Getting Rid of Roxio Software

In there not-so-infinite wisdom, RIM decided to OEM Roxio software with their Desktop Manager.  I find that Roxio is very invasive and causes several normal functions of my DVD drives to fail, for example drag & drop to disk.  Is there any way to  remove the Roxio components from Desktop Manager and still have my Pearl able to connect and sync?
Get with it, RIM.  Roxio is just bad news strangle-ware.

I never liked Roxio so I didn't choose to install that component when I installed mine. I chose the advanced method and made the Media Manager part unavailable on installation. You can probably remove it by going to Add/Remove Programs, then modify instead of uninstall the BB Desktop Manager and only remove or make the Media Manager unavailable. It should remove Roxio in theory, but if it fails, just uninstall and reinstall the BB Desktop Manager without the the Media Manager. Good Luck!

  • Getting rid of unwanted software

    Hello there,
I use an ibook G4 and my computer only came with a 60GB HD. I have an external hard drive on which I keep my music and photos. The purpose of this post is that I'm looking for a nice way to be able to view all the files on my G4 and sort though them so that i can get rid of unwanted software and make some more room! I don't want to buy a program to do this so if anyone knows/ can suggest a good way to do this (for free), I would appreciate it!
    Thanks!

Managing the available capacity of your HDD is very important. You need to maintain a minimum of 15% of total disk capacity of your HDD as contiguous free or available disk capacity. Failure to do so can lead to directory corruption and consequential data corruption or loss.
Dr. Smoke's FAQ Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk is a good place to start. In terms of a utility that will enable you to see what is occupying your disk WhatSize 10.3.91 (this is the free version) and Disk Inventory will both do the job.

  • How to clean up macpro 10.6.8 snow leopard when running extremely slow?....apple told me to get rid of "mackeeper software" but that seemed to help ...now what?

How do I improve the performance of my Macbook Pro  (os 10.6.8) ...I previously had "mackeeper" but apple staff advised to get rid of it as
I did not need to improve performance and this software was not apple recommended and  tends to cause more problems >   But lately my computer is running extremely slow ...Not opening programs and freezing ?.......I miss the mackeeper as it would tell me about duplicate files...temporary and "clean Up" which semed to help ...........Isnt there any way to increase performance manually ?  Help please

Well MacKeeper comes close to qualifying as junk, as malware even, and totally takes over and interferes with a system and then is hard to uninstall and remove.
In addition to the above, BitDefender has a free utility as well to remove adware.

There is no real valid reason to install and use this or other apps to clean or improve system performance. Adding more RAM can help of course if yours has minimum, upgrading the system storage drive almost always helps as SSDs have gotten better and available in any system.
the more 'stuff' that gets installed, the more problems with stability, performance, and the system working as it should.

  • Can't get rid of Perian software update window in the center of my screen.

When I woke up my computer this morning, there was a Perian software update window right in the center of my screen.  I cannot get rid of it and don't want to install it.  No matter what I push...it won't budge.  My choices are Skip this version, remind me later or install update...as I said I don't want to install it...how do I get rid of it ?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    Click on "Skip This Version."
If that doesn't get rid of it, hold the power button down until the MacBook shuts down. Then start up again.

  • After almost a year - duh - I see that v3.6.4 got stuck mid-download; now I can't proceed or get rid of the Software Update 'Paused downloading Firefox 3.6.4' -so how to update now?

I have Firefox 3.6.3 on a mac os x 10.5.8 laptop. Often when I open Firefox there are updates available for plugins & addons and I install them. Now Firefox often crashes while in use and/or I must force quit. I finally went to the Help menu on the Firefox menu bar and saw this message: 'Resume Downloading Firefox 3.6.4...' When I click on the message I get a new 'Software Update' window with this info: 'Paused downloading Firefox 3.6.4' (stuck); a 'Details' link (dead); and 'Connecting to the update server...' (never connects). Sorry, I couldn't figure out what the 'Firefox location bar' was and so can't get report IDs, though a while ago I stopped reporting the problems. I want to update Firefox without losing any of my stored settings/info. PS I just saw my 'installed plugins' list. 'Displays PDF documents in the browser' is listed but doesn't work; 'iPhoto6' listed, but I run iPhoto '08 (7.1.5). I'm not sophisticated enough to recognize the other plug-ins. Thanks!

I don't know if there are better solutions, and I don't know if what I'm going to write is real also in mac OS: in windows and linux you personal settings (bookmarks, history, plugins, etc...) are stored in your home directory and not in firefox installation directory. So what about to uninstall your current version, download the new one from firefox web site and install it? In my opinion all your data remain untouched.
A better solution may be download the new version and install it without removing the previous one, the installer should overwrite outdated files ;)

  • How do I get rid of the software update notification that keeps popping up top right of screen? I want to manage what and when I update and I just don't want some updates. I find this really annoying as all I can do to get rid of it is remind me tomorrow.

