Getting Rid of Space Mail Takes

Hi all,
All of the Mail messages that I've accumulated take up quite a bit of space.... 6 GB to be exact, and I want to free up that space so I can use it for other things.
Now my plan was to use MailSteward to do an archive of all my mailboxes up until August '09 and then put that database on an external hard drive and delete all the messages from Mail... I thought that this would free up the space but it doesn't seem to have worked.
Can anyone tell me what I might have done wrong or suggest a different solution? Basically I want those 6 GB (or at least some of them) back but I also want to have those emails stored somewhere.

I'm not familiar with MailSteward. any questions about it are best directed to MailSteward devs. but if you wnat to archive some mail you can do it using built in tools too. make a mailbox in on my mac section and move whatever you want to archive there. then select this mailbox and go to mailbox menu->archive mailbox. after the mailbox is archived you can delete the original mailbox from "on my mac" section and this will free up the space.

How do I get rid of the "mail" nav menu item at the top right of our Wiki? Our mail server isn't switched on so I wouldn't have expected it to show in the first place.

I solved my issue, and it can probably help with yours too. Sounds like you'll have to enable web archives in order to disable them for individual groups.

Can't Get Rid Of Space At Page Bottom

I'm doing a redesign of my website and there is a space at the bottom of my page that I can't get rid of. Some pages the space is fine. But most are not. Here's a screen shot of the good and the bad:

I make the appropriate changes in Dreamweaver so it looks right but when I view it over the internet there is too much space. Does anyone know how I can remove this extra space?

How to get rid of VIP mail box added version 6 ?

I just updated my iPod to 6.0, and there are two things I do not like about it:
First, it added a "VIP" mail box which I don't want. How do I get rid of it?
It also added a "passbook" app or something, which I don't want and don't need. I've religated it to the "not used much" folder, but I wish they wouldn't add it without asking me or at least let me take it off my device.
Shame on you Apple. For the first time since I've had my iPod I'm feeling messed with and I don't like it.

How to get rid of google mail in "new calendar" menu?

Hi there,
it's not a big problem, but it drives me crazy: month ago I tried google calendar and synced iCal with this. Since then, in my menu for creating new calendars I have two options: local and google mail. Because I don't want to use google calendar anymore, I want to get rid of it in the menu. I tried several things in Preferences and Calendars, but without success. Could anyone help me?

I got it by myself: one just have to delete the cache-files in the directory Calendars - that's it.

How to get rid of a mail account?

I had two .mac accounts and wanted to get rid of one and just use the other one. So I deleted everything in my Mail/Preferences so the only e-mail address is the one that I currentely would like to use.
Now, when I look in:
User/Library/Mail
Folder I find that the deleted account still has a folder. Better yet my iphone is still trying to sync with my current .mac and the old one. I even deleted all the contents of that mail folder and every time I restart Mail the unwanted account recreates its folder.
How do I get rid of this account permanately?

My account (the one that I want to keep) is the only one listed, there is no info whatsoever about the account I attempted to delete (which I assume should be a good thing). There is no remenence of the one that I deleted other than in that one Mail folder.

Can't get rid of MASSIVE mail notification number!

Hi all,
So recently - maybe this is an iOS 6 thing - everytime I search for an older email through Mail, it continues to look on the server (naturally), and when it finds mail that is relevant, it ups my mail notification number. Even when I get out of the search, the unread mail messages - well their notifications anyway - remain on my phone. There are pictures below to help explain:
So as you can see - even though my inbox says I have 83 messages, I actually only have 3. Any ideas how to get rid of that number?

I can't see your first photo above, but I can see the second.
You hypothesize that you show three messages there. I see at least nine, because there are at least four from Daryl, at least four from Kimberly, and at least one from Chris.
So to start, I suggest clicking on those right arrows to see what lies below the surface you've shown here.
Another thing to try is to reset your iPhone. Hold the home and on/off buttons together for 7 or 8 seconds till the Apple logo appears. See if that helps.

How to get rid of spaces between custom brush paths?

Hi,
I'm working on a design that includes a rope graphic, and to create that and be able to use the rope for different paths I created a custom pattern brush for it. Everything works fine, however I can't get rid of the spaces in between some of the patterns on my path. I have "stretch to fit" checked off which minimizes the spaces slightly, but still does not join the patterns, and I also set seperate graphics for the corners, etc.
Any help would be much appreciated!

How to get rid of spacer.gif?

