Getting Pro Samples to work in ESX 24

Hi
I have had difficulty in trying to get Pro Samples to load and play in ESX24. There is nothing wrong with the samples, as they play well individually on Quicktime, but I just cannot get it right with ESX24.
I have consulted various people including the very helpful Andertons of Guildford but the collective intellect of all has not been able to crack it. Is anyone else out there having the same problem?
The current betting is on L7.1 being 'different' from L6 in certains ways, one of which may be conflicting with the way .exs and .aif files are 'seen' by ESX 24 in the default hierachical structure that OSX favours, and in which L7 loads itself. Anyway it is a bit of a pain and I have spent enough time on this and so I will be most grateful if anyone who has been sucessful in loading Pro Samples could precisly tell me how they have acheived it.

Try this:
Get info on one of the samples by selecting it once and press" command I"
Make sure the file status is read/write instead of read only.
If they are read only you will have to change the status of all the files and folders associated with the sound collection.

Hi Lorraine,
I presume that the TV is actually switched to your Joytech AV device ? I presume it gives some kind of signal so that you check that the TV can actually detect it. I once spent a happy few hours trying to use my TV in this way only to find it was switched to the composite inputs not the S-Video one. ;-)

Trying to get 'External Sample Editor' working.

Hello,
I cannot find anything in the manual about changing preferences as to what editor you are using. I found the key command and tried to get DP as my external but once I saw that wasn't going to work I couldn't find any possible way to change my choice of editor. There seems to be no preference or menu that would let you pick a new one. Is my only choice to complete trash prefs and rebuild everything? Not a huge ordeal but tedious none the less.

It's a lot easier than that.
On my system there is an alias :
~/Library/Preferences/Logic/External Sample Editor
You could try removing the file from it's location or going about the 'select new original method.

Problem getting petflow sample to work

If I fire up the petflow domain, and try to access the petflow application I

you need to reset your connection for this application. You need a connection for
each application you have.
in ebcc select tools - connection setting, select the connections tab. click new
to define you new connection.
call it "pet" or whatever you like.
under application name enter the application name petflowApp in this case. to see
application names avaliable go to the console in your browser.
Once you create this connection, select it under all-purpose connections.

Trouble getting compiled samples to run

I'm new to the after effects sdk but not to programming or sdk usage in general, but I'm having trouble getting the samples to work.
- I've got Creative Suite 3 production premium
- I've got After Effects cs3 sdk
- compiled using visual studio 2005
Seems to compile ok, but when running nothing seems to happen in most cases. In some cases I do get an error message (such as in easycheese) it returns the following error: "After Effects error: AEGP magic error (5017::10)"
I looked up magic number in the docs and the only reference I could find to it simply said something to the effect of "don't change it".
I've got a working script and an idea for a second project, both of which I'd like to implement using the sdk, but I can't seem to get past this first obstacle. Any help, that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seeing a problem in the MessWithMarkers function, where it calls AEGP_DisposeStreamValue. This problem doesn't happen in AE 7.0, but does in CS3.
For some reason, the behavior of AEGP_GetNewKeyframeValue has changed between 7.0 and CS3 so that it doesn't return the streamH in the AEGP_StreamValue struct. And when the sample calls DisposeStreamValue, it wants a valid streamH. So you can update the sample for the new behavior by putting a check before the DisposeStreamValue call:

Other than that, the sample seems to run normally. You'll need to put some keyframes on the first layer in your comp, and the Easy Cheese effect will modify those keyframes and generate markers.

Will not work. To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported. The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

Getting Asus ATI 4870 to work in my Mac Pro. Not working. please help!

I read here on these boards that an ATI 4870 would work in an early model (in my case, 2006) Intel Mac Pro.
I jumped in hastily and bought the Asus branded card: EAH4870
I connected it, and nothing... did not work.
I do not think it is a Mac version of this card, perhaps intended to be used in a windows machine.
Questions:
- Do I need to "flash: this card to make it work in my Mac Pro OSX 10.6.3?
- Are there Mac drivers for this card? I can't find anything anywhere
- Basically, can I get this card to work, or do I need to PAY the extra $$$$ just to have a "Mac" version of this.
Keep in mind, I am not a techie, I need to do Work, not fiddle with this kind of stuff.. unfortunately, a software package crucial for a job is very finicky and works with only a handful of cards.. The 4870 is one of them.
I do not have dual boot, and no windows machines to "flash" or rework this card.
If you can help me to get this card to work, it would be MOST appreciated!!!

It is not a Mac version. It does not have the required EFI boot ROM needed to work on the Mac. Video drivers are contained in OS X. Either you have to have the card flashed (this is illegal) or buy a Mac version of the card.
If you aren't a "techie" then you don't have the hardware needed to flash the ROM nor know how. Because this site belongs to Apple we cannot help you with something that is illegal.

How can I get Configurator off my work PowerMac and have my ipad, ipod4 controlled by my macbook pro from home?

Hi, I put apple configurator on my work machine which has all my itunes, my entire Apple Macintosh History on it and used apple configurator thinking it would be a great way to sync all my devices. I get it now, that it doesn't do that for the private person but is really for an institution or employer. Be that as it may I threw away the app from my main computer and thought I would be done with it.
I just reinstalled apple configurator and thought I took all devices off it. My ipad disappeared from the itunes menu. I plugged my ipad back into my machine and Paulz Config reappeared. I need to get this off my work PowerMac and have my ipad, ipod4 controlled by my macbook pro from home. And does it matter if I use the same email address that's listed with my power mac at work to easily switch the dominant mac over to my home from work. Things can get dicey at work and I don't want my life tied to the work power mac anymore. Thanks, Paul I realize there are a ton of questions in this. I am gratefull if I can just get the apple config off everything.

To completely remove Apple Configurator from a Mac, you need to delete the application along with the following:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator.
You may also want to delete the contents of ~/Library/Keychains and /var/db/lockdown to remove the Supervision Certificate, public and private keys and device pairing information. NOTE: There are other things in Keychains that you may or may not want to delete. Google "keychains" to learn more about what's in that folder.

The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
- connecting the iPad to your Mac
- selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
- selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.
I assume that music and other items sync ok ?

No problem! If you're worried about more complicated edits (which in all honesty, should work no matter how many clips you select or how many effects are attached to them), you can always compound a clip first, and then copy it over after if you're afraid of lots of track clutter getting in the way. Not sure if they would break apart afterwards though if you wanted them to.

Hello, I am having problems migrating data from my old PC running XP (SP3) to my new Mac Pro 2012 using the Migration Assistant.
- I downloaded and installed the Windows Migration Assistant from Apple
- My Mac recognized PC and displays passcode
- The sasscode does not show / display on my PC
- My Mac is then stuck in "authenticating" loop and the PC is stuck "waiting for Mac to connect."
- Both computers are connected on same network (have connected PC on WIFI and using ethernet to Reuter)
I have looked on support site and only response I saw says to reinstall Windows Migration Assistant (which I have done)
Any ideas? If cant get this to workare there instructions for manually bring across relevant data eg itunes music and apps, photos, picasa data etc?

Why not turn off the Windows firewall and uninstall any other firewall software you have installed?
If you are using a Norton product uninstall it and discard it. To fully unistall most Norton products you have to go to the Norton website and download a soecial program to completely get rid of it. The normal uninstall feature built into the program will not remove all of it.
