Getting Iphoto files out of Previous System file

I upgraded to Leopard using the Archive choice. My iphoto and iweb files are in the Previous System file under User and won't load when I load the programs. How do I get them to load. How much free disk space do I need on my HD

You're going to have to change the permissions on that path to get access to the files there.
You can do this using the Get Info Window, just make yourself the owner of the folders in turn. When you get to your Home Folder, drag the foldes you want to the desktop. When you've that done post back and we can get you the rest of the way there.

  • How do I get a vi out of an exe file

I cretaed a lab for our undergrads last year and created an exe and installer to load this on to lab computers. I then altered the initial vi and created another exe file and installer. I am trying to see the difference in the two but I can't find my orignial vi files anywhere. Of course I took no notes and I have misplaced my install disk.
Can I get the vi files out of an exe file somehow? I have version 6i and 7.
    Thanks for your help
    Dave

    Hi,
You can even open the top level vi, and view the hierarchy.

If the OS X 10.2 on the hard drive is/was bootable, try this -
Restart or boot, then immediately press the X key, keep it held down until you know the machine has started to boot using OS X. This is a hardware instruction to the Mac to boot using the first usable instance of OS X it finds.
Once booted to OS X, you should be able to move OS 9's System file into OS 9's System Folder.
Note - in general, unless you know for sure what you are doing and that the results are desired, do not relocate or rename files in OS 9's System Folder or in OS X's System or Library folders.

  • Previous system file

Since installing Tiger, I note that a "Previous System" file has appeared. Do I need this? Also, do I need OS9 file? Not sure if I'm operating any programs with OS9. It was on this iMac when I purchased it new.

Previous System folder is created during an Archive and Install. If you're certain you'll never need any of these files (thousands) you can delete it.
    The same with OS 9.

  • Removing previous system files

Will I gain space on my HD by deleting previous system files.

You won't gain any space until you empty the trash, and that may take quite a long time. The last time I did it, I deleted one top-level folder at a time, then emptied the trash, to reduce the impact. Several of those sub-folders took quite a while.

  • Can't delete Previous System File

    Hi,
I did an archive and install and was left with a Previous System folder that is about 13G. I used "whatsize" app to move it to the trash where I then did a Secure empty trash. Trash can is empty, but when I run Whatsize again, the same previous system folder is still there, taking up 13G's of hard drive space. Any idea how to get rid of this file?
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto 5 in Panther - "missing system files"

I'm running OS 10.3.9 (with iPhoto 4) on one partition of my iBook G4
I just installed 10.4.10 (with iPhoto 5) on a second partition.
I want both versions of iPhoto to access the same "Library", but once iP5 opens the library, it is no longer accessible with iP4, so....
I installed iP5 on the Panther (10.3.9) drive. Problem is, it won't open ... I get the error message "missing system files ... please re-install". Subsequent re-installations don't fix the problem. (BTW, I'm installing from the iBook installation discs, not the commercial version of iLife 05)
Long story short ... I identified the missing files: "AppleAppSupport.framework"
This directory is installed with Tiger ...but doesn't exist in Panther. When I tried to copy the directory from Tiger into Panther, I can't because the parent directory is read-only.
I found the solution was to change the permissions on the Panther directory (PrivateFrameworks) in order to add the "missing" directory to it, and then, change the permissions back. Problem is, I'm not sure how to do this. I have a rough understanding of the "Terminal Application" and what needs to be done, but I don't want to screw things up. Any help and/or sugggestions will be most appreciated.

  • Previous System Files Lost After Re Install?

I recently had to blow out my system and re install my OS. I am pretty sure I checked the box to save the old system files in a directory and install the new one.
My question is, I did not have a most recent Time Machine backup of files from my desktop and had a new directory of pics there. Did I lose anything residing on the desktop directory when I re installed, or did it save in that "Previous System" directory, which as another question, I have no idea where to find that old system directory.
    Thank you for your assistance!

Thanks, Kappy. Didn't understand you were pointing me to the PSF folder in your previous message.
Apparently, I must not have re installed the way I thought and the Mac HD OS Drive is clean with only the new OS, Applications files, etc. So, no PSF folder.
But, at least I know now!
Thank you for your help and good luck!

  • Are "Previous Systems" files important or can they be deleted?