I recently upgraded to OS mavericks and really wish I hadnt. Just more problems to fix. Little anoying bugs
Upon sending mail I always get a pop up box saying unable to contact server so I have to click okay.
Often I think an email has gone - only to find it stuck in drafts days later. This is extremely annoying ... mostly I have to wait around and after maybe 5 minutes check my sent box just to be sure it actually went. Even though I heard the whoosh ... doesn't seem to mean it really did go.
Some of my photos in Iphoto just have a big exclamation mark when I try to open them up - any ideas how to fix this one.

etresoft  a long time contributer to Apple Support Communities wrote a very useful app he called etrecheck which helps in diagnosing many problems caused by third party installs etc.. Go to his website, read his information and from there download and run the program according to his instructions

  • Re: Want to get rid of Toshiba Softwares pre-installed on Satellite L650-165

    Hi,
i just bought my Satellite Pro L650-165 and there are a number of softwares that come pre-installed with it.
Such as Toshiba Tempro, Eco Mode, Bulliten Board etc etc.
Considering the fact that i will be using this for my university i will be running numerous ram intensive programs on it.
So i want to free up all the ram i can by uninstalling all these utlities.
I know what you are thinkin... yes just because they are installed doesnt mean they are running. But is it safe to?
I know it should be but still asking. i just want to be left with plain ol windows7 minus all the 'cool softwares'. any precautions?
oh and although i have created the recovery discs using the builtin utility to do so.. i was thinking of ordering one from toshiba too. where to go for that?

    >So i want to free up all the ram i can by uninstalling all these utlities.
I know what you are thinkin... yes just because they are installed doesnt mean they are running. But is it safe to?
Even if such tools are installed, this does not mean that they would run in the background and would waste a part of the RAM.
I would not recommend uninstalling such tools but to disable it from automatic startup.
    How to do that? Esay
You can do this in msconfig.
Start msconfig and go to start up tab.
There you can just uncheck the tools which you dont need at the beginning.
Save the changes and reboot the unit.
If you would need one of the disabled tools again in startup tab, then you could enable this
Note; disabling the process in msconfig does not mean that you could not start these tools manually
Disabling the tools (processes) in msconfig means ONLY that these tool would not be started automatically when the windows boots up.

  • How do I go about getting rid of a software update?

How hard is it to uninstall an itunes update without deleting it from my computer? Does anyone know if this is even possible?
I downloaded a big update today while I was at work (the connection at work is much faster than my home connection!) The only problem is that when I tried to use itunes tonight, it said that I would need to have a 300 something GB OS X update to be able to use itunes again. I cannot download something that big on my slow home connection, and I don't want to have to do without itunes for the whole weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's not very easy to rollback, it can be done, (sometimes successfully too), but your best bet is likely an About the Archive and Install feature...

You shouldn't lose anything, just go back to your original OS, though you should use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair your GD first.

  • How to get rid of a software icon that has been re...

I removed a java app from my memory card. But for some reasons, the icon remains and refuse to be removed. Anyone can help? This is on an N95
    Nokia >>> N95 (current), E65, N800, N80IE, 770, 5300 XpressMusic, 6030
    Sony Ericsson >>> W810i
    Motorola >>> RIZR Z3, RAZR, V551

Was it removed using the "Application Manager" tool, which supposedly does a clean remove ?
Try hooking your phone to a PC with USB as a mass storage device, and try to locate files (including icons) that may have been left on the card (possibly in a directory that was created by the application you removed).

  • How do I get rid of Final Cut X

I bought this softawe thinking it would be an upgrade to my Final Cut 7! What was I thinking! totally decieved.
A huge dissapontment with this kiddy software that looks and feels like imovie.
Now I cant install my old version, for some reason this new verson gets in the way and the installer wont allow me.
How can I get rid of this software and install my old one?

You are totally wrong in your appraisal of FCP X  .  .  .  it is far superior and more advanced than legacy FCP  but you need to spend some time getting used to its different and better way of working.

I share a macbook with my other half and we both use it for our iphones. When syncing using the new software I now have all of her and my contacts on my phone.  I don't want her contacts! How do I get rid?

    Hi,
    You have 2 solutions:
1 - You can use 2 differents icloud account
2 - You use the same account but you don't sync yours contacts.
You configure that in  Settings > icloud
You activate or desactivate what you want.
    Have a nice day.

Just updated the latest Epson software printer update from Apple. Now all my prints look solarized. How do I get rid of the new update and go back to the perfect prints I had before? Help please. Wasting ink and paper at the moment!!!!!!
I have tried the printer with my laptop (not updated) and everything is fine. It's just the beautiful 27" Imac that can no longer print.

Might be a corrupted printer preference file ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Preferences
    Click Go
Move the com.apple.PrinterPrefs.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, restart the printer...

  • There is  Red Icon at the top bar and it says I have a virus and things keep popping up saying I have a virus and need to do a scan and pay for some sort of software to complete the scan, someone told me that this is a virus in. How do I get rid of it?

This could well be the notorious Mac Defender - which is an annoying program that tricks you into thinking that your Mac is infected with a virus, when the only infection is Mac Defender itself.
When surfing the web never EVER click on a link that says "Free anti-virus scan" or "Scan now" - they are nearly always scams which will end up infecting your computer.  Although Macs are resistant to viruses, they're not resistant to user stupidity.
If you Google "Mac defender" then you'll find plenty of sites with instructions on how to remove this minor nuisance.  Take this as a warning that you need to be more careful in your surfing habits.
