Getting rid of mic static

I bought a relatively cheap mic off eBay that plugs in via USB soundcard. Nonetheless, it picks up sound. However, two things I've just noticed upon recording is static during breaths and a shrill, treble-y tone. Any way to improve this?

mostly it's a case of GIGO (Garbage In, Garabage Out)
static during breaths and a shrill, treble-y tone
you can try playing with the gate to hide bg noise during quiet passages

  • Ios7 update audio is hissing and static. Please help me get rid of this noise so I may enjoy my audio on my iPad

    Ever since the ios7 update my audio is hissing and has static. Please help me get rid of this noise so I may enjoy my audio on my iPad

    Just for the record, this is what I wrote to Apple feedback:
    (If anyone really knows what the problem is, please let us know.)
    Apple iPad mini. Re: Hiss
    Hi. I am one of the very unhappy people who can't use the iPad for recording since getting ios7.  The apple forum is replete with stories like mine: ios6 recording was quiet - ios7 is noisy. I have tried every suggestion. Why won't anybody at apple tell us what the problem is? I have been using macs since 1986. All I want to do is record my songs on my iPad. Unfortunately for me, I recently brought my iPad-mini refurbished so there is no warranty. If I had bought it new I would be at the Genius Bar until I got the problem fixed. Did I mention how unhappy I am?  Here are the specs: 1st gen iPad mini running ios7. Recording onto Multitrack DAW with a Samson Go mic to a 30-pin USB camera adapter, into an apple brand lightening adapter into iPad mini. Everything works fine except for the HISS.

  • Help to get rid of background noise in GB3 when recording voice on Sony mic

    I am recording my voice into GB3 using a Sony ECM-MS907 condenser microphone connected to the line-in input on my iMac (core duo 20"). I use basic vocals with no effects.
    My voice records fine but there is a background noise underneath which I can't seem to get rid of. It is also present if I use the built in microphone. I don't think it is room noise as it is pretty constant throughout.
    I have added a backing track which helps to mask it but this is not really satisfactory.
    Any ideas how I can record without this apparent interference?

    What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
    Classically USB microphones do not work with Premiere Elements (any version) for use with its Narration Tool. Have you found otherwise?
    Where is the noise - in narration clips produced by the Narration Tool or from imported audio files added to numbered Audio Tracks and/or soundtrack?
    From what you wrote, it appears that the audio noises are confined to the narration being produced with your microphone and Premiere Elements Narration Tool. Is that correct?
    Under fx Effects there are audio effects that you can explore to reduce noise. See Reference Effects Adobe document for a description of the fx Effects audio effects.

    If you use the same microphone and create your narration in Audacity and import that narration into a Premiere Elements project, do you get noise in your narration?
    Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
    Besides making sure that your microphone is compatible with Premiere Elements, have you evaluated your narration recording techniques...how close are you to the microphone, room noise level while recording, etc.

  • Get rid of the "P" when to close to mic

    I am nto sure how else to explain this but you know when someone holds their mouth too close to the mic and when they pronounce anyting with a "P" in it, the sound spikes and mkaes a loud POP? How do you get rid of that? I have tried "remove pop's and clicks" but that has no effect. I know you can Auto Heal it but there are lots and lots of these in teh sequence I am editing. Is their an easier way?
    many thanks,
    Houston

    Hey Houston,
    I have a project that the live soundman for the event couldn't even out the "P's" for nearly two minutes into the program for the emcee. ( I know it can be done because I was a live soundman for 10 years.)  My video was recorded ambient due to the nature of my shooting at last minute notice.  How I dealt with it in Premire Pro was lowering down the bass in "Effects."  I toned it down just a little to get rid of the obvious "Peter Piper P's."  If you really want to tweak it the best, I would use the equalizer instead so you would not lose some of the mid-low frequency.  These are the easiest and quickest approach without getting into using the compressor and equalizer together. The latter is a science in itself.
    When the live soundman finally found his mix, I edited where I could keyframe some points and smoothly (ease in with bezier) transition the normal audio level. Overall, people who have reviewed my dvd said that it wasn't noticable.  I'm sure there are other ways to fix this dilemma, but since I'm new to Premire Pro and Soundbooth, I'm just sharing what has worked for me and the tools I used in these great programs.  Good luck...

