Getting into SAP Basis Administration

Hi,
I am interested in getting into SAP BASIS Administration. I am currently working as a Windows System Administrator and have been in the IT industry for over 10yrs and looking for a change somewhat...i have very little programming experience, just some scripting here and there. How difficult is it to get into this area? I live in the U.S. Any companies willing to hire someone for entry level BASIS position or mentor? Thanks.

Hi Zylan,
You can refer the below SAP website for authorized training centres in your country.
https://training.sap.com  (Visit 'Training locations')
And for details about BASIS, you can refer the below post (especially refer reply from Kiran Kumar).
http://scn.sap.com/thread/3184501
As I had said earlier, if you wish to start without training then you need to be part of an organisation where SAP is implemented.

Ravi

  • SAP BASIS - Can System Admin experience (Non-SAP) transfer into SAP Basis?

Greetings everyone, I hope you are well this weekend.
I've heard how great SAP careers are for the dedicated and I'm doing my research to find out if an SAP career is viable and if so which is a good entry point. I've read a book by John Von Aspen and in his book he suggests starting out in a customer service rep position for an SAP company as an end user to use as an entry point, but for my background is there another way?
I'm a computer science graduate of DeVry in Atlanta with Technical Support experience and I'm currently working in an IT customer service position. My career has only begun and I'm in the process of mapping out the best route to start in SAP. I'm looking into BASIS as a starting point out of all the functional modules and technical roles available but I am open to all areas. If the next point in my career map were a System Administration role, and if I were to have a few years experience in that role, could I transfer the skills gained into an SAP BASIS administrator? Between now and then I would have done much self study from books and any online courses I could afford. However would I still be short of what a hiring manager is looking for if I don't have an direct experience with SAP Basis?
If such a path would not be viable, what would be the next best step to take coming from Tech/Customer Support?
    Thank you,
    Sabir

    Hi Sabir
I have not read his book so cannot comment too much on that. However, I did a quick search and saw his background is CRM. Perhaps his recommended career path was an example based on his background?
It sounds like you are a planner which is a good trait to have if you are determined to switch over. What sort of technical support are are you doing? If you are a recent graduate you might be able to look to apply to graduate programs in some consultancies (I won't mention names but if you google SAP consultancy graduate position you will find a heap of names).
As far as getting across to Basis the sort of research you could do is look at the SCN communities for System Administration and see they times of themes of the questions. To transition from general system administration to SAP you could look at skilling up with Databases (e.g. Oracle), Operating Systems, Networks, etc. These skills will compliment the Basis skill set but also protect your investment should a SAP job not work out - you still have skills to be valued elsewhere.
In relation to training and education, you want might to research about the SAP Learning Hub. If you are good at self-teaching and learning online this would be a good way for you to invest in training and go at your own pace and keep your cost down. There is a free discovery edition for you to see what the course content it like but it does not give you much of the system administration component.
I would hold off going for any certification (cost) unless until you some experience (unless ofcourse, it becomes a requirement for the job).
The final bit for getting into SAP is investigate the companies that use SAP. Keep looking out for job opportunities to join one of them and then find a way to move into the SAP system administration area.
Good luck with it all and if you have any specific question let us know
    Cheers

  • Getting into SAP

    Hi All,
This is Tanveer Ahmed, I am working on Mainframes technology from past 4 years into Healthcare domain, I am interested to get into SAP technology, Please suggest how can i make use of my domain knowledge in SAP industry. Also suggest me the SAP module which drives my domain knowledge further.

    Tanveer,
Seeing your work experience it seems that you are a Software Engg by qualification and have worked in the developments arena. If this is correct I would rather suggest you to look for technical positions in SAP(ABAPer) which is a SAP developer position.
Else you can have a look on the Basis option also which is for system maintenance people. The last option is a functional consulatnt but this will need a background of functional experience in the actual  functions of business like Sales, Finance, HR etc.
If you have a good domain knowledge of Healthcare industry you may also explore an option of domain expert in the same arean. These days the concept of domain expert is also enticing.
    Hope this helps.
    Rgds

  • What are the sap basis administrator tasks for SAP CRM 7.0

    Hello Guys,
I am an SAP BASIS administrator. I have never worked on any CRM system.
Now a days people in market talk much about wheather you have worked on CRM.
I have  no idea how CRM basis administration is different from the basis administartion of other products based on netweaver.
I would appreciate if someone throw some light on "SAP basis administration of CRM system".
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
Some excellent documentations are available in:- https://websmp205.sap-ag.de/crm-inst (search for the operation guide pdfs, if required you can also check inst/upg docs). User your S user id/password to login.
From my experience, in practical field most of the issues you will face with qRFC/BDoc message flow handling and JAVA stack administration. Stress on these two areas and go through the guides, CRM admin won't be a major issue.
Once you go through the basic operation guides and start working on the system then you will come to know there exists many CRM specific trx(SMW02,SMWP..etc) codes and CRM related tables(CRMPAROLTP,CRMRFCPAR.. etc),bgd jobs/reports - which you have to take care at times.
    Thanks

  • ABAP or SAP Basis Administration

    Hello,
i want to learn SAP. As modul i don't know, which one is better? (ABAP with Netweaver or SAP Basis Administration.)
Which one do you find better and why?
i would be appreciated, if you would inform me.
    Best regards,

I recommend you to go for SAP Basis , Which is less stressful than ABAP programming with OOPS concept
    What an unfounded statement.
Which one do you find more stressful?
    Which one earns more Money?
People don't join a career to avoid stress or to make money out of it (those are just consecuenses). You should consider your options based on your talent, your experience, your ability  to learn.
    Regards
    Juan

I dont have any experience in SAP, but want to learn and get into SAP career.....how do I begin please suggest

    vapin,
Search for online training institutes on the net. Each of these gives a demo. By attending the demo make a selection of the institute.
On Youtube too, there are lots of SD training videos. Check those.
    TW
Added: A good trainer will have the following:
1 - give business examples, to explain functionalities
e.g. intercompany sale process: the process from his experience, what are the key benefits to business etc.
IMP: Functional consultant is first about understanding the business process and second about configuration etc. in SAP
    2 - patience
he should not be reluctant to answer your questions properly
he should sense how you are understanding the concepts, and take necessary actions
    3 - mentor
what should be your next steps - how to prepare SD, how to prepare your resume, how to prepare for interviews etc. etc.

