  • Having issues with a left join, getting ORA-00904 error

    Ok this is something very similar to what I am facing, but dumbed down. None of these columns or tables names exist in real life (Very paranoid company I work for, understandable though) but the fundamental problem I am having is like below.
    Basically I know I could have done something similar to this is MS SQL (Or am I dreaming?). If I am right or wrong I need to know a way around this.
    Obviously if you comment out the "CAL.WEEK_SINCE_2005" and "AND CUST.week_since_2005 = CAL.WEEK_SINCE_2005" it would work. But I really need it to display the date as well. So it can be group'ed by week since 2005.
    I will be joining other statements to this. I am hoping on doing this in one select statement instead of creating multiple tables as I am now. All the other joined tables will follow a VERY similar layout to this. So something like this is need to obtain the look.
    When ran I get the following error.
    I look forward to learning what I did wrong and how I can fix it. :)
    select ORG.ORGANIZATION_NAME,
    CUST.CUST_COUNT,
    CAL.WEEK_SINCE_2005
    FROM organization ORG,
    calendar CAL
    LEFT JOIN (
    SELECT CAP.CURRENT_STORE,
    CALEN.week_since_2005,
    count(CAP.inactive_date) CUST_COUNT
    FROM CUST_AGREE_PAST CAP,
    calendar CALEN
    WHERE CAP.active_date is not null
    and CAP.inactive_code in ('T')
    and CAP.inactive_date between '01-sep-07' and sysdate
    and CAP.INACTIVE_DATE = CALEN.CALENDAR_DATE
    and CAP.RSN_CODE_ID in (select rsn_code_id from reasons where title in ('FAIL', 'NO CALL'))
    GROUP BY CAP.CURRENT_STORE,
    CALEN.week_since_2005) CUST
    ON PO.CURRENT_STORE = ORG.ORGANIZATION_NAME
    AND CUST.week_since_2005 = CAL.WEEK_SINCE_2005

    Just noticed a problem (there might be others):
    FROM organization ORG,
    calendar CAL
    LEFT JOIN (You cannot do that - you are mixing Oracle and ANSI join syntax. You have to do one or the other:
    FROM organization ORG
    JOIN calendar CAL on (ORG.col = CAL.col)
    LEFT JOIN (....)

  • Dblink yields ora-00904 error

    I have a stored procedure that executes a query through a dblink to another database. The remote database is Oracle 8.1.7, the local database is Oracle 10.2.0. After making a minor change to the stored procedure, the procedure will not compile, issuing an ORA-00904 error for columns on the remote table being queried. Running the query outside the stored procedure works just fine. Compiling the procedure from our test server (also running Oracle 10.2.0) works fine. Attempts to return to previous code (without the minor change) also gets the same ORA-00904 error.
    Anyone have any ideas regarding the cause of this error?

    I'm going to answer my own question:
    Apparently, links to databases older than 9i can sometimes (perhaps at random) have the local cache in the shared pool get corrupted. The Oracle notes I saw do not describe exactly how the cache gets corrupted. This appears to be a longstanding bug without a solution - only a work around.
    The work around is to flush the cache:
    alter system flush shared pool;

    No, you are not.
    - You are not using the correct version doc vs. Oracle server version. Try to find the same suggestion in the relevant doc.
    - The doc you reference specifically says "... it can be used only under special circumstances. The ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET statement does not perform any data conversion, so it can be used +if and only if the new character set is a strict superset of the current character set+." (emphasis is mine)
    You do not have a strict superset.
    - Also the special clauses you have used are not documented - for a reason.
    Please edit your posts above to remove the ill-advice (steps with internal use only clauses) that does not belong on a forum.

  • Getting ora:00904 invalid indentifier error while running i query

    Hi,
    I have a remote database and local database both are oracle 10gR2.Now i have written the below mentioned query in my local database and is working fine,but in case remote database it is throughing error ora:00904 invalid indentifier.
    I had export the dump from remote db and import it on my local db and i tried the same and it is working fine on local after that also.
    As i believe that this error usually come for column name not exist or column name or it's length or for any special character in column name of the table.But as i said it is working fine on local db but not in remote db though i am using the same dump for local and remote.
    Though when i am querying the table i can able to fetch data for the any record but when i am using the below mentioned query for the same i am getting the error.As i am doing this to fecth the data for child parent related relationship.
    Can any one suggest is there anything related to configaration or something else.
    Please do let me know if you do want some more information on the query what i am doing inside of it.

    I'm trying to run an UPDATE query through the ExecuteSQL method

    I think I have read that you cannot use the "." to navigate through the object, you can only use it for accessing a field of an object (i.e. a column of a table in the DB).
    So, never use more than 1 "." in your requests. In your case, I guess that you need to reformulate the request.

    Hi Barry,
    I think I'm using the latest "EA1" version, which I downloaded from here:
    [http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index21_EA1.html]
    I have just confirmed using the sample script, that the problem still exists. I was connected to a v9.2.0.5.0 database... if that makes any difference.
    * Run SQL
    * Right-Click on results
    * Export Data -> csv...
    * Clipboard
    * Click "Apply"
    * Error... :-(

  • Heterogeneous Services ODBC to MS SQLSvr - ORA-00904 error

    Hello, I have successfully setup a heterogeneous Services ODBC to MS SQLSvr using the steps outlined at http://www.orafusion.com/art_orahs.htm.
    My problem is, the only queries that run without errors are SELECT * FROM tablename@xxx. When I try SELECT colname FROM tablename@xxx I get an ORA-00904: "colname": invalid identifier. Any thoughts?
    Also, will I be able to update MS SQLSvr tables using this link?
    Thanks.

