Getting rid of duplicates in Aperture

I just downloaded Aperture 3.2.4 and imported a album from iPhoto which has 1500 images. Aperture shows two images of the same one original and one edited. I did edit some of them in iPhoto, but not all of them. My question is how can I just get one set in Aperture and how do I prevent this from happening again?

Are you using the latest iPhoto'11?
Since the latest iPhoto and Aperture versions you can avoid to import separate images for "edited" and "original" ( in most cases) by importing the complete iPhoto Library (File > Import > iPhoto Library) and not using the the iPhoto Browser.
Importing from the iPhoto Browser always will result in two separate master images for original and version. To delete the copies that you do not want, use the keywords "iPhoto Original", "iPhoto Edited" to define smart albums (File > New > Smart album, keyword is "iPhoto Original") or searches to easily spot and collect the images you want to remove.
Or export either versions or masters from iPhoto.
But the preferred way should be to import the whole iPhoto library. (and delete the events/projects you do not want afterwards)

What kind of duplicates? Did you import the same image file several times? Aperture does not have any built-in tools to detect duplicates. You will have to do delete the one by one. You could arrange the images by date, so that duplicates are shown side by side in the Browser. Or use a tool like Duplicate Annihilator (the program is not free). I have never tested it but some do recommend it.

Thank you for the question. It sounds like you have two separate iTunes Libraries but would like to add the music from one to the other to have one consolidated library.
If you know where the files are for each library, I recommend opening one iTunes Library in iTunes and importing the files from the other library using the following steps:
Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
MacAdd to Library
Windows
Add File to Library
Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add

Next, you can search for duplicates:
Choose View > Show Duplicate Items to show duplicate items (matches are based on the song name and artist). If you have multiple versions of the same song (for example, live and studio versions, or versions from different albums) you can hold the Alt or Option key (for Mac OS X) or the Shift key (for Windows) and choose View > Show Exact Duplicate Items. This will show only duplicate songs having the same name, artist, and album.

You don't say whether you are on PC or Mac. For Mac there are these two programs which might help (I havn't tried either) :

There are probably similar programs for PCs, but I don't know what they are. On a PC you can hold the shift key and do File > Display Exact Duplicates (without the shift they may not be exact matches) - if one of each duplicate pair has the same date added then you can sort by that and then delete those with (or without) that date.

Until then you will have to resort to sorting by a particular label such as artist and manually scanning, third party utilities such as Dougscripts Dupin to deal with duplicates, or revert back to iTunes 10.7.

OK I understand. Many of the old iTunes 10 features are still present, but they have been hidden by default.
Bring back your Sidebar with control S and your menu bar with control B. There are icons for them but the control keys are easier to describe.
The View menu will then be visible, where you can customize your viewing preferences and make it appear a little more familiar.
You don't have to remove the old version to update it.
Reverting to iTunes 10 is possible but very tedious.

2 - don't do anything without a good, current backup

Found the answer myself while helping to set up iPhone. It is simple when you know how. Before signing out of iCloud to sign in again and restore the link to Photo Stream I had opted to copy iCloud contacts to the Mac. When I signed in again this created two iCloud views which can be seen in Contacts Preferences. I just disabled one of them. Not brave enough to attempt removal but I gues this would work too.

Connect to iTunes. On summary screen for ipod, hit the "Configure Universal Access" button. Make sure none of the checkboxes are checked in the dialog box that comes up. Click apply, then sync and voiceover should be off.

Howto get rid of duplicates in iTunes but keep albums complete

I try to get rid of duplicates in iTunes but came across the following problem:
In File -> display duplicates tons of duplicates show up, but when I delete one file the entry is the itunes-library is deleted as well and I will miss this song in that specific album.
Is there a solution to refer to 1 file on disk with multiple entries in my library, to keep my albums complete with the correct ID3-tags (meta-data) and get rid of duplicate files on disk. This would save me a lot of space on disk.
Or is the correct way of avoiding copies of files in iTunes, to drag-in the file once and link with various album-playlists to it? Then you still missing the possibility of saving meta-data of those playlist-links, right?

iTunes does not have the ability to show just one file in multiple albums. So you'll have to keep the multiple files for multiple albums.
