Getting rid of pc speaker/beep sound

Hello guys.
Can you advice me how to get rid of the pc speaker/system beep? I tried most of the advice on this site https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Di … eaker_Beep but it doesn't work. Can it have something with snd?
Btw, I'm using Toshiba Satellite T130-10g. I attach lsmod and lspci.

Any suggestion which kernel module to disable or what to do?
Thank you...

I had this problem too. I didn't have pcspkr nor snd_pcsp loaded and still got the beep. What ended up being wrong was indeed alsa: it didn't show the "Beep" device in alsamixer until I hit F6 to "Select sound card" at which I chose... my only soundcard, and the Beep device appeared, which I was then able to mute, which worked.
However, GNOME also has its own special beep which comes out the speakers, which (if you're using GNOME 3) you can disable by clicking on the volume icon, then "Sound Settings" and checking "Mute" on the "Sound Effects" tab. This is what did it for me.
I had literally tried EVERYTHING on the wiki page EXCEPT for the alsa related things because my alsamixer only had one bar. Upon F6ing and selecting my soundcard there was in fact a "Beep" to mute. I love you<3

  • How do I get rid of the annoying zap sound I get each time I open a tab or navigate within a web page.

Every time I open a new tab or navigate to a different part of a website I get this annoying zap sound. It only started after my last upgrade. Please tell me how to get rid as its driving me mad. It has nothing to do with add-ons as I've disabled them all.

  • Is there a way to get rid of the USB beeps at boot with a K8N Diamond Plus?

    Hi all!
I am the proud owner of the system below but there is a 'music' I hate every morning: the booting beeps from the USB devices connected to the USB ports in my rig. Should I unplug them, the 'beep, boop, beep, beep, beep, boop' go away. My question for those of you in the know: is there a way, in the BIOS or wherever, to take away those 'irritating' beeps and boops? I presume they are not 'post messages' as they stop showing up when unplugging the devices and booting again.
As ever, thousand thanks in advance.

Well there is no other way, simple disconnect PC speaker if those beeps bother you. You no need PC speaker anyway isn't it?

He means the onboard or case mounted  speaker, not the one you plug into so you have stereo or surround sound.
It has a black and red wire connector which plugs into the board where the reset/power switches are...
    Matt
Sometimes I feel so noobie  ....... I thought you were joking Bosskiller, but it's true, I never use it but to manage POST issues. Fortunately there are not any right now and I am not expecting them so far. So ... best music is that unplugged, OK?  Thank you Matt too.

  • How can I get rid of the speaker icon?!

The speaker icon (labeled "sound effects") started popping up for no reason in the middle of the screen. It remains on the highest volume. When I lower the volume it climbs right back up to the highest. I have all the latest updates installed. I don't want to do a complete reset because I would have to reinstall everything. Is there another way to make that icon disappear?
There's another problem and maybe they are related. When the ipod runs on the battery only it gives a false reading. It shows the battery is almost completely depleted. However, as soon as I plug it in it shows 50% (it will charge completely if I leave it plugged in). Anyone want to take a crack at solving this?

% battery on an iPod is not accurate so what you seeing is not abnormal.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • How to get rid of the annoying clicking sound of an iPod Touch Keyboard

I just got an iPod Touch and I love it but I have a small problem with it. I'm really annoyed by the cliking sound the keyboard makes when you type. It's even more annoying that you can hear it without the headphones.
Is there anyway I can lower down the volume of the clicking? I'd really like some help with this.

As a note, this will remove all of the sounds effects on the iPod, not just the annoying clicking sound.

  • How to get rid of warbling background sound when expoerting to MP4 ?

    Hello All;
I've been having a very, very strange problem since the first day I started exporting a FCP video to MPEG-4 via. the compressor. For some bizarre reason, I always hear a warbling sound in the background when I export a video - this makes MPEG-4 creation completely unusable.
This is driving me absolutely crazy as I need to create a video for the web. Everything else worked perfectly - size was good, video was very clear, only this stupid warbling sound. I did not record live video ... I only used existing video that was in the FCP project and when I play the project in FCP, I don't hear this strange sound. Also when I export to other formats like Quicktime or even DVD (Via. the compressor) I also don't hear it.
Anyone experience any problem like this before ? And can someone help me get rid of this stange background sound ?
    Tim

    Thanks for the info, Dave.
I think I may have solved my problem. I changed the audio sample rate to 32 KHZ and I removed the Right Audio Channel. I used a shotgun mic and it was connected to the left channel so I'm not really sure what the right channel was hearing.
However, I still think the sample rates were mismatched. It looks like the original clip's audio was set to 48 khz audio but the 48 khz audio setting of the MPEG-4 compressor setting was grayed out so I was unable to select it - Do you know why it was grayed out and is there a way to select 48 khz ? I would still like to try to set the clip to a sample rate of 48 khz in compressor when exporting to MPEG-4.
Anyway ... I'll know for sure if it's working tomorrow morning. I exported a sample clip while I did the testing but am exporting the full hour-long program overnight.

