Getting iPhoto comments to iWeb (iLife 08)

I have a tediously-commented set of photos I made in whatever version of iPhoto was current in 2003. I want to publish them with iWeb to a photo page, but none of the comments carry over, instead I get photo captions like "IMG_0124" when what I really want is the comment text e.g. "San Giovanni in Laterano" (pics from a trip to Rome with a guide friend so every image has an accurate caption) used as a caption. Of course, re-entering all of those comments/captions is an enormous pain in the butt.
The iWeb pages are really nice, but why don't the comments carry over when I export from iPhoto to iWeb?

Here's how you can do what you want.
1 - get the Applescript that's discussed at this page. Be sure to read all of the comments to find the one error that's in the script. It's easy to correct.
2 - select the photos in the album that you want to add to the photo page and run the Applescript.
3 - create a new photo page and drag that iPhoto album from the Media/Photos page into the iWeb photo page. You will now have the comments under each photo.
4 - when you want to return the titles of the photos back to the original file names use the Photos->Batch Change->Titles to File name menu option.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto comment used in iWeb...?

I know that there is a way to get the comments I entered on photos in an iPhoto album to be entered as the caption / comment of those same photos once it's exported to an iWeb Photo page...
    But I forgot how...
Does anyone else here remember how to do this...?
    Thanks!

I know there is a way to do this directly without scripts or other appz...
I swear I've aready done this: I have an iPhoto album that I added comments to every photo... Those comments were then included as "captions" for the photos on the resultant iWeb photo page... The comments are under the thumbnail and then as the "title" of the window that pops up when you click the thumbnail...
I know I didn't cut and paste 50+ comments from iPhoto into iWeb... But since no one else seems to have any info on this, maybe I did...

  • How do I get old copy of iWeb?

So I bought the new mac book air (2 of em) and sold both of the old laptops that both contained Iweb.
I had no idea that Apple killed the program.
If I buy an old version of Ilife 09 will I be able to just install Iweb on its own?
Is it possble I could pull his off of my time machine backup from one of the old computers? Does time machine write over old backups immediately? If not is it possible to access the old copies?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, the iLife 11 boxed set does mention iWeb and iDVD, but it is not as visible as iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand as these were all updated as part of iLife 11, but iWeb and iDVD were not.
They will not have removed anything from the boxed set and it should be the same as when it first came out.
If you want a copy of iWeb 09, which is the most up to date, go and search the Amazon website where you will be able to get a boxed set of iLife 09.
Also, for a boxed set of iLife 11 you will need to go to the main Apple store online and NOT the Mac App Store. iWeb and iDVD are not available for purcahse on the Mac App Store.

  • How can I get iPhoto back on my iMac?

My Mac died so I'm now using my brother's old iMac running Mac OS X version 10.5.8.
He didn't give me any disks to do a reinstall so I used a friend's to wipe the data and start new with mine. Unfortunately, I didn't think about all the programs that were on it. Luckily, I had my software disks still for Microsoft suite & Quicken. But, iPhoto isn't on here and now I can only view my massive amounts of photos using preview. Nothing is organized in folders, I can't edit, and generally is making me very sad.
I can't purchase iLife or iPhoto because I'm running an older version of OS X.
I don't can't upgrade to the newest OS X because I'm running too old of a version of OS X.
I can't find anywhere to buy or download from Apple any version of OS X but the newest one.
    What gives?
Any suggestions on how to get iPhoto back?

Well, you can purchase and upgrade the OS o Snow Leopard here http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard and then run software update to get to 10.6.8 to access the Mac App Store and purchase iLife.
Or you can just go here http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_5?url=search-alias%3Dsoftware&field-key words=ilife&sprefix=Ilife%2Caps%2C183 and purchase iLife

  • How do I get iPhoto to appear in my purchases list?

I reinstalled lion on my 2011 Macbook Air, and cannot re-download iPhoto from the App Store. It tells me that iPhoto should be appearing in my purchases list, but it's not there no matter how many times I refresh the page or log in/out.
If there's no easy solution to this on here, I can get iPhoto by other means. I just thought it best to at least attempt to use this service (the App Store) which is supposed to make application management easy.

    You have followed these steps?
    After installation, start from Lion.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to compete installation of your applications.

  • Can't get iphoto to work after tampering with library in Finder

I think I made a big mistake when I tampered with the iphoto library in Pictures in Finder.
Now I can't get iphoto to work. All the pictures are gone in iphoto, the spaces are there but they are blank.
When I open iphoto it goes into the mode (little spinning wheel appears) where I have to "force quit".
Any supggestions on what I can do? Thanks.

