Getting RAW images onto an iPad

Apple just released an update that enables me to view and edit RAW images from my camera, a Panasonic FZ150, on my Mac (rw2 files). I use them in Aperture.
I can view these on my iPad and even manipulate them with some apps. But the only way I can get them into the iPad is by emailing them to myself and then saving them (and in that case I loose metadata, including file name).
Using iTunes to sync the RAWs from a folder doesn't work; you get a warning the file is unsupported and it won't sync it.
Using iTunes to sync from Aperture imports a jpeg of the RAW, not the RAW itself.
Using the Apple card reader dongle doesn't work either.
Air Sharing got me an error message too.
Any suggestions? This is lame.
Rob

I agree that the Camera Connection Kit "should" work; that's why I bought it. But it doesn't, unless I rename the rw2 file to something that matches the MS-DOS format you described. The problem, of course, is that I not only want to get in photos from the camera that were just taken, but also ones I've already renamed.
(Yeah, I realize it's "camera" connection kit, not "file transfer" kit, but sheesh.
I can almost get there in Air Sharing, but to "save" to the photo database on the iPad (where most photo editing apps expect to get them) you have to make it to the viewer screen, and unlike a few of my other apps Air Sharing won't show RAWs. PS Express, for example, will read them. And there are various ways to connect via webdav or whatever, but again I can't get the apps that can do that to save the RAWs as RAW into the photo database.

    Hey Ben,
If you backed up your photos on your computer, just sync back to your computer, and in iTunes, select Photos (with your device selected on the left side of iTunes window). Click to sync photos and select the photo album you want back on your device.
    Good luck

This was part of the original thread you responded too but I have branched out your discussion to make it more specific.  This is already discussed under the Touch Apps FAQ - http://www.adobe.com/products/touchapps/faq.html.  Here is the relevant excerpt:
Customers who sign up for an annual membership to Creative Cloud or who buy a 12-month prepaid card at a retailer or online store will be eligible for a free month of Creative Cloud when they purchase and sign in from three qualifying Adobe Touch Apps from Google Play or the Apple App Store. This includes Adobe Collage, Adobe Debut, Adobe Ideas, Adobe Kuler, Photoshop Touch, and Adobe Proto.
Customers who purchase an annual membership directly from Adobe and qualify for this offer will not be charged for the month of service following sign-in from their third Adobe Touch App.
Customers who purchase a 12-month prepaid card from a retailer or online store and qualify for this offer will have one month added to the duration of their membership.
Creative Cloud members will be notified about their free month within 60 days of signing in to their third qualifying Adobe Touch App

  • How can I import my photoshop images onto my ipad?

How can I import my photoshop images onto my ipad?

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • RAW images onto iPad?

I'm about to purchase an iPad for an upcoming vacation and wonder if I can download RAW images?
And if I can do so, what applications do you suggest to process RAW?
    Thanks in advance.

Be careful here.  I've researched this quite a bit and concluded the iPad is not the ideal device for storing or editing RAW images.  It's too much of a closed system, and the 64 GB of memory is not enough for storing large amounts of RAW files.
That said, tthe iPad will show the JPG embedded in the RAW file, but not the RAW file itself.  I've downloaded images from my Canon S95 shot in RAW mode, and they display fine.  I did not attempt to process them.  However, there is an app called "piRAWnha" that can process RAW to some extent, but it gets mixed reviews.
Are you copying your RAW images from an SD card or CF card?  Apple's Camera Connection Kit works fine with SD cards, but obviously cannot handle CF cards.  MIC makes a CF card reader for the iPad, but it's gotten mixed reviews too.
    http://www.padgadget.com/2011/03/26/mic-gadgets-compactflash-card-reader-for-ipa d-photographers/
Connecting a CF reader to the iPad using the USB connector in the Camera Connection Kit has been a mixed bag.  The problem is that the iPad only works with low power devices such as SD cards.  A USB card reader takes too much power and may not be recognized by the device.
Think about this carefully before you attempt to use the iPad as a storage and editing device.  IMHO, if you shoot JPG on an SD card and don't care about heavy editing, the iPad can be a good tool.  However, if you are a serious photographer looking for a backup device for RAW images shot on CF, the iPad isn't it.  Better to get an 11 inch MacBook Air with a backup drive instead.

  • I purchased movies on my ipad and then when I synced to my computer they ended up in itunes but are now off the the ipad.  How do I get them back onto the ipad.  Thx!

I purchased tv shows and ibooks on my ipad and then when I synced with my computer they all ended up on my computer in itunes.  They aren't on my ipad anymore.  How do I put some of them back on my ipad.  Also, I tried to make another purchase on my ipad but it said I didn't have enough room.  I just updated my software and before I synced I had a bunch of shows on the pad.  I don't understand why it's saying I don't have room especially since it took all my shows off.  Thanks!!!

