Getting multiple versions when installing JRE 1.4.2_13

Hi,
For ColdFusion and DST, I downloaded the offline install of JRE 1.4.2_13. I installed it on several Windows servers (always exactly the same way, using exactly the same .exe file and installing it to a new dir named 1.4.2_13). When I went back and ran java -version, I got several different versions. I installed them all to the same place and ran the command from the folder that the new version had been installed to. I got-
1.4.2_13 (good)
1.3.1_01
1.4.2_03
Does anyone know why the variation? Some I even uninstalled and re-installed with no luck, I even threw in some reboots even if they weren't needed. Is this normal? I know that 1.4.2_13 is DST compliant, but are the other versions listed above?
Thanks,
Ishmeal

I doubt that the root cause is the modification of the file because of the following:
- I have a machine (XP) on which I downloaded j2sdk-1_4_2_09-windows-i586-p.exe and was able to run the install without issue.
- I then mounted a drive on a windows2003 machine and copied the same file to it, the file size was exactly the same. When I ran the install, I got the error "Error reading setup initialization file" and the button with no text.
- I searched through google and found this thread. I used pkzip to package the file and on the original platform, copied it to the 2003 machine and unzipped it. Once again, the same error showed up.
The explanation for the error provided in this thread is not plausible because:
- there are no firewalls/proxy in play in a file share
- the same thing happens when the install is transferred through a zip. Something would need to alter the zipped file in transit without corrupting the zip itself for this explanation to be valid. This is simply not plausible.
There is clearly something going on that has yet to be explained. An explanation of the problem and (even better) a workaround would be welcome.

  • How to get the Most RECENTLY installed JRE path and version ?

    Hello Experts,
I am working on Installshield, and for some purpose, I need to get the MOST RECENTLY installed JRE version and Path. Now I have two choices :
    1. Go into the directory " C:\Program Files\Java\" and get the most recently changed directory, ( that will be the installation directory of the most recently installed JRE ). And then search in the registry under : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/JavaSoft/Java Runtime Environment/ and look for the version which is having
the value of the key INSTALLDIR as the above found Installation Directory.
But in this approach, I'll never find the Installation dir or version, if the JRE is installed somewhere else than the default location.
    2. Now this is the reverse. I first search in the registry, and get the Installation Directories of all the versions installed in the system, and then look at the file attributes ( may be by using some batch file ) and see which one is most recently installed.
My question is, is there any other way, by which I can get the most recently installed JRE's installation Path and version? Or can we trace it during the installation itself ? I mean when we install the JRE, it creates some log files in %TEMP% directory. Is it possible to trace the version and installation directory of the most recently installed JRE from the log file ?
    Thanks
    Gagan

Rendering times are pretty much based on processor speed if I have that right. Not much you can do about that other than buy a new computer. Your day to day work in the finder and accessing of files would be faster with your boot drive internal. One thing you can do is ensure your FCP System Settings are on the fastest disk you have. If you put a pair of drives internal and made a RAID volume for them you would improve your write speed when capturing and for any other read/write operations. You would have to be sure you kept that backed up properly because you double the odds of a failure when two drives spread the data between them. There are many RAID options.
You could also bump up the RAM but you'd have to look at your processes to see if you are being limited by RAM. I'm guessing not but it's not impossible. If you are accessing scratch disks due to RAM limitations that would be one thing you could do.
I would never bother connecting an external via USB if there was an esata or firewire option. I use an esata card internally to give me access to estata storage. I also keep an external FW800 drive for a mirror backup of my boot drive. All my data and booting is internal with all my backups external. Each internal has an external and I have additional externals that I keep off site to protect against fire and theft.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Ravi,
Yes, I have java run time on my machine and I'm in a Windows XP SP2 environment. Also note that I'm installing BI Publisher Desktop for 10.1.3.2 and I have all the prerequisites installed prior to the Publisher Desktop installation.
The exact error message for the BI Publisher Desktop is:

  • Will re-install of System Solve "Getting "try again" when installing..."

Have yet to solve "Getting "try again" when installing software..." posted yesterday. Also note inability to perform Safe Boot. Will re-installation of System software (Tiger) restore the functions lost?
If I'm obliged to do this, any tips on how to: 1) preserve my Internet settings, including Bookmarks; 2)saved (not yet deleted) emails; and (3) my Address book? Where are they? how do I identify these files? Can I do some sort of backup before I go to Install?

For the convenience of others, here is the list to the other topic:

The basic problem appears to be disk directory corruption. It is very unlikely reinstalling the OS will cure that since you also appear to want to preserve all your files. In fact, reinstalling the OS might create more damage to your files since the computer has lost track of some of them and might just overwrite them not knowing they are there.
You either need to try to repair the directory using Diskwarrior (since DU apparently failed), or you need to wipe the drive (and all your files) then reinstall your OS. If doing the second option you should, of course, back up your data files first. However I can't help but feel when people mention backing up a damaged directory that your backups may be incomplete since, again, the computer has lost track of some parts of the files and may not make a complete copy. If I was in your situation, and could afford it, I'd go for getting a copy of Diskwarrior so you can actually repair your drive. If I couldn't afford it I would back up my data files, wipe the drive, then reinstall everything again from scratch, then copy the data files back on and keep my fingers crossed that none of them was part of the corruption.

