Getting My Creative Zen Micro to play on my P.

Hello,
I have a few questions about getting my Zen Micro to play in the 'Creative Source Organizer' that I installed with the software CD that came with it.
It playes fine in the 'Media Explorer', in which I use to upload and delete songs from my player, but it won't play at all in the 'Organizer'. The files show up, and the songs show they are playing, but no music comes from the speakers. I would rather use the organizer to play songs from my Zen Micro, and not the 'Media Explorer'. Is there anything I can do to get this to work? Every other file I try, be it a CD or MP3 from my hard dri've, works fine.
I am using Windows 98 as my operating system. I do hope this is not the reason why, but it is my guess that it is.
Thanks in advance to those who can help.

• Creative Zen Micro: Headphone Ja

Hi! I was thinking of getting a Creative Zen Micro for my fiancee this Christmas, but the problem I keep reading about in reviews is how the headphone jack keeps messing up. It's a shame since we're both anti-iPods and were thinking of better alternati'ves to use. Does anyone know if this problem has been fixed for the newer Zen Micros? If so, is there any way to tell if a Zen Micro is of the newer fixed version, or the old? I really wouldn't want to get her something that breaks two months down the road, but if it wasn't for this problem the Zens are looking pretty slick.

Well, if it were for myself I wouldn't mind taking a risk, but it's not.. and for over $200 I'd rather get her a product that works, even if I have to pay a little more for it. :/ Does anyone know for sure? I've heard a lot of rumors that it has been fixed, with nothing to confirm it but people hoping their 3rd Micro replacement won't fizzle out, but I figure I might get a real answer by posting on the Creative forum.

• Creative Zen Micro St

Hello. I am going to get a Creative Zen Micro off of the offical www.Creative.com website. I was just wondering, are Zen Micros discontiued? The reason I ask this is because my mom said I can't buy a Creative Zen Micro until December comes around. I was just wondering if they will still be selling Zen Micros then.

Yes, I believe the Zen Micros will still be in stock in December. I don't know that the ZMP is selling as well as Creative had hoped for. It's got a lot of beginner problems. There's a good chance you'll still be able to get a ZM from Creative's website...not sure about retail though, they might be in short supply in stores because of the season. Creative's website is probably your best bet to ensure that you get the color you want.

• Creative Zen Micro and Podcast

I want to subscribe to a series of National Public Radio podcasts on a tool (maybe iTunes but I don't think the Creative Zen Micro works with iTunes) and be able to easily sync these onto my player. I have a Creative Zen Micro about a year old (or more?).
Does anyone subscribe and download podcasts to the Zen Micro that can post a How To? I open the Creative MediaSource Tool and can see the podcasts I want to sync to my mp3 in the "now playing" window but don't know how to get them to upload to the mp3.
Thanks for any help.

• Is the Creative zen micro a good bye or a bad

I heard alot of horror stories about creative zen micros freezing and the headphone jacks are not working so I want ask your opinion is the creative zen micro a good bye or a cheap urelieable mp3 player. I love the design and the colors and the extra features but is the player relieable or nice to look at but really senseti've. If buying the creative zen is going to be this big investment then maybe i should get an ipod its just the ipod seems so less in comparison. Please reply so that i might have a greater understanding on what to buy.

I agree with Kerndrone. People come here mostly to look for solutions to their problems. This constitutes a lot to the negati've talk. Also, how many would purposely come into a forum just to praise a player?
ipods aren't great either. I feel that they are just an overpriced piece of gadget with very few features - whatever the zen has, the ipods doesn't (i.e. FM radio/recorder,voice recorder, simple organiser) .On the other hand, whatever the ipod has, the zen also has (with the exception of games, which i think is dumb. An audio player, as its name suggests, it for the purpose of AUDIO, some SIMPLE games? it's so dumb, i'll rather play my mobile phone's, which has color, and nicer to view.)
Further, the Zen comes with much more accessories than the ipods - velvet pouch, craddle + stand + belt clip + charger + USB cable + earphones. ipods don't come with chargers, i think. The charger is pretty expensi've S$69, and the earphones cost S$49 if bought separately.

