Getting my new Sony Handycan DCR-DVD92 mini disk data into FCE

Getting my new Sony Handycan DCR-DVD92 mini disk data into FCE?
The mini disk will not work in the Powerbook G4 slot reader, so I hear, and the software for editing the data runs on the dark side.
I am aware that I could do it OK on the PC and probably burn a regular DVD disk that I could then read into FCE.
However, I would like to leave the PC and the dark side behind and do it all on the Powerbook. Addonics has an external tray firewire reader supposed to work OK on a mac. Is their stuff any good?? This is their Mobile DVD/CDRW 16x52x24x52 Firewire unit. $125.00. Will it really work on my Powerbook?
Assuming it works, can FCE work with the Sony format? Probably not. Is there any software to convert the Sony to FCE's liking?

Dear Mr. Chroma,
Al, you may have supplied the answer. I do have a DV tape camcorder and perhaps I can dub from the Sony mini-disk to the DV tape. And then go to FCE! Yea!
The Addonics thingey is an external DVD drive with a firewire link and it has a tray for the input. The mini-DVDs cannot be used with the Powerbook DVD slot, but can be read with a tray drive.
Thus, I could read the mini-DVD data into the Powerbook. However, I am not sure that I am out of the woods at that point. Maybe I am. I have read that the mini-DVD is in MPEG-2.
I like your suggestion because I already have the DV tape camcorder and can find out if the data is compatible with FCE without spending more money.
I do not believe that there will be any analogue to digital conversion. Everything is digital all the way. The results when playing the mini-DVD from my camcorder seem to be very good, according to the Amazon reviews. And, Wikipedia says that MPEG-2, with some modifications, is also the coding format used by standard commercial DVD movies.
However, the proof will be in the pudding.
I do not have FCE yet. It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I am just doing a lot of homework right now.
Thanks again.

  • What can I do simply  to keep all my previous contents, (own pics, videos, etc.) on my previously authorized iPad on PC, but get a new authorisation and a right syncronization, without data loss with a new  iTunes on my new Mac?

    Friends,
I already had an iPad(1) and its full contents (not only the purchased items, applications from Apple, but my all own pics, videos, songs etc.) is normally syncronized with an authorized PC (Windows) computer.
Now,  I've bought a new MacBook Air computer, and want to sell my PC. But I don't know how to transfer (or syncronize) all of the contents from my previous iTunes on PC to the new one on the Mac.
When I connected my iPad to my new MacBook Air, I promted, if I want to change authorization of my iPad to the MacBook.
But also got a warning, that the new iTunes will delete from my iPad all my previously syncronized items, pics, videos and music, with the previously authorized  iTunes on the previous computer, expect the saved pics from the net.
What can I do just like that, simply  to keep all my previous contents on my iPad, but have a new authorisation and a right syncronization, without data loss with the new  iTunes on my new Mac?
Thanks a lot for your answer.

Here are some instructions that I have posted several times that may be helpful to you as they have been to others. You can simply ignore anything that does not apply or that you have already done.
As Alan stated above - transferring the iTunes library is the best first step. If you can transfer the iTunes library to the Mac, most of this will be unecessary for you to do.
    Very Important ....
    1. Authorize the computer.
    2. Turn off auto sync in iTunes
    3. Transfer purchases
The text in italics is from the other thread - non italics are my words.
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your new computer, start iTunes. Click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your computer and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your computer, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your computer. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.

This support site will help you with transferring iTunes music to your new computer.

One final note - you may want to leave auto sync turned off - but that is totally up to you. I never did use auto sync.

  • Compatibility issues with my Sony DCR-DVD201 mini disk recorder

While I can play video through my camera using the DVD player that came with my new desktop, I am unable to import video. iMovie does not recognize my camera. I was under the impression that Macintosh was cutting edge, simple, and intuitive regarding movie making. So far, it has been anything but. What's more, I told the Apple salesperson that I had a Sony mini DVD recorder and nothing was mentioned about incompatability. I am working on a time sensitive project and am in desperate need of assistance. I contacted Sony via Live Chat and was told that I was SOL. Is this true?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
You'll need to import your DVD footage onto your Mac via the camcorder's USB cable, which may take a while, and then download MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD material into a form which iMovie can handle.
(..Incidentally, I think Bengt meant that "i.Link", not "iLinc" (which might be mistaken for "Lanc") is the same as FireWire, when he wrote "..Digital in/out - FireWire - IEEE 1394 - iLinc is the same..")
("Lanc" is a remote connection for camcorders, for turning on and off and zooming the camcorder from a distance.)

  • I lost my sync key when my harddrive was wiped, so how do I get a new sync key without deleting my saved data?

