Getting my Mac/FCP to recognize camera

Hello Everyone!
Just wondering if anyone can help me out on this one. I have a Panasonic PVGS400 digital camcorder. It's about three years old and it does have a Firewire connection. I'm ready to do some capturing and logging on my brand new Macbook. I'm getting the textbook "Preview Disabled" message. How do I get my Mac to recognize the camera in Final Cut Pro? There is a driver CD that came with the camera, but it's for Windows only. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.
Dan

Dan:
Did you set an Easy Setup in accordance with your camera before trying to capture? Your camera is a DV one, and if it's NTSC you first need to set the Easy Setup DV NTSC.
Try closing the project you have now, select the Easy Setup, create a new project (that will take that setup config) and try capturing again.
Hope that helps !

  • What do I need to do to get my Mac os to recognize my JVC Everio video camera?

I used to be able to just plug in the camera and the computer would recognize it.  Now, nothing happens.

If you made a bootable USB drive of your Mavericks installer, you can boot to that and install Mavericks directly. There's no need to install an older OS first. Likewise, if you have a separate bootable drive with the downloaded Mavericks .dmg installer anywhere you can get at it, you can run the installer from there, then choose the erased drive as the target to install Mavericks too. Again, without having to install an older OS there beforehand.
Macs with 4GB of RAM are not faring well with Yosemite. More features means more hardware requirements. You have 6GB, which may be alright for Yosemite, though I would personally recommend 8 as a real use minimum.

  • How do I get my mac powerbook to recognize an external hard drive

I just purchased a Hitachi external hard drive to back up my PowerBook G4--Mac OS X v 10.5.8 (1.67 GHz PowerPC G4 processor).  The computer will not recognize the device.  I have reformatted it via another mac and it still will not be recognized.  It is plugged in via USP port and the device does light up but it never blinked.  I have gone to Finder and it is not listed.  I have go to Disk Utilities and it is not listed.  HELP!
I have tested the USP ports and other devices (flash drives, printers) work.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
You say you formatted it using another Mac, which Mac would this be and what did you format the drive to?
I wonder if the device is USB 3.0 only and as a PowerBook has only USB 2.0 port it's just not recogniszing it.
I have also know the leads to be at fault in the past. I have an external drive that simply wont work on my PowerBook using the USB lead it came with, but a longer older lead it works fine. On My MacBook it works fine with both leads (Strange) So you may wish to try another USB lead.
Is the external drive powered from the USB port or does it have an external power adapter?
If it uses the power from the USB, it could simply be the PowerBook's USB 2.0 ports are not powerful enough to power the drive.
    All the above are possibilities.

  • I can't get my Mac mini to recognize my music on my external hard drive. What am I doing wrong?

I am converging all my computers at home to macs, I recently got a mini and have all my music on an external hard drive. I can't seem to get my mini to register any of my music on my external, it does however register my movies, pics, and tv shows. I am at a loss!!

If this is a Windows formatted (NTFS) drive, by default, OS X will not see anything on it. If it is formatted FAT32, then OS X can access the files, like it does on my external 1TB drive with 8GB of iTunes music.
Once mounted on your desktop, open disk utility, select the drive name in the left column, and click the Info button. You are looking for the File System entry. If it is not NTFS, then under First Aid, click Verify the drive.

  • Mac doesn't recognize camera

My canon t3i STILL will not connect to my Mac running OS X 10.9

    Hi kgleiss!
    Thanks for posting.
Have you updated the Canon software since you upgraded to the new version of the Mac OS?  If not, I recommend that you download the updates for EOS Utility and Digital Photo Professional from our website.  Please refer to the link below:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/eos_slr_camera_systems/eos_digital_slr_cameras/eos_re...
At this time, updates to our software have not been specifically released for OS 10.9, but we have found that the versions we have now work quite well in most cases.  When you get to the download page, select OS 10.8 as your operating system so the download links will appear.
If this is a time sensitive-matter, additional support options are available at Contact Us.

  • Is there a way to get a Mac program to recognize my Sirius XM Satellite Radio?

I used XM2go Music Manager to organize my music on my portable satellite radio.  My iMac will not recognize the radio when it is connected to the usb port.  The XM software does not work on Mac.  Any ideas?

You need a MacOS X driver for this device and its manufacturer only supports Windows.
Here is their feedback page: http://www.siriusxm.com/feedback
You could run the software (along with Windows) in Parallels. It may not work with 64-bit Windows. It would probably be easier to just swap out the microSD card to transfer files.

  • I can't get my Mac Pro to recognize my external hard drive

I recently purcchased a Mac Pro. I have a 15" PowerBook G4 that I still use. About a year a go I purchased a Lacie 500 GB external hard drive and formated it on my PowerBook and transfered about 350 GB of data over a period of time. I know am trying to access the Lacie on Mac Pro and the disk will not mount. I know that you have to format external drives differenly for Intel Macs but is there a way for me to access my data on my Lacie?
Please help! I need these files.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Dual Core 3.0 Ghz, 4 GB memory

Intel Macs use a different partition table format (GUID) for booting. Otherwise, the PPC/APL tables should still let it mount etc unless there is a problem with LaCie or the FireWire ports.
Does it have FW800/400 and USB2?
Seems like LaCie isn't using the best cases or firmware or bridge.
This is a D2 model? two drives bridged to appear as one volume?

