    "lsnrctl status" will confirm if you are working.

    The command completed successfullyFrankly I would use a different alias than "hyrdev" because by using that you make it very difficult see the new service.
    Your Tnsnames.ora looks correct. Try using different service name.
    You can always delete it later :
      DBMS_SERVICE.DELETE_SERVICE('ernie');

    Also, dont have 'localhost' in your listener.ora file, provide the actual IP or hostanme. NEVER YOU should have

  • 10g stopped working after 11g installed. Getting ORA-12514: error

    I had Oracle 10g installed in win2000 sp2. with port 1521.
    I have installed Oracle 11g on the same system. with port 1522.
    I am able to start both the instances and tnslistener but I am not able to connect to Oracle10g database. Getting following error.

    I am not able to see my tek10g 10g database details.
    I also checked my tnsnames.ora file which has the entries properly.
    Sqlnet.ora file has

    How to solve this issue? Is that possible to run oracle 10g and oracle 11g in same host?

    The approach I would take, in general is:
    1) pick a listener, and only one. Get that working.
    2) Make sure all the databases register to that listener
    3) Fix the TNSNAMES.ORA files appropriately.
    To fix the listener
    1) Verify the listener address matches the current environment

    After startup, if the listener is taken down, you can register each database manually using the DBA command
    ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER;
    Either way, it should show up in the output of 'lsnrctl status'
    While you are accessing the database, you might want to find out which services the database supports. That can be done in SQLPlus using the command
    SHOW PARAMETER SERVICE_NAMES
    Note that the database name is the default service name.
    3) Fix [all] the TNSNAMES.ORA file[s].
    Each SERVICE_NAME from the previous list that you want to access from this client, yu should find an entry that looks like

    myTEST is the alias I want to look up by using it as the connect target string.
    myHOST should match the HOST= entry in the LISTENER.ORA
    myPORT MUST match the PORT= entry in the LISTENER.ORA
    mySERVICE is the Service to which I am asking the listener to connect me, as found in the lsnrctl status output

    No, you are not.
    - You are not using the correct version doc vs. Oracle server version. Try to find the same suggestion in the relevant doc.
    - The doc you reference specifically says "... it can be used only under special circumstances. The ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET statement does not perform any data conversion, so it can be used +if and only if the new character set is a strict superset of the current character set+." (emphasis is mine)
    You do not have a strict superset.
    - Also the special clauses you have used are not documented - for a reason.

  • ORA-12514 error while connecting to server

    I am using instantclient to connect to Oracle 9i server.
    The connection string is given using this format
    //host:[port][service name].
    In our development environment we can successfully connect to the server. But the connection fails in the production environment giving ORA-12514 error. This occurs even when we copy the instant client dll's onto separate folder and set the library loading path to this folder.
    Can u please help me in resolving this problem.

    I am parsing an XML file and trying to store data into oracle 10g.
    My connection string is :

    But suddenly I am getting error like ORA-12514. below is the stack trace for the same.

    Please in the future, first of all look up the error message in the online documentation, even before posting this error yet again, showing you didn't try to figure out what happened.
    The error message implies
    service_name in tnsnames.ora != service_name of the database.
    Make sure both service_names match.

  • Oracle 8i, Getting ORA-1501 error while creating new DB

    I am trying create a new database on an HP Machine (Details given below) but getting following error.
    ORA-1501 - signalled during Create Database

    We actually have a custom application setup.exe to create new database.
    Same setup when installed on a different low end machine works fine.
    Before begining the setup in summary page it shows following information.
    Block buffer count = -3 Bytes
    Shared Pool Size = -41425 KBytes
    Yes the values displayed are in negative.
    Don't know if this is the reason for the ORA-1501 error.
    Can anyone please suggest how to resolve this issue.
    Machine configuration is as follows:
    H/W details:
    HP Server with RAID configuration
    4, PIII CPU's
    RAM: "4 GB"
    S/W details
    O.S:Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack-2
    Oracle Version: 8i
    Patch applied: Oracle8i Patch Set Version 8.1.7.3.0

    Try look to alert<SID>.log file for full error report (you could paste it here).
    Also from alert log you could get real values for db_block_buffers and shared_pool_size parameters that used during instance startup.

    I am developing a web based video download application.In this i intend to download the video file by calling a download servlet.
    Though the application works ,that is it downloads the file, the video file is straight away being played by the media player.My objective is to save it in the client machine at the desired location of the hard disk and then play the same later at cient's convenience. This is not happenening with my application.
    Pl suggest me as how to get the save as dialog box to save the video file at will.
    The site is to be lauched in a weeks time.Pl help!!!

    Thanks for the tip.I actually did all the things u said.But the difference is that i rely on http download.
    I mean i do not use the servlet output stream to download the video file.If i do so it takes about 20 mins for a 10 MB sample file,to be downloaded via a broad band T1 link.
    So i just use href to depend on http by which the download speed is accelerated and my one clip of video of 100MB average size can be downloaded in about 15 min. duration.
    If this is not the correct way of working for the video download will u pl suggest me any other way through servlet, i can download with the above specified speed.
    i am clear if i use the servlet output stream the download process is deadly slow.
    so pl suggest!!