I synced my firefox bookmarks so that I could reupload them if ever my computer got wiped, so I don't have a second device with the sync key on it. I made the mistake of only saving the sync key on the computer. I just got my computer back from the shop and they wiped my operating system without asking. Now I don't have my sync key and the only way to access my sync account requires that I change the sync key and delete all the data saved on the server. How can I get access to my data?

Sorry, without your Sync Key your data is worthless, it can't be de-crypted, and creating a new Sync Key will wipe it from the Sync server.
BTW, the Firefox Sync service isn't meant for "backups", it is meant to synchronize your Firefox data between different "devices". Any chance you had more than one device setup with that Sync account? If so, you can use the Sync Key from that device.

  • I synced firefox information to the servers and exchanged my laptop. How can I get the new laptop to sync with my firefox data?

I want to get my firefox sync data on my laptop. However, I haven't paired this device, I just have my information on the firefox servers under my account. How can I get the sync info on this new laptop?

If you don't have a 2nd device available which is already setup with your Sync account, pairing can't be done.
In order to set up a '''new device''' when you can't "pair", you need three things; the user account name ''(email address used)'', the password for the account, and the '''Sync Key'''.
If you didn't make a copy of the Sync Key as prompted at the end of the Sync set up process, you can't successfully setup a new device and won't be able to recover your data.

  • Cannot get brand new hard drive to work. Disk utility states operation not supported when I try to erase or partition?

Without any success, I cannot get my hard drive to work in disk utilities. I am able to see the disk in the upper left hand column, but when trying to initiliaze the software always reads operation not supported. Any ideas?

You probably have too new a hard disk.  Contact the hard disk manufacturer and ask what jumper setting is needed to drop to 1.5 Gbps SATA speed.
Either that, or return the disk, and go to http://www.macsales.com/
They can be sure to equip you with a proper hard disk.

  • I can not get my new Nikon D 810 raw file to load into Lightroom. I have been doing this same thing for over a year using a Nikon D800.

when I go to add my raw files like I always have it said that it can not read these raw files. I called Nikon an was told that the raw files in the D810 are the same as the D800. Something is up.

    Re: D810/Lightroom5 importing Raw files
The raw files are not the same as the D810 has a different sensor than the D800. The file layout might be the same but that doesn't mean any software that supports the D800 will support the D810. Adobe has to profile the new camera and add calibration profiles and then release an update to Lightroom. ACR 8.6 RC supports the D810, so LR 5.6 will probably support the D810 too. For now, you could convert the nef files to dng using the dng converter that comes with ACR 8.6: Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 RC for CC and CC 2014 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs

    Hi Anil,
You want to make sure you use lower case for both CRM entity and field names.
In any case, writing a custom script component to talk to CRM may not sound terribly hard, but as soon as you get more business requirements and you deal with more entities, you will find it is not something trivial.
For this reason, we highly recommend you check out a commercial offering which will actually save you a lot of time and effort. Check out our solution at http://www.kingswaysoft.com/products/ssis-integration-toolkit-for-microsoft-dynamics-crm/ for

  • Problem Importing with Sony Handycam DCR HC30

Here's the problem...I can't import my video footage to Imovie HD 06 via firewire. I have a HC30, and a HC32 and neither will import to my computer. They both used to import about a year ago, but won't anymore. My dad's camera (a HC21) will import with no problem, so I know it's not the cable or firewire port on the computer.
What is going on here? I need help with this before i loose my mind!!!

hi, did you get this resolved? I'm in what sounds like the same situation, which is desperate now. I am trying to import from a Sony Handycam - DCR-HC37 mini DV cam into my Macbook Pro with iMovie HD 06.
I plugged it into a friend's new Macbook 2 weeks ago and it worked fine, but then last week when I tried it in his Macbook again it wouldn't work.
It worked fine on my Macbook Pro with iMovie - about 8 months ago, but now it won't show up in iMovie, no matter how many times I disconnect it - reconnect it, restart camera, restart laptop. I have to show some footage at one of the most respect art institutions in England next week, and if I don't get this footage I've been collecting over the last 2 months off my Handycam I am going to be in deep trouble!!!
I really hope that someone can make sense of this problem, I've seen lots of people posting similar problems, but I don't know if this has a resolve or not.

  • How do I get the Movies off my new Sony Handycam using iMovie?