  • Itunes for mac won't recognize ipod but iTunes on parallels will

Just upgraded itunes to 10.5 and purchased a new ipod classic (160gb). All my music is on my old macbook, but itunes won't recognize that the ipod is attached. Finder will, but iTunes won't. However, when I run iTunes in parallels desktop on the same mac, it recognizes the iPod and asks to sync. How do I get the mac itunes to recognize the ipod?

Sorry for the late response. I realised my notifications are off. I've tried that. All my software is up to date, setting for wifi sync are all checked off. I spent 1 hour on the phone with Apple with no results. Most threads are about Windows PC. I run a a MacBook. Variables could be my Linksys router but i/ve played with the firewall settings and nothing. I have a range extender but all devices are using the same network. Any final ideas?

  • How can i get my mac book pro to recognize a JVC camcorder?

How can I get my mac book pro to recognize a JVC camcorder using a Sony CAMERA USB cord??

Gotta say thank you — again.  Sorry the posts were spread out over more than one location.    I'll check and see if Third Party Software is considered a "peripheral", maybe that would have been a better single thread choice?
Definitely news we can use and the reference link is appreciated.
OT ~ We keep becoming more and more aware of how easy it is to lose one's bearings when it comes to keeping up with info tech.  My husband and I are both official members of the geezer set and have been out of the work force for some years.  You really do pick up so much just by being in the environment where people are using things to get work done.  A couple of old MP3 players, PPC G5, and a vintage Inspiron 3800 that someone didn't want any more is about it.  No cell phone, no iPod, no iPad, no home wireless network, no streaming media.  Fixed income.  So we do with what we can as long as we can.  If we could get by without that Intel processor, we'd probably make do with what we've got.  On the other hand, we've really wanted a notebook for a very long time and have to admit that needing to upgrade to accomodate my husband's project is pretty much just the "reason" we need.  I really mean it when I say that we are beyond appreciative that users take the time to share info and patiently educate those of us who fall into the "slow tech" category.

    Hi Tom,
I'm so impressed with how you help everyone solve their problems. I will do my best here, but my husband will be home soon and knows how this large external is formatted.
How late do you all work there? I'm on east coast. Is the screen shot you wanted? I opened up external and
    this is what I see.

  • I cannot get my Mac to recognize my Sony DCR-HC21?

I cannot get my Mac to recognize my Sony DCR-HC21. Running a 13inch Macbook Pro 13inch mid 2010 model with Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Trying 3 separate Firewire cables (also tried two USB cables even though I know they wouldn't work, just wanted to see if the Mac would recognize the camera that way, no dice)
    2. Turning the camera on then opening iMovie '11 (running version 9.0.4.)
    3. Opening iMovie first then turning on the camera
    4. Turning the camera on then opening Final Cut Pro 7
    5. Opening Final Cut open first then turning on the camera
    6. Tried 2-6 once with USB Stream on, and once with USB Steam off (USB Stream is a function on the camera)
    7. Restarted the Mac then tried again
    8. Reset my PRAM and NVRAM then tried again, still no dice.
My camera is set to the "Play/Edit mode" where it's supposed to be and the camera recognizes that it's connected to the computer by showing a little "DV" icon in the upper right hand corner, but iMovie, Final Cut, and the Mac itself won't recognize it. I have searched all over the internet, tried everything every forum has said and still nothing. Can anyone please help me?

  • I want to store movies on an SD disk, watch them on the way to Europe, then use the chip to record photos in my camera.  I can't get the iPad mini to recognize the videos I've recorded.

I want to store movies on an SD disk, watch them on the way to Europe, then use the chip to record photos in my camera.  I can't get the iPad mini to recognize the videos I've recorded.

I'm a bit lost - you first say
"The only file(s) I can sometimes get it to recognize are the ones shot with a camera onto an SD card"
    then you say
" If I take an unused SD card and record video with my camera, it will see, and import the file to the Photo app."
In the first statement, aren't you using an SD card in the camera?  And what do you mean by "unused SD card"?    Cameras put their files in specific folders on a card, and your device only reads photos and video from those folders, not from anywhere else on the card.

  • HT201628 I tried following the steps in this article. When I attempt to delete iTunes,  it says "iTunes" can't be modified or deleted because it's required by Mac OS X. What other steps could I take to get my MacBook Air to recognize my iphone again?

I tried following the steps in this article. When I attempt to delete iTunes,  it says “iTunes” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. What other steps could I take to get my MacBook Air to recognize my iphone again? Neither iTunes nor iPhoto recognize my phone any longer.

iTunes can't be deleted because it comes with OS X. In order to delete it, open Terminal and copy:
    sudo rm /Applications/iTunes.app
This will remove iTunes, so then you can reinstall iTunes
