Getting my iTunes library fully from old laptop to new one.

I have an old ibook G4 (Ver. 10.4.11)(not intel) and just got MacBook Air (Ver. 10.9.2).  I want to transfer my iTunes all the way onto the new computer without having to hassle with sharing and turning the old laptop on.  Can I transfer my  iTunes library easily? I suck at tech. but am good at following directions.

Theoretically Migration Assistant should move everything, but that's a big jump.
For just iTunes:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
2011 ilounge article: Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information (similar to the first link above), particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick solution above. Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media (you really do need to transfer the whole library in your situation).
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • How to get itunes library moved from old computer to new computer?

I have an ipod with itunes set up on an older pc. Recently purchased a laptop and migrated all of my info from old pc to new laptop (windows 7 format). They are listed in a separate file under 'My Music'.
I downloaded the itunes 9.1 to my laptop.
Now, how do I get the music files over to the itunes program?

Or from within iTunes go to File>Add Folder To Library. Then select the folder that contains your music and iTunes will do the rest.

  • How do you guys transfer photoshop cs6 from old laptop to new one?

    Hi,
I'm trying to transfer photoshop cs6 from my old macbook to new one.
I tried to do it through using migration, but it doesn't work.
Is there a better solution? or do I need to buy new one ?

Migration does not work well with Adobe programs. Deactivate it on your old machine. Then use the Creative Cloud Cleaner on the new machine to get rid of the unsuccessfully migrated software.  https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Then do a complete new install on the new machine, and activate it.

  • How can I move my entire iTunes library from old laptop to new one?

I got a new iPad for Xmas to replace an old laptop not realising I would still have to have a laptop or PC for my main iTunes library. I have got round ths by creating my own area on my partner's laptop & have installed my iTunes library on there. However, it has only installed my purchased music & not my wider collection such as all my CD's that I burned then got rid of to go digital. I have my complete library on my iPad & iPhone but need it on my laptop too in case I lose or break a device & need to install my iTunes library to a new device.
I have followed the support detailing how to move your iTunes to a new computer but am not getting very far. I don't have an iPod to use as an external hard drive. I read that you can drag your iTunes library to a CD or DVD but my library is 16GB & I don't have any disc big enough!
Does anyone have an idea of a simple way I can do this? Is it not possible to do it directly from my iPad or iPhone seeing as my complete library is on both of these devices?

Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab of the the preferences panel via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or iTunes > Preferences (Mac) and ensure the box next to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically is ticked. You can now safely connect the device to your computer without the danger of media being automatically deleted or overwritten.
To get all your content off your connect your iPad to your new computer.
Then use a 3rd party piece of software to transfer your content
I have found Senuti useful but there are others listed in the article I linked to in a previous post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
That will let you transfer your non purchased content
For Purchased content log in to iTunes on the new computer
In Itunes Store click on Purchased under the Quick Links section on the right.
Download any music by clicking on the cloud button

  • Syncing to old library transferred from old computer to new one

Help! I had the data from my old laptop copied to my new computer. When I access itunes it only brings up the songs I've purchased and not the ones I loaded manually. It says it can't sync my ipod as it's linked to another library. I can't find that library though when I do search for it. Can I copy the songs from ipod to my library?

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • How do you transfer Adobe 9 from old laptop to new one

I bought a new Toshiba laptop. I need instructions on how to transfer adobe 9 from my old laptop to my new Toshiba.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First off what Adobe 9?  Adobe is a BRAND not a product and doesn't tell us enough to provide a specific answer. But you can't simply transfer the program.
Second, are you trying to transfer the actual program or the license?  To transfer the license you will probably need to call Adobe Customer Support to handle.  You'll need to use the original disk it came on to install it on the new system or download the latest installer file to install from depending on what Adobe product it is.  Which method you use will depend on which Adobe product it is.  If it is one of the paid for programs you'll need to use the product key that accompanied the install disk. If it is one of the free Adobe programs like Adobe Acrobat Reader there is no product key required so you just need to download the latest installer from Adobe and install it.
Now here is where it get's tricky.  If it is one of the paid for products like Adobe Photoshop Elements that was installed on the first laptop when you purchased it, the license might be tied to the ORIGINAL laptop and can not legally be transfered to the new one.  You would need to contact Adobe Customer Support to determine that.
Third, are there files that you have created or are working on that need to be transfered as well?
If you have addditional questions or something doesn't make sense please post back and include ALL of the following information.
COMPLETE model number of the old laptop and the new laptop. If you aren't from the USA you'll need to include the part numbers for each as well.
EXACTLY which Adobe product you are referring to.
Did the Adobe product come pre-installed on the orignal laptop or was it purchased seperately.
Do you have files created with the program that you also need to transfer?
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Moving old iTunes (8.x) from old laptop to new laptop iTunes (9.x)?

Hi there. I have an old Mac Book G4 with iTunes 8 installed. What's the best way to move my old music and playlists to my new MacBook Pro which has iTunes 9 installed?
    Thanks,

You can use the migration assistant to copy the entire iTunes music library via Firewire cable. Instructions are here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3322
The change in versions shouldn't make any difference.

  • Itunes transferring money from old account to new one

    Help-
Haven't ordered itunes music for awhile and found my account was an obsolete email (changed servers), so I couldn't sign in. My Itunes has a balance of $26.++
So I set up a new ID, butof course the money did not transfer.
How do I get access to that money???
    Thanks for any help.

You also don't have access to any protected purchases you made under the previous account. You can't transfer any credit, I suggest you contact Apple using Express Lane (select your country, navigate to iCloud help and enter the serial number of one of your devices)

  • How do I transfer data from old laptop to new one without using time machine?

I just bought a new Macbook and want to transfer everything over and wipe my old Macbook so the kids can have it.  I have an external hard drive, that has photos etc. on it already.  When I try to do a Time Machine back up, it tells me the drive is not formatted correctly and that to complete the back up, it will have to erase everything.  I can't move the photos back on to the old Macbook because there isn't enough free disc space.  So, I don't think I can do this with Time Machine.  How would you recommend I transfer the data over?  Thanks!

Use Migration Assistant during the setup of the new machine. Connect both machines up to a wired network if possible and follow the instructions. It's worth running software update on the old MacBook first as there was an update to Migration assistant for OS X 10.5 and 10.6 published recently.

Extract the hard drive from the faulty computer and recover the library from it or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. (At least one link in there may be useful even if you don't have such a device.)