    Hi,
First make sure that you are installing the software as an Administrator so that you have access to all the registries. Now, if logged in as an Administrator and you are still having this error, check the following link.
How Do I Install LabVIEW if I Receive an Error During the Installation?
This document is valid for any software that installs from a CD. Basically is copying the content of the CD into the Hard Disk and running the install from the HD.
If that doesn't fix the problem then try installing the driver in a different machine just to make sure that it is not the software in the CD that is corrupted. If it is corrupted then you can
download the driver from the GPIB Drivers page.
Make sure that every time you want to install or reinstall the driver, that you uninstall the previous version and reboot the computer before installing the new one.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why am I getting multiple versions of the same page showing in the Back (and Forward) buttons?

I had this problem with Firefox 4.x -- and I just upgraded to FF5, but the issue still exists.
What happens is, when I've surfed to more than one page (or site) on a tab, then want to go back, I find that my Back button history often has multiple versions of the most recent page loaded, so that when I press the Back button once, it does nothing. Instead, I have to hold the button to display all of that tab's recent history, in order to return to the page that immediately preceded the current page.
Could this be an issue with a plugin, that's loading the page multiple times, or something? It's certainly an annoyance.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide!

Yeah, it's keeping all the history -- better than deleting it, I suppose -- but I'd rather not have to hit that button numerous times.
Here's an example -- I just tried this moments ago.
    * I just opened a new tab.
    * Typed imdb.com in the address bar.
    * Clicked on a NewsDesk story: Jon Hamm Locks In 'Mad Men' for 3 Years
    URL: http://www.imdb.com/news/ni11982605/
    * Then clicked on Jon Hamm's name.
    URL: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0358316/
(And come to think of it, IMDb seems to be where I notice this happening the most frequently.)
So the back button just reloads the Jon Hamm profile page again, and ditto when I finally page back to the news story page (takes me two clicks of the back button to go to the page before it).
Odd thing, when I repeated this process -- without opening a new tab -- now I have FOUR of the news story pages in the drop down from the Back/Forward buttons, but TWO of the Jon Hamm profile pages.
Ah, here's an interesting thing -- every time I go to a new page (Hamm's bio, for instance), then go back, there is suddenly one more instance of the previous page.
I've seen literally DOZENS of instances of one page loaded up in this Back/Forward drop-down history. Not the ideal situation, obviously. ;-)
See screen capture below, if that helps.
    Thanks again!

  • Getting invalid packages when installing support for stored java objects

I am getting invalid packages notices when installing support for stored java objects in Forms 9i that can with the Oracle 9iDS Suite. In the post installation notes it says to locate a few SQL files, PLB files and a JAR file and run them. On executing the SQL package that will install the rest , I am logged in as SYSTEM as the instructions stated, I get an error when it tries to load the PLB files ( which are encrypted from Oracle). Any one else have this problem or know of a solution?
If you need more information please let me know and I will try to respond promptly.
    Thanks
    Chad Leath

The PLB package is called ORA_DE_REFLECTION. I forgot to mention this in the previous post.

  • Get red error when installing Vendor number (purchasing view) - 0VEN_PURORG

On BW 3.5, when installing Business Content of the InfoObject 0VEN_PURORG (Vendor number (purchasing view)), get the following red error:
    "Mapping between 0BPARTNER_ATTR R3_System_Name 0BPARTNER_ATTR is inconsistent"
What does that mean and how to have it fixed?  Even if the red error shows up during the installing, but I can still use RSD1 to modify it though.
    Thanks

    Kevin,
Try using 'Only Necessary objects' option and try. If the '0BPARTNER' attribute is not directly related to
'0VEN_PURORG' Info object, you should be fine.
    Thanks

the message is : "SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'close' to terminate the application.

Do you know what can be the reason and how can I solve it ?

Try to stop the antivirus program before you install the jre.
If stopping the program does not help, try to change the registry data to nothing (do not delete it.) NOTE: Backup the registry key first.

  • Getting multiple versions of photos in Apple TV

When setting up Aperture albums by iTunes I get all versions of the same photo in Apple TV. How to get just the picked one?

Unlike slideshows which stream the photos from your computer, the screensaver uses photos that are stored locally on your Apple TV. The Apple TV only has a limited storage and therefore the number of photos available for screensaver are restricted. The number of photos that can be used by screen saver is dictated by the size of the photo (resolution), having smaller photos will enable screensaver to use more of them.
