Getting my movie dvd's onto my IPad.

I have a large movie DVD collection, and would like to view my favorites on my iPad. These are MY movies, and I want to take some with me in my travels on my iPad. Are there any ways to get the movies onto iTunes, and then to my iPad?

I agree with you in principal, but commercial DVD's are encrypted in a way to prevent this kind of duplication - and a judge has recently ruled that you can not legally remove this kind of copyright protection, even if you only are doing it for personal viewing. Apple, the owner of this board, has forbidden the discussion of how break this law.
Handbrake is a free program that allows conversion of movie types of all forms ... And I will say that they offer an explanation of how one might be able to deal with any other "complications" you are facing.

I got the "wrong answer", so the next time I asked for an email authentication. I am still waiting. I don't know what the usual time for waiting normally is. I am still waiting for an email reply from three days ago. I'm not going to hold my breath. My ipad is out of warranty but I may have to beg for help from support? I'll wait awhile longer. All devices only sync what you select to sync.
If you do not want all of the music, then simply do not select all of the music to sync.

If the apps are not on your computer's iTunes (did you do File > Transfer Purchases prior to starting the update ?), then you could try downloading them to your computer (re-downloading) and then restoring to your backup and see if that restores them and their settings/content - a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings, so for the restore to work fully iTunes needs access to the apps so that it can restore them.

I am wondering if there is a way to put DVD movies onto my iPad. Apple Support said there were some apps that could do it but he could not advise me beyond that. It seems like if you can put your CD's on there, then why would you not be able to with DVD's? I don't want to have to rebuy Toy Story, etc. for my kid for a trip we are going on when I already bought the DVD!

Toy Story etc. are commercial DVDs. The process is not the same as ripping a CD. This process involves breaking the encryption and that is not legal. Regardless discussion of such is not permitted on these forums

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Yes, I sync my music to my PC on iTunes. Your instructions are exactly what I've read you are suppose to do but when I go to the info tab, there isn't a choice to sync from outlook.
Under Sync Contacts it says;
Your contacts are being synced with your iPad over the air from iCloud. Over the air sync settings can be changed on your iPad.

Ok. I have successfully transferred garageband files from my ipad to my itunes into file sharing and then saved them onto my mac in a file. Now, the question is.... how do I (after deleting garageband files off of my ipad) put them BACK on???

Step 1
First you put the the GarageBand Project back onto the GarageBand Documents area of you iTunes File Sharing section and make sure your iPad syncs with iTunes.
Step 2
Now in GarageBand, go to the My Songs window, click the + button and select "Copy from Tunes". You should see all the GarageBand Projects that are available in your iTunes FIle Sharing section (from step 1). Tap on it to copy the Project to the My Songs window.
Now you can open it.

Getting a Mac Downloaded ebook onto my iPad

I downloaded via Safari on my Mac, a free O'reilly ebook on iBook Author. I added it to my Mac's itunes library. My ipad syches via Icloud. But this book has not shown up on the iPad. And when I connect the iPad to the Mac's iTunes, if I go and press "synch" to synch the iPad books, I'm told that doing so will replace the iCloud based books with the book versions on my Mac. I'd rather keep my iPad synched with ICloud, but somehow this new book is not showing up on my iPad. What can I do?

@ Radiation Mac: downloaded the pdf version and put it in iTunes. But that did not help either. Then I read the iPad manual, available online here at apple support and it said that the two ways to get an ebook into my iPad were either to directly synch my iPad with my computer Mac based iTunes (I guess that iCloud really doesn't synch books yet) or else to email the book to myself and open the email on my iPad and then touch the icon and select the option to open it in iBook on the iPad. That worked for the pdf version. And you are right, it did not work for the epub version, though O'Reilly's website said that the epub format is supported on iOS devices.

I have just received an iPad 3 for my birthday. I do it know how to find information re model or number, there is non on the packaging other than iPad 16GB. I thought I just connected my iPad to my laptop to sync all info. I am a novice so please excuse me if I appear dense.

I don't have a gmail account, but according to this page if you set up the account as an Exchange account (not as gmail) then you should be able to sync your contacts from it.
(You can get the iOS version of your iPad via Settings > General > About > Version, and the model is whether is it a wifi-only model or a wifi+3G/4G model.)
