Getting out of contract based on lack of coverage

I recently moved from NY to MA.  I have had Verizon forever and no issues.  Unfortunately where I now live, my cell phone calls continuously get dropped in my house and pretty much through the town where I live.  I called Verizon a few weeks ago and they said that they would sent someone out to test my area and get back to me. I never did hear back from them and had two calls drop again last night at my neighbors house.  I spent an hour on the phone with Verizon who told me that Yes, my coverage in my area is considered MARGINAL.  I have a couple options, they could give me a network extender for my house, which wont work on my cell phone when I'm out of my house or I can cancel my agreement.  BUT, because I signed my agreement in NY, my coverage is based on that area and I will have to pay the fees for early termination.  I have not had any issues with Verizon, I'm sad that I dont have great coverage where I live because I have enjoyed Verizon....  the only reason I need to terminate is because my coverage is awful here.  I work from home and often forward my work calls to my cell phone.  This is where I live, I"m not just visiting or renting, we purchased a house here.  Verizon is forcing me to keep my phones with unstable coverage or pay an outrages amount to terminate my contract.
The customer service agent told me that I could suspend my phone at no charge for six months...purchase a Straight Talk phone for $50/mo use the money that I save from my bill at the end of the six months to pay off the early termination???? REALLY????
Any suggestions would be wonderful.  I definitely feel more like a number at this very moment than a client.
Not happy right now

It's probably because people have been gaming the system.  People here for example will buy a device sign a contract and then act like they moved and say they don't have coverage on a neighbor island.  So they get a device for free-$200 and out of contract to use on another carrier.  This kind of stuff happens on a very large scale.  At times people take their devices overseas and used family members addresses to buy devices.

  • Renewed my Contract Based on Misinformation From Verizon Reps-Any Recourse to Get Out of Contract?

A few months ago (February or so) I renewed my contract with Verizon and got an iPhone 4S as my previous HTC phone up and died. I knew I was going to be moving to Canada for awhile and so I made sure to ask a lot of questions about their Nationwide+Canada plan and what phones would work in Canada before making any plan or phone purchases. From that point on I was fed different information from every rep I talked to in store, online via chat, and via e-mail. The online rep told me that CDMA phones wouldn't work in Canada so I had to get the iPhone 4S rather than the Galaxy Nexus, which was the phone I was originally interested in. Found out later that's not true—CDMA phones do work in Canada (at least in the part I'll be in; there are some more rural areas where they don't work). That rep also told me that my grandfathered-in unlimited data plan would work in Canada and all I had to do was pay an extra $20/month to get voice and texting coverage in Canada. So, I got the iPhone in the store and renewed my contract based on the information the rep gave me.
Came to find out later that you need a separate global data plan to get 3G coverage in Canada, which is $25 for a nearly useless 100MB. This isn't made clear at all on the Verizon website for the Nationwide+Canada plan, and I complained about this plus the misinformation I received from the in-store rep, and all Verizon had to say was, "Sorry, but thanks for being a customer." When the time came to actually go to Canada, I switched to the Nationwide+Canada plan to get voice coverage for the time I was there, which I did in a different Verizon store. The rep in that store told me when I signed up that if I used more than a certain percentage of my minutes in Canada vs. the U.S., Verizon would cancel my plan, which is also not mentioned on the website anywhere that I found. She also said that I couldn't suspend my account for the entire time I'd be in Canada because it's longer than their suspension limits, although she admitted she didn't know how long the limit was off the top of her head and I couldn't find an exact number on the Verizon website.
So, I was fed a bunch of conflicting information from multiple Verizon reps that led me to renewing my contract. Do I have any recourse to get out of it? I'm really disappointed because I've never had trouble with Verizon until now.

Apparently I'm not the only person who's been fed conflicting information from various Verizon reps when it comes to coverage in Canada: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/237079#237079
When I initially e-mailed Verizon about this issue, I told them that if their own employees don't understand what the company offers, then how are the customers supposed to understand?
It just doesn't seem right to have to pay the ETF when I only renewed my contract because I was given incorrect information by more than one rep. If I'd been given the correct information, I wouldn't have gotten a new phone that required a new 2-year contract.

