Getting iMovie to re-render a clip

I ran into a strange situation where iMovie appears to have screwed up and used the wrong photo to render numerous clips. In the timeline, however, the affected clips show the correct name of the photos, so iMovie knows which photos it should have used. Is there a way to get iMovie to render those clips again using the right photo this time?

You should trash iMovie's preference file and try again with the photos.
With iMovie closed, go to your Home folder(YourUserName)/Library/references/com.apple.imovie.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. Don't worry. iMovie will create a new fresh one when you relaunch it.
Reopen iMovie.
See if the photos render properly now.
Post back if this does not help.
Also, be sure you have enough free space on your computer's drive for iMovie to work...usually need at least 15-20 GB.

  • How do I get iMovie to stop shortening my clips...

I clicked on something accidentally that is causing my clips to shorten and I don't know how to undo it. Help please!! It took a 3 minute music video down to 2:11 and I had to go back through and try to lengthen the correct clips to get it back to where it was originally. I am now working on a new video and it is doing the same thing. I don't know what I did wrong, so I don't know how to fix it!

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • I only get audio when i render a clip In fianl cut

Is it possible that a video mp4 need sto be converted to another format?
also is'nt there a way to view your clips on the time line without rendering???

Yes, convert the clip to either DV or Apple Intermediate Codec.
Make sure the converted clips match the properties on an FCE Easy Setup.
We would need to know the properties of the existing clips to advise further.

You can use some third party software to copy the music from your old iPod back to computer first, and then import the music into iTunes and re-sync them to yournew iPod. Here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

With the 10.0.3 update, you can now rotate clips that are in Events.

Everything in your project will be exported when you use the share menu.
If you want to export only half, I suggest that you
    1) Select the project in the Project Library.
    2) Click FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT
    3) Give the duplicate a name, like Project A snippet.
    4) Open the duplicate project in the Project editor and delete the segments that you do not need.
    5) Then Share.
You mentioned surrounding a portion of the clip you were editing in Yellow. Once you do this, you should right-click and then select either DELETE SELECTION, TRIM TO SELECTION, or one of the other options available. That is a key tool in editing.
You mentioned MPEG Streamclip. I agree that MPEG Streamclip is a great tool.

  • How can I get Imovie to recognize clips from my Camcorder

I have a panasonic HDC-TM700 camcorder I recorded in AVCHD mode and Imovie won't recognize the clips.
Does anyone have any tips for converting the clips into a readible format?

It was Imovie11. VoltaicHD is working so far. Thanks Mate!
It seems funny that camcorder companies & Apple don't rectify these problems faster. The whole point in recording footage is to make movies, right?

Hi jt - Alex was actually referring to video clips in iPhoto not appearing in the item "iPhoto Videos" in the Events Library in iMovie - thanks for your post though (the 2 words are very similar).

  • I can't get imovie to open after trying to shift the image to my TV by clicking fn F3.  If I hold the mouse on the imovie icon for a few seconds the imovie window opens but if I click anywhere on the window it disappears

I can't get imovie to open after trying to shift the image from my macbook pro to the tv screen like I have done many times before.  If I double click on the imovie icon, imovie doesn't open, but the strip across the top shows iMovie, file, edit , clip, view, text share window help tabs across the top.  The iMovie window will appear if I click on the iMovie icon on the dock for a few seconds, or if I do control F3 at the same time, but when I click on the window it disappears.  When I hover the mouse over the iMovie window that appears the window has a blue border around it.  when I move the mouse outside the iMovie window the blue border goes away.  If I sweep 4 fingers from the top of the screen down, the screen dims a little but the iMovie window doesn't appear. If I click play under the view tab I can hear audio, but still no iMovie window.  It's as if the window is being blocked by the desk top somehow.

Force Quit it from the Apple menu.

  • How can I get iMovie to recognize the external camera?

iMAC running OSX 10.6.8 recognizes external HD Camera hardware, but iMovie fails to recognize the device.  I can copy files "manually" using Finder, but cannot import them directly into iMovie.  How can I get iMovie to recognize the camera?  I have already re-booted all devices and tried multiple USB ports.  In all cases the OS recognizes the camera, but iMovie does not.

OK This camcorder is a fine camcorder. I have an earlier model of a similar camcorder from Panasonic. However, this newer model has one problem. It is not compatible with iMovie if you shoot at the highest quality mode, (which is 60P or 50P - which might be called 28MBPS mode). If you shoot 30P or 30i (even 60i) it will import to iMovie. Also, iMovie can handle 1280x720P60 and P50.
It will definitely work on iMovie 11. It should probably work on iMovie 09. I doubt this camera will be recognized at all on iMovie 08, but it is worth a try. To see which iMovie you have, click iMovie/About and check the version. 9.04 would be iMovie 11. (9.08 is the current version, but it will not run on OSX 10.6.8). 8.06 would be iMovie 09. 7.1.4 would be iMovie 08.
OK So how to work around this limitation?
    1) If you have Final Cut Pro X ($300) or can justify buying it, it will import 60P and 50P from this camera. However, if this seems a little pricey to you, keep reading.
    2) If you set your camera to record in 1080P30 and shoot a short clip, then iMovie should see the camera. Then I would suggest using iMovie import screen to create a CAMERA ARCHIVE of your camera. This will copy to your Mac the entire contents of the video files on your camera. You will need them later. I am assuming you have some valuable footage on the camera that you would like to have.
    3) Going forward, the simplest thing is to shoot in 1920x1080P30 and use iMovie normally. The biggest advantage of P60 or P50 is when you need really high quality slow motion effects. In other words, after you edit your movie, everything is converted to P30 or P25 anyway.
    4) If you want to retrieve the 1080P50 or 1080P60 clips that you have shot, then there are a couple of apps you can buy to convert them to a form that iMovie can edit. Two such apps are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. There are also various free apps, but I cannot vouch for them. Do a search on google and you may find some that work.

  • How to get iMovie HD

How can I get iMovie HD?? I have iMovie 09 and 11 but I would like to get iMovie HD for the special effects.

If I have to pay more for old versions I might as well buy final cut pro.
There's a bit of a learning curve, but that certainly is an option.
Shouldn't they be upgrading not downgrading??
Not necessarily. Your comment about Final Cut really gets to the point. Further development of iMovie HD was just pushing it closer and closer to Final Cut Express and the fact is that most people are not editing theatrical movies or hour long television dramas.
The average person has a bunch of video clips in much the same way as they might have a bunch of photographs. Baby's first steps, the retirement party, the day at the beach - that kind of thing and there just little snippets shot at whim without a plan or script.
It's much easier to sort through the many disparate little clips with iMovie '11 than with iMovie HD 6.
I also venture to guess that many more people are using iMovie '11 than ever used iMovie HD 6.

  • How to get iMovie 11 back?

Hello! I just got a mac about 2 weeks ago or so, and one of the main things I wanted was iMovie. I was so excited to get iMovie because I want to work in the video industry. (you know edit, etc.). My mac is a refurbished mac, so it already updated to everything, iMovie is at iMovie 13. This is my first Mac, I have never used iMovie, and with the 13 it is terrible. I tried recording my screen and when I uploaded it to iMovie it gave the video clip this terrible red tint. So I was thinking I could switch back to an older iMovie. Anybody know how to do that? I have checck folders and there is nothing really.
    Please help!
    Thank you!
