Getting Quicktime Plug-in's to work on PC browsers

Made my site on iWeb, things look fine on the mac for firefox & safari, transferred everything to test on the PC, firefox wouldn't play the quicktime videos I have in blog and page, same problem with IE 8. I downloaded newest version of Quicktime for PC off Apple site...installed... tried again.... problem continues on PC browsers. Did I miss something?

Hi Wouter,
My first question would be what software build you are running on your 5508 controllers?  Also, is multicast properly configured on the wired side for bonjour?
Cheers,
Erwin

I'm trying to view a ship stateroom on royal caribbean's site (just dreaming....)
    Here's the url:

When I try it on my intel laptop under os 10.6.8, safari 5.1.7, quicktime plug-in 7.6.6, I get a bunch of gobbledygook on the screen. If I try it with firefox, I get a "missing plug-in" message but it's unable to find the required plug-in.
However, if I try it on my good old ppc imac, under os 10.4.11, safari 4.1.3, quicktime plug-in 7.6.4, it works perfectly.
Anyone have any good ideas? It couldn't be that the newer software is incompatible with older sites? That'd be bad. I hope there's an easy solution to this.
    Thanks!

Thanks, but it didn't work for me. I did click on your link (a bit different from the one I'd posted) and got what appeared to be a weird text file. Since it was supposed to be a movie, I saved it with .mov extension and, sure enough, it played fine in quicktime player. However, safari did not recognize it as a movie to be played with the quicktime plugin. Weird.

  • Cannot get Quicktime (OR Itunes) to install/work

I have had many headaches trying to get Quicktime to work over the past month. I have looked through the forums, uninstalled the program, as well as all the Apple stuff, using a program that would force the uninstall since windows could not do it. I cannot do a Windows restore because the restore point does not go back far enough... If I could just get quicktime to work, I would be happy since so many things require it. Here is what it tells me this time: "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel"
So... What options do I have other than formatting my dard drive. I would rather not do that...
    Thanks,
    -Brett

I tried installing an old version but it says that a newer version of quicktime is already installed.
Okay ... if there's no QuickTime showing in your "Uninstall a program" control panel, and you're getting that message, that usually indicates damage to the QuickTime.msi or related installation componentry.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time? If so, are you able to launch iTunes without the error message?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Convert WMV files to MPEG  and/or  get Quicktime plug-in for WMV and AVI

    Hi Apple experts,
I need to convert some WMV files to MPEG format or something that will play natively on a Mac in QuickTime or iTunes.
I was advised that the VLC app that will convert WMV to MPEG4?... but the page at the URL below indicates that this version of VLC is a player and does not say anything about converting WMV to MPEG...
    http://vlc-download.com/download-vlc/?gclid=COrY_NKghKYCFQN7gwoduQy4qA
I would like to convert WMV files to MPEG so they will play in QuickTime or in iTunes on a Mac by just double-clicking them... for family members with Macs like me.
I am working on a PC where I am right now, but I have Macs at home and at work. I am on a PC for the time being at a friends place and I've produced a few .wmv files in Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. (Sorry Steve, it's just for a test).
QuickTime will not play WMV files, nor AVI files, but it indicates that it can use a plug-in to do so, but the QuickTime webpage for plug-ins that it takes me to doesn't have any plug-ins for WMV or AVI format files.
Of course the Windows Media Player plays the WMV and AVI files, but is there also a way to make them play in QuickTime or iTunes besides converting them?
    Thanks so much,

    Hi QTKirk,
I would like to be able to just give my family these files on a CD for high-res viewing on a computer, in addition to the DVDs that I have made for their TVs.
Since I don't control what they install on their computers, they don't necessarily have Flip4Mac on their Macs like I do... I just want them to be able to play MPEGs from a file on a CD or on their hard drives by simply double-clicking them.
After working with the recommended VLC player that also allegedly converts WMV files to MPEGs, for 8 hours, I have a result with the 7th attempt that mimics the worst kind of modern digital art that I've ever seen... I wish I could plug in the screenshot of the MPEG video that VLC produced... completely useless garbage.
Are there any other suggestions for a converter that simply handles converting WMV to any kind of MPEG file?
FFE was going to be the one that I tried until I read a post about VLC... that turned out to be a waste of 8 hours of sleepless time.

