Getting rid of black background in iPhoto slideshow converted to .mov

Hi all!
I have a desperate friend who created about an hour long slide show in iPhoto using "Vintage Prints" theme --it has a black background with photos getting dropped in.  There are four segments she wants me to edit together for the whole show for her daughter's graduation party. Is there any way to get rid of that black background and replace it with a solid color background or texture?  I have tons of animated textures and backrounds but I can't figuere out how to bring them to the rescue since the .mov is already created......   I thought of keying but 'black' isn't the new chromakey blue or green......  thought of a garbage mask but the shapes of the photos and collages dropping in are not constant....  Ideas?
I didn't see a way in iPhoto to convert that black background to white or color either.... Did I miss something there?
Thanks all!

works like charme here:
.. ok, needs some tweaking: a luma-key is never working as good as a color-key ... but iPhoto delivers some very solid black, so FCPX' keyer creates an acceptable job (in my humble criteria).
ok, the fade-out-to-black in the ending of the slideshow theme makes a luma-key impossible!
keep in mind: the 'key' is more like a 'key-hole' (=as a non-native speaker, this is my mnomic )  - the color, alpha or black gets transparent and allows a look-thru to anything underneath ... that simple.

you still think in 'tracks' - no need
Think of 'layers'

  • How to get rid of a background in an image?

Does anyone know of an easy way to get rid of the background in the attached image and just keep the red print?
    Any ideas appreciated.
If someone knows of an easy way, I have a much larger version of the image in PNG format.

Another way to proceede is to convert it to B/W and adjust the conversion for taste. Then clean it up using curves or levels and clip it to a red fill layer. Here is a quick proof of concept. Doing it in sections would produce better  results.  The rectangles are new additions.
I suspect this trade mark is still in force and owned by Honeywell and should not be used for commercial purposes.

Installed printer, it works fine. Can't get rid of black box panel on left side of computer screen;says clip book on top. So can't see left half of websites or email.  Also dragging box over to print doesn't go out of panel.

    hi,
I believe this is the HP Smart Web Print software that was installed after installing the full feature driver of the printer. You can uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs of the Control Panel if you are using Windows XP, or it is in Uninstall A Program of Programs and FEatures of Windows Vista or Windows 7.

  • Getting rid of black borders from video

is there a bleed line with this software because I do "scale to frame size"

There's no such thing as bleed in video. Your source video is at a different aspect ratio than your sequence; what are the dimensions of your footage and of your sequence?
Scale to Frame Size works by scaling the video in a sequence frame until it is able to show the entire video image; if it hits a boundary (sides or top and bottom) before completely filling the frame, it will stop scaling. It won't ever stretch, squeeze, or otherwise distort the video image. In cases like that--if your source footage and sequence are different aspect ratios--you're better off using the intrinisic (that is, built-in to every clip) Motion > Scale effect. Select the clip, bring the Effects Controls panel forward, and swivel open the Motion effect; drag the Scale parameter up or down until you fill the frame and eliminate the black bars.

  • Getting rid of ugly background behind rounded input button

I have saved a rounded input button as png8 with alpha transparency. However, as there are different background colors, choosing a matte becomes problematic. It looks decent in IE7, but has an ugly dark squared background in Safari. The easy solution would be to square the button, but it is a design feature, so..... Any ideas? I tried adding a "transparent" to the background in addition to the image, but all that did was get rid of the background image as well...
    http://www.miobambinoshop.com/myaccount.php

I see the hard corners in FF (Win), too. It is not as dark as in Safari, though.
That button graphic is small enough to save as a 32bit png. In fact, when I did an export from FireWorks, the 32bit png is 910 bytes - just over half the size of your 8bit file.

  • How do I get rid of black shadows around layered sparkles in file imported from Illustrator CC to After Effects CC?

I have a background with a logo that will have various stars or sparkles around the logo. I eventually want the sparkles to flicker on and off around the logo in my Premiere Pro video.
I created my layered logo/sparkle artwork in Illustrator CC. Each sparkle is on a separate layer. The sparkles came from clip art. In Illustrator CC the sparkles are white or yellow. In After Effects CC they have a black background around each sparkle, almost like a drop shadow.
I want to get rid of the drop shadow/black background.
    Any suggestions?

