Getting onto Mac from Win98

Mixed environment Win/Mac in dental office. Xrays are digital, processed by one Win98 and stored on another. Xray software allows images to be saved as JPEGs wherever. The wherever I'm wanting is on an iMac running 10.4.x
Asks for a password (I know there is no Guest logon). I gave the Win98 machine the same name as the short name of the iMac account. Does not accept the password that I set up for the iMac user account.
What the hey?
Thanks

Are the passwords the same as well? Windows likes to take the name and password of the currently logged in user and pass that along to other computers for authentication. If the passwords don't match then Windows can be a headache trying otherwise.
Also, when you connect, are you currently logged in as that user on Windows? If not, you'll probably just want to map a drive to a drive letter. This page can provide you some useful information about how to map a drive on a Windows 98 machine if you need help with that.
Hope this helps! bill

  • Help installing PSE10/Premier onto Mac from PC without software CD

Help installing PSE10/Premier onto Mac from PC without software CD.  I can't find my software box anywhere..... Is there a way to locate my serial number within the programs?  AND how can I download the programs from your site- all I see are downloads for the new PSE 11.

You really need the DVD box which also has the serial numbers on the back. If you registered the product you can get the serial numbers by logging-in to My Adobe but that's not much help as only the current version 11 is available for download.

  • Porting application to a Mac (from Win98)

I'm trying to port a Win98 project I'm working on to a Mac and I know nothing about Macs.
The application uses a jar files to hold large colllection of HTML pages with internal links. These pages were downloaded from a web site. The java code also in the jar, starts a server on a port(8090) and launches the default browser with first address of: http://127.0.0.1:8090. I have this working fine on Win98. I found code for launching a browser on the Mac and need the following package: import com.apple.mrj.MRJFileUtils; and then how to debug it? I use System.out.println() on Win98 for debug output, where would the output from the println() go on a Mac?
In current testing on a Mac the server started ok, opened its window, but the browser wasn't started. The user started his browser and manually entered the above address and the server delivered the starting page. Links with the pages mostly worked but there was some problems getting some of the gifs which I'm not sure about yet. The Search routine fails immediately.
The search feature that is called from the HTML via a <form using POST. The search routine then loads all the files from the jar file into a pseudo file hierarchy and and uses a search class I'd written long ago to search thru folders. I created a InJarFile extension of the File class and made about 4 lines of changes to my search program to allow it to search the files in the jar as well as in the Win98 file system.
    On Win98 I use:
    URL ourLoc = obj.getClass().getResource(className);
to get the path to the jar file and then use ZipFile and ZipEntries to get the contents of the jar file so it can be searched.
How do I read the contents of a jar file on a Mac? From a class loaded from that jar file.
I guess I need to understand paths on a Mac??

Once again, you will HAVE to find out what OS he is using... I will assume that it is OS X (because if it isn't you might as well forget about it)
He's run the jar as mentioned above. But it fails in
a routine I'm sure is Windows dependant. Before I go
see him, I need to know how to debug on his system.IE
where will System.out.println() appear? There is a console available in Apps/Utilites where that kind of stuff will be dumped. However if you are running it from the command line you will see it as you would on a windows machine.
The other bit is about how to decode the URL I get
    back from getResource().
What does a Mac path look like and how do you use
it?You don't need to know what an OS X path is like (for completeness it uses : as a file separator), because the underlying system is unix, you can deal with it in the same way as you would if it was a unix file syste (with the rather large cavaet of the system not being case sensitive)
I have code for launching a browser on a Mac, but it
uses a package: com.apple.mrj.MRJFileUtils.As far as I am aware support was dropped for this when they released java1.4
There is a link to it here, but as far as I am aware it is no longer supported software:
    http://homepage.mac.com/pcbeard/MRJPlugin/
Where can I get the code for that? I tried Google
but so far everything I look at is documentation on
the class itself. I went to the developer.apple.com
site, found dozens of downloads and don't know which
I need. A search on that site returned 0 results for
    the package.
So where do I get a jar file with that package?
I'll look at the sourceforge site.BTW, if it is OS 9 (or earlier!) take a look here: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/getStarted/cupojava/mac.html

  • Import "Events from Mac" onto Mac from iPhone

I recently lost all of the data on my Mac due to a faulty backup. At the moment I am trying to transfer photos from my iPhone to my computer, but can only import a small portion of them, excluding the "events from Mac" folder. How can I import these photos into my library? I can access all of them on my phone, but none are present when I connect to my Mac.
    Thanks

You'll need a thread-party app that can access the photos outside your camera roll.
iExplorer is one such app, but there are others. Search on MacUpdate
Be aware that the photos will likely be reduced in size.