    It worked!
    Thanks.
    I have a dumb basic question which is sort of related to your shambles comment, which I don't deny is true.
    I am confused about whether style.css files get affiliated with each separate HTML page or whether there is just one style.css file that is affiliated with all my HTML pages. If they are separate CSS files, how do I separate each style.css file?
    Best, P.

  • How do I get rid of the pop-up ads in Safari, OSX 10.9.3

    Hello,
    I've just bought a MacBook Air one month ago and it's been working fine till recently when all of a sudden I get redirected to various pages whilst surfing the web. It seems the first page to load on the popped up tabs is Adcash.com. This problem occurs on varoius websites, but not on all of them. For instance I don't have this problem with apple.com and other secure sites. Is this some kind of virus, malware or similar?
    Apple support hasn't been able to help me and I've tried to remove cookies, and looked around here for help, to no avail. One thread contained advice to remove certain files on my hard drive but none of those files were present on my disk, so I was back to square one. What can I do to get rid of the pop-ups?
    This is my first Mac and I'm not particularly computer litterate so I hope you guys can help me out.
    Thanks in advance!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Is there a better way to get rid of desktop icons?

    My project has two things left: 1. get rid of desktop icons during the script 2. Ensure that windows don't open during the script.
    so for part one, I have the following:
    do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool " & false
    the problem is I can't change the desktop background picture when I use the above script. Without it, I can but I have icons.
    The second issue is how I set up a handler in the event that windows open during the script, blocking the desktop-image message. I want to close all windows and keep them closed during the script. Here is what I have so far, but it doesn't work:
    on exists windows of processes where the visible is true
    tell application "Finder"
    set willey to get (windows where the (exists) is true) of processes where the visible is true
    set the exists of willey to false
    end tell
    end exists
    PowerBook G4 1.67 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Even if you manage to change the static desktop picture, you're going to have to find a way to disable the dynamic desktop picture that many users will have activated. This "Change picture" feature is controlled by Dock.app, not Finder. If you quit or kill the Dock, the system automatically respawns it ad infinitum. The only way around that is to temporarily move or rename dock.app, which requires administrator privileges. I'm not particularly inclined to offer my password to prank apps, are you?
    If I were you I'd take a look at Salling Clicker. I know that sounds crazy, but hear me out: In the Salling distro there is a neat freeware FBA called "SEC Helper" that lets you post Growl-like notices to the user, without the hassle of relying on a Growl install. It has a full-screen option that you can set up just like a slideshow.
    click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "SEC Helper"

  • How to get rid of the large slideshow images in Web gallery (CS4)

    Here is the deal.
    I've created a flash web gallery/ But the new CS4 has the option for slideshow with this flash stuff. CS3 use to create thumbnail and large images folders. The new one creates 3 folders: 1. thumbnails, 2, medium images, 3 large images (for the slideshow). That's great, until I go to upload process. I have pretty limited space. So I'm ready to get rid of the slideshow option, but there's no such option in gallery creating process. The only solution I have in mind is to redirect slideshow images to the medium size folder. But thats pretty annoying process during the creation of each gallery.
    So does anyone has an idea how to skip the slideshow creation or another method to skip creating 3 folders, all with the same images?

    Extend DefaultListCellRenderer, not BasicComboboxRenderer. Here's an example that wraps the original renderer and uses it where possible (i.e. instanceof JLabel). No 'white square'.import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.awt.Component;
    import java.text.DecimalFormat;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class ComboRendererTest {

        comboBox.setRenderer(new TwoDecimalRenderer(comboBox.getRenderer()));