• Creative Zen Micro... What could it

Hello,
When I tried to update my creative zen micro to the firmware version 2.2, the program froze, and I was forced to close it while the screen was stuck at "Player rebooting... please wait...". Now, when I hook my player to my computer, my computer recognizes it as a portable device under Device Manager named "Creative Zen Micro" and it is recognized in My Computer. When I right click and hit properties on the icon in My Computer it says Firmware Version: 2.2. But when I double click it says it only has a 20 MB space when this player is 5 GB. When I turn my Zen Micro on, the player quickly flashes to "Firmware Problem" before proceeding to the Recovery Mode Screen. Now, each selection in the Recovery Mode works. But, where I'm stuck is when I go into the (latest) version of the Zen Micro explorer, it tells me to connect my device. Also, when I try to downgrade my firmware or run any Creative software that requires the device to be detected, it can't detect it. This is quite odd, considering windows detects it under Portable Devices just fine.
-I reinstalled all the original software, still no go
-I reinstalled the original software and upgraded to the latest manually, still no go
-I reinstalled all my USB port drivers, still no go
-I cleaned and formatted the player under Recovery Mode, still no go
All I need to do is downgrade my firmware to a non Plays-for-Sure (since it is the version of installation that failed). But, I just can't get the Creative programs to detect my player.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jason

Alas!
I got it to work!
Here's how I fixed it ( in case anyone else has this problem )
-I connected the player to another computer in the house.
DO NOT connect the player to a front of the case USB port because the computer had trouble using the player in that port, connect it DIRECTLY to the motherboard in the back of your computer.
-I installed the software.
Note: The computer did NOT have a previous version of the software installed at all, ever.
My laptop and desktop could not recognize my player properly, but they DID have the player installed previously on both of them. (But it also could be because they both have Creative Sound Card software installed, you never know)
-Zen explorer did NOT detect my player, so I ran the firmware update ( in my case downgrade to . ) installation and VOILAH! It detected my player fine and downgraded it successfully.

• Creative Zen micro: "Firmware Problem&qu

hey, i have a Creative zen micro (orange, 6gb but i think it doesent matters"), but when i turn it on, it says "Firmware problem".
and it goes to the menu (think is called Recovery menu) and it shows:
Creative Zen Micro V0.0.65
1.Clean Up
2.Format all
3.Reload frimware
4.Reboot
now creative tells me to download a new firmware.
i did.
then to "RELOAD FIRMWARE"
and click on the upgrade, but then it says that there is no player connected, and my compuer does recognize it.
is there any way to fix this or is my zen busted?

I had a simalar problem with my Zen xtra, if it failed durng a firmware update and its stuck in recue mode try this:
Remove all creative software and drivers from your P.C
remove windows media player and media player runtime ( from control panel/add/remove programs - if you have them listed there) you should see it go through a rollbackl procedure to an earlier version of wiondows media player.
Downlaod the latest firmware for your player
Re-boot/re start your P.C
Go to the creative support website, and download the plays for sure software suite
listed as:
. Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8)3.98 MB 28 Apr 05
install the software by clicking on it.
RE-boot your P.C, with your player conected via USB
once your P.C re-starts, go to the location where the firmware was downloaded to and get ready to start the upgrade
Copnnect your player to its charger ( unless it charges via USB)
On your player slect the reload OS option in the rescue menu
When prompted by your player start the firmware update on your PC.
with the Zen xtra firmware you had/need to select the language option in the update on the P.C when the p[layer displays the 'update over USB' message.

• Creative Zen Micro - Please He

I bought a Creative Zen Micro in January 2005 in Singapore. For a while it worked great, but then it just went faulty. Whenever I would try to turn it on it would freeze at the CREATIVE screen. Then after a while, I managed to fix that problem but then when I turned it on every time it would have to re-build the library, and then when it was re-built it went to one of my songs, and no buttons could be pressed, so the song couldn't be changed, or even start/stop, the volume couldn't change - even though no song would play and I definitely couldn't get back to the menu. I have been searching my Zen Micro for the reset button but can't find it. I am in Australia and I was just wondering if these problems could be fixed.

I have the same problem with my zen it freezes at the screen i was wondering how you fixed the problem.

• Creative Zen Micro, Blank Scre

I purchased a Creative Zen Micro about 9 months ago. In the last maybe 3-4 months it's been randomly not showing a screen. It still plays music and i can still press the buttons, but the screen is blank. It didn't bother me that much because I could still figure out how to change it to another artist and all that. The screen would also randomly show up when I turned it on sometimes so it wasn't a big deal.
Now it's been a few weeks without a screen. I still wouldn't mind, except for the fact that it's somehow stuck in a list of about 5 random songs that it plays over and over. (And not my favorites haha) So yeah i'm getting pretty sick of it. I cant seem to figure out how to change the songs, or get the screen back. I've tried resetting by taking out the battery, and I'd assume if it were a battery problem then it just wouldnt work right?.. And I cant get into the recovery mode either without a screen. So can anyone help me with this? or should I talk to Creative about it ? Thanks!