You should be able to transfer the files to the Mac without issue, but I'm not sure if they'll play.

You copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The iphone is not a backup/storage device.

You don't.  Apps from iTunes are for iOS devices.  Apps for the Mac come from the Mac app store.  Click the apple >> app store.

  • I am new to Mac Pro but am purchasing one online.  can anyone tell me how to get the information from my Toshiba onto the Mac.  there are no stores in the state I live in.  Do I need to find a location and will they do a transfer from my I Tunes etc?

I am new to Mac Pro and am purchasing one online  tonight.  Can anyone tell me how to get my information - Itunes, photos, and videos transferred onto the Mac from my Toshiba.  the state I live in doesn't have an Apple store but I could take it to Minneapolis when I go.  Any ideas where to begin?

You might profit from a visit to a Minneapolis Apple store. With a brand new Mac, I think they will be most helpful - not just with transferring files, but with other advice as well. And I strongly recommend you invest in a back up drive. The Apple folk can help with that as well.

  • How can i get my music from my itunes onto my mac itunes

is there a way where i can get my music from my old pc's onto my macbook pro itunes?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library, though you'll need to find a different tool such as Carbon Copy Cloner for the Mac.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • I have a new iMac running iTunes 10.4 in OS 10.6.8, and a new Mac Air running iTunes 10.4 in Lion.  I was able to transfer all my music etc. from the iMac onto the Air, but cannot figure out how to get the Playlists from the iMac to the Air.  iTunes Help

I have a new iMac running iTunes 10.4 in OS 10.6.8, and a new Mac Air running iTunes 10.4 in Lion.  I was able to transfer all my music etc. from the iMac onto the Air, but cannot figure out how to get the Playlists from the iMac to the Air.  iTunes Help says File >Library >Export playlist and choose XML, or to save a copy of all your playlists, File > Library > Export Library, "the Exported info is saved in XML format."  Then it says, "to import an iTunes playlist, File > Library > Import Playlist".  Now I am assuming I do that import part on the Air, but when I try it doesn't recognize anything that can be imported - what am I missing??? Aside from a clue...

Thanks, Jim, for taking the time, but the reply is unfortunately vague in the exact area of my confusion!  "you need to copy that file to your new computer..."  Well, the Import/Export instructions make it seem as if the two computers should be able to communicate this file thru wifi, but that's the linkage I can't seem tocreate with Import/Export.  Should I instead email a copy to myself (thats what applecare suggested)?  Copy it to and from a thumb drive?  But then place the file where?  And the article was helpful, but should I be trying to move the Library file or the Library.xml file (as iTunes Help suggests)?  Sorry to be so clueless about it...I suppose I buy Apple in the hopes of not having to think about this stuff, which approach seems not to be serving me well. Thanks again for your time!

  • How do I get GarageBand files from an older mac onto my iPad 2?

How do I get GarageBand files from an older mac onto my iPad 2? I can open the GarageBand Documents folder through iTunes while the iPad is sync'd but I can't seem to "add..." any of my old .band folders to the iPad to be able to view those music projects. When I tried I could only sync individual data files contained in the .band folders over to the iPad and there was no way to organize them into .band project folders. What can I do here to get these GarageBand projects onto my iPad for further use?

This is not currently possible. You can transfer an iPad project to the Mac, and transfer songs/loops from the Mac to iPad, but not GB files from Mac to iPad.

About 3 years old...pretty dated now I guess.  Am thinking I may just need to have it upgraded by a Mac tech.
For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.