Check the problematic layers in the comp by soloing them and then press the u key twice to reveal everything that is not set to the defaults. Make sure there are no layer styles or other effects checked. If all is normal but the art still looks odd open up the footage interpretation, Click the More Options button at the bottom left. and set the anti aliasing for vector art to More Accurate. You can do similar in Preferences>Previews and set Zoom Quality to More Accurate.
Here's another tip for using Illustrator files for video. Any stroked artwork must have a minimum stroke of 1 point or 1 pixel. 2 is better. Fine details in your artwork should be drawn with the snap to pixel option enabled in Illustrator and artwork should be an even number of pixels (points) high and wide.
If none of that works, save out just some of the problematic layers in you AI file and send us a link so we can check out the file or post a screenshot of the problem viewed at a zoom factor of 100% with resolution set to Auto or Full and the properties of your layer with problems revealed.

  • Mysterious tool that gets rid of white backgrounds

Hi, I've been searching the net for an answer to this question...
At my last place of work I was using CS4 and often utilised an awesome tool in Indesign that effectively got rid of any white parts of an image with just a click. It wasn't permanent, it was more like an effect when the image got blended into whatever was behind it. Whites disapperared completely but other colours remained in various stages of transparency. It worked best for graphic black and white images when you wanted to get rid of a white background of an intricate illustration.
I didn't use Indesign for a few months and forgot what it was called, and now I use CS5 and can't find it. Please tell me that sounds familiar to someone because I'm starting to think I imagined the whole thing!
    Thanks,
    Jess

Hi Jess, try going to the effects panel and seeting it to "Multiply".  It is a bit of a mysterious tool, it sometimes works fine, and as you say sometimes doesn't work perfectly but has varying degrees of transparency, which depending on your POV is "working" or not.  I've enjoyed showing many people the seemingly magical effect it has when it does work though!

  • Is there any way to get 720x576 (ie DV Pal)  from iphoto slideshow?

I have tried the iphoto forum and have been directed here. Is there any way to get 720x576 (ie DV Pal) for an export from iphoto slideshow? I want to export 200+ photos with random transitions and the ken burns effect. Imovie offers offers automatic ken burns effect via project properties but I can't find a way to add random transitions automaticcally. Is it possible? I want to add the exported file to a movie in Final Cut Studio. Normally I have to resort to using adobe photoshop elements 5 and premiere elements 3 on my bootcamp partition. I would love to do this all in Mac OSX - since leaving Windows, this is the only thing that forces me to use that lousy operating system!
Thanks in advance for any help.

Not directly. But you can do it with a bit of external help. Create a slideshow project in iPhoto using the "Random" transitions and auto KBE you want. Then export the slideshow as a 640x480 MPEG4/AAC 30 fps full motion MOV file. Drop the file to MPEG Steamclip and select the "Export to DV" File menu option. The select the DV format, PAL standard, and aspect you want. (I would normally select the "Frame Blending" option in the main menu when going from 30 fps to 25 fps.)

  • How to get rid of pix in my iphoto library that are not imported?

I needed to clear the memory card of my husband's camera recently, and didn't have the canon software installed on my computer. So I tried using iphoto, but it crashed because the movies are high resolution and I guess iPhoto couldn't handle it. I managed to get them transferred another way, but now every time I launch iPhoto I get a message telling me that there are images in my iPhoto library that are not imported, and asking if I want to import them. If I try to import them, iPhoto crashes again. If I say "cancel" I get the same message again next time. I tried going into the finder to get rid of them but don't know where they are. No matter what I try to throw away, I still get the same message. How to get rid of those photos?

and didn't have the canon software installed on my computer.
You could also have used Image Capture in your Applications Folder.
but it crashed because the movies are high resolution and I guess iPhoto couldn't handle it.
iPhoto managed high resolution just fine. Perhaps you don't have the correct codec.
To solve you more immediate problem: go to your Pictures Folder and there you'll see your iPhoto Library Folder. Open it and inside you'll see a folder called 'Importing' or something close to that. Drag it to the desktop. Restart iPhoto. Does that help?