Try starting the player into Recovery Mode, see if that works:
Ensure that the Zen Micro is turned off.
Remove the battery.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue mode appears.
The following options will be displayed:
) Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the players harddisk)
2) Format All (Formats the players harddisk - Note: all contents will be lost)
3) Reload OS (Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Note: Reloading your OS, will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Zen Micro) Caution: Do not select this option until a firmware update has been downloaded onto the PC
4) Reboot (Reboots the device).
If you can get into Recovery Mode, try the Clean Up first.

• Creative Zen Micro (Startup Failure) Need URGENT he

Hi, i was on holiday in Singapore about 2 weeks ago, and i bought myself a Creative Zen Micro from one of the local sho
ps.
It worked fine, music played brilliantly, i was happy. However, today when i turned it on, it would display the 'CREATIVE COPYRIGHT' Screen, then followed by 'CREATIVE' in large letters across the screen. It would then freeze on this screen, and the off/on button would soon become useless, which meant that i could either leave it on and kill the battery, or take it out.
When i took the battery out and in again, it would repeat with the 'CREATIVE' sign. Following the 'recovery' methods, i managed to load the screen with all the different options such as clean-up, etc etc. However, when i load any of them up, it would freeze once again and i would end up taking the battery out again.
I have tried the reset button with a pin but that doesnt do anything. I have a spare battery that does exactly the same too. My computer doesnt detect the Zen btw.
I have important documents and almost my lifetime's supply of music that took me almost weeks to rip and store into that Zen. Now that its basically dead, and i bought it in Singapore, i have basically no warranty, i feel as if i have been throwing cases of money into the toilet. I need urgent help, if theres any other ways of restoring access to my Zen.
Check the reviews on a respectable site like amazon.com: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Zen-Micro-6GB-Player/dp/B000AMR76S
After browsing around forums over the internet, I have found many other people complaining about this, which makes it a MAJOR flaw in the Creative Zens. Screw petty chargers and plugs, get the software right.

The problem you have is very simple, yet complicated to be solved. Your zen's hard dri've is dead. Most of the people who own a zen don't know it has a hard dri've inside. Some mp3 players have flash memory. Chances are that you've dropped your mp3 player. Zen's hard dri'ves are very sensiti've and must not be moved around too much. The way to go in this case is to replace the hard dri've. It is actually a micro hard dri've what you need. Seagate ST 5GB MicroDri've CF Type II. Once you have a new Hd installed you can format it using the zen's menu (remove the battery, hold the power button, place the battery in and wait untill you see the menu) This requires some experience formatting HD's and installing firmware. There is another option. You can buy a Patriot 4Gb Compact Flash Card, and follow what I've described above. The good thing about this is that your zen will take more vibration than the original. The bad one is tha those range from $70 - 99. I hope this hel

• Creative Zen Micro - I'm so confus

Hi there,
I just got a Creative Zen Micro as a gift to go into my new Uni'versity. I've never owned an MP3 player or iPod or anything before, so everything is so confusing for me! I use a Windows ME system. ... I honestly have no idea what I'm doing with any of this; I read the 9-page booklet, and it really didn't help. How do I get all my songs from my computer into my Zen Micro, and how do I sort them into genres and albums, and how do I play them? And I see a pause/play button, but no stop button.
Sorry if all of these questions have already been posted, but I'm just so confused on how this works, and would extremely appreciate any help!
Thanks,
Esther.

Another easy way is to use the Zen Micro Media Explorer that came with your player -- Or download the latest version here, for Windows ME, by clicking and hitting the AGREE button:
http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ows+Millennium
Among other things, the Zen Micro Media Explorer allows you to easily import music to your player, rip CD's, and organize your music. The program itself is pretty easy to follow on its own, so you shouldn't have any trouble figuring it out.
Edit: If you're not a fan of clicking random links that lead to downloading large mysterious files, you can also find it in the Downloads section under Support, at the top of this page.

