Getting music off of ipod

Hi! My computer recently crashed and i lost all my music and i can not seem to find the cd i burned with all my music. I have been dying to update my ipod, but I am afraid I will loose all of my music already on there. My question, is there anyway i can get the music off my ipod onto my computer? And if so, how do I need to congfigure itunes to put my old music and my new music back on to my ipod. Please be kind, for i am not the smartest person when it comes to how ipods work.

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

My computer crashed and the hard drive had to be replaced. I foolishly didn't have any of my music backed up. I have all my music and movies still on my Ipod Touch. A while back, I had a hard drive fail which was storing all my music to sync to the iPod. Now, I have the music on the iPod, but need to get it back into iTunes, without iTunes deleting the music upon sync.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. The media should already exist in iTunes on the computer.
iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
That being said, if for some silly reason the media is not in iTunes and you have chosen to not maintain a backup of the library, iTunes purchases can be transferred from an iDevice to iTunes.
Connect the device, right click on the device and select "Transfer Purchases".

In need of help to get music off my ipod back onto new computer

There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

My PC crashed and i lost all my Music (thousands of songs). I didn't back the music up, but it is all on my Ipod - is there anyway to take music from my Ipod and put it onto my PC??? Is there an accessory/piece of software that will allow me to do this.
Help is needed very badly!!!!! A confirmation that there is no way to transfer the music back would be just as welcome as a way to do so - I just want know wether it is or isn't possible.

The ipod is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You should copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

My old laptop had a itunes downloaded on it, but I recently got a new laptop and i just downloaded itunes onto the new laptop. The problem I am facing is that I can not figure out how to get the music i already have on my ipod onto the itunes i just downloaded. HELP

You are having problems because iTunes is not designed to work that way. Syncing is one way, computer to device. Copy the whole iTunes folder from your old laptop or your backup (you do have one, don't you?) to the same location on the new one. If you no longer have the old laptop you will have to use third party software to copy just media files, then rebuild all yoru playlists, ratings, playcounts, etc. by hand.
Any items you purchased from Apple can be downloaded to iTunes from the iTunes store again, if that feature is available in your ocuntry.