  • How to get rid of OutOfMemoryError or at least handle it

    Hi
    The intention is to get rid of the cases, when OutOfMemoryError exception happens
    on the WebLogic (v6.1.3.0) side. The exception is thrown after some period of
    running (from several hours to days, depends on the load/usage model). We have
    several EJBs, created by servlets, which in turn called by the client.
    The fact of OutOfMemoryError is bad, but what is worse that the Weblogic process
    doesn't exit. The clients are stalled and their stack shows that they are waiting
    in RMI stack. Our monitoring utility could not restart the Weblogic, since it
    didn't exit and we arrive to the situation when the service is stopped! There
    is no way to monitor the memory usage, since Weblogic manages it by itself.
    So, the questions are:
    1. What is the default WebLogic behavior when there is no limit on the maximum
    beans in container and there is no idle timeout defined in the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml?
    2. What are the guidance about the correct usage of "max-beans-in-cache" and "idle-timeout-seconds"
    parameters.
    3. What is the exact WebLogic behavior when there are maximum quantity and idle
    time limit defined?
    4. Will the correct setup of beans quantity and idle timeout limit the occurrence
    of the OutOfMemoryError to zero?
    5. If not, what are the other steps to perform to minimize the probability of
    the error? (Increase the MaxHeap, NewSize, etc.)
    6. Is there a way to catch the exception (some kind of callback to the WebLogic
    and then issue some alarm in order to restart the server)?
    7. Is there a way to activate the Weblogic server in special mode it would exit,
    when the critical exception, like OutOfMemoryError, happens?
    Thanks

    Hi Jos,
    I'll try to take some of the questions:

    So, the questions are:
    1. What is the default WebLogic behavior when there is no limit on themaximum
    beans in container and there is no idle timeout defined in theweblogic-ejb-jar.xml?
    Theoretically you can get out of memory in this case. By default number
    of beans of given type for a given transaction is 1000 (max-beans-in-cache).
    So, very roughly, if you have 20 tables presented by CMP beans, and each
    table
    has 1000 records 1000 bytes each and they are all used in the same TX,
    memory used by the beans would be
    20x1000x1000 = 20MB per TX, and if you got 20 exec threads, roughly
    the total will be about 400 Megs.
    It doesn't take in account container and application memory consumption,
    apparently. So if you get this case (very rare, I should say), it's easy to
    treat it
    with just increasing JVM memory.
    2. What are the guidance about the correct usage of "max-beans-in-cache"and "idle-timeout-seconds"
    parameters.Normally you leave them default unless you get CacheFullException.
    3. What is the exact WebLogic behavior when there are maximum quantity andidle
    time limit defined?The default behavior when maximum is reached (default is
    1000), CacheFullException is thrown.
    4. Will the correct setup of beans quantity and idle timeout limit theoccurrence
    of the OutOfMemoryError to zero?That's hard to say. If you've got the case above, and you have many
    different beans
    participating in TX, that might help.
    But before playing with this parameters, make sure that you don't have a
    memory
    leak. Open your server web console and monitor memory usage. Normally you
    I'll
    see the curve sharply dropping with each GC. If it doesn't happen, there is
    a
    high possibility that your application has a memory leak, normally found by
    searching the application source line by keywords "cache" and "static
    hashtable".
    5. If not, what are the other steps to perform to minimize the probabilityof
    the error? (Increase the MaxHeap, NewSize, etc.)Try to set -XX:PermSize=64m -XX:MaxPermSize=64m at least.
    But, if it's a memory leak in the app, there is no way to "minimize"
    error. You'll have to run application load test under a memory
    profiler, find and fix the error.
    6. Is there a way to catch the exception (some kind of callback to theWebLogic
    and then issue some alarm in order to restart the server)?There are products on the market that allow weblogic monitoring.
    Search google for "weblogic monitoring".
    7. Is there a way to activate the Weblogic server in special mode it wouldexit,
    when the critical exception, like OutOfMemoryError, happens?You could set up a watchdog that would monitor the server responsiveness
    and would kill server process if it stops responding. It's a 10 lines shell
    script. But it's definitively a bad idea to apply to a production server.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Slava Imeshev

  • Java5: Can't find a way to get rid of warnings about generic types

    Hi all,
    i have this method:
        public static void insert(List list, int index, Object obj) {
            list.add(obj);
            int j = list.size() - 1;
            for (; j > index; j--) {
                list.set(j - 1, list.get(j));
            list.set(index, obj);
        }I get 3 warnings. All about:
    Type safety: The method add(Object) belongs to the raw type List. References to generic type List<E> should be parameterized
    I can't find a way to rewrite this method (Java5), that i get no warnings compiling it and calling it with:
    List<AnyClass> list = new ArrayList<AnyClass>();
    list.add(new AnyClass());
    AnyClass ac = new AnyClass();
    insert(list, 0, ac);May be you know another way to insert an element to a List?
    Thanks

    Never tried it and do not have 5.0 installed to test
    it, but what if you define the ArrayList as follows?
    List<Object> list = new ArrayList<Object>();
    That should get rid of the warnings.