  • I'm on an IPCam and it used to run on Firefox and quit. I reistalled Firefox and it worked for a bit and now I can't get it back up. It works in other browsers but Firefox is my default browser.

  • QuickTime plug-in problem with Firefox 2.0.0.3

I recently upgraded Firefox from 1.5 to the latest version. I used to be able to use QuickTime plugin to listen to mp3 clips online, but these days I always get this error:
"Quicktime was not found. Error #1292176 (I think this number varies from time to time). \n\nPlease install QuickTime on this computer."
    "(An empty line)
The plug-in performed an illegal operation. You are strongly advised to restart Firefox."
Is it likely that upgrading FF without upgrading QuickTime a likely cause? I upgraded my QuickTime after upgrading FF and I reinstalled QuickTime serveral times but nothing seems to work... On the other hand, QuickTime plug-in seems to work perfectly fine in IE 7.0.6.
May I know what is a likely problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi Oliver,
I can't tell what the SP was where the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, the fix is within JavaScript and not within ABAP coding. You could fix it the following way though:
If you happen to have a test system with SP10 installed (according to service marketplace SP11 seems to be scheduled for mid-March), replace your version of /sap/public/bc/ur/nw5/js/popup_*.js with the ones of the next SP inside of the mime repository (please make backups beforehand g). Probably, this will fix the problem as the files as backwards compatible.
    Best regards,
    Thomas

  • How can i get quicktime to work on my windows vista

everytime i download the latest update of quicktime, it says it cannot find the "active x control" can someone explain to me what that is, and how can i get quicktime working so i can have my iTunes running again

I was just on a windows computer with some horsepower power. I can't get it, the video would play fine, but no audio. Perhaps Jon could take a look? I can't pick up anything on it, other than it's a .mov
I no longer have home access to a Windows machine or Mac running Windows OS. As I am not an HTML programmer, I did not check the page coding but had no problem playing any of the video content on the linked page using the Safari browser. Spot checked the source files and found them to be typical MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) files with a frame rate of 30 fps using CABAC entropy Main Profile Level 3.0 (SD) and Level 3.1 (HD) encodings in MOV file containers. As to audio, only one file—Video+(1).MOV (the "Raven, Salma and Kenneth" Claymation Practice file)—contained an AAC (LC) audio track. Except for the use of capitalized extensions (which I don't think should cause a problem), the videos themselves look standard and should be playable on any system using any compatible media or plug-in players that support standard MPEG-4 content and the MOV file container.
    Sorry I couldn't help more.

  • Can't get Quicktime Player to work with an old program

Hi, I've been trying to get a game of mine to work, and it needs quicktime 4.
I had quicktime 4 running great for a while, but it suddenly stopped working a while ago. I couldn't reinstall it for some reason, it never seemed to get completely off of my computer and it ran worse every time I tried to uninstall and reinstall.
So, I decided that I'd try updating to the newest quicktime, but quicktime still does not work. It shows up in my programs and features section on the control panel, but will not uninstall, even if I prompt it to. It starts the installation wizard, gets going, then stops.
I'm pretty much out of ideas, it seems like a hybrid of quicktime 4 and 7 are stuck pretty well in my computer.

Your not likely to get QT4 to install on a newer windows operating system. My guess would be the only chance of that happening would be to create a dual boot system with a older version of windows OS that is compatible with QT4.
I'd try using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/ to remove any old QT installation files to help with the uninstall of QT

For MS Visio (any version) only the appropriate version of Acrobat *PRO* provides PDFMaker for Visio.
For Visio 2013 specifically you must have Acrobat XI Pro (updated to at least 11.0.1).

How do I get my plug ins (Nik and Topaz) to work on Photoshop Creative Cloud?

Contact the makers of your third party plugins and see if they have updates that work correctly with Photoshop CC 2014.
Also, make sure you ran the installers for the plugins instead of just copying them, since you may be missing necessary support files for the plugins.

