That's not a valid path. You must have tampered with the system, or used some kind of "utility" that did. You should do a clean reinstallation of the OS after backing up your data and erasing the boot volume. Be sure not to restore whatever that is.

I received this error message: The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/ACard6280ATA.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling ... . What is this about? What is ACard6280ATA.kext?
I'm still with you, just having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that you reinstalled OS X, which is like shooting a mosquito with a cruise missile, yet the problem remains.
Here is the KB article for your review: Reinstalling Mac OS X
Admittedly there is not much to it, but it should have eradicated the problem.
I would guess that the 17 "hp_" messages have something to do with Hewlett-Packard and in fact I do use an HP printer with the computer. I uninstalled the printer software and reinstalled it. The printer seems to work fine, but the kernel extension error messages still keep appearing. I'm inclined just to delete these 17 kernel extensions and then, if the printer doesn't work correctly, unintall and reinstall the printer software again. Sound sensible?
It certainly does. The only thing I can think of is that the OS reinstallation did not recognize those kernel extensions and left them untouched, AND the HP uninstaller did not remove them, AND the HP installer did not perform correctly. Having suffered through several HP botched software attempts I tend to believe that remains a posssibility.
If you are so inclined, I would remove the troublesome .kext files as you say, then reboot. Be prepared for the printer to stop working, but once you remove them try the printer again anyway. The vast majority of printers do not require any specific downloads since their drivers are already built into OS X.
As a last resort try reinstalling OS X again (I know...) and run Software Update to bring everything up to date. Apple released some new printer drivers a few weeks ago.
Finally, if this doesn't work post the same question as a new topic since I am out of ideas. A new topic will get more attention than unresolved questions with responses. -

Received following message during installation of an iTunes update today (9/16/14): System extension cannot be used. The system extension “//System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update. What is to be done about it?
Thanks for the reply. I'm not experienced in the inner workings of the iMac system and its programs, so please follow my train of thought as I try to find and understand your reply.
You wrote that I should check out "Please see - AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext error on installing iTunes update" and I did so.
There I found your reply of 9/1014 7:06 PM to j'ski stating: "There is a larger thread here which you may want to follow - system extension cannot be used AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext ."
And an earlier Post by Greg Earle of 9/10/14 5:57 PM stating: " You would have been better off doing open /System/Library/Extensions and then finding the AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext kernel extension icon in the Finder window that came up and moving it to the Trash."
And a subsequent Post on 9/15/14 at 2:59 PM by Rob Maurer stating: "This method worked perfectly for me. I am on a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion. Dragged the kext file to trash (I use EasyFind. Found the file, Revealed in Finder, dragged to Trash, entered admin password when requested). Downloaded iTunes 11.4 from the website. Installed from that download. Checked for that kext file in EasyFind again and found it had a creation date of 7/29/14 (the trashed one had a creation date from 2009). No more error messages. ITunes opens fine. Everything good. Will not update on my MacBook Pro until they fix this issue.
All of which leave me wondering - what is your answer/recommendation? Do I drag the kext file to trash, download iTunes 11.4 from the website and install it from that download, check for that kext file again to see if it has a later date than the initial one? And, if so, seed if iTunes opens okay or not? And if so, do not update iTunes again until Apple fixes whatever is wrong? -
I get this message often when updating things. I have told Small Dog Computer where I buy my stuff, and they didn't have an answer. Thanks in advance.
What does this mean? ... System extension cannot be used ... The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.Interesting ... thank you! Actually I had that external drive, Western Digital, a while back on my second last? or third last? laptop ... the external drive died with a slew of pictures I had carefully uploaded to it :-(
I won't worry about it anymore :-)
sorry you got only 5 points, can't figure how to give you 10 points. -
Hopefully, i can get some help in resloving the issue below. i updated my harddrive at Techserve and have been getting this message evertime i try to install a new software. Help...
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update. That is a third-party extension, so I would reinstall that software unless you wish to try repairing the permissions on the extension yourself using the Terminal.

I keep receiving this message, "The system extension “//System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update." How do I do it, please?
I couldn't find the extension to get rid of it.
In the Finder, follow the path given above: "System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" -
Was updating at the App Store - Safari, iTunes, iWorks 09 and prior to that had updated something at Adobe's website. Then this error message popped up:
“//System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.
(I just received a refurbished computer with a new hard drive from a local Apple repair store...
Is this an easy fix. Thanks, CharlotteWhat I ended up doing is a reinstall the OS.
There was an important component I forgot to mention...my hard drive had crashed and I had it replaced. When it was replaced - the old drive was copied to the new. Since the prior error messages I had gotten from MemTest and CheckMate kept saying Bad Blocks in the drive - it was suggested that the corrupt or missing data on these "bad blocks" had not copied or copied incorrectly.
So only time will tell if this fixed this error. (Don't have external hard drive so never had Time Machine set up to begin with.) Original computer was refurbished and believe some things weren't done right from the get go. Oh well... Hope I didn't lead anyone astray. -

While running the Software Updater, I encountered an error: "System Extension cannot be used" ... System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used. Can somebody help me resolve this error message. Would this error affect my ability to run FaceTime ?
Seems pretty clear to me. Here's what you can try:
Open Terminal in your Utilities folder. Paste the following at the prompt:
sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
Press RETURN. Enter admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed so type carefully. Press RETURN again.
Restart the computer. -
I have started getting this error every time I download anything to my computer. I want to know how to fix the issue so it dosen't happen anymore. The error is as follows:
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/IOBDStorageFamily.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.
Please help me.Darned drivers. Did you try using it without the drivers? They may already be in Mountain Lion. I'm super wary of vendor drivers for OS X; they're terrible and often an OS version out of date.
To re-install OS X, log into the Mac App Store, go to "purchased," re-download Mountain Lion, and double click "Install Mountain Lion" as you did the first time. You won't lose data (have a backup!) and an hour later you should be good to go.
After that, try using the printer WITHOUT installing the darned Lexmark drivers. -
What does this mean? What should I do?
The system extension “//System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update. You don't even have to type more than 8 letters:

When installing iPhoto 9.2.1 software update, I got this pop up.
"The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update."
Is this a minor matter that can be ignored? Any suggestions on what I should do?The faster (and way more recommended) way to do this is to run a permissions repair from disk utility.
Open Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility -> Click on Macintosh HD -> then in the right pane there is a "Repair Disk Permissions" button click on this. It should repair all permissions to their proper settings.
Another option is to manually repair them on this kext only. This involves opening Terminal and running the following commands.
sudo chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext
Otherwise if you don't have any firewire devices it doesn't really matter. -
Please help!
After installing iTunes 11.0.1 I got a splash screen that appears after all updates. The screen reads:
System extension cannot be used
"The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/PulseDriver.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update."
Question: How do I re-install or replace this file?