  • Getting out of contract / refund

Anyone had any joy getting out of their contract with out cost (also getting connection fee refunded). My box has been plagued with probems since day 1. CS promised to take the box away if the engineer couldn't fix the box and then let me out of the contact, but when the engineer arrived, wasn't the instruction he was given so I'm back to square 1 after getting lied to by customer service.
Regret linking my you view to my broadband, otherwise it would be a lot easier to deal with.

Absolutely disgusted. As soon as I can save up enough to cancel the lot, BT can take a hike. • Seriously thinking about paying the ETF to get out of contract. Will I get bad ESN?

Due to many reasons, I am incredibly unhappy with Verizon (been a customer for many, many years and am finally fed up) and am seriously thinking about paying the ETF to terminate my contract and move to another carrier with a new phone, like the Nexus 5 from Google. However, I would like to sell my Galaxy S3 to help pay the costs. If I pay my last bill and the ETF, will I get a bad ESN on my phone and be unable to sell it? Or, as long as everything is paid in full, including the ETF, will my ESN stay clean?
    Thanks!

Your phone will be fine as long as you pay all fees/bills.

  • Should verizon make me pay early to get out of contract when it"s a month early?

I want to find someone to talk to about having to pay the $66 for early terminations after buying a prepaid phone & verizon messing up putting my old number on the prepaid phone.  It literally took 2 days & 9 hours of my time to get it fixed. At my HOURLY WAGE of $25 an hour I figure they owe me..It was such a mess.  I was passed around from one person to another for 9 hours. I have never heard of such a thing....

I asked them if I could  use my old phone number before I bought the prepaid  phone..I have to take care of my father so needed the old number...They didn't get it on there  so but activated the services & then my phone didn't even work for a while.  Had to use a neighbors...This has been awful.. They notes on top of notes of my calls.  They just keep apologizing. Then after I got that fixed they couldnt figure out how to get the backup assist to work.  My daughter works for a cell phone company...This should not have happened.....

  • My service since June 2nd has been almost obsolete at work and home. I was told August 15th I could get out of my contract how do I know that is true ?

Something happened in my area on June 2nd and my service has not been the same. I called and complained that week and was never contacted back.I can not use my phone in most areas of the building I work in and can not use it in my bedroom at home. I signed my 2 year contract for the first phone April was a year ago and the second phone November will be a year. My daughter has started school and I hate not being able to contact her and vise versa. I was told August 15th which is the end of my billing cycle that I could get out of my contract. This was told to me over the phone I have all the information , but my concern is how do I know this is true. I can't end it until my daughter comes home so we can do some sort of switch over. I paid for the 2 phones and now have to reinvest in more phones and I don't think that is fair either. I live in an area where we still have Alltel and it is being bought out by at&t. If I switch I don't know what my service will be like and sure don't want to sign another contract with out knowing if it will work either. If I wait and Verizon puts a ding on my credit what will I be able to do that won't cost me a fortune on prepaid cell phone purchases ?

Best coverage is really subjective based on your location. For example, Verizon is the best in my area, but 20 miles up the road, a local carrier is better.
There was a law recently passed that requires Verizon to unlock a phone when it's out of contract. I'm not sure whether that includes a contract that was terminated.
The ETF is signed on a per line/per phone basis. If you open another line, you're simply going to add to your headache. They typically don't budge on the ETF.
In a sense, you are blaming Verizon for the high cost of cellular devices. They offered insurance when you signed up, and apparently chose not to accept it. That makes you responsible for replacing your device, if you choose to.
Lastly, the FCC has already addressed the ETF issue. It used to be a base ETF no matter how far you were into your contract. Now, you can reduce your $350 ETF by $10 for each completed month. The FCC isn't going to consider another ETF complaint.
I agree, Verizon has really taken a step down when it comes to customer service. That said, I don't feel this is a customer service issue. You chose not to insure your device without doing the research on the actual cost of a device, first.

  • Getting out of my contract

I am so dissatisfied with the customer service that I have received from VZW over the last 10 months or so that I want to get out of my contract.  Does anyone have any loopholes/suggestions?  I am paying so much money and no one is willing to help me out - all they are interested in is getting my to pay MORE money.  10 years + a VZW customer - I really want out and need to figure out a way so that I can go back to affording my cell phones!

