Getting resultset from out parameter ref cursor

hi,
i have written one procedure which return one refcursor as out parameter.
when i am calling that proceduer how can i retrive that resultsets in my current program.
ex

I have sproc with Ref Cursor as an OUT parameter.
It is extremely slow looping over the ResultSet (does it record by record in the fetch).
so I have added setPrefetchRowCount(100) and setPrefetchMemorySize(6000)
pseudo code below:

Hi,
I have the same problem. It seems, when retrieving cursor, that "setPrefetchRowCount" is not taking into account by OCCI. If you have a SQL statement like "SELECT STR1, STR2, STR3 FROM TABLE1" that works fine but if your SQL statement is a call to a stored procedure returning a cursor each row fetching need a roudtrip.
To avoid this problem you need to use the method "setDataBuffer" from the object "ResultSet" for each column of your cursor. It's easy to use with INT type and STRING type, a lit bit more complex with DATE type. But until now, I'm not able to do the same thing with REF type.
Below a sample with STRING TYPE (It's assuming that the cursor return only one column of STRING type):

- the part of the EJB spec that deals with databases is called the Java Persistence API, but likely you are just looking for the JDBC API.

How to get resultset from procedure having dynamic select sql query ?

I have created a procedure, in which there is dynamic select query. The procedure has one out put parameter which gives error code. When I compile that procedure it compiles successufully. When I run it it executes successfully and gives output error code. But I don't know how to get resultset of that dynamic select sql query. I need that.

Calling stored proc from java using ref cursor

We have a requirement to display all the records from a table on a JAVA screen. Due to some constraints, we have to write the query in the stored proc. We are trying to return a result set from the stored proc to the java code by using a ref cursor. Please refer to the code below.
Following is the PL/SQL proc �

Here ref_cursor is of TYPE REF CURSOR declared in the package specification.

Can anyone tell me what could be the problem with this code? I have read somewhere that REF CURSOR feature is available from Oracle 9i onwards. If so, then, is there any workaround for mapping REF CURSOR to Resultsets in Oracle 8i?

Getting ResultSet from Statement takes time..

I am using Oracle 9 and my stored procedure returns a REFCURSOR. For a number of Ids input to the procedure it returns the corresponding Id,Name pairs.
For a particular set of data, the following statemnt takes almost 3 seconds.
ResultSet rs = (ResultSet) stmt.getObject(1);
The prefetch size is set to 10 and the number of records it returns is 2.
Can anyone tell why it is taking so much time and what can be done to improve it.

This just a guess -- based on the (lack of) information you have provided, but the time may be due to the SQL (i.e. stored procedure), or building the "ResultSet" (if the "ref cursor" returns a large, complex structure) or the network load, or the database load. Perhaps you could start out by seeing how long your PL/SQL function takes (in case you haven't already done so). Then you could run your java code from the same machine as the database server. Then ...?

Problem with get ResultSet from rmi jdbc method. Help.

I am writing a rmi jdbc server. I got all the rmi methods working, but I am trying to get the data from the ResultSet. After the query, I set the fields in the serialiable class and return it back to the client. However, I noticed that it does called init(), but not the setField calls. When it calls the first setField in the serialiable class, the method is never called. Can anyone give some guidance.

You need to give us some information more. Like what rdbms are you using, what driver and how are you trying to access the resultset from java.
I do not know what are you using. One thing I can tell you for sure is that the execute method returns a boolean. If you need a resultset you should run executeQuery.

Calling an Oracle stored procedure and retrieving result from OUT parameter

Hello,
I have a stored procedure that returns a string in an OUT parameter after receiving 6 IN parameters. I have tested the procedure in PL/SQL and it's producing the right output there. The problem is when I call the stored procedure from my Java method. I then get an error message telling me that I have the wrong number or types of arguments in my procedure call. I have checked that the method receives and sends the correct data in the correct order and I'm not sure what else the error message can relate to...?
The exception is called on my second try statement but I haven't been able to find out what I have done wrong there. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Looks like you are declaring a procedure, but you are calling it like a function. A procedure has no return value, it has only parameters: "{call p_set_given_answer(?,?,?,?,?,?,?)}"

Getting ResultSet from Oracle procedure

I am trying to get a ResultSet object by executing a stored procedure in Oracle.
The ResultSet is one of the parameters of this procedure. Typical code:

How would I get only certain number of rows in my ResultSet ? The setMaxRows on a callable statement did not do anything. Neither does the setFetchSize().
When we get a ResultSet directly by executing a query from a Statement, these maxSize and fetchSize parameters set there do the job and return a ResultSet of specified size(# of rows). But on a CallableStatement it didn't do anything.
Anyone knows how to achieve this ?????

I'm not sure there is a way to do it automatically in the driver.
Two possible ways are:
(A) Limit the number of rows selected in the stored procedure, potentially by adding another parameter indicating the number of rows you'd like. Modify the select to do something like and rownum < 10(B) Only process the number of rows that you actually want; this may be less than ideal if the total set of records from which you're choosing a limited number if large. E.g.
int count = 0;
while (count++ <= 2 && rs.next()) {
// Process the row
}I'd be interested to know exactly what happens in the Oracle dirver when you use "setMaxRows" anyway... does it modify your query or does it simply stop returning results after that number.
