Getting project to recognize media on different disk
on a project i've been working on, i have been storing all my media on a firewire drive and backing it up on a sata drive. i have also backed up the fcp document from my main drive to this sata drive.
i now want to use the sata drive that i have been backing up to instead of the firewire drive as the main drive for the media. so i want the project to recognize the media on the sata instead of the firewire.
i turned off the firewire drive and started fcp. it had me reset scratch disks, which i did to the sata drive. it then is having me reconnect all the media for the project, one file at a time. whether i do this manually or automatically, fcp is still having me go through each media file one at a time and select it. i have over 1800 media files for this project. is there a way for fcp to just go though and recognize all the media, one at a time, on its own without me having to say "ok" each time it finds a file on the sata drive?
is this what media manager is for? i understand that media manager is used to copy a project from one drive to another, but since i already have all the media copied, is this the thing to do.
i just want it recognize the media from the sata drive now instead of the firewire drive which it has been recognizing it from in the past.
btw, the reason i want to do this is because i am losing faith in my firewire drive and i want to get things up and running on the sata drive in case the firewire drive crashes. i just want to use the firewire drive for backup now.

fwiw, I'm working on a project shot in dvcproHD. I had a post house capture to a 500 gig g-raid drive and then copied all the files to a terabyte g-raid as a backup so if a drive went down, we wouldn't have the expense of recapturing (not to mention losing the time). Needless to say, BOTH g-raids were defective, frequently dropping off the desktop and possibly causing all sorts of other problems. After much shouting via email and phone, g-tech sent me replacement drives (they are holding the cost against my credit card). I copied all the files off my primary drive (the 500 gig drive) duplicating the directory structure by just dragging the folders from the root of one drive to the other. I ejected the dicey drive and renamed the new drive with exactly the same name. I opened my project and all media was linked correctly without any reconnecting necessary (except for one lost render file). I assume the same procedure would work for you although you are not copying to an identical drive. Worth a try at least.

You don't need to do anything. iTunes will automatically recognise different devices as different devices. Just plug it in.
You can rename the device by clicking the name in the side panel in iTunes for your own identification purposes, but this name does not matter to iTunes. -
Cant get itunes to recognize media library on external hard drive
I'm trying to clear up some space on my MBP's hard drive. I've moved my itunes media files folder to an external hard drive, but I can't get it to recognize the location I even deleted the app and reinstalled the newest version. I changed the media folder location in iTunes preferences to 'volumes'maxtor/itunes' but it wont see it. (all the music files are still there) I've restarted itunes with the alt/option key depressed, to prompt me to 'choose' my library. ...no joy, though. Can someone suggest what I might do to to remedy this?

OK...
I went into Time Machine and restored iTunes from a few weeks ago. Very odd though... It restored all of the music files (about 12.5 GB) to the standard iTunes folder on my internal hard drive, but only 1.63GB showed up in the iTunes Application itself. I went into preferences and changed the folder destination to the one where the song files are, and even restarted iTunes with option held down and 'chose' the same folder, but no joy. The location looks like this: /Users/DJG/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music
I'm lost... any ideas?

I have a Windows 7 Pro OEM disk that can install either the 32 bit or 64 bit versions. When trying to setup a dual boot for my Mac Mini using Bootcamp version 5.0.3, I get the message that I have the 32 bit version of Windows. Any ideas on how I can get it to recognize the 64 bit version so that I can partition my "Mini"?
If by "OEM" you mean the disk came with another Win computer, it won't work. You need either a full retail verison or the "System Builders' Edition." I used the latter for my BC installation and it worked flawlessly and was marked as 64-bit--no mention of 32-bit.

I have a seagte back up plus. I pulled my hard drive out without ejecting it and now finder dosn't find it but I see it in disk utility (although I cant repair permissions) How do I get finder to recognize my hard drive after pulling my hard drive out without eject...? Is my hard drive dead? I see it in disk utility... Can I get my info back?

If all you see is the drive, then when you ejected it you proably corrupted the volume or partition on the drive.
If that is true then your chances of getting anything back are slim at best.
About the only thing I know that might work not is to send the disk out to a service for recovery. This is going to cost like $$$$.

How do I get my music from Media Center to my iphone 4s. Itunes 10.5 won't import the MC music library, and MC won't recognize and synch to the iphone plugged into the USB port so I can't load playlists from MC to my iphone. Itunes help doesn't work.

