Getting Mail Emails from a Time Machine Backup

I have all my emails backed up on my time machine drive from my old MBP before it broke, but I don't want to copy across everything from that backup. Can I just copy across my emails? Where are they? The email account settings aren't so important because I can re-enter those.
Thanks,
Nick

Your mail is stored in folder /Users/youraccount/Library/Mail. You should restore the whole folder.
The Mail.app preferences are stored in file /Users/youraccount/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Before your restore the data you should quit the Mail app.
Good luck.

I had to reformat my OSX 10.5.8 and I can't restore my emails from my time machine backup from an external hard drive - only the latest (post backup) time machine back ups are available to restore. Please can any help? I can find the mail folder in my libraries, but the Restore Button is grayed out

OSX treats the reformatted drive as a different one; it's the same as replacing it, and the old one is no longer connected.
See #E3 in  Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see and restore from the "old" drive.
And, you may not want to restore via the Finder; see the blue box in #15 of  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • How do I retrieve my Mail files from a Time Machine backup?

I reformatted my iMac hard rive because I was having all kinds of problems with speed and crashing.  I did a Time Machine backup and then reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Yosemite.  I then reinstalled fresh apps and all my files.  I just don't know where to find my email files on the backup.  I don't even know where to find them on my current system.  In older OS X systems, they were easily located under your user name.  Where'd they go?  Please help.

Open Finder then your user Library. You can get to your user Library from Finder/Go/Go To Folder and type ~/Library
Next, open the Mail folder; then click on the Time Machine icon in the Menu Bar and Enter Time Machine. This should open Time Machine to your ~/Library/Mail folder that you just opened. Now, you should be able to copy your V2 folder for what ever date that should have all your mailboxes.

  • Importing Mail folders from a Time Machine Backup

    Hi,
i just finished setting up my brand new MacBook Air, what i wan't able to do was to import my Mail folders from the last backup of my previous MacBookPro and merge them into Mail on this computer.
To be more detailed, on my last computer i had some folders i created to store some important emails from work, from a specific person or for a specific porpouse.
I would definitly need those folders with the emails they contains on this computer too.
What i have is a backup made from time machine on an external device. I cannot restore Mail from it because it says it's a basic application of osx and cannot be deleted. Is there a path or a specific way i can find those folders with and bring them on my new computer?
Thanks a lot to all who will help me.
To be more clear, here is a screen of the type of folders i mean:

This item in Pondinis Time Machine stuff may help:
You can restore entire mailboxes or individual messages

  • Getting picture files from a time machine backup

hi...my old iMac (2008) finally died. my family all has notebooks, but we used to keep all of our pictures and music on the iMac, backed up in Time Machine on a LaCie external drive.
we are not looking to replace the iMac. however, i need to be able to access the picture and music files from Time Machine on the external drive and put them on my lap top.
how would i go about doing that?
any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

You need to restore the iPhoto Library from time machine as shown below:
Also you don't need to use the Reveal in Finder method to get the photos out of the library.  The following User Tip by Terence Devlin is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto):  How to Access Files in iPhoto

  • Mail from Lion Time Machine Backup to Mountain Lion

    Hello,
My Lion iMac is crashed and now I want to put my Mail database from Lion Time Machine Backup to my Mountain Lion Mac Mini.
In Migration-assistent under Users there is no topic for Address Book, Calendar and Mail. Also the helpdesk told me not to use the migration-assistent but doing it manually.
How can I add extra accounts from the Lion Time Machine Backup ?
I have already <emailaccount1> working on my Mac Mini. It is just merging <emailaccount2> upto <emailaccount7>.
Is it just copying Library/Mail/V2/POP-<emailaccount2> to ~/Library/Mail/V2/POP-<emailaccount2>  or do I have to change something under Preferences ?
    Thanks,
    Hubert

    Hello Sig,
This helped but the original mail data is deleted completely. I tried it on a dummy account and discovered that the original data of <emailaccount1> is deleted by copying the Mail folder onto the original one.
So I made a copy of the Mail folder before overwriting it. Then I copied the deleted mbox files back to the Mailboxes folder and started Mail.app.
    Thanks,
    Hubert

Had a recent crash on my macbook, was previously using OS 10.6 I think. Restored from recent Time Machine backup and updated to OS 10.8.2 and now I cannot open Logic Pro 9. I get a 'No entry' Icon and a not supported on this type of Mac message. I cannot update either as anything up to 9.1.1 tells me I don't need it yet 9.1.2 tells me I need an eligable Logic Pro Version was not found in applications.
All of my files are stored in a separate hard drive with only the actual app having been on my Macbook. Should I just reinstall?