    Hi BI Experts,
I am planning to get into SAP BI , currently workig on SAP ABAP from past 3.5 years. So please guide me how to get into.
    Regards,

  • Newbie question - Is it worth getting into SAP ?

Seeing as this is still the only forum where a "Post New Thread" button is locatable, here's my opening question.
I understand it takes study, certification and some years of experience to become a sought-after commodity in SAP.
As an underpaid (never above $A40K) and under-employed IT worker over the past ten years, I've noticed that every time a SAP job is advertised, the salary is quite impressive. The most recent position, for a SAP Consultant, offered $A120K.
To those of you who have been SAPping for a few years :
Are you and your skills in demand in the job marketplace ?
Do you receive reasonable or high pay ?
What combination of study and experience (and connections ?) did it take to reach your current position ?
For someone with broad IT experience, do you consider SAP worth getting into and, if so, by what route do you recommend entry ?
    That'll do for a start

    hi andrew,
Are you and your skills in demand in the job marketplace ?
Yes, SAP is hot these days, and will be for some years to come.
Do you receive reasonable or high pay ?
When compared to other fields and technical domains, the answer is yes.
What combination of study and experience (and connections ?) did it take to reach your current position ?
You need to have reasonable amount of IT exposure (which you have....!!!!) and a working expeirence in the functional domain is a must to rise. Technical expertise would boost your career great guns. Though after 2- 4 years in SAP , it is preferable to be a functional guy.
For someone with broad IT experience, do you consider SAP worth getting into and, if so, by what route do you recommend entry ?
Yes, it depends upon your type of IT experience. IF you have a good functional experience (say in domains like manufacturing, sales, or finance) pick up  a functional module study hard go for certification, and you are there in SAP world.
With technical expertise you  need to have good ABAP knowledge, and with netweaver these days JAVA would also do, but with SAP having abap knowledge always helps.
Same route here, study hard and go for certification and gian hands on experience.....and you are there to rock...!!!!
Hope this answers your questions, Do reward

  • HI Guys, ABT getting into SAP SD

    Hi Guys,
I am Amod ,Automobile Engg. from India  but now in Australia from 2 yrs.in same field .
I am preparing for my sap Sd (order fulfilment1&2) certification.I have exp. of 10 yrs. in Auto industry and used Sap for day to day functions (limited ).Worked on various position such as Service engg.,Assst. Manager .
Hopefully I will get my certificate in next month.
I really appriciate if somebody guide/advice me  for my problem that ,every day i go thru all sap ads. for job , but each & every job requires exp. which i dont have.
I am confused abt starting my career in sap and worried too.
If anybody of u guide me ,i `d be greatful
    thanks
    Amod

    Hi Amod
Let me tell my experience that before joining in SAP neither exposer nor ever seen any of the transaction screens how it looks. Inspite of that, strong desire forced me to change the line with having put in more than 15 years of Functional experience. Did my certification and got job immediately. (getting job will certainly go with requirements of organisations).
As functional consultant more confortable and be able understand better busniess processes of organisations thus able to provide suitable solutions and work around solutions in SAP. This is all happend beacuse of experience what I have gained prior to SAP.
I am sure, if ur confident enough and able convert your domain experience, certainly SAP Functional consultant postion is the best option.
I wish you all the best in ur new endeavors.
    Regards
    Sudhakar

  • How to get into SAP market as a fresher

    Hi all,
Myself Prantik Guha. I am B.Tech (CSE) guy with 4yrs. of experience in testing. I have some knowledge of sales and distribution and right now I am doing training in SAP SD module. So my query is that whether I can be able to get a break through in SAP market with my background and would i treated as a fresher in SAP market.
    Thanks All,
    Prantik Guha

    Hi Prantik,
As per my opinion,  Every SAP  modules need some domain knowledge in that module.
without domain knowledge SAP market  treets as a Fresher .
you can try  any business based  organization like core industry to get domain knowledge in SAP-SD.
then easily you can get break in IT service industry.
All the best for your future in SAP.
    Regards,
    Prasenjit

  • Help in getting into SAP HCM

    Hi All,
I am very new to this community. I was earlier working as a SAP ABAP HR consultant. 6 months Back I did my certification in SAP HCM ECC 6.0 and started working as a techno functional consultant. To explore my self in this new dimension I need guidance in HR functional ground. I would request here to provide me your valuable suggestions how to approach. Also I request all of you to please share with me relevant documents/videos, if any. Materials (i am having certification materials) relevant to any SAP HCM sub modules would be of great help though I am currently working in payroll. my personal email id is deleted
    Thanks & Regards,
    Chandra

You know, asking for documentation and material isn't permitted on these forums.  It's probably a good idea to check out the rules before beginning any new project.
    what do you think?

    vapin,
Search for online training institutes on the net.
    3 - mentor
what should be your next steps - how to prepare SD, how to prepare your resume, how to prepare for interviews etc. etc.
