Getting music back onto iTunes?

I just had to wipe out my computer becuase i was having memory problems. I was wondering if there are any tools that i can use to get my music from my iPod back onto my computer? I remember reading something a while back with a person who had the same problem but i cannot seem to find the topic. If anyone can help me, i would really appreciate it. I can't live without my music.
ps: Will the program put my videos back on, too?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would , relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Looking back I think what I've done may be stupid. I've got a Powerbook G4 with 20G of space. So what I had been doing is burning my CD's onto iTunes, getting them onto my 20G iPod and then deleting them from iTunes. I was doing this so I could minimize the songs on iTunes (saving space theoretically) and keep them on the iPod instead. I got an external hard drive for Christmas, but now I can't get them back onto iTunes from my iPod (or onto the external hd for that matter). Any suggestions or am I toast? I have 1200 songs on my iPod so I'd hate to re-rip them all back onto iTunes from scratch.

There is many way to copy your muis back to your iTunes, my suggestion is to pick one of the following 3rd party software to do the copy..

All of our music was removed from our itunes because my husband moved them to an external HD and it got all messed up. I tried to sinc my music back onto my itunes and only the perchased songs were put back on it. Can I get all my music back on my itunes? How do you get music back into iTunes?

I know that if you delete a song from iTunes, it still stays on your computer, just not in iTunes. Since I have Windows, the deleted songs still stay as a Quicktime file in my documents/my music/itunes. I accidentily deleted "complilations" which had around 50 songs on it... but was weird was it didnt ask me if i wanted to delete the artist, it just did it. but other then burning the songs to a CD and uploading them again, does anybody know a way to get them back to itunes? Getting music back onto my computer after it crashed. Using same computer.

My current computer caught a virus of some sort. It erased almost the entire memory. Needless to say, my Itunes library was erased. I still have all of my music on my ipod. I am simply trying to put that music back onto the same computer. I have downloaded Itunes 10 and I thought I was ready to simply sync and the music would appear on my computer. That isn't the case. I need help putting the music back into my Itunes on my rebuilt computer. Any suggestions?

I'm going to assume that you never backed up any of the music on your iTunes library to an external source and that you weren't running any current antivirus software.
Might I suggest you purchase a Mac Mini with an external hard drive? Then you could use Time Machine to back up and wouldn't need the antivirus software.
But in the meantime, also assuming the music on the iPod was not purchased from the iTunes Store, download and install YamiPod from here: http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/ then follow the instructions.

I recently wiped out my computer to fix a win 7 upgrade issue --it wasnt reading my sound card thus sykpe not working. i reinstalled all factory back up discs and works great. about to have a meltdown tho because all of my music on my ipod does not go "back into" itunes. i transferred purchases so have those but a years worth of work installing my and daughters cd collections are not.....when i first got a new computer i wiped it all out before (because i synced it to the empty itunes,,,,i thought as long as i didnt do that i'd be ok.} i said then i'd never go thru this again, but i did, i built it all back up and now im scared to death i lost it all again. it is still all on my ipod. i have back up discs from computer but dont want to load those because im afraid i'll load the problems from the program back on. is there really no way to ever get my music back on computer. i tried a download program with no luck. will new music sync on it? You will need third-party software to transfer your content from your iPod back into iTunes. There are many such utilities, so if the one you tried didn't work, try something else. Check out this post from Zevoneer for some media recovery options:

Before i restored my laptop back to original default settings, i saved an itunes folder onto a external hardrive, thinking that i wouldnt need to re-install it etc. But it wasnt working, so im downloading itunes again now...but how do i get all my music back into my itunes library. The music is still on my ipod. Do i need to plug my ipod in or will that erase all my music on my ipod?! Stressing out! Please help!

Quit iTunes.
Copy the entire /iTunes/ folder from you external to /My Music/ folder on your computer.
That is all you need to do.

As long as all the music you expect to be on the device after a sync/update is still in your iTunes library on the computer, it should be easy to resolve your conundrum. Navigate to the MUSIC tab of the iTunes sync preference screens and make sure the box to 'Sync Music' is checked along with any other preferences you may need to set to sync the music you want back on the device. Also, make sure you know if you have either the 'Manually Manage' or 'Sync Only Checked Songs And Videos' boxes checked on the SUMMARY tab of the sync preference screens because that affects how you decide what music you are syncing back to the device. You can get to the sync preference screens by clicking on the name of your device along the left hand side of the iTunes window when your device is connected to the computer. Hope that helps !

My computer crashed, and I had to get a new hard drive. I was able to save all of my music on cd, and it is all still currently on my Ipod. If you are using the iPod in manual update mode it is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
While you can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, if you want to check this out, there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes

Computer Crashed Can't get music back onto fixed computer

My computer crashed and I hadn't backed my music up to a disk. I got my computer fixed but they had to erase everything. When I went to transfer it back on usuing my iPod like the support page says a window pops up and tells me that my library can only be synced to one itunes library. is there anything i can do? i had $100+ in downloads.

Any music purchased through the iTunes store can be downloaded again for free as long as you are signed in with the Apple ID you used for the original purchase. Any other music you had in iTunes should be easily accessible in your system back up or from the CDs you ripped from originally.

I've just had a bit of a disaster. My main (internal) HDD became corrupted and I was forced to format, losing all my data.
Not too much of a problem, as my iTunes library was stored on an external concatenated RAID. I did, however, lose the two files in the default Music folder -- the XML one and one other (I forget what it's called, But I know it's important!).
No matter -- I don't really care about ratings, playcounts, etc. What I want to do, however, now that I've reinstalled and get everything up to date, is point iTunes at the external drive, get it to recognise the songs, movies, etc, and rebuild it's library. However, I don't want to copy the files -- I don't have another external drive and there's not enough room on the RAID for two copies of everything, even temporarily...
Hope I've explained this okay. In a nutshell -- how to point iTunes at my song files and get it to recognise them?
(I want iTunes to automatically organise my music, I don't want to do it manually).
It is imperative that iTunes does not destroy these files -- I don't have a backup and won't have one until i can afford more HDD space in a few weeks time... (dangerous, I know...)

Set the iTunes music folder to the location where your music is now.
Then File -> *Add to library*.

Okay so my dad keeps refusing to get a new computer, or a separate laptop for me. Iritatingly, it continues to crash so severely that the hardrive has been wiped clean and restored at least 4 times. Ridiculous. Luckily, I was able to save my library from 9/4/11 on an external drive, but i have no idea how to get it back onto itunes now. Seriously, its a problem because my actual ipod was stolen, ergo i cannot load it from that. What do i do.

This question has to do with how to restore your computer drive if you backed up the computer to an external drive. Did you use backup software or did you just copy the data from the old computer to the new computer? If you just copied, then you need to just copy over the Music folder which should contain the iTunes folder.

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
