Getting my iWeb

Alright so I have a question that I think I already know the answer but before I do anything rash I thought I better confirm this. I already made a website in iWeb and published it to my me.com account and it functions (still under construction of course), but during this time I was working with bootcamp and all made a bunch of changes long story short I wasn't happy with every thing (This is my first mac so I am still learning) I decided to wipe my hard drive and start a new, well since I did that I guess I deleted my domain from that published site under the ~library/application. . . folder. The site still works but iWeb of course opens and wants me to start a new site. The question is there now way for me to link it to my previous page to download all of its data so that I can continue work with what its set up as or do I need to rebuild the site? Is the domain information stored anywhere else that I can place in my folder on this computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated before I put the time into rebuilding the site.
Thanks

How do I get an iWeb site to show up on a google search?

How soon will the GA page indicate that the code has been added and tracking started? I added the code to the my Demo and Tutorial Contents pages and GA still indicates that tracking hasn't been installed.
I am using the full url to the analytics.js file in the HTML snippet:
    newScript.src = 'http://web.me.com/toad.hall/js/demoanalytics.js';
The file shows up in the Activity window. I've done the same for the contents page of my tutorial site with the same results. The two sites are Tutorials and Demo.

I can get it to test the connection succesfully but the progress circle never changes and it never loads.
I know on my previous laptop and website when it was working it should a little progress circle where the little

'Publish to' should be set to FTP server
Site name is the name you give to your site.
Server address - the domain name of your site, e.g. fred.com
User name - this is the specific user name for FTP which they gave you.
Password - this is the password they gave you for FTP, not the password for your account.
Directory/Path - leave blank to have an index.html file at root level and the site in a folder with its name, so that entering just the domain name takes you to the site. Or if you want it within a folder, enter the folder name.
    Protocol: FTP
Website URL os the address which will reach your home page: if there is nothing in the Directory/Path field it will be just the domain name.

  • Why can't I get my iWeb '09 widgets to publish?

Why can't I get my iWeb '09 widgets to publish? None of them appear on my published site, just when it's unpublished.
I'm using an FTP server, and my domain name is parked on GoDaddy.com.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand? While viewing the site in Safari type CommandOptionA to bring up the Activity window for the site. It will list all of the files for the site and those that are missing will be marked "not found".
If there are any missing then your ftp client is not uploading all of the files. Are you using iWeb's built in ftp client? If so try publishing to a folder on the hard drive where you can first test the site with your browser before uploading to the server. Then use a 3rd party ftp client like the free Cyberduck to upload your files.

  • How do i get an iweb 1.1 site loaded into iweb 2.0.2 for editing?

Hi. I have a site up on .mac that was built using iweb 1. I also have the source files on my mac. I gather that iWeb 2 uses a domain file to store all this information now.
Can you help me get my old iweb 1 site files loaded into iweb 2 so that i can edit and republish? The site is actually still live on .mac.
    Thank you for your help.

...And iWeb 1 used a domain file also. If you have it, iWeb 2 will be able to open your site made with iWeb 1 so you can continue development. If you no longer have it you'll have to rebuild your site manually. See this thread:

SimpleViewer iPhoto Plugin allows you to export your iPhotos into one of three beautiful flash galleries: SimpleViewer, PostcardViewer and AutoViewer.
Just install the plugin, select your photos, choose File/ Export, and you can use the plugin to customize your gallery output. Upload the gallery to your website and you can give your gallery the look and feel of a professional photographer's website.

  • How do I get my iWeb pages to appear on my new computer?

I have an old 17" laptop which published some pages to my mac account using iWeb.
Now I have a new 15" laptop and want to be able to edit and access these files.
However, I don't see a way to transfer these files over to the new computer. No "export" or "load previous website" options.
I also can't see where these files are saved to copy myself, but even then, how I would get iWeb to open them?
I can't imagine iWeb is dependent to work on a single computer for all time. Help please!

You need to copy the Domain.sites2 file from the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder of your old laptop to the same folder on your new one. If there's a file in that folder on the new laptop already, move it to the desktop and replace it with the one from the 17".

  • Computer stolen, can I get my iweb sites sent to my iweb account on new PC?

My computer was stolen and I have since replaced it. However, I have several live iweb sites out there today that I'd like to get back and be able to update/modify. I believe these are housed on mac's server and my .mac account hasn't changed. Can I get these websites somehow re-posted to my current iweb 09 account on my Macbook??
    Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unfortunately, iWeb cannot read published web site files, only create them. Unless you have a backup copy of the domain.sites2 file that resided in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder you'll have to rebuild the sites from scratch. However, Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • I updated my computer to the new software (Lion 10.7.2) and I can't get my iWeb to show up?

I recently updated my 27" desktop to the new & improved Lion 10.7.2 from Snow Leopard ..
All of my personal files, folders, etc were transferred by the Genius Bar at my local retail store, however, I went and opened iWeb to update my farm's website and unfortunately my old iWeb doesn't come up!
    Help!?!?!

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • How to I get my iWeb website online without a domain name and using iCloud or .mac....

I want to publish my iweb website online.  Since we no longer have mobile me do I use icloud, and if so how do I do it?

No, you don't and you can't do it because iCloud does not offer any web hosting facilities, so if you want to publish your website online, you'll need to go to a web host and register a domain name along with a web hosting account. Take a look at http://www.godaddy.com and http://www.hostexcellence.com.  Both these companies offer domain name registration as well as hosting accounts and there are lots of others too.

  • How can I get my Iweb site to come up on google when I search for it.

So my "subject" is pretty much my question. Any takers on this?

What Roddy said is right. It's very important to have content with keywords, as well as keywords in other sections of your website. Getting it to appear in Google is easy. All you really need to do is create an XML sitemap and submit it to Google. An application such as Sitemap Automator may be a good option for you.

  • Erase and install Leopard - how do I get my iWeb pages back?

Because of an issue with Photoshop CS3 I had to "erase and install" Leopard. I did backup all my files except the iWeb site... the site is still online but I can not see the pages anymore in iWeb. Does anyone know how to fix this?

iWeb does not have an "import" function whereby your published HTML could be used to rebuild your site.
The best you could do is manually retrieve your site's "content" (images, text, mp3s, etc.) from its published location. If you published to .Mac, your site's content will be on your iDisk -- accessed via the Finder > Go > iDisk > My iDisk > Web > Sites > ...
If you published elsewhere, your site's content may be accessible (downloadable) via your FTP program.
You can also display your site in a web browser and drag & drop images from there to your Desktop. Also in Safari, for example, you can do View > View Source to see your text and perhaps copy & paste it.
