Getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

Hi,
I am getting a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError in a created oa page. The suspected cause is running the same query for many times (> 12 times). But it's necessary to run them many times. So is there any solution to work the error out? like cleaning the JVM memory manually/programatically? Please advise.
thank you very much!

Hi Guys,
Thanks very much for the helpful inputs.
Updating the case:
1. vo.ClearCache() will not work. I think this one clear the VO cache but not memory
2. vo.reset() will work. that means this one will clear the memory?
3. System.gc() will work. I put this function every time I finished running the query
But I think Pratap is right. The right way to work this out is go through procedures.
And do you guys think vo.reset() will be good enough for this issue? (System.gc() is not recommended I think.)
thanks a lot.

When we update our application which is an heavy EAR file we get the following errors in the logs. But the same applications works well when we deploy it for the first few times why is this happening we have enough space in RAM still we get this error and when we restart our server it again works for sometime.

Hi,
Now as you can see that you are getting *"java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space"* during the activation on an application it means that you are application needs more space in the non-heap part of the JVM which is PermGen to create the Classes, Class Structures, Methods and Reflection Objects of this applications hence you are getting this issue.
Now how to solve this issue you try the following check list which would help you resolve this issue and overcome same type of issue in future
Point-1). Make Sure that the PermGen Area is not set to a very less value.
Point-2). Usually if an Application has Many JSP Pages in that case every JSP will be converted to a *.class file before JSP Request Process. So a large number of JSPs causes generation of a Large number of *.class files all these classes gets loaded in the PermGen area.
Point-3). While allocating the -XX:MaxPermSize make sure that you follow a rough Formula… which works in most of the Application Servers.
MaxPermSize = (Xmx/3) —- Very Special Cases (One Third of maximum Heap Size)
MaxPermSize = (Xmx/4) —- Recommended (One Fourth Of maximum Heap Size

• Getting 'java.lang.OutOfMemoryError' while importing process flows.

Hello,
We are getting 'java.lang.OutOfMemoryError' error while importing process flows in our QA environment. This environment is not new. The same process flows were working perfectly fine till last week.
This week we had to delete the project in QA and reimport all the objects. Import went fine for all, except process flows. We could deploy all other objects as well.
We have tried increasing JVM in run_service.sh and owbclient.sh files by increasing -Xmx, -Xmx and Dlimit. We increased as far as 2048M ( This is the max memory available on our server)
We are using OWB version 10.2.0.2 and Oracle 10G over Linux. Did anyone of you face the same issue ? Please le us know the solution.
Thanks
Madhavi

Hi Madhavi,
Which locale language is shown in your OWB client configuration? We had this issue in previous versions (I haven't found it in this version, but I'm used to work with English since these previous versions) So we always adjust Preferences (Tools -> Preferences...) to see Appearance -> Locale -> English.
Try to change the locale language if it's your case.

• One app service getting "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"

We are running a commercial app on WebLogic 9.2. Two physical servers with 5 application processes running on each in a single cluster. on the server in question, we have 5.5 gigs of free ram at the moment and still getting the message below.
We have 10 app servers and one is getting this message. the full text of it is:
####<Apr 13, 2011 10:58:12 AM CDT> <Warning> <DeploymentService> <lxwbwapa> <workbpr2_node_1a> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '6' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <> <1302710292663> <BEA-290064> <Deployment service servlet encountered an Exception while handling the deployment service message for request id "-1" from server "Admin_pr2_a". Exception is: "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
".>
I dug back through the logs and found it started a couple of weeks ago. I have been able to log into this app server without issue.
Something else I have noticed is that the total heap size for all the app services have shrunk from the initial value of 1.5G - they have all dropped down into the 500 meg range. Is this normal? Why has this one not increased the size of the heap if it is running out of memory?
I could restart the service for this app server but I would not know the cause and since it is a production server where I am not recieving complaints, I am hesitant to go through the res tape to do a re-start.
Any information or past experience with this type issue is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
W