  • Get rid of the initial asterisk when using PasswordField masking in console

    Hi!
    How can I get rid of the initial astrerisk when using the PasswordField script from Sun?
    I've tried to check whether the BufferedReader is empty or not, but with no succes.
    Here comes the code:

        *@return The password as entered by the user

          BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
          String password = "";

        * Instruct the thread to stop masking
       public void stopMasking() {

    Hello Yajai,
    The example program will use the default value for timeout, 10 seconds. To change this, you will have to set the Stream.Timeout value. I inserted this function into the example and set it equal to -1, and the program will wait indefinitely for the trigger signal without timing out. Please see the attached image to how this was implemented.
    I hope this help. Let me know if you have any further questions.
    Regards,
    Sean C.

  • I call a class using a Button but i cant get rid of the old page??

    Hey,
    I cant get rid off the current page when i want to go to the next page! this.dispose(); doesnt work because the class doesnt implement ActionListener!! This is the code that i have used:
    JButton back = new JButton("BACK");
            back.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
                  public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                       VowelmSound s = new VowelmSound();
                        s.setSize(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize());
                        s.show();
                        //this.dispose();
             });         });       and this is the code for main
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {JFrame draw = new punjabidraw();
             draw.setVisible(true);
    }so was wondering if there was another method i could use to get rid of the old page?? repaint maybe???
    Hope you can help
    Kind Regards
    RSH

    //this.dispose(); 'This' is a nameless ActionListener object. Can't be dispose()ed.
    What do you want to dispose() really?
    And, what is your punjabidraw class?
    Save the currend page reference in a variable called, say, curPage, then do
    curPage.dispose();in the event handler for the button.

  • How do I get rid of second 169.254.x.x IPv4 address on Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86?

    I'm sure this is an obvious one but can't figure it out.
    I have a Winserver 2008 Sp2 (x86) DC with a static IP address allocated to its only NIC.  It seems to have acquired a second 169.254.x.x address automatically which I can't get rid of and which intermittently causes DNS problems (and possibly other)

    Any ideas as to how this might have happened and how I get rid of it (a simple re-boot doesn't do the job).

    OK, I followed Syed's instructions. I noticed that under the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ there were two AdaptorGUIDs, but only one of them had any parameters.
    I created the IPAutoConfigurationEnabled parameter for both these AdaptorGUIDs with a value of 0 as instructed and re-booted.
    Here are the registry entries for the two AdaptorGUIDs:
    After re-booting I did another ipconfig /all, and the APIPA address is still there!  Here's the ipconfig output:

  • How can I get rid of sound at a certain spot in the timeline?

    I have some video shot with my gopro camera, every time I switch hands with it - it makes a noise the mic picks up that I want to get rid of. Can that be done in premiere pro?
    Thanks,
    Rchjr

    RCHjr what Peru Bob is suggesting may benefit from a little more detail.  He is suggesting you find another clip with what is called "room tone" or background sound. If you cut out all of the sound where you handle the camera your movie may sound strange at the point everything is removed.
    Find a part of or a clip where there is consistent background sound  with nothing unusual.  It needs to be a little longer than the section you cut out.  Alt click on the sound part of the clip and drag it somewhere clear on the timeline, this will copy it without the video.
    Listen to it by itself -expand the track and click on the S button at the far left to solo it, make sure it is clean- nothing unusual. This is best done using headphones.
    Place it on an audio track under the clip you cut the sound out of.  You now have many ways to blend them; you can ripple delete, use keyframes or the clip mixer or transitions to blend the two tracks together.
    I do a lot of GoPro pole camera work on moving boats on the ocean, every time the camera body or pole is rotated or touches a boat just what you describe happens.  There are more sophisticated ways to try to fix it in Audition but the clone and blend method should do the trick.  It's also helpful to shoot twenty or thirty seconds of  "room tone" which is asking everyone to be quiet and rolling the camera(or sound recorder) for every unique soundscape.