You can call customer service and cancel the contract, and your cell service.  You will have an ETF to pay, based on the phone you purchased and how much time you have left in the contract.
If you are asking how to cancel the contract without paying the ETF, the only way would be to transfer the contract to someone else - find someone willing to take over the rest of the contract and then do an Assumption of Liability, turning the account over to them.  You'd then be without a phone (unless the one who is taking over the contract has a Verizon phone and doesn't need yours).
That still leaves you with the dilemma of service for the phone you do have ... what phone is it?  And can you work the plans to get one that you can afford and still use your current phone?  You may be able to change your plan to a more affordable one and still keep your current account and phone...it would be helpful to know what plan and phone you have now so we can suggest ways to reduce your bill.

  • How to get out of Verizon Contract

I've been a faithful Verizon customer for a long long time. I use to recommend Verizon to all of my friends. However, I have become really disenchanted with this company. It used to be very customer oriented but things have changed. My husband and I have 6 phones on our two accounts. Between the two accounts - it's been one problem after another. The last issues was that we lost one phone and the cost of replacing it is more than an entirely new contract at Sprint! Looking around it seems to make more financial sense to switch to another carrier. The coverage may not be quite as good, but the service is likely to be a lot better. I have a few questions for all of you....
    (1) What carriers have the best service?
    (2) I am worried about getting the unlock code from Verizon - I understand that carriers try to prevent customers from getting this. Is this legal? How do I go about doing this?
    (3) Is there a way to get the ETF reduced if I start another line with Verizon? I mean I am just trying to replace a darn phone!!
    (4) Has anyone filed a complaint with the FCC? I understand that they are quite concerned about Early Termination Fees and are beginning to consider various options as this is believed to be coercive. I'd like to find out how to file such a complaint.
It's too bad - I wish Verizon would go back to the way they use to be!!

  • I need to cancel a line that is no longer used but I'm told that, since I transferred an upgrade from the unused line, the contract on the unused line was extended by two years.  If I need to cancel both to get out of this, so be it but I'd rather not and

I'm paying for 2 smartphone lines when only one is in use.  It's a waste of money that I can no longer afford.  I would like for someone to present me with options or I will have to seek an alternate service provider.

Ok so now there are presumptions of both my ignorance and my dishonesty.  This has become the most surreal conversation I've had in some time.  I've been a VZW customer for over 10 years and no, this is not something I've ever done before.  In the past, if I wanted a new phone before my 2-year deal was up, I paid full price for the phone and kept living.  That's how the system works, right?  In this instance, I had two lines on my account, each with different contract end dates.  The secondary account was 6 months out-of-contract and unused but, for personal reasons, I kept the line in force.  The person who used the account setup another account with VZW with another phone.  But I kept the line active, just in case.
In the meantime, when reviewing my account online, I noticed an option on the secondary account of "Transfer upgrade".  Given my understanding of the definition of the word "transfer" as well as my previous dealings with VZW phone upgrades, it seemed logical that, since both phones were under the same master account, the upgrade with its requisite contract extension would apply to the line that actually used the upgrade eligibility.  It was therefore, my expectation that the primary line would either have two years tacked on to its current end date or, at the very least the contract end date for the primary line would be 2 years out from the date the upgrade was exercised.  Both options were acceptable to me since, at that point, I was not considering the termination of my relationship with VZW.  I knew I needed a phone with more battery life than the one I had and carrying one of those battery charge packs around wouldn't work for me.  So, I clicked the transfer upgrade button on the secondary account.  I then saw the primary account show as eligible for an upgrade.  At that point, I upgraded the phone on the primary account.  There was no point where I was notified of a 2 year extension on the secondary account and, once I clicked the "Transfer upgrade" link, there was no mention of or reference to the secondary account.
I'm not sure of who I'm replying to or where they are from so I cannot speak to the people they encounter on a day to day basis.  I have not stated nor do I have any desire to get away with a free early upgrade.  It should be noted that we are discussing a discounted upgrade, not a free phone.  I still paid $150 for the phone and was happy to do it.  However, this idea that I'm trying to circumvent the system is offensive.  I'm not trying to get away with anything.  As I've said in previous posts, I expected to burn discounted upgrade eligibility on the primary line for a minimum of 2 years.  I actually expected the new contract end date to be 3 years away, which would have been more than fair for all concerned.  Fairness, it seems, is running in short supply.
If all you have to say is that I'm stupid, ignorant, or dishonest, please don't bother to reply.  If you can in some way help to bring this to a satisfactory resolution, I'm all ears.  Can you hear me now?  Good.