  • Any way to get rid of reflection effect in .Mac slideshows?

I find the reflection effect in the slideshows totally unnecassary, and very distracting. With some photos it even has a distorting effect. I tried to get rid of it by using a workaround posted last year:

I added Richard Blinne line of HTML to my page. It
does not seem to make any difference. The URL is:
    http://web.mac.com/geertvanderkolk/iWeb/homepage/eugene's_photos.html
I think you put it in the wrong spot. It has to go
last - you put it before the standard slideshow.js
stuff so it is still calling for the reflection.
Thanks for thinking along about this. I put the line of code for the vampire.js at the end of the head, but it does not help. I found a recent slideshow that has captions without reflection:
    http://web.mac.com/drwater/iWeb/Utah%20Elderstostel/St.%20George%20and%20Snow%20 Canyon.html
On that page I couldn't find the vampire.js at all. It's very confusng...

  • Flash gallery - filename on thumbnail and get rid of sequence display next to slideshow controls

Hello. Thanks in advance for you help. I'm wondering two things as I'm trying to tweak my use of flash web galleries for client image selection.
First, is there any way to get the filename to display on the thumbnails in the gallery? Used to have this with html galleries from bridge/pshop. Clients are complaining about this - especially when picking images for compositing, and it makes it difficult if not impossible to compare images within a big gallery.
Next, I've had one client (IQ challenged), that told me to process file number 10. Instead of filename # ABC001_010, what they were referring to was the 10/250 that's next to the slideshow controls. Stupid, but true. Anyway, I have no use for the sequence number so I'm wondering if there's a way to get rid of it on the gallery without having to do a custom edit to the code or whatever.
    Thank you!

    John,
I totally agree with you: also my clients start to complain that they miss the filenames on the thumbnails (I use an edited version of the Lightroom HTML Template). Seems that clients don't take (have) the time nowadays to go through the full versions...
As a convinced convert from Iview Media Pro this is about the only thing I really miss. Would be very nice if someone (G. Jardine?) would throw in some code here!

  • Getting rid of the background

I have a org chart image with a white background- it was originally created in MS Publisher. I brought it into PS CS4 as a jpeg
I wanted to cut out the chart and remove the background so I can use over a watermark in a report I'm working on in InDesign. Using the polygon Lasso tool, I traced out the entire image and hit delete. All the background went to gray/white checkerboard indicating a transparent background. Looks great, but when I move it into my InDesign doc. the white background is still there. What am I doing wrong? I have saved it, flattened it (when I flatten it the white comes right back) but to no avail. Please help!
    Rich

Flattening always gets rid of Transparency.
Sounds like a ton of work. Believe me, there are much easier ways to remove a Background than using the Polygon Lasso. Look around for some tutorials.

  • How do i get rid of black space at the end of a video presentation?

After creating a project in iMovie and burning it onto a DVD, I realized that when the movie was finished, it did not return to the Menu right away and instead it played 20 or so seconds of blackness that I can't seem to get rid of. Has anyone else had this problem? And how do i fix it? I have also checked if my any audio or narration tracks lengths were that long, and none were.
    Please help.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

In the course of your editing you may inadvertently have left a tiny scrap of audio or video way out at the end of your time line, with a large gap between it and the last clip in your movie. Your movie will play out until it reaches that scrap, leaving a large black gap at the end of the movie. Sometimes these scraps are so tiny that they are difficult to see and can be overlooked in normal view. Expand your time line view to its fullest extent and check to see if you can find such a scrap, left over from editing, and then delete it. It's worth a look, though you may not find anything. That's all I can think of, unless for some reason you have a 20 second long black clip at the end of your movie that you forgot to delete. (Don't laugh--it happened to me once.)
Good luck in resolving your issue.
