools® product line and extended product families. We ask that all existing Mac users please wait to upgrade until we officially announce Snow Leopard support. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
This is a bit of a concern, because I need to get GarageBand running again with the MIDI hook ups. Is there a work around anyone knows about to get MIDI working with Snow Leopard.
    Thanks Steve

I ran into a similar problem. I discovered one thing which may help you out though. It works OK with my Yamaha P200 keyboard but it does not work with my Yamaha NP30 keyboard. I looked at the MIDI stream and the only difference seems to be that the NP30 sends a continuous stream of MIDI clock, whereas the P200 does not. My theory is that this clock stream is somehow confusing the driver. I can't seem to disable the MIDI clock on my NP30 but if your Privia has the ability to disable MIDI clock, then it may be worth a try as it will probably fix the problem until they come out with the proper drivers.

  • How to make Canon printers work with Snow Leopard

Can anyone explain simple language (I'm not technical which is why I chose Apple) how I can get my Canon MP 980 printer/scanner to work with Snow Leopard.
Everything used to work perfectly and I'm beginning to regret the upgrade to Snow Leopard (what other suprises are waiting for me when I'm in a hurry?).
I have other Canon printers in various locations (MP 600, MP 530 and iP90). Will I have similar problems with all of them and, if so, is there a simple way to resolve the issues across the board?
I checked the Canon web-site but was totally confused
    Any help truly appreciated.

According to Apples website; they should work. Please see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#canon
The driver version should be: 10.26.1.0 (or greater)
The above article was modified in December 15th 2009
If after installing the most-up-to-date driver, via the link provided, the issue persists, reset the printing system.
    How-to reset the printing system:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/14001.html
Then install the printing driver supplied by Canon on Apples website here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/CanonPrinter_Drivers_for_Mac_OS_X_v106
If that still does not work, reset the printing system again. Now go to Canon's website and get the driver(s) for mac there.

There is the possibility the drivers on canon's website could be newer than apples. The version numbers, size of file to download, and release date all appear to be quite different.
On *apples website*, the driver info stats:
    * Version: 2.2
    * Post Date: November 16, 2009
    * Download ID: DL899
    * File Size: 274.59MB

+I do not own the same printer+, however I would suggest installing some of or all of the following 3 drivers.
    If your printing via USB:
MP980 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.26.2.0 (Mac OS X 10.5/10.6)
If your printing via a Networked Printer:
MP980 series MP Driver Ver.1.0 for Network (Mac OS X 10.6)
If your going to use the scanner:
MP980 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.8.2 (Mac OS X 10.3/10.4/10.5/10.6)
If you scroll down further, past the 'drivers', that same website from Canon also includes step-by-step guides/manuals for setting up the printer/scanner, both via USB & WiFi.
If the steps above did not resolve the issue, please respond back.
    Good Luck!

According to Roaring Apps, there is a version of Protools compatible with Lion.  But you may need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to buy either Lion or ML on MAS.   It looks like you need to get up-to-date with your OS and the apps too.

  • Does LiveType work with Snow Leopard?

I recently updated to Snow Leopard and the latest Final Cut Studio. When I went to open LiveType, I got the following message:
    LiveType quit unexpectedly.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
Does LiveType work with Snow Leopard? Do I trash my preferences or reinstall the program from my original version of Final Cut Studio?
    Any ideas?

Am I the only one who feels like that is ridiculous? Apple provides the possibility to upgrade to the new Final Cut Studio from the original version of Final Cut Studio, but in so doing, disables a program that was working fine before the upgrade, and doesn't provide any avenue to fix the problem? Is that really the way things work in the world of Apple computing? Does that compute?
I hope that this is not right...
For some reason this reminds me of Thoreau...
    "Simplify, simplify."
This seems to be the antithesis of "Think Different" doesn't it?
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
But in Apple's world, if you missed update number two then that's all you're going to get is an empty canvas, because the program used to put print on your canvas is no longer available. And if you go looking for another option, like for instance if you take their slogan literally:
    They’re not fond of rules.
Then what is Apple going to do about it? I think if you read the news it's pretty obvious what Apple's going to do about it.
Is it any wonder that they dismissed their slogan, because it did not fit in with their business plan.
    Any comments?

  • With the Lion, the copy and paste commands don't work.  So if you choose a photo and right click Copy, this photo can't be pasted in another event.  This used to work with Snow Leopard.

The copy and paste functions in iPhoto used to work in Snow Leopard, but not with the Lion.  How do I copy and paste photos from one event to another?  What I don't understand is that it used to work with Snow Leopard, and now that the OS has been upgraded to Lion, it doesn't?

Instead of copy and paste drag the photo to the new event. Or flag it and use the add flagged photos to selected event command