If the shows are in fact still on the pad, they will be found in the videos app, not the music or I tunes app.  Look there and see if they are still there.
If you don't see them there, go to the searchlight screen ( farthest left home page) and type in the name of one of the shows.  If it is on the pad, hiding somewhere, this will find it.
If they are not there, they should not be using up space.
To get them back onto your pad, plug in and sync again.  Make sure you transfer purchases first.   Before you sync, take a look at the video tab in your I tunes, and check what you want and don't want synced.

  • How do i get my dvds onto my ipad 2 for free and easy i just can get it atall any help would be great.

does anyone know how i put my dvds onto my ipad for free. i have tried a few things but cant get them to work any help would be great.

If the digital copies are compatible with iTunes and iOS devices, there will be some sort of redemption code or other link that will obtain the movie from the iTunes Store, at which point it will automatically be in iTunes.
Note, though, that there are digital copies that are not compatible with iTunes (ones that use the Ultraviolet protection scheme, for instance). Also, many DVDs and Blu-Ray disks offer digital copies only for a limited time after the movie is first released, so the offer may have expired by now.
    Regards.

  • Getting a video onto the iPad

I'm trying to get a video that I took with my JVC Everio video camera onto my iPad. I was able to get the file to my iMac, rename it with a .mp4 extension and can play it on my iMac using VLC. However, I can't get the .mp4 file into iTunes. How do I do this so that I can sync it to my iPad? Thanks. Lisa

Launch iMovie with your digital camera connected - assuming the video captured by the camera remains on the camera. At the iMovie menu bar, go to File and select Import From Camera. Or go to Import > Movies followed by navigating to the movie file already imported by your Mac.
You can make adjustments to the video with iMovie. With the "Project" selected, at the iMovie menu bar go to Share and select iTunes. You will be provided various size options. You will select Medium or Large - the largest size available to be Apple TV compatible. Or you can use the Export Movie option with various options available for the export. Choose the largest for Apple TV. After the export is completed, import or transfer the exported file to iTunes.

  • How do I get music back onto my ipad after I took it off to update to iOS5?

How do I get my itunes purchases back onto my ipad after I took them off in order to update to iOS5?

As long as all the music you expect to be on the device after a sync/update is still in your iTunes library on the computer, it should be easy to resolve your conundrum.  Navigate to the MUSIC tab of the iTunes sync preference screens and make sure the box to 'Sync Music' is checked along with any other preferences you may need to set to sync the music you want back on the device.  Also, make sure you know if you have either the 'Manually Manage' or 'Sync Only Checked Songs And Videos' boxes checked on the SUMMARY tab of the sync preference screens because that affects how you decide what music you are syncing back to the device.  You can get to the sync preference screens by clicking on the name of your device along the left hand side of the iTunes window when your device is connected to the computer.  Hope that helps !

  • Cannot get RAW image to open in CS

I have Photoshop CS (mac 8.0). I recently bought a Canon G9 Powershot camera. I tried opening an image in Photoshop and got an error: "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
I thought that I might need to upgrade my Camera Raw plugin file. Following directions from the Website, I removed the original Camera Raw plugin file from the File Formats folder within the Plugins directory. I downloaded the Camera Raw 2.1 and put it in the File Formats folder. Still did not work. I then tried Camera Raw 2.4. Still nothing.
Then I installed the Adobe DNG Converter and put it inside my Adobe directory. I opened it and tried to Select Images to Convert, but the RAW image take with the G9 was grayed out (not active -- could not select it)
So the problem is that no matter what I do, I cannot seem to open RAW images in Photoshop. Please help.

    >What I do is open my finder, then grab the RAW image that I created with my Canon G9. I then drop it on the Photoshop icon on my applications bar.
LOL! It's never going to work that way, Daniel. :D
Photoshop cannot open your raw files. Period.
You need to drop a raw file on the DNG Converter application, or better yet, launch the DNG Converter and point it (Command O) to a folder full of raw images.
Remember, the DNG Converter "Open" command works only on folders, not individual files. But you can drop individual files on the DNG Converter.
The DNG Converter will then create brand new DNG files that can be opened by ACR 2.4 or later hosted by Photoshop.

  • Getting a DVD onto my iPad

I am using Handbrake to convert some DVD's to put onto my iPad. Roughly how long does it take to convert it into a useable file? As I have been looking at an unchanged screen for a good hour plus. Also, once it has converted how do I then put it into iTunes?
    Thanks

The Time it takes will be dependant on the length of the video, and your computers resources. . Longer videos will take longer. low Ram and low cpu speed will also contribute to length of time.
But handbrake should show you a progress bar.
Once converted you can import the file to iTunes from the File menu Add to Library option.