As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5. -
When I try to use the internal hard drive as a scratch disk I get this error "unable to set scratch disk- the selected directory is on write protect or non-writable media. Any ideas on how to fix this. It only happens in fcp.
By internal, I assume you're referring to your systems (boot) drive. Is it, by chance, a partitioned dive?
Also…although many people successfully use their systems drives as scratch disks, over time you'll have better results using a dedicated drive for your media.

ITunes Media And Removable Storage Issue - Can't Get iTunes to recognize the new location. Any tips?
I've had my iTunes media on an external HDD for years. Let's call this drive B.
My iTunes library and xml file reside on my Mac HDD.
I decided that I wanted to buy a bigger HDD and move all of the media to it. Last night I copied all of the media files to the new HDD (let's call it P) from B. I also copied the iTunes folder from my Mac HDD to P and directed iTunes to look for the media in the Advanced settings.
Of course when I launched iTunes after all the hours it took to do all of this copying, it could not find any of the media on P without asking whether I wanted to locate it - and the library was full of explanation points. When I examined the info on a few songs, it was showing that all of the media was still pointing to B as the location with the complete directory structure pointing to that old location - and not to the new drive.
I tried creating a new library and still could not get the library to recognize that all of the media was now on P instead of B.
I remember when I did something similar years ago, I just changed the location in iTunes in the Advanced settings and iTunes realized that all of the music was on B instead of its prior location.
I finally gave up and restored things back to the original settings with all the media on B.
I did a lot of searches and followed everything explicitly -- which basically meant copying the iTunes folder (with the library and xml files within it), and the media to the new drive and then telling iTunes where the new location was. To me it shouldn't be any simpler than that to get iTunes to recognize a new location for all the music.
Can anyone offer a more rudimentary breakdown of things for me to try so that I can get iTunes to acknowledge that all the media is on P and not B?
P is larger than B for those of you who are wondering why I'm trying to get this to work. And P also will be a drive that dedicated to iTunes and media and nothing else. Unlike B, which has all kinds of assorted files on it along with my music, etc.
And yes, each time I made changes - I restarted iTunesThank you both for the information.
It sounds like I did something out of sequence based upon reading the split library information, thinking I was doing the right thing.
This is exactly what I did
I copied the folder with all the media from B to P
I copied the entire iTunes folder from the Mac HDD to P
I option click started iTunes and connected to the library file and when iTunes opened it was OK - and looked like it normally does when I was still using B as the storage
I connected to P
When it didn't work, I tried to create a new library and did the same exact things.
So let me ask this:
Should I hook up P again and delete everything off of it except for the folders that have the media in them and then copy the current iTunes folder over onto P again - and then copy all of the media from it's current location into the iTunes Media folder inside of the iTunes folder I copy over from the Mac and then try to connect and consolidate everything?
I assume that if I move everything from the current media folder into the iTunes/iTunes Media/ that I copy over everything will be under the iTunes umbrella as if things were never split?
I don't seem to recall it being this difficult when I originally set up things on B, as it was a split situation then too, if I'm not mistaken.
I really appreciate the instruction. And honestly it does make sense to have everything in one location to prevent problems like this from happening - it would just be great if iTunes had a feature that moved and/or copied the necessary files to the new location to prevent splitting links -
ZFS Configuration - getting different disk target numbers

We are in the process of configuring Oracle 11gR2 RAC, we are using ZFS as ISCSI storage. getting different disk target numbers on both machines. ( disk 4,5 and 6). to configure ASM we need to set the them unique, please help us to reset volume names.

However, I often try to use the term "slice" for the solaris label subdivision, leaving "partition" to refer to x86 architecture-specific divisions.
Solaris on x86 can only (easily) use a single x86 partition of type "Solaris". You can't use another partition (whether with ZFS or not).
In my case, I have a 20GB partition where I have 10
slices created when I installed Solaris on UFS.
The 120GB left is not allocated to any slice.If it's visible to the Solaris label, then allocate it to a slice.

I have copied my music library from two different files from extewrnal hard drive into the Itunes folder. I tunes only recognizes some of the songs. I have reloaded 5 times and can't get intunes to recognize all my songs? HELP!

I have a form that has multiple fields but has 5 sections. I have used mail merge to insert information but I can't get Excel to recognize that I need different names and addresses for each section. Please help.
Thanks for your response. I do believe I have the information needed for each form on a separate line in Excel. There is a first name, middle name, last name, city, and zip column. And field is entered on a different line for all the information. I'm really stuck.

