Getting message E:\iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesPrefs corrupt or unreadable

I only bought my iPod three weeks ago, and everything had been running smoothly.
But today while putting a playlist together my whole memory (7 gb) was wiped (it was on the manual update setting) and I cannot explain why.
Now I keep getting the message that file or directory E:\iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesPrefs is corrupt or unreadable.
When I attach my iPod, it keeps wanting me to register again, which has no effect on the problem at hand. The iPod icon comes up in the source column and my iPod can be updated with what's in my iTunes library and the screen shows that a certain amount of available memory has been used.
However when it is disconnected and I try to use the iPod there are no files on it.

hi jules!
with that message, let's start with this document:

Every time I connect my ipod (30g video) to my computer it pops up the "ipod setup assistant". Then I get a message on the bottom right of my computer screen that says "file or directory \ipod_control\itunes\itunesprefs is corrupt or unreadable, please run chkdsk. I ran chkdsk and it didn't help. I'm sure this is an easy problem, but I am clueless. Can anyone help?

    Greetings,
What you want to do here is to Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater.
    Restoring: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
    iPod Updater: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
We have been discussing the chkdsk issue since Nov 2004, when it was introduced by some particularly buggy iPod firmware.
For more info visit our thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=179452
and the Apple KB article on the issue: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300554
Feel free to post back should you require further assistance. There is a whole stack of information on the chkdsk issue, but I won't seek to bore you with it here...
I add a note of caution - in that chkdsk issues usually affect Gen4+ iPods, and you have a Gen5. If the Restore does not solve your problems, let us know. I have been consulting on some cases where a hardware fault was to blame, and the user had to get their Pod changed out...
    Kind regards,
    Gopha

  • TS1717 My Itunes won't open and I am getting message "the file "iTunes Library .itl" cannot be ready because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".  Any suggestions?

My iTunes won't open and I am getting message "the file iTunes library .itl"cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.  Anyone have a suggestion?

I don't know why this error occurs, unless you have attempted to downgrade iTunes.
This method should get you up and running again.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Ipod Mini - error H:/ipod_control/itunes/tempfile1 corrupt/unreadable

    Hello,
I am continually receiving an error message after trying to update 3 new songs purchased via your music store. Teh error says H:/ipod_control/itunes/Tempfile1 and it mentions that the file is corrupt and unreadable. It recommends I do chkdsk utility but it won't let me due to the corrupt file on my Ipod. Due to this error, I am unable to load new songs. I have had my ipod for over 1 yr now, without major problems and it worked fine yesterday. Can I just delete the file from my ipod?
    I would appreciate any suggestions,
    best,
    ~jennifer

Welcome to Discussions Jennifer. Assuming you already have your music safely on your PC, follow this link on how to restore the iPod http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
This procedure will erase everything on your iPod, and allow you to start again, returning your iPod to how it was when new (excluding battery performance, which reduces over time).

  • Keep getting message to install iTunes

I keep getting the screen that I need to install iTunes, but I have installed it.  What do I need to do?

    Hi, diesel vdub,
Thank you for responding to my question!
In an email I received, I was given a download code for a particular movie.  The email says that I have to access the movie from that particular email.  When I click on that code, I am directed to an iTunes' webpage.  On that webpage, it says that I have to download iTunes first.  http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/
I downloaded iTunes.  I went back to the email I received and clicked on the movie code.  It continued to take me to the webpage that says I have to download iTunes first.  Thinking that I had to access the movie through that original email I received (because that's what the email said), I continued to click on the code and in turn kept being directed to iTunes' web page where it said I had to download the program first. SO frustrating.
I finally gave up, copied the code and went in search of some place on iTunes' website that would allow me to paste the code.  And that's how I finally circumvented the command that I had to download iTunes first.
I'm not sure what version I installed, but it's the latest version available.  I just downloaded iTunes to that particular computer yesterday, January 7, 2014.
Oh, and I finally found somewhere that said I had to 'authenticate' my computer, which I did.  But from that original email, I was still directed to iTunes' home page that said I had to download iTunes first.  I haven't tried it again since circumventing the original email, so I'm not sure if it will do it again.  I'm not at that particular computer right now, so I can't try again on that computer until later.
Sigh.  Can you tell I'm technologically challenged?
Thank you for your response.  I appreciate it.

  • Trying to synch my ipod and getting message that a file is corrupt and can't communicate.  Trying to restore ipod but nothing happens when I click on restore. What now?

After following all of the instructions in the help site I get the ipod to the Disc Mode but nothing happens when I click on restore. Help, my wife thinks I'm sabotaging her ipod.

When you have a compatible Numbers file in icloud (from Numbers on a mac), then when you invoke Numbers on a device, that file immediately shows up in the main window that lists all documents in Numbers.  (Same thing for Pages.)
I haven't used Numbers, only Pages, so I just made a test.  Created a Numbers file on the mac and "move to" iCloud.  On my iPhone, the file didn't show up - hmm.  Then I remembered I had turned off wifi and in settings have 3G data for documents turned off.  When I turned on wifi and went back to Numbers, the file appeared.
I suspect you need to import the Excel file into Numbers and then save it as a Numbers file to iCloud, using "move to".

  • Itune.exe -Corrupt File message

I have an Ipod Nano which has been working fine for a long while.
Today for no apparent reason, I got I got the following error message when I attached the ipod to the usb wire:
    "itune.exe-corrupt file
ipod_control/iTune/iTunesPrefs is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility."
In addition, I also get the Ipod Set Assistant dialog box each time I plug in the ipod as if it were the very first time plugging it in.
I tried rebooting the computer (several times) and I also tried reinstalling the itunes software cd and still get the same message and same problem.
Any ideas on how I can solve this problem. It is pretty upsetting
