Getting rid of spam?

We're getting much more spam again recently ... the spammers must have changed something to get through the filters.
I'm using the default mail service from Apple with a RBL and a scan for junk mail score of 3. Any ideas what I could do more?

Alex's Frontline Defenses are a great method of fighting spam. His guidelines will eliminate about 80 percent of the spam reaching your server.
The next step is properly training Spamassassin to filter the remaining spam e-mails getting through. Alex's spamtrainer <http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/view/37/58/> is a great tool for achieving that purpose.

  • How to I get rid of Spam?

I get so much spam on my Verizon account I can't use it as my main account.  I get pages of spam every day. I have a g-mail account and a mac.com account that works great.  Wish verizon.net did.
I would think that Verizon would have a spam filter.

They do. Do you have it turned on for your email account? If not, do so, it may help. Of course you can also create custom filters to recognize and delete emails that get through the SPAM filter, but unfortunately the filtering is pretty basic, there is no ability to filter just by domain, for example.

    Hi silverman65,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your question. If you added here account to the Mail application on your Mac and would like to now delete it just from there, you may find the following article helpful (it is aimed at Yosemite, but the steps should apply to Mountain Lion as well):
    Remove an account
When you remove an email account from Mail, the account’s messages are deleted and no longer available on your Mac. Copies of messages remain on the account’s mail server and are still available (from webmail, for example).
Important:    If you’re unsure whether messages you want to keep are still on the mail server, move or copy them into a mailbox stored on your Mac (the mailbox appears in the On my Mac section in the Mail sidebar) before you delete the account in Mail.
Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Accounts.
Select an account, then click Remove .
Mail (Yosemite): Set up Mail with your email accounts

  • Up to now, spam could be deleted and then eliminated in trash.  It no longer works. Have tried many ways to get rid of these messages but they keep showing up back in spam. Suggestions, please.

I no longer can get rid of spam. I would delete them while in spam; then I would delete them again in trash mode.  Recently, the same messages reappear in spam.  I've tried deleting them one at a time and in a group but nothing works.  Two of the items are from apps and one is from Africa.  Are there any other ways to trash spam? Please help!

Log in to your mail account on a web browser and delete them there.

I would still take it to your IT department and discuss the setup with them. They are more aware of their setup than
I would be. You are probably supposed to BES as it is a company phone. I did not think to ask if it was a company phone in my original answer.
    Sorry!

  • I have an older I-Pad and have daily recurring spam.  Always the same and some going back to January. I delete them every day and they delete them in the trash folder but they keep coming back.  How do I get rid of them ?

I have an older I-pad and have recurring spam. How do I stop it ???  I delete it every day and then delete the trash folder but it keeps coming back.  Thanks.

For those kind of mails, unsubscribing doesn't work. they're breaking the law trying to scam you, they're not going to respect unsubscribe. Unsubscribe only works with real companies. Such as unsubscribing from Gap company mail etc. Spammers can actually use the 'unsubscribe' as a confirmation 'hey, there's a real person here, hit em hard'
I'm not really familiar with g-mail, but most mail programs have filters you can set up, such as telling it 'everything with dating in the title, send to the trash' etc.
You can do some research on that or have someone help you with some hands on help.
If that e-mail has ever been used for e-greeting cards, or given to enter contests, etc, your address is out there. You will never get rid of it totally.
If it's really, really bad, sometimes what you have to do is abandon the address and get a new one and only give it out to people you want to contact you. Don't  enter it on websites, or use e-cards or things like that that are spam collection mechanisms.

  • How do I get rid of the SPAM Popup Ad for an External HDD

A spam popup ad for an external HDD came down with supposed Lenovo system updates.  This ad pops up every few hours and I can figure out how to get rid of it.  There is a check box that says 'don't show again' but I check it and it doesn't work.  I am extreemly disappointed they have invaded my system with an ad that was part of a system update.  I have 15 thinkpad users and it hasn't happened to all of them yet but they'll be screaming at me when it does.

Try this. Don't open the email. Swipe across it in the preview window and a red delete button will pop up. Use that to delete it. You can delete it from the trash the same way if needed.

  • Need to get rid of email alias due to spam attack

I have recently been slammed by a tidal wave of spam to one of my .mac email aliases. I was planning to delete the alias to get rid of this continual attack but I see that Apple has stopped the ability to do so since June 6!!!
This spammer changes addresses every day so marking things as junk and creating rules does not begin to handle the problem. What can I do?!

    Hello Winster69
All you should do is sign out of that Apple ID everywhere and then sign in with the new Apple ID. Also keep in mind that if you have apps that were associated with the old Apple ID, it will pop up to enter in the password for that old Apple ID to update them. You would need to remove any apps that is associated with it. Check out the article below to get you sorted out.

  • How to get rid of icloud spam

How on earth does one edit the options for icloud mail? Since I synced, I am getting tons of spam, which I've never seen before on any email account. Please advise!

I've had the same problem. Before moving to the Cloud I almost never receive spam on Mobile Me. Now it's an annoying and seemingly impossible flood on a daily basis. No word from Apple on what has happened or how to deal with it.