WOW! I didn’t think that this would be such an issue!
    So, I purchase a new Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 with a 30 GB
Hard Drive in it. I ask the sales person “Is this camera compatible
with my G5 Mac?” He says, it sure is! I take it home record the kids
around the house, and my daughter’s ballet recidal. COOL!
Then I go and try and downlaod the movies to my Mac. I come to
find out that the 2 cds that came with the camera are pretty worthless!
Sony states in one of the bullet points in the instruction manuel
that the software on the cd will not work on a Macintosh computer.
So, I figured, NO big deal, I will be using iMovie! Unfortunately
iMovie does not recognize the camera when I hook it up, because
it can only hook up using a USB connection. It doesn’t even offer
a Firewire connection, and iMovie ONLY recognizes Firewire.
I then find on one of the cds, a PDF of the Handycam Handbook.
It states in the PDF, that Mac users need to open the disk icon
on the desk top for the camera, and copy the files from the camera
to my hard drive. So I follow the steps and do this. Then I go to
open one of the files using Qucktime, and I get an error message
stating that Quicktime cannot open the file because it could not
    parse it -2048!?!?!
Next, I go to the Apple web site to see if I can find anything to
resolve all this. I find an article “iMovie does not work with muxed
MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 clips” In the article it states that if the files
are MPEG2 Muxed files, iMovie can not support them!
I come to find out that the files are MPEG2 Muxed files. It seems
that the newer camcorders are using this format, because the files
are heavily compressed to allow the camera to cram more data
on the hard disk. The problem is you need some kind of software
to decompress these files in order to use them, and Sony doesn’t
    include it for the Mac!
After more research I find - QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback on the
Apple web site. I purchase it for $19.99 from the site hoping this
will be the answer. Nope! It allowed me to open the movies in
QuickTime, and copy them into iMovie but they are only the
video portion. They have NO audio!
Anyone else run into this whole pile of BS?!?!!? If so, were you
able to figure out a work around? Or, are you stuck with a cool
camera full of movies, with NO way of getting them off with
sound? Well. unless you find someone with a PC that has
a DVD burner in it! Man, that thought scares the ---- out of me!

Get a nice Sony miniDV camcorder. It is not too expensive; it is small and easy to carry around to shoot your video. Most importantly, it will be instantly compatible with iMovie. You don't have to install any software, just connect it via FireWire (Sony calls this iLink) and you are good to go!
I have had several Sonys and love them. You don't need one with fancy editing capabilities because you will edit your movies in iMovie. Just be sure that it has AV In and Out so you can import and export back to the camcorder.
My current version is the small DCR HC-26. There are newer versions of that HC-30something and 40something. Look at the specs on Sony's website
Some of them require the use of a dock to import and export. I am not really fond of that feature. I like just connecting directly to the camera.

  • New sony camcorder only has HDMI output, how to get in to iMac?

My dad is looking to get a new Sony camcorder. He edits using FCE.  Problme is, the latest cameras have moved from firewire output to HDMI. Is there any type of dongle than will allow HDMI A/V to be input to a early 2011 27" iMac so he can get his video??
    Thanks

I know it's the wrong forum, but why are you trying to transfer video from a new camcorder using HDMI? Most modern camcorders are file based, and you can either transfer the footage to FCE by taking from the memory card or connecting the camcorder via a USB cable to get to the files. From more info, look at the FCE forum as andy says (earlier version of FCE don't support AVCHD footage - check what type of camcorder it is).

  • Sony Handycam DCR-SR46 + my MAC

I just shot a short film on my new Sony Handycam DCR-SR46. When I connected the USB to my mac it didn't even show up. So I connected my Handycam to a PC then transfered to MPGs to my mac. Now the MPGs I transferred from my PC have no audio on them.
I need help getting my film out of my Sony Handycam with the audio.
Note: It plays with sound when on a PC. The sound only disappears when I play it on my mac.
    Thanks.

I've searched for "mpegstreamclip" on versiontracker like you suggested and got the following:

  • I have a newer Sony FS100,  What is the best way I can get my footage into a workable format?

It does not appear as an available camera during import mode, and when I try to import my video files any other way they are dimmed out and i can't even click on them. I should hope there will be support in the near future for this camera but until then, is there another application that anyone can suggest that will let me at least work with the video I have?

