Getting organized in FCP DVD

Has anyone viewed the DVD Getting Organized in Final Cut Pro dvd by Shane Ross? I am thinking of purchasing it.

i think perhaps it could be an issue of fonts
it changed to a new font and the size difference may be the problem.
how can i have the ability to use native motion fonts through compressor?
you would think that since it is studio pro it would be a built in exchange
anybody have an idea?

I'm trying to get organized and I just added a bunch of books and pdfs to my itunes library. They were all added immediately to my ipad and iphone even though I did not want this. I added them to itunes using add to library and I have both devices set to sync only selected books.
How do I do this in the future so this doesnt happen? Its a lot of work to now manually erase them from each device and it sent my phone over capacity.
    thanks

I dont see the difference in the posts. I dont think theres anything inaccurate or misleading about what I wrote. The items were immediately added to my ipad and my iphone, even though I have them both set to sync only select items. As soon as I added new titles to my itunes library, they were immediately added to the devices. Not on the next sync. Immediately. Both devices were plugged into the computer at the time. Sorry if I failed to mention they were plugged in but I dont see the signifigance youre making out of it. The problem persists anyway.
Now that I did a test without the devices plugged in, the new items were still added as soon as I plugged my devices into the computer ( I do not have them set to sync over wifi).
Since I have both devices set to manually select items to sync, of course I want to manually select new items to sync. For instance, I am not going to read any of these magazines or books on my phone, ever, and I dont want to waste valuable space with them.
    So I'm trying your advice:
I just tried deselecting sync books. It erased all content from ibooks on my device. I then dragged
one title onto the device, and it just goes back to syncing select books, with the one title selected.
It appears that wont work to solve my issue. The next time I add something to itunes it will be put on my phone. Is this really something most people want? To select to manualy control what content is synced, but then have things automatically added. It seems inconsistent to me.

Why did Apple get rid of the DVD slot in the MacBook Pro?

Because relatively few people used it and Apple wanted to decrease the size/price of the computers.

I am viewing your question from different perspective, that is, the issue that you face when you are ripping VOBs from a second DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc using Premiere Elements,
It is best to give the Premiere Elements version and computer operating system that it is running on. In the absence of that, I will generalize.
    Assuming that you are using
    Premiere Elements 12
    Add Media
    "DVD Camera or Computer Drive"
    Video Importer
Typically the Video Importer Save In: is C:\Users\Owner\Videos
Each of your DVD discs is going to have the same names for the ripped VOBs (VTS_01_1.VOB and so on depending on the duration of the movie). Consequently, after the ripping of the first DVD's VOBs and their save to Videos, you will end up with that "files already existing..." block for the ripping of the VOBs from the second DVD.
The answer is, for each DVD disc VOB ripping, to plan ahead and create and set for different folders in Videos in the Save In field of the Video Importer.
Please review and then let us know if that works for you. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on anything that I have written.
    Thank you.

  • How can I get a replacement internal DVD drive?

I bought a refurbished Toshiba P55t-A5202 a few months ago.  The internal DVD drive seems to be failing and doesn't always recognize dual-layer DVDs.  Some DVDs recognize and play fine.  Others aren't even detected and the system thinks no disk is in the drive.  I would like to replace the opical drive.  I am comforable opening up the sytem and swapping the drive, I just don't know where to buy the replacement part.
Does anyone know who to contact about getting a replacement internal DVD drive?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Which exact iBook model is it?
You can choose from this list:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
Apple may not have the replacement discs at this point, but it's worth a try. You could try giving Apple a call and see if they have them available. If they do, they will send them to you for a fee.
You will need the serial number of the iBook when you call.

  • How can I get a dual layer DVD+R to burn properly?

I can not get a dual layer DVD+R to burn properly. The disk pops out before it's finished, usually at the end of the multiplexing stage.  iDVD seems to think the disk is still burning for about 20 more minutes although the box says "done".  I tried it with an external DVD burner with the same result.  I'm running the latest iDVD version available on a MacBook Pro running Lion.  Any ideas out there?

