Getting Leopard and Logic running

Hey folks I thought some of this might help, so I'll post it here so others can benefit.
I got Logic 8 and Leopard rockin' in fact better than on tiger.
Things to watch out for...
PACE installer for iLok. Go to the pace site and get the latest installer. DON'T install the one what comes with the Waves plugins. I use the Waves SSL 4000 plugin and it works great, just install the PACE software FIRST and when the Waves plugin says it wants to install its own just quit.
MELODYNE - DO NOT INSTALL THE REWIRE CRAP. Do a custom install. If you didn't do a custom install, go into /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and remove the Melodyne Bridge plug. Also go into /Library/Application Support/PropellerHead Software and remove the ReWire stuff that's in there. (This will prevent logic from crashing.
SYMPHONY ENSEMBLE - Get the latest drivers from Apogee. As posted in another thread, if you install that and have a MACKIE MCU IT WILL WORK AGAIN! Wohoo!
So right now I have all my plugins working, everything authenticated and is running like a champ in Leo. I was thinking I might have to keep Tiger, but nope, everything is running for me... BUH BYE TIGER!
Plugs that I have which work and tested:
LiquidMix (using latest beta)
Waves SSL 4000
Symphony
DUY (all of them)
URS S Series
UAD-1 v4.8
GuitarRig 2
Melodyne Studio and Plugin (3.2)
(Did not install BFD it has issues with Logic 8 nothing to do with Leopard)

Yeah get Logic 8. I would be very surprised if 7.x worked on Leopard, but maybe it will, however just like any company if there is a new version of software chances are that the previous version will no longer get updates, and if it's not working now, they're not gonna fix it.
Since you're on Leopard, you can't use the 'but I have a session that is important' argument, or I don't want to go to Logic 8 because of bugs You crossed the bleeding edge line

I am running Snow Leopard and have run the Keychain repair a few times to no avail.
Is there a fix for this or do I have to find another email program?

This is frequent, not just occasionally.  All cancel does is stop the email from coming through until I provide the password.
I thought about it being on the provider's end but it never happened when I was using Entourage, I just don't particularly like that program.
I don't understand why this problem has gone on so long without Apple doing something to fix it but I will continue to look for alternatives to the Apple Mail program.  If I find a good one I will let all know through avenue.
Thanks again to all who tried to help.

  • Business connector scheduler gets hanged and Next run value is large number

    Hi All,
I see the scheduler in business connector gets hanged and the Next run value shows huge/large number like 9223370831700598.0 sec. Please can anyone suggest what can be done.
Currently BC ver is 4.7. The problem gets resolved every time when i restart the server.

    Hi,
Not aware of the reason though, I guess you must be using the simple scheduled tasks.
Try using complex reapting tasks where you specify days , minutes etc.
    It should work fine.
Hope it helps. Reward if useful.

  • Tiger Upgraded to Snow Leopard and computer runs SLOW, SLOW, SLOW

I have Leopardcy and itch'n for a cure! Has anyone loaded Snow Leopard onto a Tiger, 4.0.?? operating system? I was told I could. I backed up the info I had in my computger on an external hard drive first, then loaded Snow Leopard. Now it runs so slow I could cry. It took 90 seconds to open Pages, 4 minutes to get onto Safari. The Geek Squad at Best Buy store said to reload Tiger, but first back up the current info onto my backup with Time Machine. Questions: If I take Snow Leopard out and reinput Tiger, will Time Machine still be there?? Is it now in my external so it will work or ???? What will be the ramifications of reloading Tiger??
I may need more RAM, but I don't know how to determine that. Any ideas of how to figure out what it is?
Any ideas are most appreciated. Thanks,

It sounds like you have very very limited RAM and very limited free hard disk space.
The lack of RAM causes the OS to attempt to buffer information to hard disk. The lack of hard disk space causes everything to become 'slower than molasses' as the system tries to find free space available on the hard disk.
I'm wondering if you read the installation requirements before you installed Snow Leopard?
Snow Leopard minimum requirements are 1Gb RAM (but note that MORE is recommended) and 5-7Gb available hard disk space, just to install it.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Snow_Leopard_InstallationInstructions.pdf
Click on Apple, About This Mac, More Info. Memory shows how much RAM is installed.
Serial-ATA shows details about your installed hard disk but you have to scroll down to see how much disk space is in use and how much is available. If you have less than 10% to 15% of your hard disk free after installing Snow Leopard, you should get both a larger hard drive as well as more RAM (Snow Leopard runs pretty well in 2Gb).
Since it came with Tiger installed, I'm guessing you probably have a 2006 or 2007 1.83Ghz or 2.0Ghz MacBook with 512Mb or 1Gb RAM and an 80Gb or 120Gb drive. You can find factory specs for your model here:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/by_capability/mac-specs-by-machine-model-machine -id.html
TIme Machine was added with Tiger, OS X 10.5.x, so NO, *a Time Machine backup cannot be restored to Leopard, 10.4.x.* (And you now have a good reason to avoid that BB for future technical support.)