    Nick -
This was my first "big" problem for the last 3 days with iMac and FCProX and my new Sony FS100. To make a long story short: Buy the latest versions of ClpWare amd install it (se end of this note). I got it yesterday after a lot of not-useful inreaction  - an then some *very useful interaction* - on this forum.... (and solution came after I began writing to the makers, Divergent.com) -  they knew IMMEDIATELY what was to be the solution for me - and told me/lined me to a (new?) version available that, when I got it, fixed all my SONY FS100U import / AVCHD/MTS problems. I was really overjoyed.
To get there took almost all day. But I'm a giant step closer, now. Honestly. That is STEP ONE: get the proper version to import your files...it gets MUCH easier to work with the product once you have the native import issue resolved. Lots...
So, I imported everything from the hi-speed SanDisk 32Gb card, finally, and in beautiful quality, just using the defaut "REWRAP" settings. (I have yet to try to import via the Pro Res or ProRes Proxy settings - but mabe today I will try...time and ENERGY permitting). I feel I need a day off from all of this, completely, after 3 days of angst and disappointment...but ultimately all which lead to a GREAT outcome. So for me it's [next] onto STEP 2: experimenting more with the product features, mastering more of them; outputting the size clips w/effects. etc and quality I want.
This IS a different animal. But I still suppport it and its advent.
One thing at a time...it is a huge learning curve since I am actually  working with 3 new technologies all at once (actually more  - that have nothing to do with FCProX video, directly...just indirectly....which I won't get into) - but again, below is the link to a FAST middleware transcoder (ClipWrap) that will get your AVCHD files into your Mac. Hopefully it's a fast Mac.
I benchmarkd yesterday on both my Intel core5 iMac (very fast) vs. a slower MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo (?) - both have 8 Gb DRMM;  anyway - while the import worked just as well on either machine -  seemilngly just about as quickly on the MBPro, too...the playback from that laptop wasn't as [quite] perfect after rendering a clip, out with defaut settings (to keep things simple, for now)....but that ALSO may be because I decided to play devil's advocte while I was at it and imported/exported both the same AVCHD files to an Firewire 800 external HD on the MBPro, and secondly, re-imported. re-rendered and re-expoerted same clip to the MBPro *internal drive*...just to see what might happen in quality or playback speeds of a re-render. While both worked, the playback (via the "422 and H.264 codec output" experiments I did with the same, short 1.06 min. clip - but with  NO EFFECTS/transitions with that one, (unlike the iMac verison wich I loaded down, every few seconds, with numerous transitions) - the 1.06 min. test clips WERE, not surprisingly, different in playback. The AVCHD imported to and exported from the MBPro internal HD was a bit more "acceptable" in quality...but the import/export from my much faster iMac (internal HD)  tops everything. Hands down. If I do get a Thunderbolt machine...which I MIGHT, God willing and back account still permitting...I hope that new TB 15" fully-qoutfittd MacBook Pro I now have my eye on will result in still-better throughput - and NOT introduce a whole new layer of problems. God - I hope not...then there is LION coming...sheesh! What [new] problems might THAT indroduce???
One needs to experiment a lot here, but once you are able to get the files in from the cam (finally, and easily) - things start to get way better. After that...it's the learning curve of what input / output settings/decsions suit your needs. That is the NEXT BIG curve ahead...for me at least.
I really do like FDProX a lot..a REAL lot...but obviously, like allof us, I am still learing it.
There is a lot to learn, obviously..just read along in this forum! FCProX has its own big "internal" curve to master, when it comes to details.
I found and have been able to use the Precision Editor.. got a first-ever finally and easily) import of several AVCHD native clips "edited"...but got jumbled up - somewhere - (?) in the Precision Editor  - and over-duped/dubbed some of the part of the clips I cut up to see what would happen. So the end results with that clp were messed up to say the least...but it did output beautifully...I am still confused about the auto/background renderering and o-going "transcoding and analysis" issue....I sotp it and render out to QT format anyway..it seems to work...tho I id end up with the last moments of the PRditor version misssing the last few seconds...which I did OT deliberatelu splice out and delete!!
Just plain old trial and error...now. Obviously I did something wrong (easy to do in a program as new as FCProX)....but again : I have YET to print out the manual or even read a page of it. So for that - considering how far I've gotten (a "surface scratch" only, still, to be honest) - it's a testament to what the program DOES do by iteself for you that helps you SOME with that learning curve...it's refining the editing/final cut output process for me, now - getting past the kinks or not-obvious pitfalls...I get there...we all will and we'll help one another along....and getting an output that looks and works the way I/we planned for in the final analysis.
We're all stil learning here. Esp. me. I am out of energy. I've been asleep for the last 6 hours...and am headed back to bed. In 10 minutes!
Here is the link to purchase the apparently tweaked and PROPER ClipWare version ($50  - worth it!) - and comment from Divergent; as noted: so, in review - I purchased it yesterday, that solved my AVCHD 1080p60 FS100 SONY cam/raw clip import issues and SAVED THE DAY - for now:
(https://store.divergentmedia.com)  - "you'll receive a serial number which will unlock it after you buy it. It'll automatically update to the final release of 2.4.2 when we release that (after Lion ships)", from what I was told by Divergent.
    Best of luck,
    Mike