I have an assignment for class and my teacher hasn't gotten back to me yet.
I created a site in fireworks (cs6) and then he says to export it. As I was building it and previewing it in a browser, I see these blank white boxes in certain areas and it's shifting things. I tried exporting thinking maybe it was just my browser and they were still there when I opened the file in DW. I think this is an issue because I'm using tables but I want to get rid of these.
I tried deleting them from the code but then the entire layout went crazy. I tried aligning all the slices. I tried the different settings in the fireworks export options but it just shifts where the white squares appear.
I'm really getting frustrated but don't know how to fix this. Please help!

Are you trying to export a table-based layout? It sounds like you are... Have a look at the export options available under File > HTML Setup. The Table options allow you to choose what methods are used for spacing or to fill empty table cells. If this doesn't help, then the General options might be worth experimenting with. In particular, try choosing another option under HTML Style (e.g., Generic XHTML or Dreamweaver HTML, instead of Dreamweaver XHTML).
The other option is to create a layout with the intent to export it as HTML & CSS. In that case, upon exporting, you'd choose "CSS and Images" (instead of "HTML and images"). However, this requires that you build the file and slice it in a particular way; I mention this just in case you're attempting to export the file in this form, instead of as a table-based layout.

Can't get rid of outgoing mail

This message actually was sent, so why it is still "loading" is
beyond me. I've tried rebuilding the mailbox, I've control clicked on
the message to delete it and I still can't get rid of it. Any thoughts would

This is not email. This is Apple Support Communities and you do not have authority to delete your post. For a limited amount of time you can edit it though.

Can't get rid of unread mail icon--shows 2 unread messages but can't find any

I've got a smart mailbox that shows unread messages so I can easily see what new and unread mail I have. The problem is it gives me the notification icon that indicates I have two unread messages, yet the mailbox does not show any messages as unread... This isn't a huge problem, but the Mail icon in my dock always shows that I have new mail, and the notification icon is small enough that I can't always clearly see if it's the "usual 2" or a higher number. What could be causing this and how do I either find the unread messages or get this icon reduced to where it only shows me REAL unread messages?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
Envelope Index
ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Can't get rid of space without the page shifting out of view

Hello. I've got a big space appearing above my title line in this page. http://www.sarahpellerdesign.com/jordan/schooner.html See how there is a lot of white space above the words "Schooner Adventuress"? So, I went to the code and saw this on line 56: <p>& n b s p;</p> (put spaces in there, otherwise it won't show up)
I tried to delete that line and it resulted in the entire page below the nav bar shifting over to the right, so that it is sort of "attached" to the right end of the nav bar. When I preview it in the Chrome browser, it looks like nothing's changed, but it remains shifted to the right in dreamweaver. Unfortunately, in that position, I can't get to the content. It's stuck off the side of the page and I can't scroll over to it.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Code view is a better place to delete unwanted code precisely.
In design view you can accidently remove more than you intended and disrupt your layout.
You also have some wonky partial table code at the very bottom.

How to get rid of junk mail in POP account

Dear all,
I have a POP account which on my iMac/Macbook Pro perfectly weeds out almost all junk/spam. On my iPhone 4 however there is no junk mailbox so all junk goes in my Inbox with a ratio of 60 junk : 1 real mail message. Anyone?

With an email account/address that is so severly compromised, you may want to consider a new email account and address preferably an IMAP account for a number of reasons.
A 60 junk to one real email message ratio means you have inadvertently contributed to the problem and the email account provider has no spam filter at the server. Rendering any HTML included with spam/junk confirms that your email address is "known good" with the spammer that sent the message causing more spam/junk to be received. Clicking on any links included with a spam/junk message does the same. Providing your email address publicly for any reason also does the same. Spammers sell/trade their "known good" email address lists to other low-life spammers causing an endless cycle. Once the cat is that far out of the bag with an email address, there is no turning back. The iPhone's Mail app does not have a junk mail filter and may never have one, which wouldn't match the junk mail filter with the Mail app on your Mac anyway.
Get a new email address from an email account provider that supports IMAP access. Use the new email address to exchange email with family and friends ONLY. Use your existing severely compromised email address for online purchases and to be provided publicly. Never provide your new email address publicly for any reason. An IMAP account is specifically designed to be accessed with more than one email client with all server stored mailboxes kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account. A POP account is from the early dark ages of email account access with an email client when most people had access to a single computer only and well before there were handheld cell phones and especially smart phones. A POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