    Hello, Your suggestion worked. Even though all the column_names are lower case, if I surrounded the column names with double quotes the query would work.
    Another question. I'm wanting to update a SQLServer table with data from a Oracle table using a query like:
    INSERT INTO sql_table@xxx
    SELECT * FROM oracle_table ;
    Is this possible? I'm getting a "ORA-02025: all tables in the SQL statement must be at the remote database" error message which looks like I can't.
    Thanks.

  • ORA-00904 error in  DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SCHEMA_STATS

    Oracle 9.2.0.5 on Solaris
    I am trying to run weekly stat gathering on a schema, using DBMS_STAT
    I am getting this error on a specific table, wehich aborts the entire process:
    ORA-00904: "SEARCHKEYWORKS": invalid identifier
    there is no such field. the table creator confirmed that initally he called a field SEARCHKEYWORKS, but later dropped it and created a new one with different name. maybe we did run DBMS_STATS on this table before the change.
    when trying to delete stats for this table, using bms_stats.delete_table_stats(ownname=> 'yyyy', tabname=> 'xxxx') I get a ORA-20000, unable to set values for column BRIEFDESCRIPTION, an existing column
    this table is referenced from many other tables, so a simple drop/recreate would be a pain. any way to fix this?
    Note: I can run the old-style command ANALYZE TABLE xxx COMPUTE STATISTICS just fine; its just the DBMS_STATS package that can't be run on this table.

    thanks for the support.
    the weekly task that first reported the error was
    EXECUTE DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SCHEMA_STATS('SSSSSS',DBMS_STATS.AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE,FALSE,'FOR ALL COLUMNS SIZE 1',NULL,'DEFAULT',TRUE);
    the log file showed the error. where looking which table was last analyzed I gathered it was this table.
    then I tried manually only this table, from manager console using their default, which is:
    dbms_stats.gather_table_stats(ownname=> 'SSSSSS', tabname=> 'XXXXXX', partname=> NULL);
    Hey,
    could you post your dbms_stats complete syntax?

  • Getting "ORA-12703" error in forms 10.1.2.3.0 and database 11.1.0.6.0

    Hello All,
    I am using forms 10g (10.1.2.3.0) version with database 11g (11.1.0.6.0).
    I did some modification in a package. That package is getting called in the forms. After doing modification (just add one if condition) in the package procedure (Not added parameter) I connected to the application and calling the form. I am getting the error message "ORA-12703". After that if I am just compile all the forms, one form is working fine. But in some other form it is not working properly. Still I am getting the error message "ORA-12703". I just put some debug message in the package and form, I compiled both form and package. At this time both are working fine. But if I am putting some debug message in the package only then it is not working. Getting the same error message.
    Does it a forms or database issue or I need to do some thing? Any suggestion welcome.
    Thanks
    SUN

    ORA-12703 this character set conversion is not supported
    Cause: An attempt was made to use the CONVERT function to convert between two character sets, and the requested conversion is not possible due to unavailability of one or both character sets.
    Action: Use character sets available on the system in the CONVERT function.
    What character set do you have on the database and what charset on the client side? Maybe SQL*Net issues the convert function when you use different charsets for both?

  • Oracle 8i, Getting ORA-1501 error while creating new DB

    Hi folks,
    I am trying create a new database on an HP Machine (Details given below) but getting following error.
    ORA-1501 - signalled during Create Database
    LOGFILE 'G:\logfiles\logaf1.ora'
    We actually have a custom application setup.exe to create new database.
    Same setup when installed on a different low end machine works fine.
    Before begining the setup in summary page it shows following information.
    Block buffer count = -3 Bytes
    Shared Pool Size = -41425 KBytes
    Yes the values displayed are in negative.
    Don't know if this is the reason for the ORA-1501 error.
    Can anyone please suggest how to resolve this issue.
    Machine configuration is as follows:
    H/W details:
    HP Server with RAID configuration
    4, PIII CPU's
    RAM: "4 GB"
    S/W details
    O.S:Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack-2
    Oracle Version: 8i
    Patch applied: Oracle8i Patch Set Version 8.1.7.3.0

    Try look to alert<SID>.log file for full error report (you could paste it here).
    Also from alert log you could get real values for db_block_buffers and shared_pool_size parameters that used during instance startup.

  • Oracle 10g installing on Oracle EL, getting ORA-12157 error?

    My boss is getting really impatient. I have tried installing Oracle 10g on... Oracle EL, CentOS 4, Fedora 4, Fedora 5, and I get the same error on them alll...
    ORA-12157: TNS: internal network communication error
    This occurs during the end phase of the installation, when it says "Clone database creation". Network seems to be working, can ping the server, static IP, all that?
    Any help appreciated, I've been working on this for 5 days.
    Jon

    Verbatim, this error means:
    ORA-12157:     TNS:internal network communication error
    Cause:     Internal error during network communication.
    Action:     Not normally visible to the user. For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation. If error persists, contact Worldwide Customer Support.Have you met all requirements before proceeding with installation? Do you have all required patches? Is there any warnng during the prerrequisites verifying routine? Is there any outstanding issue recorded on your install log file?
    I suggest you, after verifying above points, to go ahead wiht a software only installation, next, using the network and databse assistants perform a network configuration and a database creation, this way you'll be able to isolate the source of the problem and go ahead with a specific troubleshootig.