    Hi
To run Mouitain Lion you need to update Logic.
For the updaters to work the Logic application must be:
    a) Within the Applications folder, and not in any sub-folder
    b) Named "Logic Pro" with no extra numbers or spaces

  • How do I retrieve mails from a time machine backup of a different computer?

I had to reformat my computer because of a trojan file I couldn't eradicate, and I didn't want to restore files from a time machine backup for fear of reinstalling the trojan. After reinstalling OS Maverick, my MacBook Pro from early 2009 is now back to good performance. However, I would like to retrieve my old archived mails from 2009 onwards, excluding the present year, of course. I know those mails are there, but how can I access them?
    Thank you.

  • HT4191 Can I restore my NOTES mailbox to MAIL from a Time Machine backup?

I am new to the world of discussion so please bear with me.  In trying to resolve a syncing problem between the iMac and iPad, I seem to have somehow deleted all the Notes we had stored.  Can I restore from a Time Machine backup?

In theory - yes. The backup should restore all of the iPad settings - including mail settings.
If you backup the iPad with regularity, you do not need to resort to Time Machine. The backups should still be on your Mac.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
iOS: How to backup (and restore from a backup)
A very quick rundown on how to restore from a backup. But read the articles above.
Turn off auto sync first. Launch itunes and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices. Check the box at the bottom - Prevent iPods, iPhones .... you will see what I mean. Click OK . Quit iTunes.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Right Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
    Select - Restore from backup
    Then sync with iTunes.

  • How to restore an Apple Mail draft file from a time machine backup

Never mind. Just figured it out. I restored the single file, but after that I'm receiving dozens of old notifications of new Mail. Not sure why.

  • Where is email stored in Time Machine backups?

Just had my computer stolen. I have backups on Time Machine via Time Capsule and want to share my wife's computer until we can buy a new one.  So, I want to get my email from the backup and move it to her computer, without doing a total restore of everything else that was on my machine.  The problem is, when I go in to the backups, I can't find where Mail is stored. On a mac, I know how to find it by clicking on Option while in the GO menu. This makes Library appear as an option in the Go menu.  Without doing this, however, Library is hidden, and it is within this Library that Mail is stored.  There is no way to do within the backups because there is no Go Menu in Time Machine - just on the Mac itself.  How can I retrieve all of my email from a Time Machine/Time Capsule backup  and move it to the other Mac (which uses the same Time Capsule)?

  • Are all programs / configuration settings restored from a Time Machine backup?

The hardrive in my late 2006 Macbook 2.0ghz laptop has finally kicked the bucket.  I confirmed this with an Apple Genius at my local Apple store after she plugged in an external drive and running disk utility to run a diagnostic. However, I forgot to ask her about some details concerning my time machine backup which resides on an external drive that connects via firewire.  I do know that my files and folders should be restored without issues.  Although, I'm not sure about the following:
    1.  Will all my non-apple applications / programs be restored?
    2.  Will my configuration settings for mail be restored?
    3.  Will my itunes settings be restored (I have an iphone and ipad that connects to itunes)?
    4.  Will my contacts in address book be restored?
I still have the original drive of this laptop which still works just fine and boots up okay (never erased the OS) where the upgraded drive that I installed a few years ago is the one that failed. Therefore, I will be reverting back to the original drive that is smaller and slower.
The Genius recommended to run disk utility from the Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD (I originally had Leopard installed) to format the drive/install the OS and then do a full restore from my time machine backup.  Although, I'm not sure if all my programs and settings for certain apps will be restored.  I appreciate any help or other optioins I can possibly do to get back my saved files, programs, and settings.

  • How do i import an iPhoto library from a time machine backup?

how do i import an iPhoto library from a time machine backup? I did a back up and i formatted my machine. How do i get iphoto to be the same?

This screenshot shows how to restore a library from Time Machine.
There is NO importing necessary.  One should never import one library into another.  Just restore it to your Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.