• Help with my Bran-New Creative Zen Micro Photo. [Questi

If you don't want to see the backing of my whole story skip to the bold print at the bottom!I also want you to know I read the FAQs and searched through some topics like this, but haven't found any asking my question.First of all, I'm new to the forum, but I've been researching Creative's Zen for a long time now. I kept observing each one closely before I purchased a product. I then saw the Zen Micro Photo come out. This one won my attention. I loved this, I quickly searched for reviews and went for the buy for Christmas. I told my dad about it and he was "iffy" on the price, but it was better then the iPod in my opinion.Christmas day came and I opened it. Right away I checked everything out I knew a lot about the menu already and all, but not really how to control it. I checked to make sure everything worked. All systems were go. After listening to the defaults (which I loved) I went to go install the software. I already had Media Player 0 and Adobe, oh and I didn't want the freakin AOL toolbar! Lol, so I installed everything else. It took forever, but I hooked it up and I installed the drivers, but as soon as I plug in the USB connector I see: "A HIGH-SPEED USB device has been plugged into a LOW SPEED USB port. After that, I switched USB ports, btu I got same message. I hit the X and then tried to charge. I got the Lightening Bolt, but no dimming of lights. I found out that this computer is not letting me install any service packs, I'm confused about that.My question:Is there anyway I can charge this mp3 player and download music onto my Zen Micro Photo without Service Pack ? Or did I just pay $250 for a really cool glowing mp3 player to be used as a paperweight? (I love this Zen and I ran the battery dead hoping that would make the charging easier).Help?
My Specifications:
My Mp3 Player: Zen Micro Photo (Black)What I tried: Switching USB ports and re-installing Service Pack Software: Not sure how to determine firmware without installing something. I'm on a XP Professional and I'm using the Creative Media Source and Creative Media Toolbox

Thank you DM for responding. I am expecting problems, but it still won't allow me to charge the Zen Micro Photo or even use the Creative Media Source. I can't upload any songs or any contacts on it. I haven't uploaded anything yet, but it's not reading the USB device. When I run Creative Zen Micro Photo Media Explorer I get this message at the top of the screen: "The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen MicroPhoto to the computer. I can't organize anything or add songs... so it just makes all the programs I downloaded useless and my Creative product unusuable.ONe thing it does do though... whenever I plug in my Zen MIcroPhoto to the USB it turns it on and glows, but only shows my battery at the top with one red line and the green lightening bolt filling the battery up.After leaving it like this for two hours the green moves, but the red bar stays the same size.

• Creative Zen Micro 6GB/Problems with Power Switch and Firmw

The power switch on my Zen Micro has died. I can't turn it on or off unless I 'jump start' it from a USB cable and leave it alone to go into idle shutdown. I've had this player just three weeks and this is happened and frankly I'm disgusted. But wait, my story get's worse:
So before sending it back to Creative I thought that I should at least exhaust every possible cure. First on my list? A Firmware upgrade to v2.22.05. I downloaded the program and set about installing the new firmware but halfway through the process it hung and I had to end it prematurely. Now what I had was a ZM that apparently had v2.22.05 but was not being recognised at all by my computer. Media Explorer wasn't picking up on it and neither was WMP although strangely when I connect the device it's there in the Device Manager...
So, check back with the website and it said to download an update for Mediasource and that should solve the problem. Downloaded the patch but then realised that I hadn't installed Mediasource on my computer (can't remember why I didn't though). Went back to the downloads page and downloaded Mediasource. Tried to install it but I can't. The reason? because my computer isn't detecting the ZM and I can't install it until it recognises that it's there.
As a last resort I thought that I would try to use 'Rescue Mode'. Seemed simple enough, remove the battery and hold down the power switch. Then put the battery back in and wait for the rescue screen to come up. Seems easy enough. Oh wait, I don't have a working power switch.
What I do have though, is a small piece of plastic and metal that I can't turn on, can't turn off, can't put any songs on, can't listen to, can't fix and can't be bothered with. I have a ?60 paperweight.
Anyone at all have any idea what I should do? I just want to put it all in a box and send it back to Amazon with a request for a full refund or a threat to take them to the Small Claims Court.

Although a failed power switch is not unknown, I only recall seeing two or three other cases of this. It's not common.
If WMP isn't working with the device having v2 firmware something is wrong. Unfortunately this can be difficult to fix, but take a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
MediaSource won't detect the player if there's some issue e.g. WMP0 not detecting it. You can of course also try installing Zen Micro Media Explorer (Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update to be specific) which has MTP support.
Are you are presumably under guarantee, and as you bought from an Internet store, it's best to return it direct to Creative. Contact Creative Support to arrange this.