I used Ion Profile Pro turntable to digitize some old records. It worked fine for most of the records, but on five or six albums I get an error message saying "the original file can't be found" and it won't transfer them to my iPod Touch. However, the files are on my hard disk digitized and I can click on them and play them in Windows Media Player. When I go to iTunes, the records (or the CD created from the original records) exits in the iTunes libraries for sale. However, in some cases, the contents of the album offered for sale differs slightly from the original record, or the songs exist on different albums, but not the original album that I had. In some cases minor misspellings occurred on a few titles when they were entered in the ION softwareon my computer. In a few cases, it seemed as if ION did not recognize that there were two or three songs and ran them all together as one and again, my song list does not exactly match Apple's.
I own these songs, but iTunes won't put them on my iPod Touch. Is there anything I can do (short of paying for songs I already own) to get Apple to recognize these songs?You seem to have an iTunes problem, not an iPod problem. Try posting in the iTunes forum.

I just boght a refurbished MacBook (2009ish) with 4gb RAM and 160gb hard drive, running Mavericks. It is an update from a 2006 iBook running Panther. I have a tera external. As this is a refurbished machine, I do not have the startup disks.
In general setup has been fine, with the exception of a couple of issues.
1. I cannot get iTunes to recognize my iTunes library on my external. I've done all the setup, a few times, but it just won't acknowledge it's there. I downloaded a few files from the Cloud, but when I look in the library they're not there. They're also not in the "music" folder on the hard drive. Suggestions?
2. For some reason, when I create an "iTunes Media" folder on my external, iTunes does not save things into it. Every single album/song/artist is listed as a separate folder. That is, when I open my external in Finder I get a window with well over 100 folders. This would be fine, if not for the fact that I have other, non-iTunes files, on my external and it makes it a pain to find them when I need to. This isn't such a big deal, but it is a rather pain in the arse. Thoughts?
3. I have also moved my iPhoto library to my external, but when I click on "iPhoto Library" in my external I don't see any actual files, despite there being over 1000 photos in the library. Is this normal? It doesn't seem right.

I am running iTunes 11.0, OS X 10.8.2 on a Mac Pro.
Ran Disk Utility, Techtool, Disk Warrior and then reinstalled Mountain Lion, updated it and repaired permissions. No change.
There is a file that says 'iTunes Library (damaged), which is the iTunes Database file. How can that file be re-created?
Any technical help on replacing that file with a new, fresh one would be appreciated!It has always been very basic to maintain a backup of media and other important files. If you chose to reinstall the OS without having a backup, well that just is not smart.
If you are in the US and running iTunes 10.3 or later, iTunes purchases can be redownloaded via iCloud. Simply log into the iTunes store, select purchases, purchase history and redownload the content.
If you are not in the US.... well, seems you just learned and important and possibly expensive lesson. -
How can I get RoboHelp to recognize my FrameMaker installation?
I have Technical Suite 3.5 installed and several RoboHelp projects linked to FrameMaker books.
The Frame books were created in FrameMaker 10. I then upgraded to Technical Suite 3.5, then later upgraded my FrameMaker to 11.
All was well, RoboHelp continued to update from the Frame book files.
Then last week my hard disk crashed. IT provided a new disk, installed the Technical Suite and FrameMaker 11, but now when I open the RoboHelp projects and try to update them, RoboHelp displays an error message that says "Adobe FrameMaker 10 is not installed. No FrameMaker documents can be updated."
When I try to relink the project to FrameMaker (File | Link), I get a similar message: "This operation cannot be completed without FrameMaker 10. Install FrameMaker 10 and try again."
How can I get RoboHelp to recognize my FrameMaker 11 installation, which it used to do prior to the crash and reinstallation?

We are using Robohelp 9 and Framemaker 11.
We are in the process of moving all of our Robohelp content to Framemaker, but our project team still needs CHM files for the next release or so. So we figured we could move our content to Frame 11, then import the Frame content into Robohelp when we needed to generate the CHM files.
The process works great when we use RH 10 and Frame 11, but we get the following error when we use RH 9:
"This operation cannot be completed without FrameMaker. Install FrameMaker and try again."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Frame 11 and RH 9, but am still getting the same error. Buying a set of new Robohelp 10 licenses probably isn't an option.
Any other suggestions?