There is a file in my the hard Drive of the MacBook entitled "Previous Systems.localized" which is taking up 9.72GB of space. Is this important or can I delete it to create space on the start up disk?

    Hi -
Did you recently do an 'Archive and Install'? If so, that file may be leftover from your previous system. If things are working smoothly after a week or so I'd go ahead and delete the entire prev. system.

  • How to reconnect with previous system files

I recently had to reset my G4 and am now recovering my archived files. I'm at a loss for iPhoto(6), I reovered all my old files and I guess I have to re-import in to the library. The issue is that there are so many folders that I don't know what to import...orginals, modified, data.....????? Is there a "magic solution" that just reconnects the whole thing? I guess I could just re-import the "orginals" file but should I then rename it first? And should I then get rid of all the other "old" files first? This would be my least preferred option, as it would mean to re-adjust 3000+ pictures. Any help greatly appreciated! Frederic

Have a look inside your iPhoto Library Folder. Is there a file in there called library6.iphoto? If so then you do not need to import anything. Simply hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto, then choose 'Locate' and from there navigate to the library6.iphoto file. This should open your library.
If 1) You do not have this file or 2) it will not open, then you will need to create a new library and populate it.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • OK to delete "Previous Systems" file?

I noticed that after installing 10.5 (or maybe 10.5.1, because of the date), I have a folder called "Previous Systems" with a folder inside that called 2008-01-27_1835. Is it okay to delete this? It's taking 15 GB of space on my disk. Everything is working fine.

    Hi J Micael;
If the Previous Systems folder was from either 10.5 or 10.5.1, then the chances of it being of any use are really slim. I think that deleting it will be a good thing.

  • How to transfer account info out of Previous System folder?

I ran an archive & install (using the OS 10.4 install disk) and neglected to check Preserve User Settings. The information is in Previous Systems, but now that the install has created new user account info I'm not sure what to do. I can copy in the whole user account from Previous Systems, but then I have multiple accounts in Users and I don't know which controls, or if that's a problem. Is there a way to transfer the account settings from Previous Systems into the new User account? I notice that direct copy won't work -- Library won't allow it. Move individual files? Thanks.

  • Distribution won't create .cds file or load previous .cds file

I have successfully created a distribution for my CVI8.0.1 application, and deployed it with no problems.  However, although the settings work, a .cds file never gets created - I checked in the directory.  When I close CVI and start it up again, it complains that the .cds file is missing.  My distribution settings are gone, and I have start all over again, from 'Manage Distributions > New' etc.  I also can not add a .cds file to the Manage Distributions->Add that I can see in the directory and that has beeen previously created.
This is  new thing, I was previosly able to create .cds files and load previously created .cds files. Nothing, as far as I know has changed on my PC.  I am running Windows XP.  I reinstalled CVI but it did not help.
All of the code is in clearcase, several people (at different times) edit the files in the project and create distributions.  Other people also running CVI8.0.1 can create .cds files.
    What can I do?
    Lorrie

I've made a modified version of cvi.dll to log some operations. Swap the attached version out with the one in your National Instruments\CVI80 directory (make sure to back up the original so you can restore it later). Then launch CVI, open the Manage Distributions dialog, and try to add an existing .cds file. Close CVI, then look for the log file c:\cvi_log.txt and post it back here.
Hopefully if we can figure out what's failing in the add, it will explain why the save is failing, too.

  • How do I get emails from my archived PREVIOUS SYSTEM

I recently had to reinstall Mac OS X. I chose to archive my previous system. This was a GREAT feature because i was able to find all my previously installed apps/songs/movies and just drag them into the new system:)
However, is there a way to get all my old emails from "MAIL" on my previous system? I had some mailboxes setup in Mail on my previous system, and had some emaild in my mailboxes that I would like to import over into my new, current system.
    How can this be done?
    THANKS!

I take it you did an archive and install without preserving your user settings.
Otherwise all this stuff would have been automatically imported.
you can restore your mail to the state it was in prior to the reinstall as follows.
quit Mail. go to Previous systems folder and inside there should be a folder YYYY-MM-DD_HHMM corresponding to the install date. go there->users/Username. that's your archived home directory. in it find the folder Library/Mail and the file Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. copy them to the corresponding places in your current home directory. once you start Mail it should look just as it was prior to the reinstall.