  • Replaced an older IMac that had OS snow leopard and could run microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. I'm told that this version of Office for Mac will not run on OS mountain lion. Is this true? or is there a workaround?

Just received a new Imac running OS10.8 Mountain Lion. I have MS Office 2004 that ran ok on OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. I'm told that this software will not work on the new OS. Are there any work arounds?

... and have only used Word and hate to try to learn something new if not necessary.
The dirty little secret that they are keeping from you, is YES, there is a way to continue to use Microsoft Office's Word 2004 in Mountain Lion!
It is to install Snow Leopard Server into Parallels 8 on your new Mac and then install and run Word 2004 there:
Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only). Parallels 8 retails for $79 but can be found for less searching for discounts on the internet.
Personally I hate the way Microsoft has changed Word 2008 and Word 2011, because I was 100% comfortable with how Word 2004 was setup and utilized.  There is a learning curve to both of these upgrades and a more steeper one to the "free" alternatives that were suggested to you.
In a perfect world, you should upgrade to Office 2011; I did (actually it was a gift, but the price was not an object for me anyway). But the world is not perfect...
So, if, like me, there are times that you are most comfortable operating in the Word 2004 environment, my suggestion offers you a easy, stable, relatively inexpensive means to continue to do so in Mountain Lion.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Snow leopard and logic 8 question

    Hi
i know this question has been asked before but id like an up-dated answer so here goes.....L8 and snow leopard????? how is it together??? any major issues i should know about??
iv tried out L9 a few times and i like what i have seen although the problems i see on this site worry me a little so il wait a little longer.
For now, il start with upgrading to snow leopard using L8 so therefor my question.
Also, some instruments and plug-ins id especially like to know if o.k are Kontakt and Battery 3, EXS24, Ozone 4... iv seen spectrasonics put out updates for their instruments so i assume that those will be good.
    O.K
    thanks for any help.

I am using LP8 and SL together, no issues that I've run into.

  • One Macbook running Leopard and one running Tiger

I have one Macbook running Tiger and one Macbook running Leopard, can I upgrade both machines to Snow Leopard with the Family pack for $49.95?

As some people on other threads have been stating, there is nothing legally that says you can not use the SL Upgrade on a machine running Tiger. The word used is "suggest" that you use the box set. Again, as others have mentioned, if you did not go to the Apple website but just went to the store (ie Best Buy) the $29 SL Upgrade only requires an intel machine.

  • MBP (retina) get hot and fans run so fast

    Dear All,
I have MacBook pro with Retina Display. I use it for designing, programming and web browsing
I notice when I'm running Adobe Ps and Ai with (Firefox or Safari of Google chrome) and Parallels, ( also online movies)
getting very hot and I little nosie speed fans
so how to solve this problem
it's need to return it to App store?

the things you are describing are all very process intensive in their own rights and very much so if all running together on the mac at once. this would be expected product behavior while doing the things you mentioned.
you can do SMC reset which regulates the fan in the mac this article tells how to do that:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
basically unless you can limit the types of apps you run at one time this may be ongoing issue for you since it's normal for the mac to run hot when the processor is running hard

  • My macbook is getting hot and running constantly

My macbook is getting hot and fan running constantly?

Quit all your programs and wait a couple of minutes. It's normal that the fan are running constantly when using games or other high CPU-using programs.

  • Report: Moved from 10.58 to 10.62 and Logic 9.1

I held off as long as I could but then bit the bullet. I think my Magic Mouse was begging me to do it so I could enjoy the new scrolling features:)
At any rate, been working all day today and Logic is behaving just fine. I am still getting some Disk Too Slow messages and beginning to wonder whether my record drive needs replacing (2 years in). But am happy to say that all appears to be well, and have also installed the new Pro Kit update.
    Whew!
    TH

A few months back, I did the jump from Tiger and Logic 8 straight to the latest everything, Snow Leopard and Logic 9.. Of course I did a complete clone of my system first, and was not working on any important projects at the time so I too braced myself for everything to go haywire. But similarly to you, it went like clockwork, and it's all running way better than anticipated. So far I've had zero crashes in Logic, except from opening an older project from Logic 8 which had a movie in it, but I've gotten around that. Have worked on some very intensive projects (intensive at least for a MBP), using video, loads of sampler instruments, synths, plug ins, UAD2 laptop card.. and I have to say that so far it's feeling like the most stable combination of Logic and OSX that I've worked with in a while. I'm not exactly a flag-waving fanboy, just a seasoned pro user, so it's been a pleasant surprise to have a pretty reliable DAW to work with. I decided to bypass Leopard because we have it on the computers at the studio, and the Logic 8 + OSX 10.5x combo was giving us several crashes a day, plus weird display issues in the finder (strange grey bars in finder windows), and just a whole lot of general flakiness. So I'm glad I decided to skip that one and go straight to where I am now.
Btw, not bothering with 64bit as it's not of any use on my MBP. Suits me fine, by the time I get a bigger machine with enough RAM to make 64bit worthwhile, the waters should have settled down a little on that front.
Are you still running smoothly a few days into it?