    Hi
Free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk - How much ?
    • for SD-Video and SL-DVD - I never go under 25Gb
    • for DL-DVD I would guess that 50Gb free is safe
    • if HD-material is used (needs space to be downscaled to SD-Vide0 as this is DVD standard) - 4-5 times more

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • Getting an External CD/DVD Burner to Work Properly

Hello!  This is a little bit of a tricky problem, but hopefully you can help me fix it.
I have a (very old) 15' Macbook Pro which I've upgraded with an SSD and OS X 10.6.8.  The only problem I'm currently having is getting an external CD/DVD burner to work correctly.
The CD/DVD drive on the computer itself is broken (it will not load CDs), but it is powered and makes noise when I press the eject button.  As such, I went out and bought this external drive.
The drive works properly- I was even able to use it to boot from my install CD and use disk utility to create a backup of my computer.  CDs/DVDs loaded into it are recognized and work perfectly.
The issue I have is that the unit will not burn CDs.  I've tried using both the native iTunes burner and my copy of Toast Titanium to burn CDs, but it never works properly.  Whenever I try, the external unit spins up, the progress bar starts moving.... and eventually an error message comes up.  Whenever I use Toast I can select the drive to use, but it seems to be automatically overriding whatever I select and trying to get the internal (broken) drive to burn the CD, since the internal drive starts making noise.  Additionally, whenever I check the CDs I tried to burn, nothing has actually been done and the CDs still show up as being blank.
My question is- are there any settings in OS X that would disable the internal drive and get the external drive to properly burn CDs?  Thanks!

Ah!  Yeah, I didn't even see that- thanks for the heads up!  Unfortunately, my Macbook only has one USB port on each side, and the cable on the external drive won't reach.  I have a USB hub I've been using, but I suspect the unit isn't getting enough power with that on there since it spins up, the disc will mount, and then quickly disappear.  I think I'll try and hunt down an extended USB cord or something.
I also contacted Amazon about trying to find a proper DC adapter for the unit, but they couldn't help me at all.

  • How can I get HD quality on DVD

OK, how can I get HD quality on DVD like I can for youtube?   I use mpeg2 or H.264 for my youtube videos and they look fantastic on there.  I use the NTSC widescreen for my DVD's and they look like crap compared to my youtube videos. I even notice that my video ends are cut off a bit compared to my youtube videos.  It's like it is burning the dvd's in standard instead of HD.  I have a canon HF200 HD camcorder.   Is there a way to get that same quality on DVD?  keep it simple for me.  I'm using PE7
    Thanks

Do you mean that you wish to Burn BD material to a DVD disc, or something else?
DVD is, by definition, SD material, and was designed to be viewed on a CRT TV. It is not HD, and that is what BD is all about. You cannot alter the DVD-specs., as they are written in stone. However, one can do things with a blank DVD disc. What they do, depends on what one needs.
Please let us know exactly what you want to do, and we can give you tips.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Having trouble "getting" video from a DVD.

When trying to "get" video from a DVD I have recorded using a Magnavox DVD recorder, Premier Elements 4 will only import a portion of the video. The entire recorded video is viewable if I watch the DVD on a player so I know it is all there. This is only happening with video recorded on this one particular recorder. It is also only happening with Premier Elements 4. We also use Final Cut Pro and it works fine with DVD's from this recorder.
If anyone has any answers please let me know.
    Thanks!!!!

VCR/DVD burners can produce some mixed quality video files, Richard, particularly if they're recorded to a low quality disc (like Memorex).
The wisest move would be to convert those DVD files to DV-AVIs using a program like MPEG Streamclip or VirtualDubMOD (both free), per the FAQs at the top of this forum.

DV-AVIs are the ideal format for editing on a PC.