With CS6 you have to pay extra for these plugins.
With the CC you can download different ME versions to add their functionality.

  • I am unable to get quicktime to work in IE10

I am unable to get quicktime to work in IE10 each time it just redirects me to the quicktime download, I've uninstalled and reinstalled quicktime, I've done a reset on IE, tried unchecking ActiveX filtering...Any other ideas?

I'm working my way through Dreamweaver CC Classroom in a Book. The template in the exercise I'm trying to complete has sections that you can edit and those that you cannot. The links involved are to buttons in the non-editable sections. Since they're non-editable, you can't employ Property Inspector to alter content in those sections. I surmise that the through the Assets Panel approach is supposed to give you the capacity to add hyperlinks to those sections. Double clicking the template does not give you access to those non-editable sections. I've tried that along with a number of other circumventing the Assets Panel approaches. I've dug up a verson of the template from an earlier exercise that doesn't have any non-editable sections and the Property Inspector works fine. With some fumbling aboutI 'm sure I could go right to the code as well.
Ultimately, I don't think I'll have any difficulty with my project working around the Assets Panel. The deal is... it's supposed to work... and it doesn't. And being blown off by support really ticks me off. I'm sure yoou understand.
Thanks for your time and effort on my behaf. Being a really stubborn son of a *****... I'll probably keep after this until I get an answer... whether I ever need to use the Assets Panel or not.
                                                                Thanks again.

  • Cannot get QuickTime working with Vista due to Export Controller.

I have downloaded the latest version of ITunes and Quick Time. ITunes works fine, but when I click on the QuickTime icon I get the Windows message "Export Controller not Working." Yesterday QuickTime would load after about 30 seconds, but now it does not load at all. Today I have uninstalled QuickTime and re-installed it. However, I am still getting the message "Export Controller not working." QuickTime appears in the task bar, but when I try clicking on it it will not open. I do not want to uninstall ITunes because it is working okay, and my family have a lot of music downloaded on it. I am not at all technical, and I would appreciate any help that anyone can give to resolve this problem with QuickTime. I note that there is a previous question on this topic that remains unanswered.

There is obviously still a problem somewhere as I am still getting the Export Controller message, but I am very appreciative for your help. What is Export Controller, and do you have any idea why it is not working properly?
What i presume the Export Controller is ... is part of the machinery that allows QuickTime Pro to export movies to other formats. Although you only get that functionality in QuickTime Pro, it's built in to the QuickTime player (basically, to get QuickTime Pro, you buy a "QuickTime Pro Key" which unlocks all the movie editing capabilities of the Player.)
As to what is causing it ... well I've come across a possible lead off in another thread.
Over here, DevilQc is getting an Export Controller error, but he's also getting a message about his CoreFoundation.dll:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10304475&#10304475
CoreFoundation.dll is part of Apple Application Support (which is a seperate program from QuickTime, but is required for the latest versions of QuickTime to run). If Apple Application Support is missing or damaged, usually QuickTime (and iTunes) won't start *at all.* But it's possible that if you've got some sort of subtle damage to your Apple Application Support, QuickTime might run with an error message.
So I'm thinking that the next thing we should try is swapping out your Apple Application Support. Unfortunately, the easiest way to do that is by uninstalling Apple Application Support and QuickTime and then reinstalling QuickTime, so we'll have to go through that rigmarole again.
Follow the instructions I posted last time for the QuickTime uninstall/reinstall (no need to download a fresh copy of the QuickTime installer though ... the one you downloaded last time should do the trick), with the following additions:
*When you are in the "Uninstall a Program" Control panel:* Also uninstall Apple Application Support.
*When you are in the \Program files\ directory clearing away any leftover program files or folders:* Open the "Common Files" folder. Right-click the "Apple" folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if Apple Application Support was successfully removed using Uninstall a Program earlier.)
The QuickTime reinstall should then also reinstall Apple Application Support. With a fresh copy of Apple Application Support in place, do you still get the Export Controller error message?
