Getting my physical DVDs into iTunes - Is it possible?

I am not even sure if this is legal or not. If it isn't let me know so I don't do it. But I have about 20-30 DVDs that I would like to just place into my iTunes for use. Is this possible? If so, how can I do it?

If you mean movies/tv shows/etc that you purchased on dvd, then they are encrypted in order to stop you from copying them.
Breaking this encryption is illegal.
If you mean home movies that you have on dvd, then you can convert them and store them in itunes.

    any advice?

3GB for a movie? That's almost equivalent to an original DVD.
Have you checked in the Recently Added playlist?
I think this is possibly linear.  Select 'normal' in HB, iTunes accepts it; select 'high quality' in HB iTunes doesn't.  I can't say why; I don't have any video that anywhere approaches 3GB in size.  If that's how iTunes behaves I don't see you have too many options.  You either select normal and it works, or you select HQ and live with playing the movie outside of iTunes.
I won't ask what movie because any help with illegally ripped copy protected DVDs is strictly prohibited by the Terms of Use so I'm assuming this is a 6 hour video of your puppy playing on the floor.

  • Importing protected DVD into iTunes

    Hello All
At the very outset - let me admit I love Shaun T's workouts and I always will legitimately pay for those than have them downloaded via other "unfit" means :-)
So the issue am seeking help on is this - I have bought the DVDs for couple of BeachBody Shaun T workouts (Insanity & Focus T 25). Now I use a MacBook pro which does not have an optical drive and every time I want to do the workout means I have to chug along the super drive, and it feels very primitive in today's time and age. Now these DVDs are protected and there is no way I can import them into iTunes and then get them onto my iDevices, so I can break a sweat even if I am in a tiny hotel room on my tiny iPhone 6 Plus screen (Yes - it is tiny when you are trying to follow those moves on a screen that size while half dead in motion!)
Is there anyway to do this i.e. import those DVDs into iTunes and then consume them like you would with any other iTunes media?
Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions
P.S: Cannot fathom why Beach Body doesn't sell their workouts on iTunes!

Depending on where you are it may be legal for you to backup your purchases. Check your local laws.

http://Handbrake.fr may help if you need different sizes etc.
Just make sure you keep the original discs otherwise it becomes piracy.

Is it possible to copy a DVD into iTunes and then upload it to my iPad? Is there any way of doing this?

Sure, just use Handbrake to encode the DVD movie into a format that is playable on iTunes and on your iPad:
    http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
Once the encoding is complete, move the movie file from your desktop into iTunes and then sync your iPad.  Presto, the movie is on your iPad!

hi there i want to no how i put dvds into itunes so i can put them onto my iphone4 myself as i have got 1000s cheers

Since you are referring to commercial DVDs, they are all encrypted to prevent copying. In the US (and other places) it violates the law to use software to bypass encryption, so the Terms of Use here prohibit discussions on how to accomplish this. You might want to consider using a search engine instead.

  • HT1539 This is great, although the new Macs come without a CD drive. How do i get a movie that's digital copy comes imbedded in a DVD into iTunes?

How do you get the Digital copies that come on a DVD onto Itunes with the new iMacs with no DVD or CD slot?

It may be possible for the movie studio to help you by providing a differe type of code for the digital copy.

  • DVD into itunes

I am trying to download some DVD's into iTunes to put on my ipod and I can't get the DVD to transfer in. Any one know how?
    Thanks

In the United States, no, they are not legal.
Any circumvention of the DVD encryption is a
violation of copyright according to the DMCA.
I'm not familiar with laws in other countries.
Since the DMCA is often misunderstood, I wanted to clarify this. Rippers are not illegal, only the portion that circumvents access prevention (CSS circumvention in the case of DVDs) measures is illegal. Many DVD ripping software solutions are legally sold without this piece, but they let you "bring your own".
Ripping a non-CSS protected DVD (some commercially sold DVDs don't incude CSS protection and of course consumer created DVDs) is perectly legal.

  • IPod shuffle  recognized by iTunes but can't get downloaded audio courses into iTunes and onto shuffle.

When iPod shuffle is plugged in and I go to Computer, it doesn't always show up, so maybe there is a loose connection. I jiggle it and try different things and it shows up temporarily then goes again. But the biggest problem is that I get a message saying  Please Insert a Disk into Removable Disk (E:)  Also, I am trying to download audio courses I bought into iTunes then onto iPod. Never had this problem before. Have downloaded with no trouble before..

I can't help with the connection issues, because that sounds like a hardware problem.
    For the iTunes-related problem
    Never had this problem before.
that sounds like it may be not seeing the sidebar (along left side of window), because the latest iTunes hides the sidebar initially.  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
With the sidebar visible, iTunes (mostly) works like it did before version 11.x.  Hopefully, you'll see what you need to do...

  • Recording audio ONLY from a DVD into iTunes

Hi, I'm new to macs having just got an iMac G5. So far I love it and it's loads better than any windows based system I've had. I'm wondering if it is possible to record the audio only from some music DVD's I have into iTunes...can anyone help or is this simply not possible?

Audio Hijack also creates large files, size-wise. This can be a problem if you are working with putting music on audio cds. Google "ripdifferent" for a site that discusses various methods of legally backing up legally purchased media. The gray area here actually has to do with breaking encryption- under US copyright law, users have always been allowed to make a single back-up (Fair Use) of any recorded media they have purchased. It is possible that media companies are, themselves, in violation of copyright law by making it difficult to make said backups by encrypting their media. Also, copying (ripping, recording, etc.) any DVD in any way would seem to be covered by the warning at the start of all DVDs (including soundtracks), which would include Audio Hijack, for instance. This all came about when the digital revolution made it possible to create exact copies. Back in the day, copying an LP to cassette, for instance, was not considered a problem, because you would lose a generation. BTW, ripping music DVDs can be problematic, as they are mastered differently than are "movies," and some Mac ripping programs have difficulty with them. Proceed cautiously and consider legal ramifications, but also consider retaining YOUR legal rights as well.

  • Can I import just the audio from a DVD into itunes????

I'm a beginner to this Itunes and have been wondering this. If I can take audio files off of CDs and put them into Itunes. Can I take just audio from a DVD and put that into Itunes. Example: Can I take the audio from a live concert DVD for just one song?

Welcome, Don, to the Apple Discussions!
No, you can't do that with iTunes.
There is third-party software available that allows you to do so, though.
You might want to pay a visit to Google and enter
    b dvd audio ripping
    or some such terms.
    Good Luck!