The list that shows is just data files and such.
You can burn the entire iPhoto Library folder.
You can burn each Year folder or any other variation.
This is my workflow. The reason I do it the way I describe is because I want a backup of just the photos and video clips I take so I can copy them to a partition of my external drive and burn them to disc. On the other partition I backup my entire users folder
When iPhoto 5 first came out I really think it was programmed to import the smaller 30 sec video clips that cameras were taking at the time. Since then, digital cameras, at least my Canon S2 can take clips as large as your memory card can hold. The first time I tried to download my images and movie clips with my new camera, iPhoto stalled at the movie clips. I wasn't going to take any chances messing up my iPhoto Library so I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.
Here is info on backing up your photos:
    Backing up your iPhoto Library
    1. Burn the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder to a CD or DVD
This method will give you a burned iPhoto Library folder that can be copied back to your computer to replace a damaged library. You can also use this method to backup an old library when you want to create a new Library to use as your current library.
insert a blank CD into your internal or external CD-RW drive and copy the iPhoto library to the CD icon on your desktop. When you drag the CD icon to the Trash/Eject button in the Dock, you are given the option to burn the CD. Click Burn and the CD is created. To burn a DVD backup of your digital images, use a DVD and a SuperDrive-equipped Mac
The easiest way to burn an iPhoto Library folder in the Finder that is larger than 4.7 gig to fit on one DVD is to burn sections of the folder.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Double click the folder to open it.
Drag each Year folder to the desktop.
You should be left with the iPhoto Library folder containing all the data files, and the Year folders.
Combine whatever year folders that amount closest to a DVD burn size on one DVD. Make sure that you have burned all the Year folders, then the iPhoto Library folder with all the data files.
If you ever need to use this backup, insert the DVDs into your computer and copy the folders to the desktop. Put all the Year folders back into the iPhoto Library folder. Then put the iPhoto Library folder back into the Pictures folder.
You can also check out applications for disc spanning:
    Disc-spanning software
    DropDMG
    Toast
    Dragon Burn 4
    BackityMac
Retrospect Express-comes with some external drives
    Retrospect for Macintosh Desktop Edition
    2. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to an external drive formated for a Mac. Do not use this as your only back up as the external can also go bad.
    3. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to your iPod in disk mode
4.Creating your own CDs and DVDs for viewing in iPhoto
This method is a great way to back up Albums of older photos or even your entire library if it is small enough to fit on a DVD. This method will give you a library that will mount within iPhoto in the source column to be viewed. To import any images from this library they need to be dragged into your library in the source column.
If you just want to backup the images in your library:
    1) Within iPhoto select the images, albums or rolls you want to backup. Go to Share>Export and export them to a newly created folder on the desktop. Follow the directions in the next link.
Creating a CD or DVD to be viewed in Windows or by a photo processing company
1.. If you backed up the entire iPhoto Library by burning within iPhoto or burning the folder in the Finder, make sure the burned copy is a good working copy before you delete the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. You delete the iPhoto Library in the finder by dragging it to the trash when iPhoto is closed. When you next launch iPhoto it will create a new empty library for you to start anew.
    2. If you burned just the images, be aware that that is all you are archiving. No metadata will travel with the images such as comments, keywords, etc.
You can then delete those images within iPhoto by highlighting them and hitting the delete key, then empty iPhoto's trash. Do this often and in groups so iPhoto will not choke on too many images.

I brought in a slideshow but photos didn't include comments.  How do I get my comments?

First make sure you've added the comments you want to show in the Add a Description field in iPhoto or in the Title field.  If you put them in the Title field and you envoke the feature in iDVD you won't have to delete the title from each slide to give you just the desciption.  Or batch remove the Titles from all the photos before you add them to the iDVD project. You can allways get them back with the Photos ➙ Batfch Change menu option later on.
Click on the cog wheel menu button at the bottom and select Show titles and comments checkbox.

  • How do i get Iphoto back?

I deleted Iphoto and now i have no idea how to get it back.
I recently changed apple ids and deleted my old one which i first used on my macbook pro about 3 months ago. Now i have i have accidently deleted iphoto and whenever i go to the app store to reinstall it i get an accept button instead of a buy/purchase button and then this error message once i click on the accept button:
"These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications."
So i dont have the apple ID they were first assigned too and i dont want to purchase this application. So i was wondering if there is any way to reinstall it or recover it because my macbook pro came with iphoto already installed.

iPhoto is part of iLife, not OS X. You'll need to either reinstall iLife from your original disks (not sure what version you have or if it will even work with Leopard) or get iLife '08 (probably the most straightforward way to get iPhoto back.)

  • Haloscan Comments in iWeb

Has anyone been able to successfully use Haloscan to allow for comments on iWeb created pages? I can't get it to work. If you have, please tell me where to insert the code. Thanks!

I don't think it can work. Every time you add a comment to an iWeb blog and republish the page, any custom code you had added before is erased. At present there is no way as far as I know to customize a template to add the needed code permanently. Hopefully they will consider this for the next version.

  • Getting iPhoto to reread EXIF info - force rebuild of Library.iPhoto6 file?

    Hi all,
I'm a new Mac & iPhoto 6 user. I imported some photos from my camera into iPhoto. Then I realized that the timestamps on the photos were wrong - I had forgotten to change the time zone when I travelled.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way for iPhoto to add 16 hours to the timestamp for each photo.
So I used jhead to fix each photo's EXIF timestamp. (In both the Originals & Modified folders)
However, now I can't get iPhoto to reread the EXIF data from the photo. I assume that this data is stored in the Library.iPhoto6 file. I've tried just deleting the file & restarting iPhoto, but that doesn't work.
How can I force iPhoto to rebuild the Library.iPhoto6 file?
    G4 Powerbook 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   iLife 6

Thanks for your help, but I'm afraid that neither response solves the problem!
    1. jhead can indeed batch change the date. I used it to change the timestamps on all of the photos in my Modified & Originals folders. I can also verify that the EXIF info in the files themselves has been updated.
    2. Holding down command & option when you start iPhoto does indeed let you rebuild some of the internal information. Unfortunately, it does not solve this problem either. iPhoto does not rebuild its EXIF info in Library.iPhoto6 when you start it up in this fashion.
    3. Deleting the Library.iPhoto6 file doesn't work. When iPhoto is started, it thinks that it doesn't have any photos. So you then have to reimport everything.
Is there no way to get iPhoto to rebuild that file? Reimporting everything would be extraordinarily tedious.
    Cheers,
    Andy