Can you explain more on the "clicking" noise you are hearing? If you mute the computer do you still hear it? It is from the speakers or from the inside of the laptop?
    Thanks,

  • Intermittent beeping sound from my PC internal speaker. How to disable it?

I have a HP Pavilion 1070d PC.  I get an intermittent beeping sound from my PC internal speaker.  It seems to engage when the hard drive starts working when it's been down for a while.  How do I disable the beeping sound?

    Domgoh, welcome to the forum.
Normally, the beeps that come from a computer are BIOS beep codes.  They are warnings that something is wrong with the computer.  At the bottom of the page in the link that I provided are codes for different motherboards.  Review them to see if this is what you are receiving.

A black airplay info window floats around on my HDTV screen when sending audio content via airplay up to sound system w Apple TV.  How can I get rid of this?

Had this happen to me after a recent update, was super annoying.  To turn off, go to Settings > AirPlay > Conference Room Display > Off.

  • How to get rid of the craking sound comming from my speakers

I have creative 4400 4.1 speakers. Whenever i switch them on (without even booting the OS),Small sounds like the ones comming out of old gramaphone disks which resemble like a cracking sound is comming out of my speakers.
can u tell me how to get rid of that sound , Is it a problem or is it natural in speakers.

If it's happening when they're turned on, but the PC isn't (or there is no source connected to the speakers), then you could try the speakers on another power outlet (in another room perhaps), to check if there's any interference or "dirty power". If there is other electrical equipment around something could be causing interference. It is possible though that there is a hardware fault.

  • Can't get rid of the beeping noise!(SOLVED)

Hey guys, so I can't get rid of the beeping noise of my laptop.
I have an Acer Aspire 722. Every time I plug or unplug the power, it beeps. And the really annoying one, everytime I backspace, it beeps.
I've tried going into alsa and muting beep. I put !pcspkr in modules in rc.conf.
I don't know what else to do?
Help will be extremely appreciated. Thanks.
edit: unrelated but something I want to resolve. I get these debugging messages, and found to get rid of them I have to set loglevel= 3 in grub. How do I do that? (SOLVED)
Also, I'm having an issue with x-org. Every time I try to download it, it says it is missing a file. So I figured maybe it is a mirror problem so I went to change my mirror. Pacman keeps trying to use my old mirror even when my mirrorlist does not have that mirror commented out. I also checked pacman.conf and no mirror is being loaded in there with a server=mirror syntax.
    Not sure what is happening?

Please read the man page :-)
    -y, --refresh
Download a fresh copy of the master package list from the
server(s) defined in pacman.conf(5). This should typically be used
each time you use --sysupgrade or -u. Passing two --refresh or -y
flags will force a refresh of all package lists even if they
appear to be up to date.
    (emphasis mine)
    Edit:
lettuceman44 wrote:Also just a question out of curiosity. I have a working connection, but I thought I needed the x window system to run a browser which is what I need to post here right?
Or am I missing something?(linux newbie here )
Nah, you do need a browser, sorry ;P
You should have some simple text-based (links and elinks) on the CD you used for installation, but they may be a bit intimidating to use if you're new.
    Thanks!
I've pretty much have solved all my problems now. Feeling good
Just one last thing I need to deal with
Waiting for Edev uevents to be processed
    edevd[114]: seq 1068 '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:15.3/0000:07:00.0' killed
    Bringing up loopback interface
    udevd[114]:worker [141] terminated by signal 9 (Killed)
What does this mean? It "looks" bad, but I don't know what it means lol. Google isn't helping and it could be normal for all I know.

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

  • I'm having trouble with installing a 8g kit in my late 2009 mac mini. when the parts are installed all i get is a beeping sound, is there any way to get around this?

i'm having trouble with installing a 8g kit in my late 2009 mac mini. when the parts are installed all i get is a beeping sound, is there any way to get around this?

What is the source & link to this 8 GB kit please?
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