  • Has anyone had a problem using Mainstage 2 and Logic 9 with PreSonus fire studio Mobile?

I Still can't get Mainstage and Logic to play well with my setup. I'm using a Mac Pro 2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB ram and Logic 9.1.6 and Mainstage2. I have a PreSonus Firestudio Mobile and M-Audio Midisport midi interfaces. The only Midisport that works consistently is a MisiSport 2X2 sith a thru/merge switch set to merge. I am playing all of this with a Roland A-90 keyboard. Logic sometimes starts, but the audio interface doesn't work. Mainstage crashes on start-up. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi
There have been several reported issues on this forum about problems a) with Roland controllers (Sending MIDI Clock and 'All Notes Off' ???), and b) MIDSport interfaces

I suggest that you try a 'scientific' process of elimination:
Disconnect all external hardware, and try MS
Connect the hardware singly, one at a time, to determine which is causing the problem

  • Snow Leopard and Appleworks

I have several scrips I use that access Appleworks. Since installing Snow Leopard, Apple Script crashes when I try to run any of them. When I first opened AppleWorks after the OS update, it told me I had to install "Rosetta," which I did and AW now opens, but AS still crashes when I try to run any of the AW scripts.
Are there any suggestions out there? I have a copy of Numbers 09, which will I'm sure will work, and I have expected that someday I would be forced to switch over from AW. But, I would rather not have to do it just now as I have charts on AW and I have not been able to use Numbers to make anything close to them.

Ooops! I posted too soon. After my prior post, I tried to load the AW script again and it continued to cause Script Editor to crash. But, several of the other scripts that also used AW not only loaded into AS, but ran not only normally, but much faster. I finally determined that it was only the one script that crashed AS. I pulled a copy of that same script from my last backup and it loaded and ran fine. So, as of this moment, I am a happy camper and everything runs under Snow Leopard, AND, it runs noticeably faster. One particular script runs at least ten time faster, which is amazing.

  • Macbook Pro 13" and Logic!

    Hello,
I am planning to buy the 2011 macbook pro 13 with i5 processor in july 2011 when it comes with the latest OSX Lion. so my question is will I be able to use the latest Logic express or Logic studio software properly and smoothly without any problem? is this configuration enough or will it be slow to run the logic express or logic studio?
I am new to the mac world and will be buying my first mac ever and also new to logic.
is the 2011 macbook 13" with i5 dual core sufficient enough or 15" i7 quad core is required?
your help will be greatly appreaciated. thank you.

    Hi
Noone can say how Logic 9.1.4 and Mainstage 2 will perform under OSX Lion as it hasn't been released yet. It's also difficult to tell you whether this configuration will suit your needs as you don't mention how needs for live performance.
Generally speaking, Mainstage and Logic run very well for me on OSX 10.6.7 on a 15" i7 MBP. I think the Quad core helps a lot, having said that a second machine I have is the C2Duo early 2008 MBP which handles Mainstage 2 pretty well too.
You may find screen size to be an issue and if your budget can stretch I'd always recommend the i7 quad over the i5 dual core.
    Hope that helps

  • How do I get my macmini running Mountain Lion to see my Canon USB printer connected to my Airport Extreme? I have a macbook pro running leopard and that works fine. The versions of airport utility are different and I can't even see the printer from new 1

I am having trouble seeing my usb printer from my second gen airport extreme using the newest version of airport utility under Mountain Lion. UGH! And while I can see and network to my Canon IP5000 from my macbook pro running leopard, I can't from my new macmini running Mountain Lion. Any help would be appreciated in configuring my macmini so it can see the Canon IP5000 on the airport extreme. Don't want to "share" the printer from the laptop because that would be a cludge. Thanks ahead

I solved this one based on another post. Turned out I needed the snow leopard IP5000 driver. I had just copied over the leopard driver (I had saved my .dmg file) and installed that but it didn't work. So I downloaded the latest driver which turned out to be for snow leopard and I am guessing since it is 64bit that is why it worked and the leopard driver didn't. Anyway, I also had to hook the printer up via usb to the mac mini to get it to work locally before the O/S would see it over Bonjour via the airport extreme.