  • Getting footage off a dvd into fcp

    Hey guys,
    Heres a question.
I went skydiving. I had someone tape me doing it, and the guys made a DVD for me to take home.
Well I want to do my own magic on it but Im having a hard time.
the dvd plays fine in the dvd player, but thats it. when i open it up it consists of 9 files. 3 files are .vob. now these work in fcp but 1 is just the menu picture, 1 is the first 10 seconds of the video and thats it and the third is just a picture that was used in the menu.
the other 6 firles are . bup .ifo.
now i can see the .vob files in my fcp but the other 2 give me errors. Fcp doesnt recognize it. I downloaded streamclip but even that doesnt read the other 6 files.
is the rest of my video on the ifo or bup files?
I tried everything else including all the applications but am getting no luck
and questions would be much appreicated

Try a program called "Hawkeye" http://nitosoft.com/en.html
It will convert DVD video to several different file formats for future editing. I've used it to get to footage off a wedding I produced to send a clip over the web to the client recently since I had finished the project and removed renders and original DV footage off the hard drive.
It will convert to several formats, iPod, FCP, AVI, DV25, DV50, PAL, NTSC, even MPEG 2. It will even take footage from multiple discs and burn a new DVD with an iTunes-like playlist.

  • *** Still trying to get good HDV to DVD image quality

Okay, so I thought I had a good solution, but I'm now back to square one. I'm shooting and editing in HDV with a Sony Z1U. I edit by using Final Cut Pro, 1 monitor and my 32" LCD tv (native resolution of 1366x768). While editing the image, and especially the text looks crystal clear.....beautiful.
My problem is outputting it to DVD. Currently, I am exporting my project directly from the timeline of FCP into compressor using the 90 minutes best quality 16:9. This gives my a 2pass VBR at 6.4mbps.
On a tube tv, it looks so-so, but it appears as though almost as if the lines are out of resigster. It reminds me of reading a newspaper where the print is off register. Definitely you can see interlacing around people and the text looks off register.
In DVD format on my LCD flat panel it looks really good (the best it can look).
On my 60" Sony SXRD new tv at home it looks really bad (granted I'm using a Playstation 2 to show it, and on the flat panel I'm using a DVD player with upconversion capabilities - maybe that's the solution right there....)
Currently I'm not adjusting the presets in Compressor.
Given all the variables above, is there anything that anyone can suggest that will give me better results? I don't want to import the footage in SD because then I'm editing SD and can never output the finished project as HDV when Blu-ray or HD-DVD comes out.
I would really appreciate some other workarounds that people have used to try and make their HDV footage look as best as possible in DVD format.
The frustrating thing is that you never know what TV your clients are watching your project on. Is there a standard set up that I could suggest they buy/use to get the best results?
P.S. When watching my project on the 60" SXRD I'm not only using a Playstation 2, but also it is connected through an S-Video cable. On the LCD flat panel, I'm using the up-converting DVD player and an HDMI to HDMI cord....Does the cord/way of connecting really make that much of a difference? How do I make it still look good for people that want to watch it letterboxed on a tube tv?

It's not the upconverting as much as the limitations of S-Video connections. And for true upconverting, you need to utilize the HDMI connection, which will produce better results over component, and qualitatively better over S Video.
As to client complaints as to image quality, my analog of the weakest link still holds. I always show my clients what it looks like on a good DVD player with at least component in to progressive conversion.
If their set up produces less, you simply identify what part of their set up is suspect.
Good quality blanks. Solid encode rates, and Dolby 2/ac3 audio.
Again, it has to be good going in
    take care,
and I would appreciate it if you could award points.
    It helps us all out.

BTW, go to http://www.lyric.com/video/losgatos/index.htm and look at the web samples of Los Gatos Then and Now, or buy the DVD.

  • Overlay for menus fits in simulation but gets off on finished DVD..

Hi, I am havinga hard time here:
I am making a DVD project in 16:9, the files comes from FCP and are anamorphic DV-pal.
I have two menus with video in them, I have created overlay files in photoshop 720x576 with arrows - they fit perfect in DVD studio pro, and even when I play the DVD on my Mac!
But when I play it on a standalone DVD player the overlay gets off, towards the center it is on, and the futher downscreen it goes the more its off. (Closer to center than it´s supposed to)
To try and get around it, I set up my buttons with Apple shapes, and dropped my overlay file - but again: same problem!
I have tried defining the menu as 16:9 letterbox, pan/scan and letterbox and pan scan - still the problem persists....
I am about to give up...

It seems that my DVD player was set to 4:3....
What is WEIRD though is that the film still played in 16:9 while the woverlay file did not...
I would think that its either 4:3 or 16:9....
    frustrating