  • Getting a droid X contract after out of contract

My contract ends the 16th of next month. My friend has a droid X and he is going to give it to me for free. i wanted to activate it on my plan once it was out of contract. i currently have the $10-75MB data feature.
When I activate the Droid X is it going to make me have the $30 unlimited plan? I don't need the unlimited plan, I have wifi 90% of the places I go and I am not addicted to my phone so I don't need it to constantly update.
Can anyone answer this for me? Thanks

If you check vzw.com the requirements for an Android phone is:
    Data pack required
Early Termination Fee $350 (1yr and 2yr contracts)
Note the "Data pack required"....You are able to keep the grandfathered $15 for 150MB data plan instead of needing the Unlimited Plan. The only time you need the "Unlimited Plan" is if you are adding a new line of service that does not have a grandfathered data plan for the $15. No you cannot have the $10 plan sorry. I am in a similar position as you but keep this in mind: You say you use wifi and are not a very active data user - well, once you get a droid, trust me, you will find many things that you will want that data for and some of those things may not work on wifi and some will update(weather, etc) when your are not on wifi. Are you a video game finatic? You will love the emulators and if you have a wii remote you can sync it to your phone and use it to play your games....neat....I applaud the creator(s) of this app. If you only knew what the Droid has you might think twice. If it is the cost of the plan I understand what you mean.
Yes VZW is going to a tiered data plan structure and will be ending the unlimited data sometime but who knows when. Other carriers have done this already. So with that said eventually you can get a lower data plan cost but if I were you I would get the unlimited plan so when the plan goes away you can keep it(grandfathered) and then if a tier price works then switch.
Your decision but just wanted to clarify....

  • SC-Sourcing getting contracts based on category_id? BADI-bbp_sos_Badi?

    Hi,
In Shopping Cart-Sourcing, by default it is selecting contracts based on ORDERED_PROD,PRODUCT (material no).
But I want to implement search logic to get contracts based on CATEGORY_ID.
All the contracts related to this category_id I want to get that contracts.
Can any one give idea how I can get this?
I tried to implement BADI -BBP_SOS_BADI
    Method -BBP_SOS_SEARCH
I tried to use the FM - BBP_PD_INDEX_FIND and pass the contracts to the BADI but it is not working.
Did anyone worked on this method, please let me know how to get the complete contracts info and sending back to BADI?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
there is one open point for me in your question. Would you like to search:
    1) only for product category contracts (which don't have product ID)
    2) for contracts, which category equals to the category ID of the SC item (practically also contracts should appear, which have from the SC items product ID different product ID)
For the first case you only need to modificate the coding in the form SOS_LOCAL_CALL_PD (LBBP_SC_APPF87):
    Kontext-Block
      else.
        clear ev_error.
    *   Delete heade contract from the SOS
    Delete-Block
        DELETE et_con_list WHERE ctr_item_number = space.
    Insert-Block
    *    DELETE et_con_list WHERE ctr_item_number = space.
With this change in addition to the ORDERED_PROD search also product category contracts will be found.
    Regards,
    Peter

  • How can I get out of my contract?

Can someone please let me know how I can get out of my contract?  I am very unhappy with Verizon & will be able to receive a better deal with another carrier.  I have called the customer service department about this issue & I am told there is nothing they can do for me, I have been a Verizon customer for about 10 years. Thanks

Sad to say but you won't be able to get out of your contract. They don't care you been with them 10 years either. We have been with them for around 6 years now and our third contract with them is up next month, so we were looking to upgrade our phones and wanted to see if we would be able to get a discount since we didn't want to pay almost 200 a month for 3 smartphones. Ofcourse they try to tell you that the share everything plan with 1gb of data for 170 a month is a great deal already, but fail to tell you that after the taxes and fees it's more like 200. After the run around with that, we talked to someone else in an online chat and he told us that the price for the share everything plan with 1gb of share data was 140 a month, when I asked him to show that price to me here online ( of course he couldn't ) instead came back saying well how does  120 a month sound?......how was he going to give it to us for 120 when he couldn't even show online where to find the 140 a month price. Seems like they don't care and you get a different story every time you talk to someone. Our contract is up next month and we will be more then happy to be free from verizon. The only regret we have is that we didn't print the copy of that online chat out showing we were given a price of 120 and should have went with that.
