Getting music back onto my computer after it crashed. Using same computer.

My current computer caught a virus of some sort. It erased almost the entire memory. Needless to say, my Itunes library was erased. I still have all of my music on my ipod. I am simply trying to put that music back onto the same computer. I have downloaded Itunes 10 and I thought I was ready to simply sync and the music would appear on my computer. That isn't the case. I need help putting the music back into my Itunes on my rebuilt computer. Any suggestions?

I'm going to assume that you never backed up any of the music on your iTunes library to an external source and that you weren't running any current antivirus software.
Might I suggest you purchase a Mac Mini with an external hard drive? Then you could use Time Machine to back up and wouldn't need the antivirus software.
But in the meantime, also assuming the music on the iPod was not purchased from the iTunes Store, download and install YamiPod from here: http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/ then follow the instructions.

As long as all the music you expect to be on the device after a sync/update is still in your iTunes library on the computer, it should be easy to resolve your conundrum. Navigate to the MUSIC tab of the iTunes sync preference screens and make sure the box to 'Sync Music' is checked along with any other preferences you may need to set to sync the music you want back on the device. Also, make sure you know if you have either the 'Manually Manage' or 'Sync Only Checked Songs And Videos' boxes checked on the SUMMARY tab of the sync preference screens because that affects how you decide what music you are syncing back to the device. You can get to the sync preference screens by clicking on the name of your device along the left hand side of the iTunes window when your device is connected to the computer. Hope that helps !

I just had to wipe out my computer becuase i was having memory problems. I was wondering if there are any tools that i can use to get my music from my iPod back onto my computer? I remember reading something a while back with a person who had the same problem but i cannot seem to find the topic. If anyone can help me, i would really appreciate it. I can't live without my music.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would , relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

When I went to transfer it back on usuing my iPod like the support page says a window pops up and tells me that my library can only be synced to one itunes library. is there anything i can do? i had $100+ in downloads.

If the shows are in fact still on the pad, they will be found in the videos app, not the music or I tunes app. Look there and see if they are still there.
If you don't see them there, go to the searchlight screen ( farthest left home page) and type in the name of one of the shows. If it is on the pad, hiding somewhere, this will find it.
If they are not there, they should not be using up space.
To get them back onto your pad, plug in and sync again. Make sure you transfer purchases first. Before you sync, take a look at the video tab in your I tunes, and check what you want and don't want synced.

Hey been there, done that. I moved my music to another external drive and accidentally deleted too much in the process. So the songs are still in iTunes but the Mac can't find them. Not surprisingly.
iCloud and Match are useless as iCloud says about all my songs on the Mac: "Downloaded". What a big help. Transfer purchases didn't work. Not via the iPhone, not via the iPad.
I tried various fixes and loads of software but the first thing that has actually worked is Touchcopy12 for Mac. Sporting a brand-new 2013 Mini now, I tried one song first and when it worked (eureka!) I purchased the software and it's now copying 1800 songs to my external hard drive, right from my iPhone 5.
Not that it was the end of the world but it's nice to have your music when you're at the computer.

Okay. I hope I can remeber all my steps exactly because I fixed my own problem...with absolutely no help from Apple. I opened itunes. I connected my ipod touch to my computer. On my itunes page that shows my songs in the upper right side under the search library box there is an itunes button and since I am connected there is an ipod button. DO NOT CLICK THE ARROW in the ipod button...just click in the mail part of the button. On mine it opened to a summary page that gave info on my ipod. The menu bar has Summary, Apps, Tones, Music and more. I clicked on the Music button. I chose to Sync the entire music library. That replaced what was on my ipod but what was on there was going to be put back on so I was okay with it. I then clicked the Sync button on the lower right side and it sync'd and all my songs are on my ipod again. I hope this might help someone else. Good luck.

If the music was RIP'd from CD, then the fastest way is to restore from your backup.
Since it sounds like you did not have a backup, you will need to reRIP them from your CDs. Nothing else you can do.
iTunes purchases you can redownload. Open iTunes, go to the store, click on Purchases on the right side under Quick links.
Then tell the tech who formatted it for you without making a backup or making sure teat YOU made a backup that his rear end has a vacancy sign and your foot is looking for a place to rent.
and you should make a backup right now of your computer and update teh backup after you RIP all the CDs.
And make it a regualr practice, like weekly, depending on how much you want to lose.

If the apps are not on your computer's iTunes (did you do File > Transfer Purchases prior to starting the update ?), then you could try downloading them to your computer (re-downloading) and then restoring to your backup and see if that restores them and their settings/content - a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings, so for the restore to work fully iTunes needs access to the apps so that it can restore them.

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.