Hi moonsit !
Yes, currently our PermSize is set to 384mb (-XX:MaxPermSize=384m).
Hi Alan !
Yes, we get the same conclusion, after deploy or redeploy projects we get the OOME, but I was expecting that SUN support resolve this issue and not use the stop/start as a way to fix that, since sometimes it will impact our production environment.
I searched over internet and discover that some thirdpart libraries version has memory leaks. It's the case of apache commons-logging 1.0.6 and apache commons-beanutils 1.6. I found them in the lib directory of Integration Server in JCAPS 5.1.3 and may be there is more thinks like that. Both libraries has newer version with this issue fixed. Maybe SUN need to be adviced about that.
Does anyone else found a way to fix that ? Or a workaround that we can do to avoid the restart of LH ?
Thanks !

• Constantly getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError when submitting the form.

Hello,
I know this doesn't exactly pertain to Form Server, but maybe someone has some insight.
I set up JBoss 3.2.5 with Java 1.4.2.11 on a seperate machine to do a remote connection to my LiveCycle environment.
I am using the SOAPClient sample from the developer guide to save my form. I am able to save the submitted form for just fine, but I can only do so once and the second time I always get am error: "javax.servlet.ServletException: Servlet execution threw an exception" root cause: "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError"
Even with just the code from the guide, I get this error. Does anyone have any insight into fixing this? I really don't know what to fix in the code since I used the sample from the guide and they close the objects if that was an issue. If it matters, the pdf file I am submitting to be saved is about 800KB and then the saved file size is about 1400KB
I already tried setting within the run.conf file the following: JAVA_OPTS="-server -Xms1028m -Xmx1028m" but I still get the same out of Memory error. The only error within the server.log file is the following:
2007-01-10 15:46:19,125 ERROR [org.jboss.web.localhost.Engine] StandardWrapperValve[SubmitPart1]: Servlet.service() for servlet SubmitPart1 threw exception
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
If the problem is not yet resolved here is my suggestion.
With my interaction with Adobe I came to know that SOAP has a limitation of handling a max of 10 MB and in real-time you may stitch the forms more than 10MB.
Use the EJBClient instead of SOAPClient.
You may set this is in FormServerDefinition class.
Thanks,
Vijay

• Keep getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError.....SOMEONE HELP!!!!

I am currently writing code for a database software using Joins, Collections, Vectors, etc. and when running the code I keep getting a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError. The thing is that I have a parser that parses through different XML files and Java files. It seems as though some of my collections need more space or something else doesn't have enough memory for the parser to pick up everything. It only happens after I add a new constrainable or selectable to the XML file and try and run Queries with that (at least that is where I think the problem is). At this point I have no clue as to what is going on. Could someone please help me out.
Thanks in Advance!

i got that once, i did not close() connections/or I opened too many
i found out 700 is too many the hard way.

• Getting java.lang.outofmemoryerror: Java heap space error

I am using coldfusion 8. I frequently get the error 'java.lang.outofmemoryerror: Java heap space'. Can anyone help me?

Regards,
Satheesh.

Well... what does the error message tell you is wrong?  You're running out of memory.  I presume you understand how computer memory works, if not specifically how Java memory allocation works.  So... you have x amount of memory, and you're trying to use >x amount of memory.  You can't do that.  There are two approaches to dealing with a problem like this:
a) have more memory;
b) use less memory.
What are your JVM memory settings?  They're in jvm.config dir, which'll be - by default - in your Jrun4/bin dir for a multi-server install, or somewhere like ColdFusion/runtime/bin or something like that on a stand-alone install.
Next... what are you loading into memory?  This is trickier to answer.  But every variable you create takes up memory.  People often load up the application or session scopes with stuff that's "convenient" to store in shared-scope memory, but really chew through it.  Putting CFC instances in the session scope is a really good way to waste memory, as they seem to have quite a large footprint.
It's really impossible to say what's eating the memory based on what info you've given us (basically: none), but you can use things like FusionReactor to examine what's going into memory.  Or CF* Enterprise has some of its own memory profiling stuff... I've never used it but it might be of some use.
Have you googled "coldfusion java.lang.outofmemory"?

• Getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError when deploying

I have tried to deploy trough JDeveloper as well but with the same result. I would be very grateful if someone could point me in some direction. Doeas anyone know what causes this? What acctually happens during deployment, what files are read?
Thank you!

Hello,
Could you give more information about the application?
Which version of OC4J are you using?
Which JDK and OS?
From what I see this is the WS generation that fails could you describe the style of WS you have developped? (EJB, POJO?, ..)
Can you run the code form JDeveloper (not deploy run the application)

• Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: allocLargeObjectOrArray error for large payload

Our is an outbound flow where one FTP adapter picks the files and it calls a requester service, requester service calls the EBS and EBS calls the provider service, and finally file is getting written using the B2B.
Since last 4/5 days we are getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: allocLargeObjectOrArray.
We are getting this error when large payloads are being used for doing testing.
As per our understanding, when you have a tree of composite invocations (so A invokes B invokes C invokes D via flowN 100 times), none of the memory is released until they all complete.
1. Could you please let us know exactly when memory is released?
2. How to tune/optimize this?
Our flow is like:

• Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread on Win2000

Dear all,
I install a java server (SAP J2EE) on the windows machine and run into the following problem: the total number of threads cannot exceed 1200 (as i see this in the task manager)
After it does reach this number no other tasks can be started. Thereafter i get java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread error .
However the other machine where the same distribution of Win2000 Server is installed can easily coupe with more than 2500 theads. The same is true when the safe mode on the first machine is on: I can generate more than 1200 threads. So it seems the problem has something to do with Windows itself.
I am really puzzled here, would really appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance,

well, i do not supply any options when i start jvm, but it is not the course:
it also happens with c programs. however in the safe mode it works. both for c and for java program.
so it must be either some software (however memory is ok) or ...? i am lost. In some Unix system you can set the total number of threads allowed as an option in the kernal. But i guess this is not the case with windows.
Thanks a lot for your reply,

• Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError---- URGENT PLEASE

Hi, I have a CSV button(Comma Separated Value) on my page which downloads the JSP results to excel spreadsheet. You might want to increase the memory allocated to your process when you run. It is a parameter you can provide in the project settings in the Run section.

              java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
              <<no stack trace available>>

Hi JLK,
Now as you can see that you are getting "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space" during the activation on an application it means that you are application needs more space in the non-heap part of the JVM which is PermGen to create the Classes, Class Structures, Methods and Reflection Objects of this applications hence you are getting this issue.
Now how to solve this issue you try the following check list which would help you resolve this issue and overcome same type of issue in future
1). Make Sure that the PermGen Area is not set to a very less value.
2). Usually if an Application has Many JSP Pages in that case every JSP will be converted to a *.class file before JSP Request Process. So a large number of JSPs causes generation of a Large number of *.class files all these classes gets loaded in the PermGen area.
To get more information on this I would suggest you to have look at the below link which would surely help you in this case

• 10.1.3 Apps Server java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

Hi,
I am continually getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space errors when using the application server control. I have two applications deployed which have been running ok (since i bumped up the MaxPermSize in oc4j_opmn.xml)
I have set the max perm size to 512m should i need to set this higher to get the AS stable?
The error has happened this time when I selected an application and clicked Redeploy. Because the ASC dies i can't get any useful information on what the server is doing before it memory leaks itself out of existence.
any help would be appreciated,
Brenden

Hi,
I found this in the manual as a solution for out of memory errors:
(from the opmn.xml in $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/)
<ias-component id="OC4J">
      <process-type id="home" module-id="OC4J" status="enabled">
        <module-data>
          <category id="start-parameters">
            <data id="java-options" value="-Xms512m -Xmx512m -Djava.awt.headless=true
              -Dhttp.webdir.enable=false"/>
          </category>
        </module-data>
      </process-type>
</ias-component>reference:

shall see if it works......
